Awesome, thanks.
Uh... I'm not sure how recovery discs will help me seeing as how none of the laptops in this range have optical drives. Also last time I tried to obtain recovery media from Asus, they told me they don't provide it for Windows 8. I went around in circles between Asus and Microsoft customer support for literally hours and nobody seemed to be able to give me a way to get hold of the installation media.
At the time I was only asking because I wanted to make sure I had access to installation media if I ever needed to replace the hard drive; eventually I just gave up. But now I do need to replace the hard drive, and really do need the installation media... so I was wondering if anyone else has had any success with this.
Edit: I've just been on the phone with Asus and they say they cannot provide me with installation media. They say the only way I can get Windows re-installed is to send my laptop to them (at a cost of £60 for shipping). Furthermore they say they will NOT install Windows onto a hard drive that they have not provided - that is, they will NOT install Windows on a hard drive I have installed myself.
Called Microsoft, and they said that as I purchased the OEM licence through Asus, only Asus can provide me with installation media.

Does anyone else have problems with sound over HDMI? When I connect HDMI to a TV, the sound still comes out of the laptop, but not the TV.
Thanks. -

Make sure HDMI is set as default.
If you still have trouble, then post the screenshot of playback devices for us to see, thanks. -
Just picked up one of these. So far I like it but there's one thing that's odd to me. Heavy taps on either the front or back of the lid result in the screen flashing. I'm guessing this is the backlight shining through the LCD? I've only experienced this once before and it was also a Sharp screen and was due to poor build quality. I'm willing to accept it on this model since the lid is glass, I'm just wondering if it's just me or are others experiencing this too. Can someone please try it and let me know?

Has anyone had to replace a keyboard on one of these yet? I can't find one anywhere..... The chiclets have little tiny plastic arm connectors that apparently are not conducive to heavy use. I've got two of them now that will pop off if I hit the corner of their respective key.

Looks like it is part of the top plastics rather than removable.

I've got a hardware question: are the SSDs in the UX301LA connected directly to the motherboard, or on a separate SSD board that then connects to the motherboard?

Is anyone having problems with the mini Hdmi port?
I can't project image in the external monitor and in the tv. It's not the mini Hdmi cable, cause I brought a new one and also I had already installed the version 2.09 of the BIOS driver, which one was supposed to fix the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix the reproducing problem of the mini HDMI port? -

It was simple, just had to uninstall the original video driver from Asus and instal the generic version ofered by Intel, version "win64_154010.4300.exe".
It seems that Asus is not doing a fine job keeping their drives updated at the web site. -

Since, this hdmi issue might be something bothering many owners, I thought it was worthy to register here how to solve it, because it's not easy to work with 2560 x 1440 with softwares designed to work with full hd at most. -
I found the UX301LA in Germany for a really cheap Price but i'am not care about the Horsepower of the Intel Iris 5100.
I wonder, how good it will perform in World of Warcraft at 768p and i hope, some of you guys have tested this before.
Sorry for my bad English, ist not my native Language.

Hey guys, I'm fighting with Asus support for some time now and today worst case happened - no boot to windows , just bios.
After i bought the UX301LA by second hand i updated the bios over Easy Flash. I was wondering why the Bios v. 211 stated (UX301LAA) and not LA but i flashed sucessful and everything was fine.
Bios downloaded from here: http://www.asus.com/support/Download/3/574/0/1/CPUDRIVER_Ix-4xxxxU/45/
Then my problems with not waking up from suspend and standby mode and sometimes not shuting down completely havent gone so i contacted the Asus Support because ive read a Bios Downgrade to 209 would solve these issues.
So Asus support sugessted to Downgrade via WinFlash tool with /force command. I tried but the tool said wrong ROM Version or so.
After that and some mails with asus they said i try to flash the Wrong Bios and that my model is UX301LAA and not UX301LA! What the?! You wont find any model named UX301LAA on the Asus page but of course Bios Version 211 where UX301LAA is mentioned in brackets. VERY CONFUSING!
So the Asus support posted me a link with an actual Winflash Tool and a BIOS Version 209 for UX301LAA:
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/UX301LA/UX301LAAAS209.zip (LAA Bios 209)
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps_for_Win10/Winflash/Winflash_Win10_64_VER310.zip (Winflash 3.1.0)
So i trusted the support and flashed this version - boom. No Booting to Windows after that! Just Bios Pops up.
Now i was on 209 for a UX301LAA model which Asus Phone Support (Austria) even dont knows!!!
So they suggested to flash the official Version from the Website 210 (UX301LA) - not possible! Easy Flash wont accept that version.
AFter All, i flashed the latest Version available on the Website 211 for the UX301LAA but also that didnt solved my problem - still stuck to Bios - no Windows booting
If anyone could help me or knows anything, PLEASE help!
....... in the meantime waiting for a call from Asus people who hopefully have some knowledge about these cause the rumainian or poland hotline people have not! -
I am not an expert, but I think you are too focused with downgrading the BIOS. So, did you try already to use Ubuntu on it? even from a pendrive with a live ROM? If Ubuntu does work on your UX301, may be your problem is that somehow the BIOS is not booting the Windows sistem from your drive. If so, the approach to solve the problem could be simpler, just needing to re-install Windows or try to make the recovery of it.
Also, to make sure your UX301 is the same of mine, could you please say its specifications? -
So my UX301LAA is running again ( Asus Support from Germany told me that the UX301LAA is the model with 2 SSD Drives in Raid0). So now i know why theres a UX301LA and LAA.
So my Model has the i7 4xxx CPU and 2SSDs in Raid0...
The Standby Problem (Display stays Black) is still presist and i hate it! Any suggestions appreciated! -
I'm new to this forum, and searching for help also, but I already have solved your problem once by disabling Intel(R) Managment Engine Interface in the device manager.
My ux301la-de022h won't go to sleep, power button was still on, I disabled it and all went smooth since.
Recently I made the mistake to update my drivers and now my computer when resume from sleep, loses all my previously opened apps.
Maybe if this solves your problem this will solve mine when you tell me which version of drivers you have installed
Tell me. -
Will let you know the result as soon as possible.

Well one of my SSDs failed after 2.5 years. Pretty disappointing performance from Sandisk. Not sure if this is representative or I was just unlucky. I have been delighted with my machine up to this point. I'm going to have to fix it or wait for the new macbook pro.
Having been quoted 650 GBP for repair by Asus (2*256), I'm now looking for replacement M.2 2260 SSDs but finding them a little thin on the ground.
Crucial have told me that their M.2 2260 SSDs aren't compatible. All I can find that looks to be compatible is the Transcend product http://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-645 which was first mentioned on page #7 of this thread in July 2014. The 250gb version TS256GMTS600 is available on amazon.co.uk.
I was wondering whether anyone has had success with one of these Transcend SSDs? Is anyone aware of suitable alternatives? -
disabled it and tried it immediately. Had to reset as always after sent to sleep with FN+F1 in Power Mode.
After that "Hard" Reboot, i tried again in Battery Mode and it worked! Have to try around a bit but thats all what i can say for now....
Thanks for the Tipp! Hopefully everything will work fine from now on.... we'll see -
Hm ... well ... or if Asus used a non-standard M.2 pin configuration. But then no other drive would work, apart from the proprietary original. -
The response from Crucial certainly confused me:
"Thank you for your email. I am very sorry but neither of our M2 SSD's are compatible with this Asus Netbook.
M2 SSD's come in two types of form. The first is SATA and this is what our drives are. The second is PCIE and unfortunately our SATA drives are not compatible with a PCIE only slot.
Please contact Asus at this stage for further upgrade help."
In response to my question about whether either their CT250MX200SSD6 or CT500MX200SSD6 product was compatible with an UX301LA. -
Think they're thinking of the proprietary-ness of the previous UX31 models:
http://www.srqcomputerservices.com/asus-ux31e-ssd-problems/
But these, too, were SATA, just an evil implementation of that (by swapping pins). Know I know why these M.2 adapters are so popular; 2,245 listings . So it's an easy fix and quite bit cheaper than $922 ( !!!); $2.50 for the adapter and 2x $100 for the MX200.
To check whether this still applies to the UX301LA you could look up the exact model ssd it's using now. A spec. sheet or finding the same ssd running on another, non-Asus system would suffice.
It is possible the LA really does use PCI-e (check with CDI). If so; there's two Samsungs still in production that would fit, but these are 2280, so 80mm long, and that may not fit without some modding. -
Ah. That would make sense if they were confusing it with the UX31.
Searches for Sandisk "SD6SP1M-256G" suggest it has also been used in Dell laptops so won't be specific to the UX301LA. I am becoming happier that the Transcend models will work nicely. It would be great to hear from someone who had them working.
Thanks for all the advice & pointers. -
Can you give me the list of drivers & version you're using?

Is your operating system is windows 10 ?
I have the same driver for HD Webcam and it works in skype.
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) 10.0.10586.0, works fine for me.

Will try also that audio driver soon!
I will post the driver list (regarding your link) at the weekend, stressful days at work and university for me at the moment

All the listed drivers are the same version as mine, except for wifi, I'll try yours, and wait for the full list.
I also have some charging problems, charger blinking (orange, green), and sometimes it stays orange(charging), battery says charging too, but percentage doesn't move for hours.
Thanks -

by the way: How Long do your battery last? Mine lasts about 2 Hours max.3 at normal usage (Surfing, Writing etc...) with lowest brightness.
Not very satified with that time... -
I'll send him back to asus.
My battery used to last longer than this, I remember playing SUPERHOT for about an hour waiting for a plane, and still have battery left.
I have not stats about my battery life. -
Hi folks, I am trying to locate a motherboard for a UX301LA. Can't locate one on ebay and I've tried a few of the sites in a google search result for the term. Any ideas?
Thanks. -
So I've been having an issue with my Asus UX301 lately, more precisely with the screen.
Basically, it has been having trouble displaying a good amount of dark shades, as in weird flickering lines form on them when those shades are on screen. There's no issue with pure black, it's just for those colors a tiny bit lighter than pure black. I took pictures of some backgrounds when it's at its worst, you'll find those linked at the end of this post, in case I wasn't clear. I found a video on YouTube explaining that to fix display issues on Asus laptops you had to open the computer and fiddle with the cable that goes through the hinge, so I did that and it didn't fix anything.
I came to ask if that's something anyone around here has been experiencing with their displays, or if that's common deterioration for IGZO panels to have? Or if it sounds like a cable issue, is that fixable, and how? While I'm at it, I've also observed inconsitency in the displays backlight for a while, as in there will be brightness shifts at an hardware level every so often.
Here are the pictures I took (fwi it's not a bug with the image processing, those really look like that on screen.): https://dl2.pushbulletusercontent.com/dY1nqFFgAy5RKGXvR4BU5TbUpDTdEkkd/IMG_20161006_185631.jpg

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers. -
It does look very much like a partially defective cable. One of its ~30 wires may have broken, that happens mostly near the hinges, where it is forced into sharp bends. A new cable should fix it.
You can get it from Zandparts. They have tons and tons of parts for all sorts of brands, but most of it is not in direct stock, so expect 3-4 weeks before receiving the item. There's two lcd cables for this model; 14005-01030000 and 14005-01030700. Afaik, there was only the WQHD panel that came with the UX301LA, so the specific cable version wouldn't matter then (they can be revisions). However, to rule out any difference you can verify by checking the label on the current cable.
