Yes, I tried it already. Does not help. Additionally I am not able to use the touchpad for scrolling - do I need a special driver for that? Or software? If yes, which one?

Which version of Windows are you running?
Have you installed the Asus smart gesture softeware?
What did you set your desktop resolution to?
Are you running the latest Nvidia drivers?

I would download the latest version of the smart gesture software. That might fix the issue with your touchpad.

For the blurry text issue, try restoring all Nvidia settings to default. Are text in other programs also blurry?

Thus far, I love the laptop. Surprisingly, I can actually tell the difference quite well between my MBP and this, though. Apart from the system's difficulty in displaying bright yellow, I think I actually prefer this screen. However, if I keep my MBP, I will use that for graphic design, as I want to be certain how the yellow appears to others.

Make sure you update to the latest BIOS if you don't have it already. That should reduce the chance of your display flickering. You can still use the Asus for graphic design if you have a monitor, just output to the monitor through DP or HDMI.

The driver for the touchpad sometimes take some time to install automatic, make sure you have the asus smart gesture enabled otherwise remove and reinstall - The Elan drivers sometimes apply instead. remember to reapply the ATK package...

For the blurry text - this is a known problem in Win 8, 8.1 an 10, - set your text dpi settings manually to about 200% or 250%. just search for "text dpi" or "make text text" (dependant on language :)) in windows search. The GPU has nothing to do with or anything else related to the screen for that matter, that's the iGPU :D

So how "bad" do you find the yellow issue - I mostly notice it in word when highlighting text, but don't really notice it besides when yellow colors are isolated...

    Hi guys.

    I'm about to get a 15,6" zenbook.
The two possibility are the NX500 and the UX501. Which one could be the better choice?
(The NX500 is still more expensive than the new UX501, why?)
I'm very curious about your opinion. thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I am considering the UX501JW-UB71T Signature Edition.
    has anyone tried it out?
if so (and even if not) - does the latest batch notebooks have the screen flickering issue? (bios or not...)

    Thanks!

BIOS 209 addressed the screen flickering issue. I would assume newer batches would have the latest BIOS installed, if not, you can always flash it yourself. Signature edition is the same hardware wise, just have less vendor software installed.

I wrote it before, after upgrade to Windows 10, the Face ID stopped working. I don't understand faq
    http://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1013006/
Asus says: "Windows 10 does not support FaceID" .. it can not be true, only some modifications should be necessary. Camera remain the same , and worked fine ;). There was no RealSense 3D Camera before and it was working fine. No especial camera is needed. It could be working now to.

I tried and am using another software KeyLemon. It is working :)

Assuming you are buying in the US, the NX500 comes with a FHD display with quantum dot technology and the UX501 comes with a 4K display. You will get better color accuracy with the NX500, but a much lower resolution. This is the major difference.
NX500 comes with a PCIe x2 SSD, Nvidia 850m while UX501 comes with a PCIe x4 SSD, Nvidia 960m. Performance wise, you probably won't notice much of a difference.

If you are not doing color sensitive work or has an external monitor for color sensitive work, then UX501 would be the better choice at its current price.

That is the only place the yellow issue really stands out for me as well. Mustard highlights just doesn't have the same impact as fluorescent yellow highlights.

This is the fastest computer I have ever owned. It starts so fast. My MacBook Pro doesn't start as fast as it used to, for some reason. I tested the yellows. They are indeed off. When I do graphics, I will probably use my MacBook Pro since I don't expect to sell it.

I have yet to use it that way, but as I said, when I design graphics that include bright yellow, I will head to the MBP or Surface.

After about a month of usage - I was very happy with the notebook and Windows 10 on it. Until today, when I needed to do some video work on my laptop. I plugged my big monitor into the laptop via hdmi and when inserting the hdmi cable to the laptop - sparkles came out and the hdmi port on my laptop looked a bit burnt and stopped working... I have plugged this particular monitor to many devices via hdmi and have never had issues... and now I have a brand new laptop with a dead hdmi.

Anyways, I contacted ASUS and will be sending the laptop to them tomorrow. And I really do hope that they'll fix it under warranty otherwise this laptop will be a hell of a joke...

Will let you know if there's any progress on the case.

The Toshiba P50t has the same panel as the Asus NX500 (the predecessor of the NX501). But the NX500 has the 2nd iteration of the panel. The panel everyone loves.

    Toshiba P50t (4K): Sharp LQ156D1JX01
    Asus NX500 (4K): Sharp LQ156D1JX02

It was mentioned here on the forum:
And confirmed months later by this review of the Toshiba P50t:

and this review of the Asus NX500:

I had the Toshiba P50t-B-10T on loan from the shop for 3 days (their showroom model). And without ever having seen the NX500's screen, I can tell you that the screen of the P50t is amazing to look at, colour accurate, and easy to calibrate even further with an i1 display pro. You can also easily load different colour profiles.
I decided not to buy it though because of the AMD GPU. I multi-boot between Linux and Windows and I've had my fair share of issues with "not supported anymore by the proprietary AMD drivers" in the past.

But the salesman in the shop pointed out to me that there are apparently newer models of the P50t: P50t-B-11D (4K/UHD) and also P50t-B-11M (FHD). In Europe anyway.

When I bought my U501 (FHD Model 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD from Germany) it arrived with a small scratch on the hinge of the display. I returned it immediately and got a replacement model. Unfortunately it has the same scratch. I guess it is a production problem? http://abload.de/img/ux501scratchh7put.jpg

The lights in my ceiling are out. I thought about that.

Anyway, my main conclusions are that the MBP has a brighter screen, but I still prefer the Asus screen. I looked at a photo of a red flower, and the Asus did a better job at capturing the variations in the color of the flower's petals. On the Apple screen, it was harder to see the progression in coloring throughout the petals.

    Hello Guys!

I have a Problem with my new Samsung SM951 MZHPV256HDGL - 00000. Its not detected by the BIOS (EFI) or direct in Windows or Linux on the Intel HM87 mainboard. I know, that on this mainboard the harddisk should be operational. Do you think this is a software based problem? What can I do to fix it? What options in the BIOS are recommended to get things working?

    Thanks in advance!

Your mainboard's m.2 slot may not support PCIe x4 or you need a BIOS update. You could also have purchased the wrong version of the SM951. SM951 is available both in AHCI and NVMe versions.

Which version of the ux501jw? 4k display with only a SSD or FHD display with SSD + HDD? If you have the version with SSD + HDD, then it does not support PCIe x4 SSD, only SATA SSD.

Does anyone else find that the touchpad does not recognize certain gestures fluidly? I have to try like four times to get Action Center to appear. The three-finger swipes are very unreliable, too. Oddly enough, the touchpad on my Surface Pro 3 handles gestures far, far better.

Also, Asus is selling people a dream about the audio in this computer. Their marketing suggests they had an in-house group of enginees and Bang & Olufsen Technology labor intensively to come up with ... the same sound you get from a budget notebook.

Yea i noticed that with my Surface pro 3 as well, and did some research. The trackpad on the surface pro 3 uses a precision trackpad which is by microsoft, and fully supported in windows.

Similar to how OS-X/apple handle their gestures. Not sure why Asus didnt use a precision trackpad, since both Dell and Acer use them now. Although I have found the asus trackpad to be pretty good, I would agree that my surface pro 3 has a smoother trackpad as well.

Your version of UX501 does not support m.2 PCIe, only m.2 SATA. As I mentioned before, any model that comes with a SSD and HDD does not support PCIe SSD.

I'm still on Windows 8.1 and the gestures seems to work properly for me. If you are trying an edge gesture, make sure you start the swipe from off the touchpad. Personally, I've installed Start8 and just disabled most gestures except for 2 fingers scroll and 2 fingers tap for context menu.

I tried out the audio on an HP Envy 17 since HP uses the same company, but somehow that laptop's audio is markedly superior. I read this site's review of the UX501 and noticed the reviewer also expressed some disappointment with the touchpad. My left and right three-finger swipes work only once in a blue moon and are quite likely to be mistaken for an attempt to summon Cortana if recognized at all. Some of the gestures actually take more time than doing things the old-fashioned way.

Audio is definitely of lower quality on this model vs earlier Asus models. The speaker placement is pretty bad as well.

I'll try out gestures on my ux51 to see if this is a Windows 10 issue. So far no problems in Windows 8.1.

Both should work. Just make sure the 80mm length is correct.

It may make more sense to replace the 1tb hdd with a ssd instead, unless you need that much storage.

I believe the evo 850 is faster than the transcend and may have a slightly longer warranty. It's best if you read some reviews and decide for yourself.

Hey all. I was wondering if anyone here knows if the ASUS UX501JW-UB71T Signature Edition has the same panel with bad yellows as the previous UX501JW Pro does.

If that is what comes from the Microsoft Store, I can answer affirmatively, but I can also say it's not that bad.

Is this the same hinge design as the 303? (in other words is this hinge going to break?) Thanks!
