Actually mine installed... and i am getting 5 fps more on some games... the installer doesn't closes for me. Just saying it fixed some of my problems which was certainly one in which the computer didn't see my nvidia card at any point at all and was running only off intel graphics. I don't really care if you want to say my contribution is "as useful as ashtrays on motorcycles" as long as i found something for an outdated laptop line and sharing it on forum. i just found something i tried it before hand, it worked and shared it with the forum. It helped me solve main critical problems with my laptop.

Hi. Do you welcome an Asus laptop owner who doesn't own a UL80VT machine?
Fact is, I have nowhere else to go. I have an ASUS UL80A. I have searched it but I found none. At first I thought my unit was smuggled. I couldn't even find a support page on Global ASUS website. This was given to me by my sister and it is actually a valid unit because I took it twice to Asus Center and they honored my warranty. So I concluded that, after finding a download page on a localised ASUS website, UL80A is a unit that is only sold in my country (Philippines).
UL80A's specs are closest to UL80VT. The only difference is I have DDR3 type of RAM and I don't have a discreet Nvidia graphics card.
1. Since I found this forum, I've been wanting to ask how to disassemble this laptop (because I am very convinced that dust and other unidentifiable small objects are residing inside it). UL80A and UL80-Vt are just the same in size and look and the locations of components. I tried earlier to open my UL80A but I haven't got father than removing the screws. I can't find any opening to reveal the air vent and fans. So can anyone help me with this? My warranty's expired so I am free to explore now.
2. And while I'm at it, I asked ASUS Center up to how much RAM I can upgrade my laptop to. Currently, I have 3Gb. The lady told me that I can upgrade up to 4GB. But I don't believe her. Also, SIW (System Information for Windows) stated that my RAM's maximum capacity is 8Gb (as reported by BIOS). So I am doing a little trial-and-error thing with this. I am going to buy a 4Gb RAM and replace my 1Gb stick so that I can have 6Gb in total. My worry is that at the event my laptop only accepts 4Gb, what will happen if I installed 6Gb? Will it malfunction? Or will my system just simply ignore the excess 2Gb? And can I install just one stick, leaving one bay unoccupied? ('Coz that's what I'll do so as not to waste the soon-to-be purchased 4Gb stick, (because we have a weird warranty and return policy in our country)).
3. So far the only upgarde I did was with the hard drive. I have read that I should ground myself first when dealing with RAM, but is that really necessary? If not, is there another way to ground myself or prevent electrostatic diskcharge? Of course, I want to be careful, too.
4. Lastly, if ever I found an empty "space" inside my laptop where the Nvidia should be, can I buy a graphics card in place of it?
5. PSS: I also want to repaint my laptop. I know it's dangerous coz of the harsh chemicals that might react with my laptop. But I want to know if there is anyone here who has successfully re-painted or at least changed the color/coat of his laptop? (Coz I am getting tired of the plastic casing that's prone to scratches, prints and overly visible dust).
So glad I found this forum and I hope that I am welcome here.
Thank you and have a good day. :]Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I got the latest driver to install no problem, just used Nvidia auto-detect and it installed just fine. I won't miss the Intel HD graphics, my laptop is always plugged in and even on battery the Nvidia allows over 4 hours which is more than I ever need.
As for memory upgrades, I tried installing 8GB and it would not post. It would only post with one single stick of 4GB memory, not even with a 2GB and 4GB installed. Might have been a particular issue with those sticks being compatible though.
I just noticed that even the hybrid setup works somewhat. I can switch it into Intel HD and if I restart I can switch it back to Nvidia with the button. -
Hi to all,
Does anybody have the Asus UL80xx series disassembly manual/guide?
Thank you. -
I noticed a new release of Elantech Touchpad drivers, v10.0.5.2, are available from Asus. I have tried them and feel like they are a huge improvement over the v7 drivers I have been using. I used to have a lot of accidental single taps on the touchpad with the v7 driver no matter how I adjusted palm tracking. This v10 driver has just about eliminated accidental single taps for me.
Here is a direct link to the Windows 7 64-bit driver v10.0.5.2. This driver package is 136 MB !

Two 4 GB DIMMS have been operating fine in my UL80VT with BIOS 213. They happen to be G.Skill F3-10666CL9-4GBSQ modules.
I would also like to find a service manual. The internal microphone is cutting in and out when the display is moved. -
Just did a fresh install, latest Nvidia drivers installed without a hitch. I upgraded to a SSD as well, highly recommend it.
-
Problem? -
No problem what-so-ever. I just installed my SSD and then used the factory restore disks. After everything installed, I ran the Nvidia latest notebook drivers. Even the switch still works that performs the transistion to HD4500 and back. I've installed these drivers 3 times now with three installs, I don't understand why they are not working for others. All I can say is that maybe they are trying to install desktop drivers.

ELANTECH Drivers
it shows version 10.0.7.3
I hope this fixes my issue.... ill edit once i reboot
as for nvidia... i just tried installing 285.62 and it worked...
for those interested in how i got the 285.62 drivers to install, i disabled intel express chipset through device manager, then ran the installer... it skipped the error message of not having the right hardware.. bla bla bla
first time i did the installation my laptop screen stayed black and i was forced to reboot... reran the installation file and clicked clean install... when it was done i was running the 285.62 driver... i was also able to switch between dedicated and integrated, a few times before it got caught on integrated and i needed to reboot.
I got a bit cocky and tried to install intel 4 chipset update by replacing driver files... yeap... didnt go too well.... tryign to fix it all and if i can get back to the 285 driver ill measure the discharge rate to see if the dedicate is staying on or not.
*crossing fingers*
EDIT:
okay... the newer elantech driver did fix the issue for me... mouse keys are no longer switched at every reboot....
i got the 285.62 driver back on along with the old intel graphics driver
You can go from dedicated to integrated, but I can not go back to dedicated after that (i have not tried integrated->dedicated->integrated yet)
based off of power consumption... it appears both devices remain powered on, but if you are on integrated, dedicated remains idle (from what i can see from my observations)
anybody else want to give this a shot?
also if anybody knows how to upgrade the integrated intel drivers that would be awesome.. im currently on "Video BIOS: 1706.0"
EDIT2: ive gotten it to switch back to dedicated a few times, but its not consistent... best way is to reboot -
I didn't have to disable anything to load the driver, it was as easy as downloading it.
As for the graphics switch, when my laptop boots into Windows, it does the switch from onboard to Nividia about 20 seconds into desktop all by itself. I can manually switch it back to onboard once, but like you, I cannot switch it back into Nvidia without rebooting.
As for power consumption, I need to break out my Kill-A-Watt and check, but I would bet my last dollar that it is indeed stuck with both cards running and no power savings. I'll post back myself with power measurements later. -
The nvidia defiantly shuts off for me, however the overall power consumption seems to be slightly higher. (1/4-1/8 more consumption on avg)
Mine did the automatic switch on its own at first but now it takes ~3+ reboots to get the dedicated to load first... im not sure why. Are you booting on power detection mode or dedicated card setting?
Also, do you usually reboot or shutdown... ive been having a much higher success rate when shutting down then rebooting... dont know if its coincidence or something else... haha
I tried to find out a way to wake up the dedicated after it ktfo's but im a little stumped on how to do this. my last idea of trying to use the 285 installer to wake up the nvidia card failed -
So I just made the ill-advised decision to uninstall the G210's stock drivers and install the latest nvidia drivers over it. Seems now I've lost the G210's functionality completely. How can I fix this?
Is there any sane way to install the latest nvidia drivers? -
Re-install the stock drivers and then install the latest drivers over the originals, do not remove them. The new Nvidia installer takes care of everything, no need to uninstall anything. Just take note of how we stated the latest drivers work, they are not foolproof and you will probably shorten battery life even while on the Intel GMA and the switch back and forth is not going to work as well.

Hey guys, I have a ul80vt and for a few months now I've been having a freezing problem where when I watch any video, on the desktop or on youtube, fullscreen or not, at some random time it will just freeze up for about a minute or so... but it's weird the audio still tries to play so I just hear this super slow motion audio playing. This happens often, like if I watch a 20 minute TV episode, it will freeze up like twice during that time, and then I have to take my ear buds out so I don't hear the awful noise, and wait a minute or so for it to eventually play, but then I have to rewind back a minute in the video... so yeah it's very annoying, and I've already tried re-installing video drivers and stuff.
-
-
well that's nice to hear that it will possibly go away on it's own. and thanks for the tip about hibernating it to unfreeze it quicker.
edit: uhoh, slight problem here. for me, when it freezes, pressing the power button to hibernate does nothing, and when it finally unfroze, only then did it hibernate. damn I wonder what the heck is wrong with it. -
awee man! weird... I know this is a long shot, but if the problem started recently maybe you could try a system restore to a few days prior. Sorry the hibernate trick didnt work...
does the problem occur on dedicated, integrated, or on both? -
I tried to update nvidia drivers for my ul50vt from clean windows home premium 64 bits with no luck i made what people are saying we are supposed to do i installed fresh windows installed asus stock drivers, then disable the intel gpu from control panel and tried to instal new nvidia drivers 285.62 from nvidia stock drivers but still getting the hardware error message (this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics harware)
this driver thing is driving me nuts if someone can help me i would appreciate it -
Don't disable anything.
-
I got a new battery about a week ago.
Last night my battery indicator started flashing yellow-green-yellow-green...
It does this with and without the power cord plugged in.
What is causing this? -
What ssd:s are you guys using with ul50vt? I have been having some hard time with ssd:s. Crucial c300 reboots every once in a while, and has some kind of conflict with the cdrom in windows 7. Sometimes i can use the cdrom, others not (it disappears from win7, and im sure its the ssd because with hd it works fine). It also reboots the machine occationally.
Vertex II works perfectly except that the hibernate function did not work . When the machine resumed from hibernate it crashed.....
Id like to get the machine working properly with an ssd (hibernation included). So thats why im asking. -
My power button pushed in too far today and broke. I can barely get it to turn on.
Is this a known issue or is it just me?
I may have to fix it myself as it looks like they are saying it is damage caused by the user..... I guess I turned it on too much..... shhhhessssh
I may need a dis-assembly manual.
ul80vt-a2 -
No problems with Hibernate / Suspend
Make sure your running the latest Bios (or fairly current release) and AHCI mode is set in Bios -
I will newer buy a OCZ product again! -
can ul80vt wx002v upgrade memory up to 8GB?
-
this is the ram i bought
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ
I just installed windows 8 consumer preview on this, and everything is running smoothly other than a few video refresh bugs that I know are due to the old nvidia drivers :\ not sure what to do. windows 8 developer preview worked flawlessly with the drivers available to us
**EDIT**
Okay i got something stable going... after a few days of toying around...
Ive peaked at around a 12 hour battery life by downclocking the processor below 1ghz. the laptop runs smoothly for office suite. I had powerpoint, publisher, and word opened with no indications of slow downs.
Ive also overclocked to 1.95ghz and the increase has actually been fairly noticeable and stable. It also sped up the ram and I broke the 6.0 WEI barrier on this laptop!

Has anynone mount on UL50VT a ssd instead of hard disk, and simultaneously an hard disk into dvd slot?
Is it possibile?
Have I purchase an adaptor?
thanks -
I am following this thread a few months, and it is very useful. I am the happy owner of Asus UL80VT, and I am thinking about to upgrade my Asus with backlit keyboard. I found very useful articles here about upgrading UL30VT, but none about UL80VT backlit keyboard modification. Fortunately, I found a great pictures of Asus UL80VT backlit keyboard mod at: Photo Gallery

Hey, guys. So I'd like to reinstall Windows 7 64 on my UL80VT. What is the recommended minimum driver/software to install after reinstalling windows? And is there any particular order or anything else I should know when doing a fresh windows install on this guy?
I'm also curious if there is any reliable way of getting the UL80VT to recognize and output on an external HDTV via HDMI. I've never been able to get it to work and now, I'm in a situation where it would be really, really, really, nice if it did. -
Driver Bundle (for UL50 but I think its the same as ul80 drivers, might be slight differences though for wifi etc): http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/677471-asus-ul50vg-ul50vt-driver-bundle-ndmr.html
Graphics Bundle: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...nvidia260-63-driver-bundle-compiled-ndmr.html -
So this is the latest hybrid driver update there is?
I am really disappointed that there are no official updates. I bought my ASUS UL80VT a little more than 2 years ago and the original manufacturer drivers worked fine for me until now.
I wanted to play FIFA13, and it seemed to work, but when I selected "Play game", then the game crashed without any errors. When I started the game in Save power mode (Intel chipset), then the game worked, but lagged and was low quality, because my pc was on low performance.
I googled and found out that this is a graphics problem and an update for the drivers should fix the problem. The I found out that the latest driver for my Nvidia GeForce G210M does not work because it does not support hybrid technology. So I downloaded that 260.63 driver bundle and when I got it working fine after the third attempt, FIFA13 ingame menus worked perfectly but the game still crashed before kick-off.
But it's wierd, because it did not crash while trying to play skill games, only before kick-off.
I know that my problem is only game-related and it may be a bit offtopic, but still, are there maybe some other things to try with my graphics card?
Anyways, thanks in advance. -
When I have installed the newest Intel and NVIDIA drivers (with the modded inf), my nvidia painel tell me that I'm not using a NVIDIA GPU card, whilst the intel painel has no problem to run. And is almost impossible to run FIFA 13 with Intel Graphic Card.
My idea is if we could disable Intel graphic card, and use only the dedicated one. Only in that case, of course. But I don't know how to do it. Intel is always interfering.
If someone know how to do that, I'll be very grateful.
Sorry my bad english. -
~ WINDOWS 8 - 64 BIT - Windows8 ~
Okay, so I took the plunge and performed a clean install with Windows 8. Upon fresh boot;
Both GPUs where installed, and the Nvidia was using a June 2012 driver. I did not test the GPU functionality, oops.
Wifi was working out of the box.
Ethernet was installed, but was unable to obtain an IP.
No Camera drivers, and Mic not working either
Sound workes fine.
Touchpad works, but has no specific elan driver, and running awful sensitivity. - This needs to be addressed
Missing Bloatware;
Asus FN key software to be able to use the FN keys
Power4Gear - Overclocking control, profile
GPU switching support
First thing I wanted was some proper GPU support, so I used the crappy Original release
Now I'm trying MSI Kombustor (Great bench mark) and i'm scoring 6-7 fps in the benchmark (yuk), about 350-400 points, and 30 fps in the burn-in test. Not sure why.
Still unable to change gpus.
Ideally, I would like a pc capable of switching GPU's, and power off Nvidia to save battery power. Battery life is important to me, more so then GPU gaming on an old system.
I have yet to try NDMr's driver solution. -
Hi i would like to ask if anyone has managed to run PlanetSide 2 on Ul80VT?
im currently on stock GPU drivers. with Nvidia System tools.
When i run PS2, it gives me an about 0.3 second delay in rendering, making it unplayable.
Is this the issue of GPU or CPU?
Should i try overclocking GPU/CPU?
my GPU already peaks at 90 Degrees Celsius when playing other games without OC -

ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS UL80Vt
Version V8.15.11.8688
Description nVidia Graphics Driver
nVidia Graphics Driver for Win7 64 bit
File Size
116,79 (MBytes) 2009.09.18 update

I also emailed Asus who weren't a lot of help, but the did have a few reasonable recommendations when running Windows 8 on a UL80VT. Try out their stuff if you want, I put my personal recommendations as well:
~~~
ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities
Version V1.0.0024
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download ATKPackage
I believe this will also replace the ATKSOD (On Screen Display) that you will need) This ATK packaged works great for me.
~~~
Power4Gear Hybrid Utility
Version V2.1.7
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Power4Gear Hybrid
This version of P4G appears to work well with Windows 8. But I can't seem to Disable / Enable Overclocking with it, so its stuck on or off state, depending on your last settings. Personally I prefer version 1.2.2 or 1.1.50, since they gave complete control, although they're not officially W8 compatible.
~~~
Elantech Touchpad driver
Version V11.5.0.9
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Touchpad
I also wasn't really happy with this version of Touchpad drivers. Both versions of their V10.5.10.0 (Both 142 MB's) and other 10.5.x and 10.0.5.x releases seem like the winners here. They're actually a must compared to the factory drivers of 8 MBs, or any of the 'Smartpad' releases which see really bizzare. I also recommend these version in Win 7, they fix that over touchy over sensitive touchpad whenever you try to type things.
~~
Has anyone found better luck with improved drivers, video or to otherwise?
Cheers,
I know this might be a long shot.
But has anyone been able to update their UL80VT to windows 10?
I am going from Windows 7 to 10. It looks like it does the upgrade okay. But I only get a black screen upon windows 10 boot.
I am sure it has to do with the NVIDIA 210M hybrid card.
Any Ideas? Thanks a lot!! -
I have been using Windows 10 on the 80VT for the last 9 months or so. I assume you have the non-pro version of Windows 10, so will need to block automatic updates by NVIDIA and fully uninstall the updated driver from the OS. To uninstall, enter safe mode and open device manager to find the graphics card. Click uninstall. Make sure to check the box that asks if you want to delete the driver files during the uninstall. Go uninstall all NVIDIA components found in the uninstall programs window (Programs & Features). Delete both remaining NVIDIA folders in the Program Files directories (x86 and x64).
Open C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and find the file that is ~260 megabytes (most likely the NVIDIA driver). You can verify by opening the file with 7zip and looking at the contents. Copy the file name down then delete it. Double check there are no folders with the same name.
You will then need to prevent the update from ever attempting to reinstall. You can try to prevent future driver downloads by searching for "Change device installation settings" in the search bar and telling windows to not update your drivers. This will prevent all hardware from updating, but keeps the graphics driver from being overwritten. In the case that an updated driver continues to reinstall, try one or more of the following options.
Option 1: Create a blank file on your desktop with an identical filename to the file you just deleted. Make sure to remove any file type extensions. If you do not get a dialog that you are changing the file type and its association to a program then you are not doing something right. Right click -> Properties -> Read Only. Then place it into the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. This is probably the most effective way to block future NVIDIA installs at the moment, but with each update NVIDIA pushes the ID will change and you will have to repeat the process.
Option 2: Alternatively you and disable the Windows Update service entirely and activate it whenever you need to update. This does introduce security risks by not automatically patching holes or keeping Windows Defender up to date.
Option 3: Your third option is to download the Windows 10 Hide Update Troubleshooter Package ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930). You can hide updates with that file by Microsoft, but from my experience, the NVIDIA update slips through from time to time even if it is blocked. Even if microsoft fixes up this tool, new patches by NVIDIA will slip through.
Installing the old driver (Modified from original at http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-...id-graphics-ul80vt-ul50vt-ul30vt-windows.html)
For laptops as Asus UL80Vt, UL50Vt and UL30Vt
1. Install Windows 10
2. Go to “System Drive”:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and remove two folders with started string "nv_lh.int"(NVIDIA standard driver) and “igdlh11.inf” (INTEL standard driver) in folder name.
3. Uninstall both Display adapters from Device Manager (mark ‘Delete the driver software for this device’).
4. Restart your computer.
5. Download from
VGA latest driver #186.88 for 64 bit which was supported NVIDIA Hybrid Power technology with Intel chipsets just unpack it, or you can use your install disc (DVD:\Software\Display\nVidia) do not install!.
6. Go to Device manager, now you should see two “Microsoft Basic Display Adapters” under “Display adapters”
7. Go to “Properties” for second adapter and under “Details” check “Hardware Ids”. It should be PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_..........
8. If no check another adapter
9. If yes go to “Driver” and click “Update Driver” tab choose “Browse my computer for driver software” browse to nVidia driver
location (mark Include subfolders) and click “Next”
10. One glitch - your Desktop may disappear, don’t worry, wait 10 minutes (or check install finish on taskbar) and restart
11. Install driver just for nVidia adapter, for Intel it was installed automatically.
12. Download Windows 8.1 latest version of Asus Power4Gear Hybrid and Windows 10 version of the ATK Package from the following ASUS page and install
P4GH: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=Power4GearHybrid&os=41
ATK Package: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ATKPackage&p=3&s=813&os=45&hashedid=n/a
13. Restart.
You can control active Display adapters in notification area.
Same problem.. Black screen with movable cursor after update from win8pro.. is there a way to disable Nvidia from BIOS or hardware
-
Hi there! So I can confirm that this forum was very helpful, as I have been using windows 10 on my ASUS UL50VT for a week!! Really happy as it works very smooth and have not had any issues with it so far. Performance and functionality works excellent, besides a couple of issues I’ve listed in question 2.
1. I’m a noob when it comes to understanding how this is actually all working. Can someone please explain how I am actually seeing my screen without NVIDIA? Am I running off the safe display driver or something like that that’s built in by default? I’m confused on how this is even working… 3d games so far seem to play fairly well. I am able to play ASPHALT 8, a windows app game that I downloading and it runs great, but I am not sure how this actually happening. How I am actually seeing anything on the screen for that matter without NVIDIA?
2. HDMI issue that I am having and SCREEN MIRRORING not working/connected? I cannot connect to any TV via HDMI or Screen Mirror. I’m assuming this has something to do with no NVIDIA drivers. Is this correct? The HDMI does not recognize any device when I look under display settings. This is the biggest bummer so far! Also, I have a roku TV that allows for screen mirroring and my computer does recognize and see that it is there under connections, but cannot figure out how to actually mirror my computer to the TV. I’m assuming this has something to do with WIDI, however I know that this computer does have Bluetooth, so would it be possible to somehow connect wirelessly?
I’ve been searching everywhere so far and have not been able to find anything about HDMI or screen mirroring that is useful for my situation. Any advice or comments are welcomed and appreciated!
Thanks for reading! -
