Based on your idle temperature, I think your Powermizer is also not working.

Can you check your idle GPU clocks (either CPU-Z or GPU-Z will show it)?

What does your GPU-Z say? Temperature doesn't mean much by itself if we don't know your clocks. If your GPU-Z says your clocks are 500 Core, and 800 Memory, then your Powermizer isn't working just like mine isn't working.

I'm using NTools to downclock my Core and Memory to 200 (lowest my Memory will go) and shaders to 625 before there is a confirmed driver that fixes this.

I also have this laptop and have been doing extensive testing on it, so far i have done a slight overclock with power4gear included with this system clock went from 2.13ghz to 2.3 ghz not much and is hardly noticable, how ever i have been able to overclock the gpu a great amount with only going over a few degrees celcius over the stock clocks, this laptop has awesome cooling for the gpu and can be safetly over clocked to these speeds playing crysis wars online for 3 hours straight gpu clock = 611, memory= 899, shader =1441. it does have a little room for more but it will generate a little more heat it would provice only slight performance, this i found to be the most stable clocks. i use nvidia tools to do this under the performance tab since ntune did not work properly got the blue screen because its not compatible with 64 bit. hope this helps. crysis runs great btw, native res. shadows n objects tuned down to game everything else up all the way aa 0x

I'm not sure how dual booting works with Windows 7 but I see no reason why there would be a problem.

It comes with 1 HD, so you will have to buy another one. You don't need 2 HDs to dual boot, you just need to repartition the HD into separate pieces.

    It's a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN.

I don't think the $1199 version is worth it... that processor upgrade is not strong enough to be worth $150 or so.

Well it really comes down to what you need, i mean the 9cell alone is worth 150-175 on most retailers, a P8700 sells around $200, and the 320gb driver is like $80 or so, all this more than justify the difference, but its about if you really need it. Also at $1200 you can also get the G72gx, which you would also gain better resolution screen 1600x900.

Battery life will be the usual 2-3 hours I'm guessing, a bit more if you turn everything down. Warranty is standard 1 year through BB, but you can purchase BB's extended 3 year warranty.

You may want to purchase from Asus or a reseller however as I believe they offer a better warranty off the bat.

Yeah. I think I'm going to call shennanigans on 74C for the GPU.

Even I haven't gotten sub-80 on Crysis, and my machine is covered in copper blocks and the bottom panel is modded.

What do you get in Furmark?

If you dont beleive me thats fine, i have nothing to really prove to you. Anyways im using gpu-z to monitor. This laptop seems to run cooler than any other gaming laptop I have had. Last one I had was a 6860fx gateway with t9300 processor. That had 8800 in it which seemed to run hotter than my 260m. Im also using modified drivers for the 260m as well. Got them from laptop2go or something.

Battery life on this is about 2 hours on power save doing regular usage. If you have it on the power4 setting then expect about an hour and 20 mins.

Howard's awesome Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor with link from BestBuy reviews, along with all the following discussions here, finally solved the agony of shopping for an affordable WoW gaming laptop for me.

Thanks Howard and all the ASUS posters-you taught me a lot about what is important but now can ya'll help me set this thing up and correct what I must have already screwed up?
Bought one on 10/25 and this is the first time I have been able to get past the IE8 'Sorry IE can't display this webpage' messages to get back here to ask my burning questions???

Is it me or did I get a lemon??
Howard- Did a warranty card come in your box? Zero in mine
Did anything in the box have the specs written on it? Not mine and not on box either.
How many discs came with it? I got 3
The user manual only has about 10 pages and really does nothing to help a non-techy set it up. Help me, I'm dying here guys.

First off, had great problem connecting to wireless network (a neighbor's router cause I have no connection myself). The on/off wireless seems real loose and kinda rattles with too much play when you touch it.
Then I couldn't view any IE websites-( including ASUS) so couldn't get an online manual or help there-still can't. So was forced to accept trial of Trend Micro AV that came with computer. BOOM! After they updated and installed it, I thought I was beginning to make progress. Updated Win 7 for a whole day with wireless connection coming and going (how do I reset network adapter on this thing?).
Tried to remove Trial MS Office bloatware without success.
Started tweaking prefs and learning more about IE8 and Win7 when I could see pages off and on-looked for fix for that-no luck.

Then system and wireless connection got even more unstable, and became very, very much slower than it already was from start- Micro Trend AV sent notification that they 'were sorry but one of their updates was bad and was causing system instability and network connections problems' (after I had used system restore to the previous day already!) Ouch- the fixes they said to do for it were way over my head.

Finally finished Win7 updates, more from Micro Trend AV and began downloading WoW from my acct online...It's at 53% after 12th hour. Wireless connection comes and goes but says strength is excellent. 9 more days to see if I should keep laptopor return for exchange.

Worse, I still don't have a clue how to set up the partitions or make the right decision re that...think I have 3 choices but theyare all greek to me.

As you can tell- I am fixing to whine and feel entirely over my head in setting this baby up. My Toshiba A205-5000 set up fast, cruised the net fast, updated fast and played WoW great til patch 3.2 so you can understand why I might be wondering if I have a lemon or have lost my marbles with this ASUS.

    What should I do?
    Catzpaz

I do not have any mark program on my computer either. Is there a demo I can grab to show you ? and element why don`t you find yourself a friend besides being a grumpy forum goer. I dont post here to get flamed i post to give information so if your going to be rude dont post to what i`m saying at all. thanks.

Well... here the thing, some of us, including myself find it hard to believe, since the G60 is basically the same as the G51. Which is known to be a hot runing laptop over intensives tests. Even the G51J is going toward the 97C in Crysis, given its a much higher res than G60, it should be going at least to high 80s.

Personally what i dont wish to happen is comments like yours give a wrong impression, to people looking for a laptop or even getting discomfort of what they own expecting certain temps.

Im not blaming you, nor i dont want to sound like im coming down to you, i presonally would like to see evidence under the same conditions that the G51 has been judge to validate the claims in your comments like other posted above Furmark or OCCT are good stresstest back up the statements.

If I had Crysis, I would be able to test this out and call it a day.

I can't remember my temps from running 3Dmark06, but I am sure the GPU did not go into the 80s.

I don't intend to run Furmark until I get my notebook cooler, as I don't really intend the card to ever be running so hot.

Is 1.05 the final? I'm downloading that now (now too large of a file) and will run it. Stock cooling and no notebook cooler - for now.

Nevermind, that looks like a tool that requires the actual Demo to run. Too lazy to download a huge demo for now.
