    How to fix this problem:
I inserted into this laptop 2 Seagate's 500GB 7200.4 wGF disks, but they was from G50V in which they was set into RAID0, and now i installed Asus recovery disc (i choosed option set one partition), and i can't access second disc - it shows RAID0 - 1TB space on 500GB physical disc, see - attached. RemoveRAID.jpg
I tried to remove this disc, then added it to desktop as USB drive through SATA<>USB system, removed everything so it is fully clean and has no partitions on it.
I don't want to reinstall again it is no more interesting.
I can't ghost it with hiren-10-Ghost11 - from Asus partition >> clean drive.
And others Hiren partition tools don't work.
I believe someone of You know some tools to rip this stupid RAID0 off.
Please post if You know. Thanks!

anyone here use the razer mouse? the mouse has built in ability to change dpi on command, this might be the reason why a lot of the asus freezes.

did you guys delete the nvida physx drivers?

Boot in to hirens boot cd or any other boot cd (ultimate/erd/linux/..) and just wipe all the raid config and os and everything.
Not like you can salvage the old os install in a new notebook and keep it fully functional.
An external hdd docking is very useful these days.
Even original w7 install dvd has partitioning at the start.
Try to install and wipe hdd-s 1by1.

yes using razer mouses on my pc-s
No after installing razer driver on my desktop realized how crap it is and useless, limited macro capability on my keyboar to the point it is just crap.
My x year old n52/n50 age old software runs circles arouns what razer can come up with.

Copperhead can change dpi only by it's driver software not like lachesis that has buttons on top for it.
No this is not the reason why asus freezes (ppl should just watch what crap they mix up installing)
No physix drivers are needed in many games nowdays, it is not used unless game or software calls the driver for it, and even then got the choice to turn them on/off in game and in driver settings.

I don't want to keep old settings from my old g50V, i just need to remove one big raid partition from second drive, which i suppose is created by Asus recovery disc. In disk management i can't innitialize disc - i get error - [The system cannot find file specified] New Picture.jpg

I use Razer Orochi Bluetooth mouse. Overall I'm happy with it, but it is a little bit slower in BT mode, or maybe i don't know how to configure it right - i keep 900dpi and polling is by default and unchangable 125Hz.
Bluetooth in Win7 works perfect, still i have to use BlueSoleil64.
On G51J is no freeze. I don't think it is mouse - it is other software.
I don't like CopperHead, it has 4 uncomfortable buttons.

I use Physx and latest nvidia whql from nvidia.com

have you tried going into bios, turning the SATA mode to Enhanced and reinstalling the OS? if its arleady in enhanced mode, switch it to Raid, then on boot press ctrl+I. this will bring you to the raid menu, if there is a raid volume, remove it. If there isn't one try creating it and removing it. then try to reinstall the OS.

Now i'm killing both discs :)
Looks like Active KillDisk DOS 4.1 for 1 500GB takes 3 hours.
It is only One pass zeros scheme. I hope it helps :)
Partition Magic shows errors on both discs and i can't define partitions on them.

EIement - G51J does not have hardware RAID controller, but in working or gaming i don't feel difference between G50V RAID0 and G51J simple HDD partition.

:p killdisk is a bit overkill
one of the many fdisk should have been able to delete the partition tables and other util to erase mbr.

Try http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php for low level partitioning, could erase some nasty hp codes from hdd-s with it that nothing else could

So far so good with the copper blocks. I don't own Crysis but played the demo for an hour or so, all settings on high, no AA, never went past 90C. Also no BSOD, I got rid of some of the bloatware but all drivers are stock, with the exception of the GPU, I'm using 195.62. Left the Creative drivers in place as well. Dragon Age was fine too, only played for 2 hours of so though.

My friend ordered the same machine, all stock, no upgrades, and he finally got his first BSOD today.. Played Borderlands for 2 hours, paused the game at that time to pick up his brother from school. Came back and unpaused. Moved one step..then..BAM, BSOD. He restarted the game and has been playing for at least another hour and a half, no problems.

    Good one :)
    Hiren's - Active KillDisk DOS 4.1 helped.
And disks look nice - i have fully clean HDD's - every bit is zero.
Now i can easy install and clone anything.

    Hey guys,
I am thinking of buying the G51J but I also saw the Sager 8662. Unfortunately it runs intel core 2 duo. But its temps are great. I am tired of dealing with temps and I know the G51J's GPU runs hot. (90+ degrees). I was wondering if anyone could give me buying advice. I would have liked the 8690 but its a little over my budget (~$1500) and its battery life is not good at all. The G51J is not any better. But still. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

sager 8662 is core 2 duo. Go for it if you don't need core i7 power. You can configure a 8662 at around $1500.

Is core i7 worth it? Worth the temps? By the way, what temps are you getting on full load? Any more opinions?

Wondering if anyone has gotten Fancystart to work on this computer? I've turned it on in BIOS, and pressed "apply" in the program itself, but I still get the RoG logo after I push the power button.

I couldn't get Fancystart to work either until I disabled the standard asus rog logo from the bios first. Try that.

Fancy Start worked just fine, just enabled it in BIOS, changed background, make sure you check off the enable boxes, use a WAV for the sound, and make sure the selection isn't set to Random of something.

It would appear the the Background and Picture can cancel each other out, I set my picture in the picture section and disabled the background. Worked fine :)

I found out how you can temporarily dim the two side lights on the back while plugged in.

If you unplug the charger then close the lid and put it into sleep mode, the two lights should dim. Then you can plug the charger back in, wake the laptop up and the lights should stay dimmed.

Makes a huge difference in the dark.

Hmm, I can't find anything in the BIOS that would allow me to disable that. I'm using the G60J 205 version (for some reason Asus automatically directed me to the G60J drivers site instead of the G51J), which one are you using?

My bad, I should have specified what I did to disable the rog logo (maybe my case only, not sure). In boot option I toggled 'quiet boot' off, rebooted, then back on. Once I set the fancy start options it worked fine. Didn't until I toggled quiet boot for whatever reason. Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks for the tip, I managed to turn off the RoG screen. Still can't get Fancystart to work though, dunno why (Splendid touch button has also stopped working). I'll probably give Asus a call one of these days to sort it out.

I'm a proud owner of a 1 month old g51j-a1 and I got a question about hdmi output if anyone can figure this out. So I plugged in my laptop via hdmi to my home theater receiver (sony ht-ss2300) and it works fine but I noticed that the audio is only passing through 2 channels (L and R). I know hdmi is more than capable of handling 5.1 or greater plus video passthrough so I'm wondering if any owners were able to enable/force 5.1 audio through hdmi? I tried updating the realtek audio drivers to the latest version and low and behold...that didn't work. I really want to get 5.1 audio working through hdmi so I can get surround sound from movies and video games with one single cable. But if that's not the case then I can try SPDIF for audio and hdmi for video (albeit with a little more cable clutter and input changing with my receiver and tv).

    Cheers,

is it possible to change the current g51j a1 screen with another one with better viewing angles and contrast because the screen looks like grey when it should be black?

There are like 0 unboxing videos on this laptop. I was hoping at least one would pop up :(

I am one of those common person who does not write a review when the product is good. So I took a resolution that I will write a short review on every product that I buy, good or bad. The reason: well People tend to write bad reviews but when they find good product they never appreciate it, and when the same person tries to find review on a product he finds only bad reviews.

So here is the deal. I am satisfied with the service of Xotic PC, even though they took a lot of time to deliver the product for which I was intially angry, but it was expected. On the other hand, it does not mean that Xotic PC will slow down their process when they can deliver it in time.

Now about the product. Asus G51j-A1. It's excellent. If you are angry about it then it can be mostly one reason only. YOu are a very picky person and a hardcore gamer who want the best, and it's better you buy a desktop. But this product lives upto the name.
    1) Screen quality, it's awesome.
    2) Feeling of typing and trackpad, awesome
    3) The reasons for BSOD, is not completely because of build, but because of WIN 64 bit compatibility issues and i7 core compatibility
    4) Bulky - it's expected man!!! it's a gaming laptop + 2 HDD, although the weight could have been reduced .. but I am happy.
    5) Heating: I know it's hot, but the back panel still feels cold enough to hold and the build of the laptop is good and I have 3 yeas of warranty which should cover any problems, if they do occur.
    6) Battery: obviously it's going to be low, but I can get 1:25 min for word processing and other basic stuff for which I require it to be disconnected out of the socket. Worst case I will buy another battery. Honestly speaking I have not had good experiences when it comes to battery life on a 15.4 " laptops.. HP, DELL,!!

The only thing I am a bit disappointed is sound. It's good for me for the games, because of the way the games are designed. But when it comes to videos , I definitely need a good headset or complete silence.

Overall, it's been 3 weeks and I am happy that I can now play games like Crysis, Left 4 dead, gta4, etc which initially I was not able to play since I did not want to buy a desktop due to some reasons and I did not want to spend 3000$ on a gaming laptop. But this deal is awesome for the price. If I can get through 3 years on this laptop , I would be satisfied with the deal and more is bonus. Of course I need to maintain the laptop for that. ANd please don't expect me to benchmark systems, I don't have time for that, writing this much only is taking a toll on me I am writing it from a common man's perspective. If any big problem comes up, trust me, I am going to spread it like a virus.

I encourage everyone to write reviews on product if you like it or not and don't just ignore it, this will help only you in the end. Spread the word!!!

Ordered from Amazon...free shipping, no tax...love it!

The BSOD complaints have given me pause about my purchase, but in the big picture, I'm trying to remember that squeaky wheels tend to be loudest. Still, I hope I don't end up "squeaking" myself :)

Question for all. I've been reading a bit on OS raid 0. Just wondering if anyone has tried this setup? What are your thoughts on it? Will it speed up my system, or just work everything else that much harder?

Hope thats not to basic of a question.

One of the links I was reading was http://www.overclockers.com/setting-up-os-raid-with-windows-7-ultimate/

not quite true. It does not support HARDWARE raid, because it has no raid controller. it should still support a software raid.
