I have to downgrade to a 32 bit system. Do you guys recommend XP or go down to Vista 32 Bit? ..

I've downloaded the wireless files. Do I execute both of the exe files that are in the x32 folder? Is this how to install them?

    WOOHOO!!!! Boston beat LA 131-92

    Anyways, back on topic....

@Kohkane: the M50Sv-A1 has Vista 32bit installed. Unless you run programs that are not Vista compatible, I suggest sticking with Vista. With SP1, Vista is now a lot more stable than when it was first released.

@scooberdoober: You need to contact MS to get the hotfix download. It's really stupid how they do it now, but Ken just sent you the link which you can download directly from filefront :)

@Ken: did you watch the game?? It was amazing!! Don't hate me for supporting Boston :p

click the dpinst32.exe to install the driver.

Yes I was watching the game.......Boston can't have it all, Red Sox already won World Series last year and now NBA champion...

Is this how they spell Boston?:

I bought my M50Sv with Vista 64 Bit thinking I could get the edge but turns out it doesnt let me run the programs I need.

    Still XP or Vista 32bit?

I started out with Vista 32 on mine, and I didn't like it much, incompatabilities, crashes, etc. I'm in the process of installing XP right now.

For one thing, it wouldn't let me change by audio device settings. For another it crashed CSS regularly. Besides that I just didn't like Vista. I liked the way it looked, but other than that I like XP better, and it runs rock stable for me with everything I need it to.

The ATK0100 should be for the hotkeys.

It's for the FN keys and function buttons: wireless on/off, power4gear etc,. there are 4 you need to install and it's in your drivers DVD:

    ATK0100
    ATKHotkey
    ATKOSD2
    ATKMedia

Any reason not to use the Ricoh_R5C833 card reader driver from the Asus site? It's a higher version number driver than the one that emporiumboutique posted.

I've been a long time reader of these forums and as a result I recently bought a M50SV-A1 with an upgrade to a Bluray player and Vista Ultmate 32 bit and I have been more than happy with it.
I'm now in the market for a new monitor for my desktop and was thinking finding something that I could also use to plug into my notebook to watch Bluray movies. I found the Samsung 225MS 22" monitor which includes an HDMI port and finally my question is would the 9500M GS of my notebook be able to handle playing a full screen Bluray movie at 1680 x 1050?

    Thanks

WCONSOLE allows you to enable/disable wifi/bluetooth using hotkey.

You can use the new card reader driver if you want to, the one emporiumboutique posted is just as good, at least I couldn't tell the difference.

512MB Video RAM is more than enough to handle the Samsung 22" screen and the resolution 1680 x 1050.

scooberdoober, if you check my Vista optimization guide you will find a list of ASUS utilities that I find useless. So that you don't have to ask about each and every one of them :)

Also, AFAIK the ATK driver is also involved with other power management items than the hotkeys, like CPU and fan control, standby and resume, hibernation...

Not sure if you tried this, but have your tired reinstalling the driver software?

Wow.. that's like a 20% improvement! Nice job Ken!
By the way, was this on XP or Vista?

Yes, the multimedia touchpad works on XP. You HAVE to install the drivers touchpad driver from the drivers CD in order for it to work. After that, just go to your mouse properties -> device settings ->settings -> Tapping -> tap zones-> enable tap zones. Then go to Dual mode and check the box "switch to button mode by tapping in the upper-right corner"

Dual mode is under the 'tapping' category. If you don't have it, try install the original touchpad driver from your drivers disk. Your notebook will prompt a message saying the disk is for Vista only, but just close the window and go to My Computer... right click on your D: drive and select explore. Open and install the Setup file for the touchpad and see if that'll work.

Yes, that works too. Just install the audio driver and it should automatically install the Realtek HD audio manager as well and that's where you can select various Dolby settings.

Can you check what driver version you have?
Open the "32bit" folder and then open SYNPD
    I have: DriverVer=11/16/2007, 10.1.6.0
is this the same as what you have?

Yes, that's the rule of thumb when installing new drivers. Always uninstall the previous one first.
To uninstall, go to your device manager, find the "Mouse and other pointing devices" -> right click on Synaptics PS/2 and select uninstall

hurt to reinstalling smart log in. do you get anyother errors at all? If all else fails reinstall vista.

I've been through all 108pgs of this thread, and it seems like no one else has had this problem (or maybe i missed something?). Does anyone know what could be wrong? Same issue does not occur with external speakers, and yes sadly when I put the balance all the way to the left, nothing came out of that speaker! I really hope this isn't a hardware issue.....I tried finding the drivers but to no avail...

It was like this straight out of the box...

hmm... your speaker problem is the first that i've heard of with the M50Sv. I'd try installing SP1 a shot and reinstall the driver from the drivers disk....if that still doesn't work, you should RMA it or take it back to the place you purchased it.

    thanks for the quick replies...

I was planning on installing XP anyway, so maybe that will correct the problem. I'd hate to think its a hardware problem, but i guess these things happen...if i install XP, do you think I'll still be able to take it back to the place I purchased it without hassel?

Thanks for the quick response Ken.

I've found the PDF manual for the Samsung 225MS and regarding its HDMI port is says 'You cannot connect a PC to the HDMI IN terminal'. I was thinking that I would connect my notebook to the monitor using the HDMI ports, so this is not possible?

    Thanks

Almost every notebook HDMI ports are "HDMI-out", so you won't have a problem playing a DVD from your notebook and displaying it on an external screen/TV. Likewise, you will not be able to use a TV and hook it up via HDMI to display the images on the TV to your notebook.
