Hey guys, I just had a major problem come up.

Essentially, my computer doesn't realize it when I unplug my headphones; it's been like this for almost a week. As a result, I don't get any sound from the internal speakers when I unplug them.

I know this is true because I check system sounds and the computer still outputs. When I plug things into the jack, the Realtek manager doesn't pop that notification of plugging things in or taking things out. It does this for the other jacks however.

Is there any way I can fix this without having to ask for a repair? I've tried plugging and unplugging my headphones in several times, and I've yet to get an progress.

    Thanks.

I've had my refurbished G51vx for 3 months and it has been going strong thus far. I've only done a little bit of overclocking, but I have noticed how fast this beast is!

You can't put an ix into it. Best you can go for is either a X9100 or T9900. I recommend the T9900 unless the price difference is ridiculous.

Hi there I'm just wondering what's is the Turbo Mode for? What's the difference of Turbo to Extreme Turbo?

These two modes overclock the processor. I forget how much, but leaving them on seems safe to me. I've had no problems with it, and it does help performance.

Not bad, not bad. Run that at the standard 1280x1024 and then we can get cooking.

Thanks! But I'm leaving them off. My processor is undervolted to 1.113v and still it gives 60-70 C Temp while under load. It's very hot here in our country XD

Hi there.... I had the same problem yesterday and I fixed it with a needle :D
    Here's how to do it:
First find yourself a flashlight and a needle. Then look through the hole where you put your headphones using the flashlight. You'll see two metal plates from the left and the right side of the hole. They are used to connect to your 3.5mm jack. In my case the left one was agglutinate to the round side of the hole. I fix the problem when I put it away from the side of the hole using the needle. This metal plate makes contact to other one when you connect any 3.5mm jack device and tells the device not to use the build in speakers.
If the problem is the same as mine was, you should disconnect those plates.
Try that but turn off your notebook and remove the batt. before doing it. I did that 4-5 times and then it worked.

Sorry for my bad English.... I havn't wrote in a while.

That does explain why inserting 3.5s into the jack for the headphones is easier than the other jacks; because those plates aren't sticking out and getting in the way like they're supposed to!

As for me, both sides are stuck to the walls; I'll play with it a bit.

Striker, bump up your clocks to the 600 range and I bet you could easily destroy my current best. That CPU is a killer.

Although with my cooling mods I could overvolt and overclock higher, but I've given up the benchmark game for a while haha.

Make sure to power down your computer and remove the battery first, heh. Sticking a metal object into an output port on a computer could be hazardous to your health.

Well Friday I undervolted my GPU, Opened up my laptop up to clean it out, and replaced my thermal paste to MX-3.
Before the whole thing, I was hitting 100C within crysis and over the past 2 days Ive been playing Crysis and only maxed out at 87. Extremely happy about that :D

One thing though, What are the best video drivers to be using? At the moment I have 197.25

Sad to say but G51vx-rx05 wouldnt be compatible to Quads, The best CPU you can get for now is the T9900

Hi guys! I've been trolling about the forums for a few days now trying to find a solution to my problem with the G51. I installed and started playing Empire: Total War a few weeks ago and ever since then all of my video is stuttering and I can't play any type of game with a framerate higher than 5 or 6 fps. Has anyone else run into this? Do you think I fried something in my computer?

97c while running furmark xtreme mode is not unheard of, i would leave it running at the default resolution and only need to run it for 15 min max

one thing you can do is replace the thermal paste of the GPU with a high performance thermal paste like MX-3 , IC Diamond 7, or Arctic Silver 5, I don't believe this will void your warranty, just be sure to do it properly and run furmark again

you can also get a laptop cooler if you want, or put your laptop on a flat surface and raise the back of it a bit so that cooler air can get sucked into the vents

my g51vx was getting 102 in furmark so i took it back to the shop, they said all they did was put a Cooler Master thermal paste they had laying around and now furmark temps don't go higher than 90

p.s. copper mod will not void your warranty either as you can take them off, there's a very long thread with info on this

Umm when i cleaned out my laptop i thought i saw a void warrenty sticker on top of one of the screws on the gpu so i dont think i wana mess with that. On that note, i pushed down on the warrenty sicker becuase it looked like it was coming off.... and its now theres like cracks in it.. .does that void warrenty lol?

    Hello!

I have the G51VX-RX05 BestBuy version. Has anyone tried updating the BIOS?

I tried with EasyFlash (the BIOS utility) but it says the file is not valid; the file has 1024KB, not 512KB as I have seen that it should have in some guides, so I am afraid to try flashing with the WinFlash utility and I don't like other options. Also, the BIOS update history is nowhere to be found, they only say that the second update fixes some numlock issues in BIOS, whatever. Another matter that intrigues me is that the first update file was not shown in the navigator in EasyFlash, it also has 1024KB.

Does anyone know anything about this?

    Thank you in advance.

I recently had to reformat my Asus laptop. It's a G51VX-X3A. It has Windows 7 Home Premium. I had a recovery DVD which I used. I went through the reformat, and found I had lost the support disc with all the drivers. I panicked, called Asus, they were useless. I used my phone to give my laptop internet access and was able to get the Wifi driver off Windows update.

I installed from the Asus site:

    VGA
    4 ATK drivers
    Chipset
    Camera
    LAN
    Wireless Console Utility

Windows update installed the Wifi driver, picture card, infrared receiver.

Everything seems fine, except in Device manager, I have two yellow exclamation marks named "Base System Device"

One is on PCI Bus 7, device 1, function 2
The other is PCI Bus 7, device 1, function 3

How should I go about finding out what these devices are? Everything has drivers that I think should. I just had a random fatal error in Windows which makes me think it's attributed to those drivers.

Did anyone have a G51 and could look to see if they could identify devices in device manager with this info?

    First device,

    Location:
    PCI bus 7, device 1, function 3

    Hardware Ids:
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_19A71043&REV_12
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_19A71043
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_088000
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_0880

    Second device:

    Location:
    PCI bus 7, device 1, function 2

    Hardware Ids:
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_19A71043&REV_12
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_19A71043
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_088000
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_0880

    Help would be appreciated. :)

    @raz1337 Hey, I have a G51-VX.

PCI bus 7, device 1 is the card reader at me. So, under "SD host adapters" I have the SD host controller (which is function 0, maybe you cand find it too) and under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" I have Ricoh Memory Stick Controller (probably the Sony card types), Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller and Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller (function 2, 3 and 4).

You could look up the Ricoh driver on ASUS' site, since you said you let Windows install the card reader driver. Or, if it doesn't give you any problems, you could let it that way.

Has anyone experienced the laptop not turning on with the battery even if it is reading it as charged, but works with the adapter? Not sure if it's a battery problem or computer problem. I might buy a new battery to check, but I want to get some opinions first.

I'm kind of reluctant to send it in to ASUS because of how long it will potentially take.

Having read all 44 pages on my E63 mobile over the last couple of days (and posting this reply from same) it seems the TX3 is the better of the TICs...

When I replaced my CPU last week, AS5 was used as it was in the drawer from the desktop upgrades. The GPU got a dose too and the cooling fans, fins, innards got a good blowing out with compressed air too.

    Any thoughts out there as to;
1 Most accurate temp monitors for use with Win 7 HP (64 bit)?
2 Would it be worth changing to TX3 tic?
3 Will it be worthwhile upgrading (and how would it affect dual channel mode) RAM to 1 x 2G + 1 x 4G sodimms?
4 What mainboard revisions will accept a C2Quad, and which model CPUs would they be?
5 Does anyone actually know of a 1600 x 900 resolution screen or what options are actually out there?
6 Lastly, any thoughts on installing the bluetooth module or the Asus mini dongle?

    Regards from down under,
    Dave

Anyone have tips for getting the webcam running on a reformat? It seems to be tougher than I thought. I have the driver installed from asus' website, along with the asus virtualcamera utility. I know that there was another webcam utility that I used for capturing that I can't find on the asus website. Any idea where it is?

I tried using Windows Movie Maker, and it can't detect the camera. :(

Sorry for late reply. This is the same camera (and the same laptop) that I have. I assume that you're using Windows 7 64-bit. This webcam driver works perfectly fine for me:

    Chicony camera driver V061.005.200.310

Also, I'm using this version of VirtualCamera (they've fixed incompatibility with Skype):

    VirtualCamera V1.00.0020

Before installing driver and virtualCamera do this:

    1) Remove/uninstall both driver and virtual camera
    2) Reboot
    3) Install the driver for the webcam
    4) Reboot again
    5) Install VirtualCamera

Thanks! I'll try that later when I get home from work and have the time. VirtualCamera is that suite-type program that came with the G51 and allows you to take pictures/videos/etc, right?

No. VirtualCamera lets you use all sorts of video effects with other program, i.e. if you're video-chatting through Skype, for example, you can make a fake/virtual glasses, hats, and other things show up on your face. When you move around, those props follow you around in the video. It is very similar to video effects implemented by Logitech for most of their cameras. It's pretty cool and Asus fixed incompatibility with Skype. BTW, this program is not required in order to use the webcam with other applications.

Also, there is another program which allows you to takes pics/vids/etc is called "LiveFrame 3". You can get it from here:

    LiveFrame 3

there's only one version of the LiveFrame 3.

Has anyone replaced the optical drive on a G51 that could lend me some advice? I personally haven't bought anything blu-ray yet, but with the constant buzz over it, I feel I should be looking into it soon. I didn't want to get a blu-ray player because I like the all-in-one aspect of a laptop. So, I found this Sony Blu-Ray writer on Amazon for $210

    Amazon.com: Sony BD-5730S 6x BD 12.7mm Tray SATA Blu-ray Writer: Electronics

Granted I haven't bought it yet, but are there things I should be concerned about when buying optical drives for a laptop, specifically the G51? Are there possible dimension issues? Off the top of my head, I can't remember seeing a way into the optical drive area, even when I've taken the underside cover off. Were there guides?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey guys. First time poster and owner of the G51VX-RX05 for about three weeks now. I tried to find the answer, but haven't really found it specifically.

I'm having major heat issues with my gpu. Dusting it out thankfully brought my idle temps from the high 90s to the high 80s. Better but not acceptable in my eyes. I already have some thermal grease ordered to repaste it, but want to get a laptop cooler as well. The Zalman NC1000/2000 looks like a nice cooler, but I'm worried that it's design would not cool the problem area (you know, the gpu/cpu) effectively since the vents are lower on the machine.

Does anyone have the Zalman cooler with the G51, and did they have good results with it? If not, what would be a more appropriate solution? SC2 is all I've played so far, but even during that it gets up to 99 C, as high as 104 after rendering the more gpu intensive cut scenes.

Thanks, and my apologies if this answer is already out there somewhere.

I have a review on the Zalman for the G50 link in sig chassis is the same the gpu is hotter in the 51.

If 80's is a problem for you then gaming isnt gonna be something for u either lol. Sins of a solar empire runs cool maxed out on the G50 but say GRiD, Crysis 90's all day long.

The 1000 is too small and the new 3000 is better all around more like the Cryo. My review on the 2000 highlights vent spots and measurements.

Has anyone here had problems with the headphones working on a G51 but not the speakers? Mine stopped working all of a sudden a few weeks ago and I can't peg the cause. The explosion sound on the speakers plays when the laptop boots, so the speakers work. I've switched around different versions of drivers and can't fix it.

People suggested taking a pin and flashlight and trying to fix a stuck connector in the headphone jack, but I can't figure out if there is a problem there or how to fix it. I followed a post in another thread. I'm using a G51VX-X3A.

    Any help?
