Thanks. It looks like someone else on here had some success with reinstalling the wireless drivers. I will try it tonight and see what happens.

Hello MakisupaVT. Thank you for the answer. Today I did a full backup and during the day tried different scenarios to check USB 3.0 functionality.
1. Repair of "original" ASUS Windows 7 - USB 3.0 ok
2. Clean Install of Windows 7 (MSDN Image) + Intel USB 3.0 Driver - USB 3.0 ok
3. Clean Install of Windows 8 (MSDN Image) + Intel Chipset Inf + Asus Drivers (except Software) - USB 3.0 failed. Sympthomes are the same as before - when connected during boot - ok, when discconected or reconnected - failed.
maybe the issue is related to the USB stick (It's Voyage Corsair GT 64) - but it's strange why everything is OK in windows 7. Same issue I have is with cheap USB 3.0 HDD case from funtec. Anyway - I can't use USB 3.0 with UX32VD. :-(
I just found on Corsair forum the very similar thread. Somebody with recent Lenovo Notebook reported the same issue, as I have. According the thread, his solution was a new BIOS from Lenovo. Unfortunately latest BIOS from Asus (212) still has the issue. Just as a hint to anybody of you, if you have same issue as I have. -
I've got a problem with USB 3.0 under Windows8 too, the ports were disabled by the device manager. I had to uninstall the "USB Charger Plus" software to solve this issue. -
ASUS Wireless Radio Control
ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities
I opted out any of the other utilities. I also didn't install the TPM.
I have another cheap USB 3.0 memory stick I ordered from Newegg yesterday for what will cost me a total of $7.. if there's anything that should give me issues, this is probably it. I'll let you know how it goes. -
Am I the only one who wishes they posted some more details about changes and the drivers they post?

I installed the v1.0.35 touchpad driver for Windows 8 that was released on 10/31, but I decided to roll back to v1.0.32.
Reason: In v1.0.32 when swiping right to left to bring the charm bar up, the mouse pointer would snap to the charm bar on the start button. This feature seems to be removed in the 1.0.35 release.
I could not see any other enhancements or changes in the 1.0.35 release. -
Hi everybody !
I've now exactly the same upgrade (ssd 830 & crucial ram) as you Makisupa, except that my boot time is around... 1min 30...
I've also upgraded to windows 8 and did a new fresh install. But i had to install first windows 7 to upgrade, because the windows upgrade is only to upgrade and not to create a new install, and i was not able to activate windows without installing windows7 first.
I have no usb dvd reader so i didn't have the EFI option I used a usb stick with windows files on it.
Did you instal win7 first before your upgrade? What bios do you have? I don't know UEFI but is there something to do in the bios to activate it?
I did five clean install hoping to get your boot time... -
-
Thanks for your answer Cocoman, my SSD appears already in bios in AHCI on the SATA port 0. I'm going to try to re-install one more time (6th time :s ) using your advice. I just need to do a full backup before.
-
Just purchased a ux32vd dh71 from best buy for
$1199. Anyone know the difference between dh71 and db71? And is the maximum I can upgrade the ram only 6 gb. Also what defects should I keep an eye out for in the laptopm? -
Activate Windows 8 Pro Upgrade
Windows 8 users who noticed that the operating system cant be activated after the installation may want to try the following workaround that worked to activate when installing Windows 8 using an upgrade on a clean PC.
1) Open regedit by pressing Windows-q, entering regedit and selecting the result from the list of hits.
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
3) Change MediaBootInstall from 1 to 0
4) Go back to the start screen and enter cmd there.
5) Right-click Command Prompt and select to run it as administrator.
6) Type slmgr /rearm on the command line and hit enter.
7) Reboot Windows now.
8) Run the activation utility afterwards, enter your product key to activate Windows.
You will need to reformat the 32GB iSSD and uninstall Readycache to get fast boot times. -
I reinstalled windows 8 yesterday choosing UEFI USB. I formated the disk and windows installer created 4 partitions for me.
I didn't connected internet and did an activation by phone. It worked.
The boot time is around 30 seconds now. The stuff who takes the more time to load on the boot is the "Antimalware Service Executable" of microsoft security essentials.
I did not install express cache and intel rapid start. I tried in my previous installations intel rapid storage, but it added each time 3 minuts to the boot time...
I suppose the ISSD was pasted with the 500go HDD because now that i have my new SSD, i can not find anymore the ISSD on my disks list. -
What are your ux32vd temps when browsing web? I get around 48-52C when on battery saving and the fan keeps spinning all the time. My previous laptop u36sd was completely silent when browsing web on battery saving and I'm pretty disappointed to ux32vd as it's "noisy" even in light use. I'm running Windows 7 from 32gb internal ssd and no hdd in use.
The second question is about Windows power saving settings which keeps resetting to defaults all the time. For example I change cpu cooling system to "passive" and the next time I check it's automatically changed to "active"
Is there any way I can make my computer completely silent when in light web browsing use? -
Mine is around 42-45°c @ performance mode while browsing.
Though I'm still not sure if the cpu clocks down.....The cpu is always at full speed due to cpu-z since I installed win8.... -
-
well you can hear the fan after some time but not like running in cycles or full speed.
it's just the feeling, that it clocked down before win7, at least cpu-z has shown this.
i'm not sure if I forgot a driver....but I think I installed all important ones. -

Hey guys,
I just purchased one online. I like everything about it, but I'm a bit worries about the 1080p screen. I'm used to 900p on my Envy 14 and 1080p on my old Envy 15.
How well does scaling work?

Hi Karm,
Is it possible that you are using an NTFS formatted USB for Windows 8 installation? The USB must be FAT32 formatted, otherwise it is not recognized as UEFI. -
Hey folks. So I've seen a ton o talk about recovery DVD's. Should be getting my system in hopefully less then a week. (Assuming this new order from Amazon actually goes through this time. *growls*) Anyways. If I create a set of disks and setup a torrent anyone willing to help seed? Understand though that these would not be small torrents. Realistically you would need to leave the torrent open for a month. Enough interest I'm guessing we should make a separate thread on the topic. I don't think doing this would be breaching notebook reviews TOS since the restore disks would only work on Asus hardware. I don't THINK that it would be considered pirated software since you still need to activate after using the disks.

OK riddle me this: Which BIOS is the latest version? BIOS 202 that has a release date of 2012.10.16 or the sequentially newer version BIOS 212 but has the order date of 2012.10.11 I'd like to know because one of the first things to happen when I get this thing is Easy Flashing this sucker. I didn't see another other then a quick question on the 202 in this thread so if its been answered sorry.

The ones who are using win8:
did anybody check if your cpu is clocking dynamically?I mean with win7, it clocked down even while using the performance settings.
At the moment it seems like it is running at full speed all the time.
Concerning the upgrade and boot time: I upgraded mine with a Samsung 830 256gb too and upgraded the win7, overall booting time is like 10-14seconds from powerbutton -> metro -
I just got my UX32vd last week and have been doing some gaming and I thought I would post some results here in case anyone is interested. Overall, I am very impressed with the gaming ability of the UX32vd. Some results:
Torchlight II works great for native 1080p resolution and settings all on high. Solid 45+ FPS on fraps.
Borderlands 2 works pretty well if you turn setting down to medium and drop resolution to 1600x900. 35+ FPS.
Tropico 3 works well at native resolution. Don't remember FPS but it was very playable.
Black Mesa Source Mod works well at native resolution and setting on med/high. 45+ FPS, if you drop resolution down to 1600x900 FPS was around 50+
Mount & Blade w/ Floris Complete mod: This mod is a bit more graphically intensive than the stock game. Settings on Med and resolution to 1600x900 and 40+ FPS
I will post more when I get some more games tested. So far I have been really impressed with Torchlight II and Borderlands 2. They are very playable on this system. 35-45 FPS isn't ideal by any means but when you consider that consoles have trouble pushing Borderlands at 30 fps @ 720p it puts things in perspective. Torchlight II was also a big surprise. It plays great at 1080p at high detail. Highly recommended. -
so if you got an iSSD you have to use 212 bios. -
My usb stick was in FAT32, i think i succeded in UEFI because when i booted, pressing ESC gave the UEFI choice for my usb stick -
Fallout: New Vegas detects at "high settings", but plays at 1600x900, around 60fps.
Skyrim detects at "high settings", plays at full-hd 1920x1080, around 60fps
Diablo 3 - plays at 30-40fps at full HD, can get to 45-60 if you drop down to 1600x900 -
-
Also to answer another forummer's question, you can set the maximum and the minimum processor state in the advanced power setting in the power setting application in control panel. -

You are correct sargantanas. As I was frustratingly repairing the issd issue I used my phone to reply but forgot the name of the driver.

Hello everyone,
I have upgraded my OS to Win8 Pro (64 bit). Now my webcam and my touchpad aren't working anymore. I have already uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them a several times. I have done a clean fresh install of my system as well. Before I made the clean install of the system, the device manager gave me a code 45 (device disconnected) when I clicked on the webcam properties.
What am I supposed to do? Please help!
Kind regards, nin7ouch -
I just upgrade Win 8 with Media Center via online > Refresh my Zenbook > Install all driver Win8 > All devices works fine include iSSD -
So I've recently purchased a UX32VD-DH71, and would like to replace the 500GB HDD with an SSD and reinstall Windows 8 from scratch. Can anyone tell me how I can acquire the Win8 Product Key so that I can reinstall Windows without a problem?
-
* I didn't see the previous post until after I posted mine. I asked the same question.
I have a new UX32VD-DH71, which came preinstalled with Windows 8. I can't find the Windows 8 Product Key anywhere on the laptop or the enclosed paperwork. There is a sticker on the back of the laptop, but it only has Windows 8 printed on it. Did Asus include the Product Key with this model? I'd really like to have it.
I've also been trying to clone my HD to an SSD, but have been unsuccessful in getting it to work in the UX32VD. The SSD is a 500GB Samsung SSD 840. I've tried cloning the HD a number of ways, which appears to work. At least when I compare the two drives in Windows Disk Management, the partitions match. I installed the SSD in the UX32VD and in the BIOS Boot section, it is listed as "Windows boot manager (+ the SSD model name). When I booted, I saw the new Windows logo, but it never booted into Windows. So I put the Windows rescue disk I created from the HD in my USB DVD burner and booted with that. I tried to repair my Windows installation on the SSD, but had no luck.
I don't know what I should try next? If I had the Product Key, I thought of downloading a Windows 8 .iso, burn it to a disk and install Windows 8. The last PC I worked with was from early 2010 and I had never heard of UEFI until now. Is it possible to clone my HD to an SSD and get it to work in Windows 8? It sounds like it should be possible.
Thanks -
P.S. This "new" model hast optional SecureBoot, but you can turn it off inside the BIOS. -
Hi all,
I bought a UX32VD-DB71 installed with Windows 7. Bought an Intel 180 GB SSD, installed a fresh copy of Windows 8 on it, dl'd and installed drivers from Asus's site, but the Wifi was slow, WiDi wasn't working, and battery, even at 100% charged, would show just 4 hours remaining with no noticeable hardware issue. So, I downgraded to Windows 7.
Now, although the wifi connection seems to be much better, whenever I'm downloading a file, I get DNS errors. Furthermore, the battery issue is still not resolved. Off a full charge, I got only 3.5 hours of surfing. No gaming, no video, no audio.
I'm obviously frustrated/upset, as I love the screen and build, but the wifi and battery issues are now making me consider sending it back. Any tips/advice would be very much appreciated... -
-
Ideally after I replace my HDD with the SSD I'll be able to dual boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu. The first step is to reinstall Win8 from scratch, then to install Ubuntu. I just need to know how to find my product key so that I can do a fresh install. -
I searched for a free utility program that can extract the Product Key, but they don't work with Windows 8 at this time. -
I have a question regarding the UX32VD. I remember reading a lot about various fan issues and wondered if most found soultions for the issues?
Also those that have working fans how is it? Is it constantly on or do they turn off at low load?
One last question what battery times are people getting with browsing and word processing?
I am considering getting one of these instead of the U500 that while very good had a few things that bugged me.

Hello,
I'm new here and greet all the members.
I have installed a INTEL SSD520/240 in a UX32VD.
On this SSD is now the ASUS operating system with Win7/64.
ScanDisk i100-24 is free.
I have a problem with the ScanDisk i100-24. I want it for a normal drive.
I can see the i100-24 the BIOS and in Disk Management, but not as a drive in the computer.
If I give in the Disk Management tool a drive letter to the i100-24, the drive suddenly is in the computer and I can describe it.
If I turn off and then turn on again the UX32VD the i100-24 is in the Disk Management again with no drive letter and is not visible in the computer.
Does anyone have a tip?
Regards, Vaio105 -
like I wrote: it´s stored inside the BIOS. Just install the OS. Because I also didn´t have a product key on my Zenbook and it activated itself automatically.... so I assume it´s stored inside the BIOS.
Anyone else got a clue about that?
Another question: My Windows 8 index shows only 5,5 for desktop-grafik... could this be? Can someone confirm that?
-
-
Although I´ve meanwhile 10GB RAM installed, the GPU values weren´t effected by the upgrade of RAM.
Are you using Windows 7 or 8? I´m using Windows 8 x64.
P.S. take a look at the index-screenshot here. They got 6,6 score in Windows 7!

10Gb RAM too, and Windows 8 64 too. Maybe because i updated my intel graphic drivers with windows update? I'm going to uninstall it and install the drivers from the asus website to see what ahppen

The only game I have been having trouble running well is Divinity 2: Ego Draconis which is a really fun game but it just chuggs on the UX32. Poorly optimized I guess. Also check out Borderlands 2. It is a blast and runs surprisingly well if you turn down the settings a bit.
I also played some Crysis last night. Decent FPS on medium @ 1600x900.
