Probably because I still remember and still have the packaging of my battery (N81Vp-D2) and it stated there that the battery should only be use in these models: F8xxx,L80xxx,N80xxx,N81xxx,A8xxx,PRO80xxx,Z99xxx, X81xxx, X80xxx, X83xxx

So if the battery that you have found from the internet was compatible/from X80Le model then I think it should also fitted in our N81Vp-D2 laptop and that would be great because it has higher capacity.Well, that's my opinion maybe someone will confirm that...

    Hi everyone!
I was wondering how the build quality is on the n81vp-d2 (or any n81vps...) compared to the ul80vt is.. Is the quality on the n81 much more sturdy than the ul80?

Also, whats the quality on the screen of the n81vp to the ul80? I was wondering which would be better if I was to watch movies with friends or family. I'm having a hard time deciding because I heard the build quality wasn't so good on the ul80, and I don't know how much gaming I'll be doing and what quality I want.

Could the n81 run CoD: MW 2 on high quality with AA on and stuff?

    Thanks.

Also, whats the MAX number of hours on battery you could get on the n81? Cause the Ul80 could get up to 10+...

Anyone about the screen quality and build quality compared to the ul80?
Also about running CoD: MW 2 on high quality with AA and stuff?

Also, I tried reading through the thread and people listed different battery life. Whats the MAX number of hours of battery life that could be obtained?

    -Thanks.

Hey everyone, I just ordered an N81VP-D2 from ncix for a great price (plus there is a $100 mail-in rebate this month).

It really has great spec's for a 14".

I can't wait for it to arrive!

I got my machine today and it is great.

Only thing is: certain keys on the left edge of the keyboard 'rattle'.

How do I remove the keyboard so I can put something to fill the gaps there?

Otherwise, solid performance: 6635 points in 3DMark06.

I usually just look at it straight on. I did notice the colour and image quality are better than my Samsung Q320.

Unfortunately I can't check angles for you now as I dropped it off at the service center to get the keyboard replaced.

They say it may be ready today or tomorrow :)

Hi I just purchased n81vp-d2. I want to dual boot it with win xp x64 pro. However I am having difficulty finding compatible XP 64 bit drivers. Because ASUS support does not have the 64 bit drivers.

Anyone have experience installing Windows xp 64 bit on this laptop?

    Thanks.

Hi to all forum members. Merry Christmas from Colombia, South America!!!!!
In the next week I will be the happy owner of a new Asus N81VP-D1 laptop. I have hear so much, I could not stand away. Just for $849.95 in Buy.com!
Since this laptop comes with Windows Vista Home Premium x64, guess what? To the trash can! Which means, I will install another OS. I will be doing a triple BATTLE FOR THE THRONE!!!! And the wrestlers will be:
    1. Windows 7 x64(not too hard anyway, since this laptop is just one close step down from the N81VP-D2, which already comes with W7).
    2. Windows XP x64(ahhh, here comes the chalenge!cosmic99, ASUS support site does have some drivers for XP x64, like Bluetooth, in the XP divers section. Its just a matter of viewing the contents of the ZIP file. I will tell you later)
    3. Linux x64(mmmm, pretty neat, isnt it?I would choose Ubuntu or Kubuntu, who knows...)
I hope to give you all details on my terrific experiments!Maybe even with OVERCLOCKING!
    See you!

Has anyone been able to get the fingerprint reader to work yet?

It shows up as fine in Device Manager, but when I try to turn on fingerprint in control panel it tells me it can't find a fingerprint reader or it is in use by another program.

If I try the TrueSuite program it just keeps asking me to locate the fingerprint reader (like it can't see it).

It happened to me before and my fingerprint reader was not working. I also found out that only Uninstall AuthenTec Truesuite was available as my selection in the menu.

But I figured it out and it worked. First, create a password for your system or your windows 7 then, just go to C:\Program Files\TrueSuite\ and run TrueSuiteFMA.exe. It'll load up the interface to register your fingerprint. After registration, restart windows and then swipe your registered finger....

A few questions from a perspective buyer:

Is there a software fix to switch the use of ctrl and fn keys?

how does the Asus N81Vp-D2: C2d 2.8Ghz,1066FSB,6MB L2 Cache, 4GB DDR2 800, ATI HD 4670 1GB DDR3 RAM, 320 GB 7200rpm perform for games, I am looking at some upcoming games such as Bioshock 2 and Mass effect 2 ?

Does the Asus N81vp-d2 currently ship with 64bit OS?

I was pleasantly surprised with my N81VP having the CTRL and FN keys in the correct position (CTRL to the left of FN).

I don't know about the games you mentioned, but I get 6600+ on 3DMark06, and can run NFS:Shift 1366x768 full details, 8xAA smoothly.

Yes, it ships with Windows 7 x64.

Where did you order it from?

    another question:
Does the n81vp-d2 come with ddr3 or gddr3 video ram, how large a performance difference is there?

Idont know(yet) whether N81VP-D2 comes with a DVD, but it does come with a recovery partition. Usual thing in these days.
Clean install? Perhaps, but it will take you longer than cleaning the crippleware, and some piece of bundled software does prove to be useful.

Yes! The unit comes with pre-installed Windows 7 HP 64bit and a 3 DVD discs included: 1 DVD for all drivers (32bit and 64bit)and some apps like Trend Micro antivirus, adobe reader..., 1 for Windows 7 HP 64bit recovery disc and 1for Power director/player/disc burner.

and Yes!,i suggest to do a reformat with your system (to remove the bloatwares or apps that is not needed) and install all the necessary drivers and apps. But if you more experience and knows what to do then just uninstall the apps that you dont need it like the Trend micro antivirus which is crap and only have a trial of 30days and you dont need an ASUS SmartLogon as it was not so secured...etc etc...

I found mine for $25, a google search reveals some for $20. It fits very snugly, with a little room on the sides (like 1/16 inch, or less).

The memory foam is nice and thick, not too much, but enough to protect it twice during two bicycle accidents (while in my backpack).

It looks pretty awesome, and made out of hemp!

Hey everyone - so I ran SiSandra on my new n81vp-d2 and I got some curious results. It stated that the MB could handle 8GB of RAM, not 4GB. It also said it could take DDR3 RAM.

As far as the GPU - its underclocked by quite a bit. Is anyone overclocking it to 4650 or 4670 stock memory speeds? I have no plans to right now but I'd love to hear what people are up to.

Ive overcklocked both, CPU and GPU.

For GPU im using GPUTool CTP1. You can download it here: >>CLICK<<

For CPU Overclocking im using SetFSB: >>CLICK_again<<
Very Important before OC with setfsb: you have to chose the right clockgenerator: For Asus N81 it's ICS9LPR362AGLF

For me, absolutely stable settings are: 685 Mhz GPU, 825 Mhz RAM and for the CPU 2,93 Ghz.( Unfortunately, for CPU more isn't possible because of 1066Mhz RAM)

As display drivers im using Ati Cat. 9.12 Vista32 for desktop.
    All together: >7060 3DM06 @1208x1024 :)

    Thanks for the info ds4444.

GPU Tool doesn't work on my system. It launches and doesn't let me do anything, and I have to force end it.

I'm running W7 Home Premium, 64-bit. What is your setup? Did you have to do anything besides installing it to get it to work?

No, i didnt. Just start the GPUTool CTP1 and change the clocks.

Which Ati driver do you actually use?
Maybe the display driver for your 64-bits system causes the problem....

These are the ASUS "stock" driver, arent they?
Which ATI Catalyst Control Center do you have actually installed?
(You know...>>right click on desktop>> ATI Catalyst Control Center>>Graphics>>information center>>graphics software and than the number behind "catalyst version"...)

Ok, first you have to update your display driver you are using at the moment. For this, download the newest display drivers from ATI Homepage: >>click<< (Don't worry, you can use the Ati 9.12 for Win7_64 i linked in) and than use the "Mobility Modder" (u can download it here : >>click<< )

After modding you can install the official Ati Drivers and than the "GPU Tool" should work. "Should" because im not sure if it works on a 64-bit OS...#

    As i wrote: 9.12 from 12/17/2009 :p

    @kamran9558:
    ^^Difficult to answer.
    - Can you definitely except any software/driver problems?
    - Any thermal problems? What temps do you have when idle?

    @mystery905:
    - i know thats a very bad hint :) , but changing the OS to 32-bit saves you much headache.... In my opinion, for private usage, a 64-bit OS do more problems than benefits.

hey ds444 thanks for the reply,

im not sure about any sw/hw issue, but regarding heating problem the only thing i know is that i dont hear any kind of noise from fan in idle/normal computing, fan only kicks in when im using any heavy app. i have absolutely no idea how o troubleshoot this issue, i have done a clean install of windows 7 from the recovery cd and i have some acer utilities installed along with skype, ms office 2007, firefox, msn, kaspersky internet sec 2010,

    @ kamran9558:

Just to be sure you dont have thermal problems:
Download and install RMClock Utility and tell how your temperatures are in idle mode.
    e.g.: my idle temps (Win7 32 Prof) usually are @ 28 (-/+ 2 C°) OR 82 °F (-/+ 1 °F)

Try a recovery to factory state and see if it still happens in order to rule out a software issue.

If it still happens, call up Asus to explain and get an RMA.

I have the exact same issue! I just got my Asus V81Vp-D2 a few weeks back. And starting yesterday, it started dying like how you described it. It's plugged in and fully charged... so it's not a battery issue I don't think.

Since we both have this problem... maybe it's an Asus problem?

P.S. my keyboard isn't responsive at times when I type fast... not sure if this is just with me...

I just bought an n81vp-d2 and did a clean install of win 7 pro. I now have 2 base system devices:
    1) PCI\VEN_1180&DEV0592&SUBSYS_19C71043&REV_12
    2) PCI\VEN_1180&DEV0843&SUBSYS_19C71043&REV_12

Any ideas? Win 7 already picked up a fingerprint and remote control driver...

I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my N81V. It corrupted in one day, just like Vista did 5 times. Not only that, the clean install took 16 hours. Ridiculous!!! After 7 restores/clean installs, the N81V is RMA'd for the second time in 2 months. I think I have a major LEMON!!

    @ osomphane:

Yes, me! Its the Ricoh Card Reader. Download the drivers from ASUS' Homepage for your OS. Than the problem should be fixed.
