Thanks. If you have the time and you don't mind, can you download AIDA64:
    Downloads | AIDA64

and check to see what it says about the UX32VD's SATA port? They have a zip package that doesn't have to install anything.

Everything in AIDA that pertains to SATA speeds says it's SATA III.

    Hey guys

I recently did a fresh install of windows 7, and since then been having issues with the bluetooth drive. there is an error message of "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" appearing under properties in device manager. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive. Is there any solution to this?

    Thanks

    Hey everyone!

Asus finally added the AC charger for the UX32VD to the eStore:
    65 Watt AC Adapter

    I placed my order already!

Hey everyone, I've had my UX32VD for over 2 months now and I've never been able to get great wifi performance out of it. I've combed through the forum and haven't seen anything mentioned about it. I'm on the firmware 211 and Intel's 6235 v15.2 driver. My router was a DIR-655 and I've recently purchased an Asus RT-N66U to see if it was a problem with the DIR-655 being too old or being pre-N or whatever. I'm in the same room as the router with no obstructions, about 10 feet away. I ran speedtest.net and I can't get my maximum internet speeds. I'm expecting about 32/7 U/D based on my desktop (on wired gigabit) and old laptop (Acer 1810T, Intel Wifi 5100), BOTH of which have no problems.

My router is set to WPA2-AES. I found another owner that had trouble because he was on WEP but that shoudn't be the issue here. He also said it was fine when he moved down to Wireless-G but I'm being stubborn and insisting there should be no reason my Wireless-N is worse than my weak Acer 1810T that's at least a few years old and nowhere near as powerful.

I've used inSSIDer to check the RSSI (perceived signal strength) of my wifi on both laptops and while the UX32VD is usually worse by a few dB, they're not very far off.

Sometimes I get full speeds and I can't find any correlation to my link speed which is usually above 120mbps or so, up to about 250mbps. I've compared link speed, signal strength/RSSI and various location around the house including within 1 ft of the router. There really is no reason I can't get full internet speeds when my iPad and iPhone are able to run speedtest at my maximum internet speeds.

Anyone with any advice would be appreciated!

    P.S.

Forgot to mention that I'm on a clean install of Win7-64 with a Samsung 830 SSD, stock ram still. I don't believe any of these factors should influence why I'm having this issue though. Connecting through the USB 10/100 dongle to the router gets me full internet speeds as expected.

I have two questions I would really appreciate some help with.

I have a problem with my iSSD. I can't seem to get in online again. Is there a way to get it working again as Asus originally intended?

My second problem is that the computer uses several minutes too boot after I did a clean install on the 500GB. As far as I know I installed all the drivers necessary, and I have added 8GB RAM, which works fine. Anyone have any ideas?

    I have the same issue. I have two routers I've tested with: D-Link DIR-655 (300mbs 3x3 2.4ghz N) and Linksys/Cisco e4200v2 (450mbs 3xMIMO 5ghz N).

Wireless performance varies from about 1-2MB per second max throughput for internal transfers (802.11N UX32VD, vertex3 SSD to a gigabit connected desktop with a REVO 3 pci-e SSD disk source).

My Cleve w110ER using the same (well not the same as per http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...asus-ux32vd-owners-lounge-14.html#post8843346) acheives 8-12MB per second using the same networks.

This is with the router(s) and the zenbook / w110ER sitting next to each other on a table.

Attempt to upgrade the mini PCI-E nic failed as per this thread post:

Check to make sure you are using 20MHz for the channel width for each band and also try changing the channel for each band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) on the router. I also had poor performance until I disabled 40MHz channel width on the router.

Now, if they could only fix this damn fan profile...

    about the fan issue:

there is a tool to overwrite the fan thresholds..its called Notebook Fan Control and you can find it here: [Vorstellung] NoteBook FanControl (NBFC) - ComputerBase Forum

however, there is one issue: the moronic bios is overruling the tool for a second, which leads to a starting fan again..but then the tool is overruling the bios (as the ec poll intervall is set to e.g.500ms) again, which stops the fan..and this goes one and on...

according to the programmer, there might be a register, where you could set the ec to manual fan speeds instead of the automatic ones from asus..

unfortunately I was not able to find that register..maybe someone could help me out?

I tested this with the following Bios versions: 211 and 212

    kind regards

Hey everyone, just an FYI for anyone having slow USB 3.0 performance from their USB Ports. Go to this download site on Asus's driver page: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download USB3.0

I downloaded the newest USB 3.0 Intel drivers and my Lexar Triton went from 20-40 MB/sec (pitiful for this flash drive) to 140-160 MB/sec write and 170-240 MB/sec read (that's more like it!).

Most benchmarks don't measure the impact of an SSD, and especially of extra ram. The irony is that these things aren't benchmarked because they're such huge variables for performance that they throw benchmarks off.

A few benchmarks (like Windows start-up speed) do measure SSD performance, but otherwise people use specific HD benchmarks (which, being microbenchmarks, don't really tell you how much faster your system will run). The impact of extra RAM cannot be benchmarked at all (a benchmark that fits in the RAM will run great, a benchmark that tries to use more RAM than available will run horribly... and that's it). Basically, if you use lots of big apps (ie, your commit size is greater than physical memory), you'll see a benefit beyond the standard 4GB.

Nevertheless, the impact of an SSD is huge. And RAM is dirt cheap. Ergo, get both.

Mine is 30GB (in "real" gigabytes). Perhaps you mean the space not counting recovery partitions?

There are different versions of the UX32VD, both internationally and within in North America.

Some have different warranties, clock speed (1.7GHz or 1.9GHZ) and some have either a 32GB iSSD or 24GB iSSD.

I fixed my problem with the power button. The keyboard cable was loose (though it is strange that ONLY the power button was affected). It was my fault the last time I took it apart, but if anyone else has the issue (and I read some reviews where people did), then check that cable. It is next to the battery cable.

Thanks for the response, I knew I forgot to mention something. I was on 20MHz-only on the DIR-655 and currently on 20/40 with the new Asus RT-N66U. Based on what I've read, 40mhz presents a lot of issues, but the Intel wifi card should support it. I also made sure there were no strong conflicting wifi channels in my area with inSSIDer - the router seemed to be properly finding an open channel (unless there are 'bad' channels? I know intermediate channels are iffy but I was at least a few channels away from the other ones, all of which had an RSSI of -70 to -80).

Thing is, it's sometimes perfectly fine, with full internet speeds on Speedtest.net. Same locations, testing in 3-4 locations around the house, including right next to the router (< 1 ft and about 10-15 ft), and upstairs away from the router located downstairs. Could be that roaming causes the wifi to lock onto a less-than-favorable spot and when moved, doesn't adapt well? I did restart inSSIDer when running quantitative tests (obsessively...) but did not disconnect/reconnect wifi or reboot. Maybe that's the next step.

I also have issues with the fan, but it's merely annoying, not a performance bottleneck so I just try to ignore it :)

I also had the left side USB 3.0 port (the only one of the 3 ports) keep dropping an external WD hard drive. Figure it wasn't supplying enough power. Anyone else have this issue? I figure since the other two seem to work fine and the left side one at full speed with a fast USB 3.0 flash drive that I'd just deal with it. Though that has come back to bite me on one of my self-built Shuttle systems...

The left port is on a ribbon. The ribbon may be poorly connected or damaged. Even if not, the ribbon reduces the signal quality so an imperfection anywhere else (usb cable, hard drive) can push things to not work. Your flash drive has no cable, which makes things much more favorable signal-wise.

Quick question: Does anyone know which driver I need to install to get the Ambient Light Sensor working? It's toggled on, but the keyboard backlight is always on. I can adjust the brightness manually with the hotkeys, but I can't get it to just auto-adjust.

I found that when I updated to BIOS 211 ( ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS ASUS ZENBOOK UX32VD), my ambient light sensor started working.

Before I updated, there was nothing if I went to Control Panel => Location and Other Sensors. After I updated though, there was a new entry for "Light Sensor" and I found the keyboard backlight would be sensitive to changes in lighting (e.g. shine your flashlight at the sensor and the backlight turns off). Hope that helps.

can anyone give a realistic estimate/experience of the battery life after ssd upgrade, if you're doing typical on-the-go things like office & browsing, with screen brightness somewhere low but enough? I'm considering this laptop but I really need a portable one. My current super-old netbook manages 5-6 hours under these conditions. I don't wanna spend 2k and get less than that. My other option would be the Series9, but I really would like the upgradeability and gpu on this one.

I don't think you will gain that much more battery life with an SSD upgrade. IF you really need more battery life you are better off with the UX31A. The non-upgradable version gets much better battery life, usually about 60-100min more than the UX32VD.

Could you please define "reusing it". I'm also hoping that you mean the ESD plastic bag which can seem a bit silverish. I have also seen that some memories come in a hard plastic container.

Hi, sorry, I am referring to the silver foil around the installed 2GB memory module. It seems to be some kind of heat or static lining. I was wondering if people are taking that off the OEM stick and putting it on the new memory module.

    Thanks

Yes, sorry, I see now what you mean. I would recommend reusing it since it's probably there to protect from electromagnetic interference or as you stated, thermal or ESD protection.

Amazing thread everyone. Thanks very much for the super helpful details. I just did a clean install of Windows 7 on a new SSD. I have almost everything working well but the Asus driver page no longer provides a camera driver. Does anybody know where I could find that? Google hasn't been much help. Thanks in advance.

Oh, and what is that little S in a box on the C button for? It is a hotkey but doesn't do anything for me right now.

Hi! I bought the UX31, but since I can't upgrade the RAM, I would like the UX32.

Has anyone tried installing more than 8GB in the one slot, and does it work/show up?

Before I bought the UX31 I bought a Toshiba z935, and although they mentioned 4GB is the max, I installed 8GB, and it worked! Here's the video I saw:
How to upgrade theToshiba Z935 Ultrabook up to 8GB RAM - YouTube

So, I am wondering if a brave soul has tried any more than a 8GB stick

    Thank you!

EDIT: a little googling and turns out they do not make 16GB yet?

I'm still seeing significant RSSI (effectively signal strength and quality) and link speed differences between my UX32VD with the Intel N-6235 compared to my old Acer 1810T using an Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN.

Anyone have any idea why? Poor antenna placement, the metal case (vs the plastic Acer)?

I'm also testing an iPhone 4S and an iPad2 in the same area and both of those get great signal and throughput on Speedtest.net fairly consistently.

No it depends on what your doing. If you running the wifi and screen at max etc. You should be able to get 5-6 hours depending on what your doing. IF you expect 8 hours or something then this isn't the laptop for you.

My fan issue continues after this latest update. It seems there is no middle setting on my fan. If I use fan control and set it to say 12.5% that fan runs at 100%. If I set it too 50% again 100%.

Without the app my CPU is around 52 degrees yet cycles from 100% fan and off all the time. This is just stupid!

I have received my UX32VD today. I am in the UK and when ordering through Amazon assumed that I would be getting a UK market model. However it has come from Germany with a slightly different keyboard. Most of the German labels I can easily understand because of their location. However the "Y" and "Z" keys have swapped position and the £ sign appears to have been replaced with a symbol I do not recognize. I presume that when I boot it up (battery on initial charge at the moment) I presume I can change to a UK keyboard set up. I am used to levering off keys and putting them back on, but I am nervous about doing this on the Zenbook as I am not sure if they just pop off!

I also need a manual, but when I try to search for one I get a list of locations that I am not sure about, they all seem to be third party suppliers who seem to require downloading some up front software, before providing a PDF manual. Any advice on a safe website to download a manual. The official Asus site does not appear to recognise their own product.

Was the battery completely empty? If a lithium battery is stored at 0% (or even less), it will degrade quickly. It must be stored at 40-60%. Perhaps someone turned on your notebook before you bought it and didn't shut it down properly or something.

Yes it does. Volume, display brightness and keyboard backlight animations are all affected. All other animations (such as touchpad enable/disable) do not display the usual white waves and glow.
Other ATKOSD2 themes could be created, with all new pictogram set and/or animations.

I've seen some people say they did it, how do you downgrade the bios? I tried both in windows and EZ Flash and it tells me the date is too old.
