What 3dMark06 score are you guys getting out of the UX32VD??
I'm only getting around 6200 as opposed to 7000+ on some reviews, which is barely higher than the HD4000 performance!

    SCORE
    6136 3DMarks
    SM2.0 SCORE

    HDR/SM3.0 SCORE

Actually I just changed my SSD and memory and I had to use a T4 torx
(don´t know if it is different between european/american)

A note about battery consumption while I'm at it, from initial tests, it went down from 14-17 Wh to 9-13 Wh
    Same scenario.

Gives me about 4 hours max... Still pretty bad, but at least a remarkable differece

I hope there is a driver/firmware problem as well that Asus can fix.
Too high batteryconsuption and also weird fan issues

Hey guys, I am new here and hopefully soon be a UX32VD owner. I have mine on back order but has been a while. I do have a question though. Have any of you tried to use Precision X for the GT 620m?

I've been using MSI afterburner which is basically the same thing. It still wont solve our GPU throttling issue after she gets too hot.

hi everyone... I just bought this laptop and must say that I love it so far. Within the last couple months I had bought and used HP Spectre 14 and the new Dell xps 15 and this is by far the best laptop for me. Initially I had a hard time with the touchpad because of its weak responsiveness but after the most recent driver update by ELan V10.5.10.0 its much better. Link here ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Touchpad
The screen is absolutely beautiful... sharpness and visibility cannot be beat. Fan noise is much quieter than my previous 2 laptops and the battery life is about the same as Dell xps.

The only really minor issue I have is that the ux32vd seems slippery. I feel like I'm going to accidentally drop it or something. Does anyone know if they sell a customized carbon fiber type cover for the bottom side? Even when I lie down on the couch to write this thing constantly slips around on me. If there was some type pf a customized bottom cover for this thing I would buy it in a heart beat.

Also for better palm rejection customize the elan trackpad by going to "additional" tab and lowere the detection radius to the smallest value available in the touchpad setting.

I have not opened my UX32VD yet (just waiting for time, I've got an SSD that really wants to go in there) so I have not confirmed which size Torx driver I need.

However, I have seen a lot of variation in the sizes of Torx drivers that were supposed to be the same size. I think it's entirely possible that a person using a T4 and another using a T5 are using drivers that are physically close in size and either mislabeled or just exhibiting variations in manufacturing. For people looking to buy a tool for this, I'd consider buying both (or a complete set) and then find the one that seems to fit the best.

^^^ This, I have several "precision" sets that I bought for taking apart various electronics like my Nintendo systems and other things, it seems like Torq bits this small aren't consistent across the board. Some of the T4's work, some T5's work, some sets neither one works.

Definitely pick up a full set instead of just one bit, just to be safe.

One of the first things I noticed when I started using my UX32VD was that there was a shortcut in the start menu names "Enable 3D Vision"

Has anyone tried this laptop using a pair of active shutter glasses from NVidia? If it does indeed work, I'll go out and get a pair of glasses, as I have done some 3D photography in the past.

This error is related to ElanTPCfg file that is located in the ASUS folder under ASUS STK management or something (search for it) it's just a file that allows you to disable the touchpad with the FN+ F9 combo. You can delete the file to remove this error, however the combo will not work with the samsung or newer elan drivers, but I can live with it frankly as palm detection works charms on the new drivers that are from miles better than the ASUS smartgesture or stock ones.

Has anyone gotten the multitouch gestures to work in Firefox? In Internet Explorer and Chrome they work for me (example: put three fingers on the touchpad and move them left or right to go back or forward) but in Firefox nothing happens.

Has anyone upgraded their ux32vd with a corsair vengeance CMSX8GX3M1A1600C10 8gb DDR3 stick? Are there any significant improvements in the performance? Decreases in battery life? Heating up issues?

    Hello,

I'm thinking of getting this notebook as well. Seems like it is backordered everywhere.

I have a favor to ask for those that's got it already. Can this unit output to two external monitors and also have the IPS display active at the same time? So all together 3 displays at the sametime. I saw the UX31A review on Notebookcheck showing that UX31A is able to do this. I'm assuming the UX32VD can do this as well, but just checking to make sure.

    Thanks in advance.

There is a beta version of the Asus smart gesture drivers that work in firefox. These drivers are better than the stock ones that came with the laptop but I am not sure they are better than the Elan ones. You can get the beta ones here (along with the latest Elan ones as well):

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Touchpad

I was using the Elan drivers from the above link and was happy with them. The beta drivers are better but they are a bit more "jumpy" and not as smooth as the Elan driver. Also you can't adjust the palm size the way you can with the Elan.

I realized my reply was a bit unclear. When I said the Asus beta drivers are better I meant better than the Asus stock ones -- they are not in my view better than the Elan ones. They are getting closer but I am using the Elan drivers for now.

I just got my ux32vd today and i'm having a few problems. For one the fan seems to be really inconsistent, cutting in and out for no apparent reason, also a scratching sound is very prominent, presumably this is from the mechanical hard drive, can anybody offer me any fixes or at least some insight?

Wow. That sounds exactly like my laptop. The fan does cut in and out when browsing casually and not doing anything intensive. The scratching noise on mine is unbearable though. I'm going to get it exchanged tomorrow. Such a disappointment to spend so much on a laptop you've been eagerly awaiting and for it to have these issues. Does anyone else have this problem or has anyone managed to fix the problem?

I love my laptop, but during playback of movies or when skyping, I get a lot of freeze-up/stuttering. Has anybody else experienced this or, more importantly, found a fix? I replaced my HDD with a Samsung SSD, and I added 8gb of corsair memory, for what it's worth.

When I opened the bottom of the UX32VD to install my SSD and RAM, I noticed that on the right fan there was a bit of ribbon cable wrapped in silver. It just so happened that there was a tiny notch that bent it inwards, touching the fan hub . I took two small pieces of double sided foam tape and placed it behind the cable so that it was about 1~2mm from the hub before reassembling it.

The end result was such utter silence I had to take it apart again to verify that the fans were actually running . So, to anyone who might be suffering from obtuse fan noise, this might be the culprit.

It would be nice, though, to have the fans run just a little bit more to keep the case bottom a little cooler. Anyone willing to take a stab at hacking a fan controller?

Hi - I've had my UX32vd about 3 weeks. My boot up time to get to the log in screen is over 6 minutes. I've been in touch with ASUS technical service via emails and have done everything they recommended but still have the same issue. I've tried full system restore (after backing up all my data), latest BIOS reload, full anti-virus scan, and eliminating various programs from running in the background in task manager. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I had this error as well, without having any hardware modification made. Noticed it mainly when listening to music or watching motion picture and just by seeing to coursor stutter. I found it so anoying that I sent my unit back for a replacement yesterday. So right now im waiting for my new machine and expecting it to arrive in 3 days or so. If the new on showing of the same behavor then im not sure i will keep this model at all due to the tons of error reports i've read about. Otherwise I liked it except the flimsy, but still not too loud fan, wich i'm sure will get some treatment in future BIOs update.

I found that my laptop did this when I was in "Battery Saving" Profile. As soon as I moved it to "entertainment" or "high performance" this problem went away instantly.

Anyone having a problem with battery wear and usage?

When I first got the laptop, I formatted and installed everything to the SSD. 10 gigs free and 450 free on the HDD. With the screen turned down, keyboard to 1, light wifi usage I was getting 5-5.5 hours of battery life. I've changed absolutely nothing on my laptop and now only can get a max of 4-4 hours and 15 minutes? What the hell is going on here?

I checked my battery wear and it's at 5.3% after only 2 months of ownership. Is this normal?

Looking for a portable machine, and this one is high on my list. Can anyone tell me if the headphone jack is also a mic jack?

One of my big issues with the ultrabooks is being able to replace the battery. If the bottom is removed, would it be easy to replace the battery in a year or two?

    Thanks. :)

Despite a lot of effort I haven't been able to get signal from my UX32VD via HDMI to my LG 50" HD plasma. I have also tried my HD Panasonic TV without any luck. Several different HDMI-cables at different lengths have been tried as well.

The laptop seems to "sense" the TV (laptop screen going black and coming back on when connecting), but both my HD TVs state "no signal".

    Any ideas/experience?

    Tnx

Anyone know where I can get the ethernet and vga cable adapters? I took a class last week and they must've fallen out of my bag. I could probably live w/out VGA (but would like dual monitor), so might just buy usb ethernet.

Posted this in the HUGE thread as well.

UX32VD Laptop Fan Noise - Just wondering if someone could replicate this test for me. I saw a post in the ASUS forum about someone who uninstalled his Asus Live Update. (Sorry dont know his name to give him credit). For whatever reason, this stopped his fans from cycling.

I also uninstalled Asus Live Update. While running on battery I restarted, let the laptop come up to temperature, put it in sleep, opened the lid and have been monitoring the fan with Speedfan without seeing any random fan spin ups. Repeated the sleep and monitored fan while surfing. No random fan spinups.

I dont know if this is due to system temperature or what at this point but was hoping that someone with a UX32VD would try to replicate this please.

    Cheers,

Edit: After testing this for some time I see the fan alternating from 3200 to 3400. An audible change. When will Asus update the bios or drivers for this.

I was thinking of moving my pagefile.sys to the 24gb iSSD. Has anyone managed to do this?

By default, Windows doesn't let you do this because the iSSD is considered to be a removable drive (even though it's soldered to the motherboard!)

For those that have SWAPPED the HDD for an SSD....

What did you do with the iSSD that is soldered on the board? Left it alone? use it as storage? load another OS on it? If you guys did any of those, lemme know how.

Do you have any news about solution for the horrible "bleeding" problem?

Solved: I used diskpart to clean/delete any volume on the iSSD, then use Disk Management to Initialized the disk, then right click to Create a New Volume, and tada, 22GB of storage (This is a newer UX32VD , comes with only 24GB iSSD)

I was wondering the same thing! It looks like Asus have downgraded the spec by now distributing the ASUS UX32VD-DB71 with a core i7 3517UE at 1.7Ghz instead of the core i7 3517U at 1.9Ghz that reviewers had access to upon its release. The thing is everybody's selling them at the same price and even advertising them as 1.9Ghz when they may well be 1.7Ghz.

Has anybody bothered to check their CPU with cpu-z or some such?

    Cheers.

    Hello,
I got my ux32vd a few days ago and it is a great machine yet it has some (possible) issues... I am not facing that noisy fan issue as many of you do in extent that would bother me so that is quite ok. On the fan side, however, from my old asus notebook I am used to fans shuting up immediately while cooling is set to passive (aka quite office in power4gear) :)

What bothers me more is the noisy hdd - I can hear hdd much more than fans and moreover the sound is permanent and remains even after unistalling that preinstalled crap, turning off indexation, superfetch etc. The sound is not strange in any way and the drive is otherwise working fine, I am just surprised how much i can hear it. With my previous asus notebook I couldn't hear hdd almost at all.

This is my first ultrabook ever so I don't know if it is just normal to "hear more" than on classical notebook due to its construction or whatever or if I should suspect a hardware problem? Do any of you have similar experience with noisy hard drive? I am planning to upgrade to SSD anyway but I would like to know if I should get the original hdd replaced before... Thanks!

I just bought this laptop from ExcaliberPC - through Amazon.

It is stated on both sites (Amazon and Excaliber) that the processor speed is 1.7, but I was under the impression that it was supposed to be 1.9.

I keep reading here, that everybody's is 1.9, however, I am kinda worried that the new ones are coming with a 1.7 processor...

Can anyone confirm or deny this, especially whoever bought his from Excaliber...

    Thanks.

Ever since I upgraded to the new BIOS, I have been having problems with my touchpad. If I don't shut my laptop off for lets say 4 days keep it in hibernate and sleep mode, then on the fifth day the touchpad stops responding whenever I turn it on from sleep or hibernate mode. It takes a minute for it to start responding or i have to complete shut the laptop off. Anyone have a solution or had gone through this problem. Also anyone found a fix for the fan noise? I am past thirty days so I can't exchange it now, just have it sent to ASUS to repair it.

Has anyone got and used a replacement powercharger for their UX32VD? There are a few up on eBay but they all look either really big or kind of shady. I'd love to get a kensington charger or even another charger direct from Asus but I can't seem to find any...

I've inquired with Asus about a replacement, and they assured me they Asus eStore will have them in August...obviously that has passed, there's still none in stock.

I've inquired with X-Pal Power, and they've sent me some tips but none of them fit correctly, so I have sent more detailed photos to them.

I've also inquired with iGo but haven't gotten any response quite yet.

Of all the things I love about my UX32VD, not having an extra charger is my least favorite.
