That is about the same result that anandtech got last month. It was later blamed on broken drivers and bios. Maybe it is still not fixed?
What date are the drivers you are using?
edit:** does it improve over time? gets faster with every reboot?

10th of march? that is 2 month before santa rosa was even released!
Either Intel doesnt care, or they think it is perfect already, or the problems are too big and they are sitll working on fixing them. -
Maybe that's the reason why Asus did not bother to installed the ITM with their new Santa Rosa platform notebooks. -

I can belive it, there has been word out for awhile now that in a higher spec machien ready boost can actually slow things down.
-
I have 2gb of ram and when I use a 2GB USB stick with Readyboost I do notice an decrease in load time for applications. Ofcourse Readyboost cannot be used to boot faster but since the concept is the same I dont know.
The 2GB USB stick even speeds up my desktop with 2gb of ram and a 250GB 7200rpm Samsung disk.
but this is off topic....
I got 2 more questions:
1. Is the ITM detected as a flash harddisk? Does it show up in the explorer?
2. Any differance in battery life? (this might be hard to test) -
-
Cool, I ordered 4GB today for my G1s. You guys want me to run Vista x64 or XP x64 to report my gaming experience?
-
Vista x64 is better I think. Drivers are not perfect but better. -
Here is how it show in Device Manger:
2: I don't have battery to test, it's plugged in. -

Vista Ultimate x64 has been nice to me far, like I said before only issue at all so far is BF2142 crashing, wich is totally the games fault not vista. I think a memory leak or somthing like that.
I also really need a new sound card, im waiting for the azuntech xfi prelude to replace the x-fi extreme music I broke.
I noticed my performance in vista to be lower, but last time I played was on xp with my xfi doing the sound rendering, now im on vista with software redering and onboard. So thats two factors at once and thus I cant say 100% its vista. -

Quite a bit OT, but do the F3J and F3S share the same battery? I've a 9 cell battery from my F3Jp, and was hoping it would work with this one, as an additional battery :|

Actually any games using certain effects crash in x64, it is on microsoft's KIL (not published, yet, but reported), and thus it is windows' fault.

hii.what is the cheapest price for asus G1-S?

thanks.......

ok i just read the entire thread, but i still cant see a clear indicator of how well the 8600gt overclocks compared to a 7900gs.
What are the stock clocks and the overclocked ones?
What about 3dmark 06 1200x800,1280x1024 and 05 1024x768?
An overclocked gs scores around
9xxx points on 3dmark 05 1024x768
and
55xx points on 3dmark06 at 1280x800
50xx points on 3dmark06 at 1280x1024
How much scores the overclcoked 8600m gt on those settings? -
Seeing how weak the GS is compared to the GT I hope the 8700xx will be some what more powerful then the GT.
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
It is about twice as powerful by early estimates.
-
The 8600M GT has overclocked very well in some cases. Also, I've read that the 8700M GT is just a faster clocked 8600M GT, which would lead me to think an 8600M GT oc'd could potentially do near as good as an 8700M GT if that is true.
-
Unless there is some sort of trickery to cripple the 8600GT on purpose, so people can't use OC it as good as a 8700GT.
IMO, if there is good cooling available, the 8600GT would catch up to the 8700GT. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
I imagine the C90 would probably be able to crank up its 8600 to 8700 speeds with its massive cooling system.
Otherwise the overclockability potential is probably there as long as the extra heat wont be a problem.
One could try to apply some AS5 to the GPU core. -
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
The 8700M uses 13 more watts and has what is called something like "dual level" stream processors. So there are some significant physical differences that
A) allow it to be clocked that high and
B) allow it to perform better at those clock speeds than the 8600M GT would. -
is the 8600m GT 256 in the G1S better or worse then the 8600m GT 512 in the C90S? which one is better?
-
and if I were to buy the C90S with a x64 OS then can i add more ram to make it 4 gigs? or can it only handle 3 gigs?
-
-
Those screen caps are fishy as hell. On the desktop, the difference between 256MB dedicated and 512MB dedicated with a 7950GT in FEAR is ~10%. Taking into consideration the fact that the 8600M GT/GS is less capable of pushing that much texture to fill the increase in allocated memory to TurboCache the difference should be even smaller.
-
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
If someone else wishes to do the same tests and let us know, please do.
EDIT: Also, the notebooks get the 10 percent boost for having extra RAM, PLUS there is a substantial boost from the Turbocaching ability. I think it is pretty feasible. -

Repeating my question here- I don't wan't to make a whole new thread about this.....
Do the F3J And the F3S series use the same battery pack? I have a 9 cell for the F3Jp, so I'm curious... -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
Yes, they are the same physical model, different insides. Call Asus though, to be sure.
-
Everyone's saying TurboCache does a lot for performance. Any proof? All I see is a couple screen shots, which may or may not be affected by a whole slew of other variables. As it stands, FEAR does not see much of a benefit going from even 256MB of dedicated frame buffer to 512MB on a 7950GT (which is much more capable of pushing the amount of pixels required for the large amount of textures than a 8600M). Unless the idea here is that TurboCache is more beneficial than dedicated memory (in which case both nVidia and ATI are going down the wrong path for their flagship cards), there is something else affecting the frame rates.
Additionally, there should be minimal performance benefit of moving from 2GB to 3GB of RAM, discounting any TurboCache improvement. Here's a performance test showing some improvement going from 512MB to 1GB, but none going from 1GB to 2GB. From 2GB to 3GB should be the same.

I would be much more convinced by a fixed benchmark (such as a timedemo of some sort). It is quite possible there could be a driver issue depressing scores with certain TurboCache configurations or texture rendering issues (missing textures, etc). -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
I was saying that, knowing what I know Turbocaching does, it would make sense with the extra GB of overhead to work with. Also, given some evidence from another thread, I am willing to assert that Turbocaching uses one DIMM at a time, so if it uses the smallest one (which it could very well have been programmed to do), then having 1GB for Turbo Caching and 2GB for the rest of the system would be a very optimal situation. In a 4GB situation, a 32bit system discounts one of the two DIMMS causing the Turbocache controller to think it isn't there (it wouldn't be getting any signal!), therefore effectively making it seem as though the computer only had 2Gb.

Ah!.. You too will be getting the F3Sv before me.. SO I could look forward to the voltage and amperage ratings for the battery . I hate waiting. My source is probably delayed a couple of weeks- now I'd be getting it Mid-July. I hope it's earlier...

Sess - I will be getting the F3SV before you too
-

specs? and from where?
-
A relative getting it from US. will mostly have it by 25th.
F3SV - A1 with 1GB RAM. will add 1 more if i find it inadequate for things I use -
sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
heh. I was supposed to get it on 25th too... f3sv-b1, 3 gigs ram, 1 gig robson. Ordered from gentech- there's still a small chance of getting it then..... You'll be reviewing it too, i hope...
-
Seems too risky to me. -
I think mine was ordered from Gentech too. Thats the link I gave him. One of the top 5 results when searching for Asus F3SV.
Right now I have 512 RAM with XP and most things I want run smooth in it. So wasnt sure whether to get 2 GB. Getting it with 1 and if its not enough (havent used Vista yet), will get another Gb RAM.
I am not an expert. And I dont play the latest games (Still playing Blood 2, Captain Claw, Carmageddon and Soldier of Fortune). But I guess thats because My present system wont allow any new games. Might change with the F3SV though. Not sure if my review will be helpful to any but will sure rate it on my needs so that it might be help those with similar requirements.
3GB ram???????? -
The 8600M GT's on board memory bandwidth is 22.4GB/s. Now the TC part..see the graph, the system components will occupy a considerable amount of the theoretically 10.6GB/s system memory bandwidth all the time but then the real bottle neck is at the 16x PCI-Express Lane, 4GB/s bi-direction and you will need to share it will the card itself too other than doing TC. So TC's real bandwidth is something less than 4GB/s.
I think TC can help but it's not a day and night difference provided that its bandwidth is severely limited.
(the graph is borrowed from thg with system memory speed/bandwidth updated)

I found this awesome website that i cusomised a laptop on which i think is a bargain (more pwerful than g1s but £200/$400 cheaper). It has a 256mb 8600m gt, but is that not as good as the 512mb version and would i be able to play crysis on it?
