Solution is (probably) uninstalling all Asus bloatware or windows reinstall without it.

I have the ux32vd and swaped out the hdd for an 240 ssd and installed windows 7, right now it does not show the 32gb ssd as a hard drive E when you look in the computer icon but it does show up in the manager. Will it make a difference that I have the windows 7 installed on the 240 g ssd or will it be faster if I load the OS on to the 32 ssd? Also I will be updating to the new windows 8 is this a concern for the 32g ssd?
I do have a couple of more questions regarding the old hdd but I will send another email after I get this solved if that is ok with you. I love my new asus ux32vd.

Installed windows 8 on my ux32vd today, no real issues. Just need to install the nvidia 620m driver and then you can use the 620m. I've found that the Asus hybrid power4gear doesn't work on windows 8, anyone found a version that might work on windows 8?
The Elan touchpad software did work. Acronis backup software not working .....
To be honest windows 8 is like windows 7. But it seemed to boot faster and gives some more battery life, which is why I'm interested. -
Does anyone install Windows XP on iSSD? I really need the 2nd windows using XP on my UX32VD for old tasks that must using Windows XP instead 7
Tks if anyone can share me your exciting experiences on this skill, i really just need the drivers for:
- Intel USB 3.0 drivers running on XP or just back-compatible supported the USB 3.0 works well on XP, no need the high speeds of 3.0
- LAN & Wifi works
Tks and appreciate for your helps/sharings... -
Hey everyone, new UX32VD owner, been following the other 400+ page thread for a while though. Have a question maybe someone can answer, with the Asus Smart Gesture drivers is it possible to do a 2 finger CLICK (not tap) for popup menu/right click menu. I know Elan does it, but I wanted to use the Asus driver because the inertial scrolling is better but I can't live without 2 finger click, and I disable all tap. Also, anyone get a garbled messed up video on Youtube if not using the 620m for chrome? Thanks!

Asus have bios 211 out for our UX32vd, it includes windows 8 support, so now hybrid power4gear works and the OSD....
Recommend you update your bios if your using Win8 -
That's great but can you tell me how to enable it? The only option in the Asus Settings are for 2 finger tap... -

Install MSI afterburner and you can overclock the GPU clock to the max setting. However experiment and watch your GPU temps dont get too hot. Since i'm not running stock paste on my GPU I can't speak on the safest setting. It really depends on each GPU. But overclocking will give you a definite boost. However once you reach a certain temp, the GPU will throttle. I'm still search for a fix on this.
-
I've been keeping it on low settings with a max 60fps and it stays around 80 degrees cpu and 75 gpu.
I have repasted with IC Daimond and was getting approx 80 cpu and 72 gpu temps after running 3dmark11 afterwards. -
- what is the best way to test it? the kombuster thing the afterburner software came with?
- when i loaded afterburner, all i could change or toogle is the core clock and memory clock, is this normal? -
Is anyone having troubles with the touchpad after BIOS 206 update. For example if I have my laptop in hiberate mode for several days, the touchpad won't register any of my gestures for a good minute. I would have to restart it.
-
The highest temps I get are 87c it doesn't go above this, but the fans are screaming.
- On the GPU I can max the overclock with +162 Mhz
- On the Memory I can overlock about 290 Mhz even more.
If your experiencing GPU throttling, lower the overclocks. Even 50 Mhz on the core and 100Mhz on the ram gives a nice little boost.
THese are my own personal settings, your 620m may differ

This is a nice bonus:
Windows 8 will adjust the screen brightness automatically 2-3 notches according to your ambient lighting.
I'm still looking for a way to fix that unknown device in the device manager, but it looks like we will have to wait till asus releases win8 drivers.
If you want Windows 8 for cheap, don't forget to use the windows 8 upgrade offer here: Windows Upgrade Offer - Landing Page -

Are you guys actually able to run the latest Nvidia Verde drivers on this thing? I'm on a fresh W7 Ultimate x64 and cannot get them to play well... every time I install 306.02(latest mobile verde drivers) I get a black screen on reboot... no graphics past the "starting windows" thing... which makes me feel that the latest intel 4000 drivers do not play well with the latest nvidia drivers. I've even tried the latest ones given by Asus and they don't work either... I'm on some old v296.44(the only one that actually boots and works...)
Why is this happening -_- wasting so much of my time.
I don't like running old drivers... newer ones always better optimized. -

Hi guys,
Any experience on he wifi reception on this thing? I bought mine a few days ago and have very poor wifi signal reception. I have updated the driver and the bios, removed the power4Gear and other stuff and set it to maximum performance-profile and not allowed it to save power or turn off the wifi card. But still I am only able to see my router's signal when the laptop is right next to it (-50dBm according to InSSIDer). That is very different from my other laptops, ipad and smartphones, which see 10-20 different signals in my area.
The really weird thing is that if I connect to my router with the ux32vd right next to the router and then move a few meters away it holds the signal very well. But as soon as it cannot hold it any longer the router disappears from my list of available networks which is then empty again.
I went to the store, but it is able to see the wifi-signals in the store, so they told me to (1) go home and try again and (2) do a factory reinstall. I did both but nothing help :-(
So now I am wondering if it is my expectations that are too high or if I should make the store send it to a technician for 2 weeks?
I very much hope someone will share their experiences with me!
Best regards, -

Has anyone found a 3rd party PSU that has compatible tips?
-
Anyone else experiencing lower than normal reception signal strength? -
I did this on a UX32VD-DB71, may not work on other models.
Open:
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\301.42\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver\nvam.inf
Ctrl+F "%NVIDIA", find the last line that starts with that and insert this line under it:
%NVIDIA_DEV.1140.1507.1043% = Section044, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1140&SUBSYS_15071043
Ctrl+F "635m", insert this line under the last line with that text:
NVIDIA_DEV.1140.1507.1043 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M "
Run driver setup.exe in parent folder.

in both cases, the smallest tip works for the UX32VD, but it doesnt "click/lock-in" like the original charger. so while it charges the laptop, it's technically hanging in loose and can fall out if you move the laptop around. i just leave it on the desk anyways and so far not much issues and my laptop hasnt fried yet -
I can confirm that the tip works and it charges the laptop, but the tip is loose and sticks out a couple of millimeters...slight movements cause the tip to come loose and stop the laptop from charging...It's not nearly as snug as the OEM wall adaptor, but it will do for when i'm in the office and won't be moving my UX32VD very much. -
Has anyone tried to upgrade the Wifi card in the UX32VD? I tried to swap out the intel 6235 card with a bigfoot killer-n 1102. The card fits in the pci slot and load in Windows fine, but the antenna connectors don't fit!
The 6235 card in the UX32VD has slightly smaller antenna connectors than a standard 6235 (I have the 6235 card in my Clevo w110ER too) so I'm wondering why Asus is using a different connector.

Just got my UX32VD a few days ago. Boot speeds are pretty damn slow but I have 256GB Samsung 830 laying on my counter. I'm just waiting for my Torx T5 and 8GB ram to come in. I have a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on a USB stick. Would that be easy to install? Also, should I go ahead and spend $15 on Windows 8? How are the boot up times with Windows 8 in comparison to Windows 7 with an SSD?

Another power charger observation:
The charger that came with my Google Chromebook CR48 actually charges the UX32VD, although the charger is loose just like the iGo charger. So I guess I have one more loose, somewhat sketchy power adapter. -
Does anyone know what drivers are needed to make the ambient light sensor work?
edit: nvm the screen display doesn't work with the light sensor, only the keyboard. -
Has anyone run any gaming benchmarks before and after a RAM upgrade?
-
This machine is a rocket when upgrading ram and replacing the slow Hitachi drive.
Very easy and you probably get one of the fastest ultrabooks around. -
It has been a week since I upgraded mine with a patriot 8gb 1600mhz cl11 ram and a corsair neutron 240gb gtx. Everything is golden and faster after a fresh W7 install. I like this machine. Just the WEI score of 5.9 in graphics annoys mine mind. It was 6.3 before the fresh install. I know WEI is not a great benchmark but why should decrease almost half a point!? I have tried playing with both intel and nvidia settings but it is always 5.9. Any suggestions fellas?

A question to those that have exchanged their units due to a bad backlight bleed (or whatever issue you may have had). Do you do this via the reseller, like xoticpc or amazon, or via asus support? Is there a fee for this or is this covered in the warranty, including shipping?

Hello all, new member here! I hope I'm not thread-jacking but this seems to be the most appropriate place for my question...regarding a fresh install of Win 7 Pro on Zenbook UX32VD-DB71, how the heck do you get the Asus KB Filter to install? I've downloaded KB_Filter_Win7_64_Z1003 (Keyboard Device Filter Utility 2010.12.20) after extracting and running the PNPINST64.exe file I get a small popup error window that just shows yellow exclamation point and says KB filter driver. I click OK and that's it, nothing happens.
I'm asking because I've noticed that when using Fn+f2 to disable wireless, the disabled wireless graphic appears in the center of the display however the wireless does not actually disconnect. I'm assuming this is due to the KB filter but I'm not positive. Any ideas how to get the wireless to actually disable with Fn+f2 or how to get the KB filter installed?
Thanks! And man, this place is a GREAT resource for Zenbook owners, really great knowledge base here! -

I'm wondering if maybe the ATK driver should be installed after the Intel Centrino wireless driver?
It's not a deal breaker, I can disable the wireless manually through device manager, but to save power when just watching a movie or something I'd like to be able to just do a keyboard shortcut to disable the wireless like usual.
Thanks again for the advice BloodyFart (that's a gruesome name BTW!!!:thumbsup -
Any SSD recommendations for the UX32VD? I have seen that a lot of owners choose the Samsung 830 SSD drives. I´m currently using an Intel 320 SSD in my ASUS VX2S and I´m quite satisfied with that one. I´ve seen that the Intel 520 SSD exists in a 7mm version. I´m also considering the OCZ Vertex 3 LP for my future UX32VD. But I would like to hear from your experience.

Im having the problem with the fan, its going from being completely off, to max...or very noisy. It is installed with factory settings but i know someone else who has a ssd and clean windows install (no extra asus bloatware) and also has the fan problem. i have the latest 211 bios. Dont know what it could be?

Also, might be a stupid question; im not much of a techie.
As I understand the issd is supposed to cache files that are frequently used (kind of like a second ram?) while running all installed products on the hdd. ASUS has firmware that tells the laptop which files to cache. I read from a review that this did not work as well as they wished, and hoped for ASUS to release new "smarter" firmware for this. My question is: if I install a ssd instead of the hdd, will the laptop keep using the issd to cache files? this would be bad as the issd is actually slower then the ssd. -
I'm having an odd issue that I need a bit of help with. My WiFi connection drops on sleep. I was having issues with the F2 hotkey showing that wireless adapter was off when I didn't manually turn it off so I uninstalled/re-installed the ATK driver which seemed to fix that problem. I've tried multiple hotspots so I know its not my router. I hate having to re-connect every time I open up the computer. I'm also on the newest 211 BIOS. (I've also checked my battery options and ticked "max performance" on each profile for the wireless adapter settings. I've also made sure that windows isn't turning my wifi adapter off to save power.) Any ideas on how to fix?
nm... I just repaired the intel proset driver; fixed for now. -

FYI RAM Upgrades - Did some testing today since I had a bunch of different SODIMMs handy which are commonly used to upgrade the UX32VD:
1) Stock 2GB 1600MHZ CAS11
2) CORSAIR VENGEANCE 8GB 1600MHZ CAS10
3) CORSAIR VALUE 8GB 1333MHZ CAS9
4) KINGSTON 8GB 1600MHZ CAS11
Test Results:
Sandra Memory Bandwidth (summarized result of 3 runs per module):
1) 19GB/sec
2) 13.8GB/sec
3) 13.7GB/sec
4) 14.6GB/sec
3DMark11 (Default Settings, NVIDIA 306.23 Driver)
1) P1146
2) P1134
3) P1130
4) P1140
Conclusions (some of these are already communicated by other posters):
- Going above 2GB in the SODIMM slot = No Dual Channel whatsoever. There is no apparent dual channel usage on the "first 2GB" of an installed 8GB SODIMM as some have speculated.
- Downclocking of non-CAS11 1600MHZ SODIMMs does occur - ie 1600MHZ CAS 9 or 10 SODIMM will downclock both internal RAM and SODIMM to 1333MHZ with whatever CAS is rated for the SODIMM / internal RAM at that speed.
- SODIMM with 1600MHZ CAS11 will run both internal RAM and installed SODIMM at 1600MHZ CAS11 single channel, which benchmarks faster than 1333MHZ CAS9/10, but really has no material impact on performance.
- 1600MHZ presumably consumes more power than 1333MHZ.
- Save money by buying a 1333MHZ chip which can be found (generally) cheaper than the 1600MHZ SODIMMs.
- As already posted - If you're buying a 1600MHZ SODIMM, get CAS11, not CAS10 or CAS9.
