    Hey there,

I got that computer for about 8 month now.

What a waist of money when i see the poor performances of that computer. Out of the box without any software installed except the original windows 7 install and the bios and driver upgraded to the last version, it is barely capable to play a youtube clip without freezing all the time. Windows areo get automatically disabled by the system because it was unable to run it.

After email ping pong with their ty after-sales for several month, nothing has improved.

My 4 year old macbook pro (windows 7) with tons of software running is much faster and doesn't have more ram.

I noticed that the hard drive is very often running at 100%, slowing down the all system.

Since now I've no other choices than putting that crap to the rubbish or spend more money to try to get something out of that, I'll try to upgrade to a SSD and 8 or 10 gig ram.

BTW, did anyone of you have been able to wake up from sleep within 2 seconds as advertised by them ? usually me it takes 15 sec to get to the home screen, plus 40 sec to have the system stable enough to start using it.

Asus, my first and surely the last try for me.

Perhaps a read through this thread would have set your expectations differently, everyone seems to love this computer after the following is done:

    1) Install a primary SSD, or install re-install windows on the internal caching SSD.
    2) Upgrade RAM - this isn't really required, but if your use profile puts you above 4GB of RAM frequently, then yes it will help.

Once those things are done, you should have a system that works the way you want. Using the internal SSD + no RAM upgrade will result in a zero cost performance improvement, aside from the T&E that it takes to re-configure and re-install windows.

Yes, it is a shame that Asus did not correctly configure this laptop out-of-the-box, but pretty much all PC manufacturers are guilty of the same.

good luck, and again, reading through this thread will help you achieve success with regards to the 2 points above.

I had a lot of computer before that (HP, Mac, ..) one and never be disappointed by any. A 1'200$+ computer not able to play youtube video, I don't believe this is normal.

So what is the express cache for ? doesn't seem to increase performance but rather slow the computer down.

Installing the OS on the internal SSD doesn't seem to be a good idea after all the post about the internal SSD hardware issues.

    Hi all,

Had UX32VD for a year now, and since the wireless card is extremely bad (centrino advanced N-6235), I would like to upgrade it for something with better range. Which model should I go for? Should I worry about antennas mounted in the bezel (not sure if that is not an issue).

    Thanks for responses!

There must be something wrong with your machine. I have no trouble playing you tube or any other videos including streaming high definition stuff. I play some games on mine (mostly call of duty) and don't see any real issues. I have done no upgrades to mine so it is stock. The only real change I made was to upgrade to Windows 8. Not sure what us wrong with yours but if it were me I might try a clean install of the operating system.

    hi!

I've one problem, my ux32vd, on AC power with any power profile, is stuck at 0.77ghz(lowest multiplier possible).
On DC battery power, it spans over all possible frequencies.

How possible is that?? The cpu remains at 0.77 ghz even if I use calculus intensive applications.

    Power settings seems OK!

The Intel 7260 WiFI card works with this laptop and supports Wireless-N AC. You will need to modify the connectors on the WiFi card by removing the outer rings of each connector and leaving the center pin. The center pin fits in the existing antenna connector and I used some electrical tape to hold it in place.

Driver support for the Intel 7260 is pretty lacking at this point, but there are Windows 7/8 drivers. Linux on the other hand is a different story, I needed to use kernel 3.11 to get it to work, which unfortunately is still in RC at the moment. I may re-install the old card until better Linux support is available.

The killer 1202 should also work, and I believe it requires the same modifications of the antenna connectors.

    Hi,
has anybody upgraded their HDD to 1TB HDD?
Since big capacity SSDs are out of my league at the moment i'm looking for a solution to not having my external HDD with me all the time.

So long as you match the dimensions of the original drive you should be fine.

Some high capacity drives are taller (with more platters) which will not fit.

Hi, just faced that exact problem. How do you remove the outer rings without destroying the Card? Small plier and rip it off?

    Kind regards

I used needle nose pliers and slowly twisted the outer ring to work it off. You have to be careful not to put too much pressure on it or you will crush the pin.

    Hi!

I have a problem with my UX32VD. Bought it last year, used the guide on this forum to install Win7 (fresh) on the iSSD. Result - a much more responsive PC and fast boot.

Now, one day ago, the PC crashed when I attempted to wake it from sleep, and wouldn't boot. I reinstalled Win7 via an USB stick, but now the 32 GB iSSD was not possible to select as to where I could install Win7. I therefore had to delete current partitions and make a new one for OS (on the HDD) and one for other stuff (still on HDD).

Fortunately I had like 75-80% backed up on the regular HDD that I had to format, so I didn't lose much.

But now - powering on the PC takes about 5-6 minutes time as I'm guessing the iSSD is broken and Windows is looking for it so it takes ages to boot the computer.

I talked to ASUS service and was offered to send it back in. The only problem here is the following; if it turns out to be a software error - it will cost me quite a bit of money. If it's a hardware error, they will probably repair the PC and send it back.

Any ideas? I've looked through threads like http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/679687-ux32vd-issd-not-detected.html, but I couldn't get any answer there either.

The Sandisk iSSD is not listed in disk management or device manager as it used to. So software error, and how do I fix it, or just send it to their service department?

Do you see the Sandisk SSD in BIOS? I see it on my UX32VD in BIOS-avanced-Sata
there I see 1 Hitachi hard drive and 1 Sandisk SSD
If it's not there it's probably a hardware error.

Did you installed the driver in Windows for the SSD cache ?

Hello everyone! Since there are so many helpful people here I'll try to ask a question and see whether you can help me, when Asus support couldn't.

I bought this computer around new year, so it's approx. 9 months old. Since then I've changed to a SSD and 10GB RAM. So here comes the problem.. Since I've changed to a SSD my CPU hasn't been working the way it should, it stays at 28x Multiplier (2800MHz) even when Task Manager says 3 % CPU USage..

This leads to EXTREMELY poor battery-life and serious heat problems = high noise from fan... When I emailed ASUS support they said:
I tried to install the first 2 things, but haven't tried to flash the BIOS yet. Is it something I've missed or do you think that flashing the BIOS might help me?

    Picture: http://lookpic.com/O/i2/54/ckNE737B.png

    Thanks in advance
    Anders

Sounded like an easy job but as it comes out, not so easy at all. Those some high capacity drives that fit are not very common...
Well, have to find another alternative.

    Hi,

I bought a used UX32VD recently. Happy with its performance apart from wi-fi, which is a mess. It only works when I turn off n and use WPA2-AES, anything else and it won't work at all. My 5 years old Dell XPS M1530 doesn't have any problems and gets 10/10 at speedtest.net. I get 1/1 on my UX32VD on wi-fi with n switched off etc., 5/5 tethered through my phone and 10/10 wired.

I gather my only option is to replace the Intel 6235 card with something that needs tweaking to work? I suck at using tools and will more likely than not break anything I attempt to change. Or has there been an update recently? I'm not even sure if this is a software or hardware problem.

You can set the MIN and MAX CPU load in the power plan that you use:
change plan settings - advanced... Processor settings... : MIN and MAX ...
MIN=5% and MAX 100% (for battery and plugged in) and to define for the power plan that you use
    You can try ....????

Also I see that when I choose the Balanced Power plan the CPU is running at much lower frequency as with High Performance. So there are much more options in the power plan that influences that !!

No I can't change any settings except cooling settings under the Processor settings.. The MIN and MAX has disappeared from that page, which makes it worthless....

Are you using Power4gear from Asus?
What if you try the balanced or high performance power plan from Windows? There I can change the speed, and balanced has a much lower CPU frequency (but probably slower)
    I have WIN8-PRO/64

I've tried with both Windows own power plans and with P4G, but none of it works.. The Min and MAx doesn't exist either way, and the processor keeps running at full frequency, no matter whihc one I choose..

I can not see your PNG...
And if you uninstall Power4gear like I did? I use the Windows plans.
I have WIN8 PRO 64bit, may be the options are different? Or its Power4gear that add some problems??

Hi thanks for replying. In the BIOS I can only see the Hitachi HDD under hard drives or what the name of it is. But the name of where you find the disk is advanced-sata? (not really used to going about the BIOS)

What kind of driver is that that is meant for the SSD cache? Is it one of the Intel like Rapid Start technologies? I've got the Expresscache software by Condusiv tech installed, but not sure if that's the one that you mean.

The Sandisk SSD must be listed in the BIOS, advanced menu , and there in the Sata part.
I see it in my UX32VD. If you don't see it, it must be defective.
If you see it you need the Expresscache software installed to use it.
Install Crystaldiskinfo (free) to check if it's found and if there are errors on it.
If it's defective/not-found, you can uninstall the Expresscache to avoid Windows problems. Also in the device manager you can disable it, if found and defective.

If you click the PNG and then refresh the page it usually works.

Anyways, I haven't uninstalled P4G but will try that aswell. I also have Win8 PRO 64bit so probably no problem there..
Also will try to install Kubuntu to see whether it works there or not!

    Thanks for the help! :)

Installed Crystaldiskinfo, it only detects the Hitachi HDD and not the Sandisk iSSD.

Cannot see the disk in device manager either.

I'm just waiting for a power supply for an older laptop I own before I send in the Asus machine, but hopefully that won't take too long.

    Then it must be defect:
it must be visible in BIOS in advanced menu , sata...
it must be visible in device manager
it must be visible in Crystaldiskinfo

You can uninstall Exprescache if the pc is to slow because he is looking for the ISSD. But if you send it back you can leave it! ;)

The ISSD if used for caching may not be made visible to many normal programs. Try using the intel tools.

    Okay guys can someone help?

I have the ux32vd with windows 7 installed.
    256GB SSD samsung 840
    10GB RAM

I get like 5 hours battery life.

I want to reinstall windows 7 and then install everything this notebook needs but not the serious bloatware asus offers. I was told to remove power4gear too.

Can someone give me a list of things to install that are needed for this laptop?
for example like the drivers for instant on etc.

+ other things to watch CPU + battery?

    thanks in advance

    Hello guys how are you??
I have a ux32vd 3001x from almost a year, all good so far except the known problem with the wifi.
Anyway I have question about the fans, which are causing me several problems. The first one is their behavior, the classic on-off-on-off. I don't know why but it has occurred less than 10 times in a year, and that's very weird. I mean it should happen every time, or never!
For what I know no solution so far, is that right?

Then yesterday I took off the back panel of the laptop for cleaning it and check the fans, and I found out that the right fan (CPU) behaves normally, the left one (for what I know it's the GPU fan) starts every 20-30-40 seconds, than it stops for sometime that could be 10 second or several minutes, than it starts again and stops again, and all of it very irregularly.
    Is that normal?
I mean if the left fan is the GPU fan could have sense that it behaves differently form the CPU fan, but it's still too weird for me.
What do you guys think about it?? And how do your fans behave?

Last question regarding temperatures. While watching and HD video with KMP using CORE AVC as decoder (so the GPU) the cores are usually between 65 and 68 degrees. Surfing on the web or doing other normal "office stuff" I have around 60-65 degrees.
When I opened the laptop yesterday there wasn't too much dust so cleaning it didn't really help me!
What temperatures do you have usually??
Could that depend on the left fan?
    Thanks

    Hello,

I'm a new Ux32vd owner, so far really like the machine. However this morning my keyboard stopped functioning properly. The shift key does not work on randorm keys and #1111111111111111111111 key sticks or does not always work. I have uninstalled the driver, re-booted to no avail.

The Driver I'm seeing is the PC/aT Enhanced PS/2 Keyboard.

Does anyone have an idea for me to try?

    Regards,
    Jon

Update/install your Chipset driver and the Power 4 Gear software. Set it to maximize bttery life. You should get 6-7 if its a new unit.

Having some problems with latest Intel wi-fi drivers using Windows 8.1 Pro Preview.

Wi-fi doesn't really work out of cold boot/sleep, it's connected and by the looks of it I should be able to access LAN/internet as everything looks normal. I need to troubleshoot (which then disable/enable adapter) and it works after that. Or I can disable/enable adapter myself (airplane mode on/off) and everything works perfect. Same problem from cold boot as with out of sleep.

After long long time, I finally got myself a Crucial M500 SSD, and planning to install Windows 7 ult on my current Win 8 UX32VD.
I still heard that I have to turn off the Secure boot in order to install windows 7, just wondering does anyone have a guide or some sort of tips for installing a fresh win 7 to a fresh SSD, searched around the forum, but no cigar.

I once experienced keyboard problems after a RMA. Turned out that the "cable" from the keyboard wasn't mounted properly on the mainboard. It's easy to fix yourself.

    Kind regards

The thing is, my UX32VD comes with Windows 8 pre-installed, not upgraded to. I heard something about downgrade rights that only Win 8 Pro has and the normal Win8 don't. But thx for the links.
Do I need to edit something in the BIOS?

Hello! I've a problem with my asus ux32vd: the screen periodically turns black while it is open and keyboard lightning doesn't work too. When I close screen and turn it again to the working position - everything lights on, then everything happens again.
and i noticed that right fan that must cool video processor doesn't turn on when i give to processor a good load. Fan is ok - I checked it. I reinstalled all system but the problem didn't go away. Any suggestions what to do?
    Thank you
And does anybody notice how many fans work in asus ux32vd when processors are heavy loaded?

Mine also came with a pre-installed version of win 8.
I tried the Win 7 (downgrade) in a brand new SSD and also returned to factory pre-installed Win 8 also in the new SSD (ux32vd works better that way).

There is no need to modified the BIOs. At max choose to boot by the new SSD.

Well, I want to install Windows 7 via an external DVD drive, how did you install Windows 7 on your new SSD? is it alright if you can give me some steps? When I want to install windows 7 on my SSD (after putting the SSD inside the computer), When I want to boot the Windows 7 ult disc, the computer just says, reboot the device or insert the correct media or something. I have the Recovery disc which boots fine, but it won't boot the Windows 7 install disc. Any help?
