I am running Windows 8 pro with no problems. The Asus drivers all seem to work fine.

Hi guys,
I would like to get a docking-station for my UX32VD, so I can run 1-2 external monitors off it as well as USB-things and ethernet.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Is the UX32VD compatible with "ASUS Docking Station USB 3.0"?
2. If I use above docking station, will I really be able to run 2x external displays (1600x1200px for example) AND the laptop's own display at the same time? Strictly for 2D stuff (software development), don't care about games performance.
Any other advice?
If it matters, my specs are: ASUS ZENBOOK UX32VD (R4002H) 13,3" FHD IPS GeForce GT620,Core i7-3517U,10GB RAM, 256GB SSD, WIN8.1 -
@klausj: I think you can actually run 3 monitors via the mini displayport + HDMI + internal screen. Ivy Bridge can natively support 3 monitors, 1600x1200 isn't too stressful either. You might want to try a miniDP to HDMI dongle before investing in a USB 3.0 converter.

Sad day for me...my UX32VD decided that just having the vestigial iSSD chip fail (causing slow bootup times and slow awakening from sleep) wasn't enough, and now the discrete video card has gone TU as well. I'm not sure if it would be worth it to have ASUS replace the vid card, as it has passed the warranty coverage date, but I'm pretty disappointed that a $1300 laptop didn't make it passed 18mo without fairly significant degradation, Gratefully, it isn't completely bricked, as the Intel Graphics chip is still functioning; however, one of the major factors for buying this thing was the discrete GeForce video card.

Thanks for the info. I will then also do a clean installation with 8 pro.
I assume that you also have installed a SSD in your ux32vd. Did you then also format the 24gig issd? Or did you kep it like it was and installed the express cache and the INTEL RST drivers after your clean installation of windows 8 pro? -

It also seems Asus does not sell Mini-VGA to DVI/HDMI, which makes we wonder if it is a good solution - or possible at all...
Any thoughts? -
Hi guys:
I received my UX32VD-DH71 yesterday afternoon. The native OS is WIN8, and I succesfully installed WIN7 64bit in the 24G iSSD due to the disgusting metro interface. Till now, everything seems good except for some drive problems. When I install the network drive, it always pops out an error and the installing thus ceased. I checked out that the version of drive is OK. Besides, there are always some unknow equipments undrived, infos aboout "ACPI...". Another flaw is that the font is too small to read even under the magnification of 125%. Now network surfing is a suffer, everytime I have to scroll my mouse to magnify. Any guys had got these problems solved? Any hints, many thanks! -

What drivers did you actually install? Intel chipset? Audio? Video? Webcam? etc etc.

Hiya
I haven't read this anywhere so I'll just mention it here....I had a UX32A which I'd already upgraded manually to a lovely HD LCD. The motherboard then died on me a couple of weeks ago...
I wasn't absolutely 100% sure that everything bar the mobo were the same inside the UX32A and VD, but figured what the hell, I needed to get a new motherboard anyway...so I ordered a UX32VD motherboard.
Can confirm that it all works perfectly, so now I have a UX32VD internally (FHD IPS, 240gig SSD 10GB RAM)...but it says UX32A on the back
And because it runs hotter with the onboard GPU, since it is always over 50 degrees it even kinda fixes the fan goes on, fan goes off issue Maybe I can actually use Linux again (couldn't take it previously not having a NotebookFanControl equivalent in Ubuntu...) -
Has anybody else upgraded to Win8.1?
I gave in to the prompts and did it, and about 8-9 devices are left in "unknown device" state in devices manager - and the asus support website lists very few drivers for the UX32VD.
I regret the upgrade and would caution other UX32VD owners to hold off for a bit until the driver situation is resolved. -

If you haven't done so, then go ahead and download the right version of drivers onto the system. -

I did a fresh install with windows 8.1. The display driver seems to be fine. No errors or anything. However it seems to look a little blurry to me, well maybe not blurry, but not crisp I guess. What is the display driver that I should be using? When I was on windows 8 it was not like this.
Not sure if there is a test to see if there is something wrong with it. Maybe its just my eyes, or maybe Im just going crazy.. but Im pretty sure it should look better then this.
Any ideas?
One other thing I just remembered:
I tried to update the bios and it wouldnt let me with the bios utility program. It says this is only for ASUS computers.. Hmm. dont know whats up with that. How do I update the bios? -

Have you checked the scaling? Does it look odd on an external monitor?

Hey everyone, I have read through this thread and have been unable to find the answer to my question... My CPU temps are idling around 55-65C. I have applied new thermal paste - Arctic Silver 5 - and appropriately (reduced my temps initially then they went back up - I know that they do take time to cure, just frustrating cause I thought I found the fix!). I have also cleaned the fans and made sure the heatsink was properly positioned...
Has anyone else had this problem? Does running your CPU around 65C cause any problems? I use Notebook Fan Controlled to make sure the fans kick in when necessary, however if I set the critical temp too low - all I hear is fans running non stop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I really like this laptop and I only recently got it - about a month ago. -
65C is perfectly fine for Intel chips (Tjmax is 105C). You should start worrying if it's constantly hitting above 85C-90C, which means you have a lot of dust in your vents. By 105C your computer will start throttling itself to cool down, which is fine, and if it gets really bad it'll just shut off. These chips are designed to heat up more than some earlier AMD chips, and you'll find every ultrabook and even the Macbook Pro keep their CPUs at >75C before kicking the fans on full.
No one in recent memory has ever killed their CPU from accidental overheating. Overvolting however, is another story. -

No I have not heard of overheat damage from the cpu either.
Was an issue back in the AMD Athlon xp days. -

Anyone know of a source to purchase a new battery? I have done a lot of searching. I have found 3rd party batteries, but I want to avoid these. In my past experiences, batteries by other manufactures are always inferior and usually quickly fail. I am trying to find a new battery made by ASUS. (I'm in the U.S.)

Can some one make an INF file of monitor using this software - EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | Monitor Asset Manager ???
OR if you have a separate display driver for UX32vd, please share -
so nobody owns this notebook anymore?

i have an asus ux32vd with a 500gb hdd. it runs windows 8 out of the box.
i would like to move the computer to a ssd and i am wondering if simply cloning the drive (which drive?) through a software like paragon, and swapping the ssd for the hdd would be enough?
i don't have much on the computer, nor will i, so i was thinking of picking up a 120GB ssd samsung 840 evo.
thoughts? most of the posts i have read on this thread deal with the twin ssd configuration of this laptop or the widows 7 configuration of this laptop. also, talk about weak wifi. has anyone successfully resolved the weak wifi situation yet? last i understood, the wifi card was a custom size for this motherboard so a direct replacement with something better wasn't possible.
the reason i am doing this is that the power jack/pin has all but broken and asus is sending someone to replace the motherboard on tuesday, but i would like to back up my drive before they show up, but also be able to swap up to the ssd once the tech fixes things. -
I just got my UX32VD used off a local classifieds site and I love it so far.
I just repasted, cleaned out the fans and vents, and installed an SSD and a 8GB RAM stick .
My question though, what's the dotted holes near the hinge for? -
On the bottom there are slotted holes, those are the air intakes. -
Hi guys, I have ux32vd corei7 model, using it for 1.5 yrs already, mainly using Linux and rarely Win8 which installed on integrated SSD 24 Gb for games only. I found that battery has 18% worn factor, acpi -V reports
Battery 0: design capacity 6520 mAh, last full capacity 5365 mAh = 82%
So i started to think about battery change. It is important for me because used to travel frequently. May we use some extended batteries instead basic 65W ? If so, links to sellers will be appreciated. -
Hi I wanted to ask if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card in the asus ux32vd?

I need help if anyone can help me. I have an ASUS UX32VD and when I had a 128GB Samsung 830 SSD in it, it was lightning fast, with opening programs, and scrolling on google chrome and everything.
But recently I have installed a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro, and everything has been some what slower, and I am not sure why. It's still fast but not as fast as the previous SSD. I did a clean install and I am not sure why. Like upon scrolling on Google chrome the scrolling would be laggy, and when I open the computer folders there is a laggy second, and when I try to drag programs and move them, there's a lag response.
I took a picture of my folder I think I messed something up when I did a clean install on the ASUS UX32VD, isn't there supposed to be a recovery drive or something when I do a clean install. Maybe that's the problem?
I even updated all of the drivers on the laptop for everything from the BIOS, Intel Chip Set, Wifi card.
The internet is a bit slower than usual too, and it was lightning fast before when I open websites. I am using the same internet and with my other laptop it's lightning fast when I open websites. Not sure if I did something wrong on this clean install if anyone can help me.
I even did a virus scan to check it out and it kind of made it faster but it came back, not sure if it's a virus but it shouldn't be. -
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend the smallest AC adapter possible for the ux32-vd. My cat mangled my original one and it is pretty big. Thanks
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Battery is 48W.
So the minimum AC adapter you can use is 50W, however you don't want to run anything intensive while charging the battery unless the battery is already full.
Also, running off 50W AC adapter may also result in reduced performance due to lower power supply. -
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I also upgraded to samsung evo 240gb and while everything is fast i have some real lag issues that i cant figure out.
-
Did you ever resolve this issue?

Have you ensured the drive has the latest firmware?

You should be able to get it straight from Samsung.

Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy a used UX32VD for around $700, is there anything I need to know about beforehand? What are somethings I should look out for?
How is the keyboard and trackpad on this Zenbook, will it give me any problems? I've heard about heat issues, but I do not mind as long as it doesn't damage the laptop. Is the fan noise a problem? How is the battery life? I'm looking for it to last me atleast 5-6 hours. -
I am on the hunt for the 4mm hex nut which holds the laptop hinge to the keyboard module as noted in this link of the UX32VD teardown (step 19): https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Asus+Zenbook+UX32VD+Teardown/10120
I cannot find one anywhere. I have taken a picture of the other one so you can have an idea of what it looks like on the side -
Hi guys, new user here, I am currently on Windows 7 on my UX32VD and have been experiencing some issues with the audio driver. I find that when I plug headphones in sometimes, a notification will pop up that I have PLUGGED something into the headphone jack then moments later it will say that I have UNPLUGGED my headphones in which case I have not. Generally this requires me to re-install the driver and reboot my machine for it to work again. Has anyone else noticed this issue or may be able to help me with a solution? I have tried installing different driver versions as well and I often get the same issue. Thanks in advance!

hello, i have just removed the defective sandisk SSD, it was a reliefe !!! my ultrabook is now working perfectly, thank you for this magical solution !!!

Hi everyone!
Is there someone who has, and can provide me, a calibrated ICC file for the UX32VD with i5-3317U (HD screen, 1366x768)?
I think that, at this moment, the colors of my laptop display are not accurate...
