Very easy. 6 screws total and you just lift it up without removing anything else (fans etc).

    Hi

So, I have a bluescreen again.

This is my second ux32vd as I had to send my last one back because of this exact error. My current notebook has (for now) overcome the fan issue (see the "Fan on, fan off"-thread).

Instead of contacting Asus or the place I bought it and being told to send it back, I want to see if you can help me out first.

The bluescreen error I am talking about is DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

I did some research last time it happened but I didn't learn much, except it is something concerning the drivers. After searching briefly around on this forum somebody said to download WhoCrashed to check what's up, and this is the report I got: (sorry to include the whole thing here)

I'm not that good at interpreting this, so I hope some of you can analyze this for me? What the hell do I do?

Oh, btw - this time it happened right after (in the required reboot) I uninstalled McAfee Internet Security (the subscriptions was finished). I had AVG installed as well, but it was turned off. Don't know if it helps, but it was strange that the bluescreen came at that exact time

there are 2 different bios in the same site, one for ux32vd an another for ux32vda; the ux32vda is for systems without issd
make sure you have the right version.

This is not a plug for the shop, but just to share ---

apparently an updated UX32VD hits the market: UX32VD-R4057W

    Intel Core i7 3537U
    1G Ge-Force GT 630M
    1x 256G SSD

    Asus Zenbook Prime UX32VD-R4057W - Ultrabook with Intel Core i7 3537U ULV - Windows 7 Pro 64 - 6 GB RAM ( $69 extra Upgrade to 10G ) -1x 256G SSD, 13.3" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED, 1G Ge-Force GT 630M, BT4.0 1.4KG, UX32VD-R4057W

    looks pretty sweet.

Weird though that Asus website does not have any info on an updated models. Is this just BS, or third-party mods, or after all a recently updated model quietly creped up onto marketplace?

Well it all comes down to the chips used, it's possible that slight revisions are eased out over time.

Got my SSD installed today, which makes a proper computer. Super fast. No install problems at all and no bios changes needed. The SSD is a SanDisk Ultra Plus 256GB.

Now waiting for the thermal paste to arrive so that I can get my temps down. It's running 55c just sitting here while I type this.

Mine is having a similar issue, the light won't stay on (won't start powering the laptop) unless I bend it closer to the laptop, I ordered one of the Asus slim power adapters that has a slim brick in the middle of the cord instead of on the wall, I figured it might have less chance of failure. I didn't even try calling Asus, did they send you one for free, if so I may do that as well and return the one I bought.

Too bad repasting voids the warranty or I'd do it right now.

I use this every day at work. Set it up through the Intel panel or the Windows one, I used Intel so I could set the monitor to 1366x or so since it is far away from my face and have it scale properly - I use the other two at 1920x1080 no problem, nice having the 3 at once.

Any reply about whether UX32VD-DS72 really has standard MSATA drives or not?

    Thanks,
    Peter

P.S. Anyone else see this? http://www.anandtech.com/show/6927/some-haswell-tdps-revealed-15w-28w-ultrabooks - They state specifically Intel's strategy is to kill off ultrabooks like the UX32VD - ultrabooks with discrete graphics that are not top of the line but much better than integrated by making the integrated so much better than it was - I think the UX32VD 620m model is about 10% more powerful then the next gen Ultrabook Intel graphics at 15W but at 28W Intel may win...

    Hi guys,

I consider buying one during a visit to the US soon. I do have a few questions that maybe you can help answer me.

    1. The wall charger: I know it will have a US charger. Has anyone used it abroad with a US to UK or US to 'rest of world' adapter? I wonder if the whole set: square box with those thin US pins and an adapter will be stable enough for permanent use. Or does the notebook come with additional international adapters already? A photo would be great!

    2. How big is the difference between the two different processor versions? The biggest thing I plan to do with it is play Guildwars2 on low settings with it, if it works.

    3. Gosh, the way I use my current computer (different windows indeed, always several Firefox profiles open and switching between them) Win7 would probably be the best choice but most offers I see are with Win8. Is it possible for a not so tech savvy person to downgrade? I'm also not so sure if my current software will run with Win8 as some of it is older already. Plus I don't like the whole app idea... what do you think?

    4. Place to shop for one? I'll be in Houston, TX. Best Buy? Simply Amazon with shipment to hotel?

    Thanks a lot,
    sfg

I'm having a similar issue with my charger where the light on the adapter doesn't consistently stay on, but it does seem to charge regardless of the light. I have it plugged in right now, the light isn't on but the charger indicator on the bottom right is still there. In the time it took to type this post it went from 46% to 48% so I'm pretty sure its still charging.

Not sure if I should bother asking for another one.
As long as it works that's all I really want, but I guess my OCD kicks and and wants the light to work perfectly. :p

Performed another re-paste but it still didn't help my temps. I guess I'm stuck with what I've got. So far, it runs steady, even while at 87c during extended game play. I just hadn't planned on using this laptop as a form of birth control.

I agree idle does seem high. You have set to allow full down/up clocking, so from 0.8GHz to 3.0GHz. And what is your ambient room temp. 10F lower would be nice.

    Hey everyone,

first I'd like to thank you for this thread. It took me a little to find it. But it is definitely the best and the most useful forum out there for the UX32vd.

I love mine so far (also did the 10gb RAM and 256GB Samsung 830 SDD modification.)
During the last months of usage I was able to fix all kinds of problems (like the fan issue for example)
But now I experienced two things that bother me a little.

    First
, I also feel like that the contrast of the display takes way to long after looking at a real dark picture and switching back to a regular white website or similar light content. I read the first 50 pages of the thread already and it was stated that the solution was to delete a ASUS program which interferes with the display settings. But on my clean install of Win7 there is no such program. Is there any other solution out there?

Second, I still don't really know how to actually improve the charging of the UX32VD. Most the time I use it for Photoshop with an external tft-monitor or for gaming at my desk at home. I used to take of the cord every time the battery has been charged and I charge it again after the 7% warning signal. Due to the high energy consumption I feel like my UX32VD has way above 100 charging cycles. Now I checked with the tools you use and my Maximum Charge is only 40.7 Wh after about 7 months. After optimizing the battery saving settings the other day I have a discharge rate from 6.1W to 12W with very low settings. (Only surfing the Internet)

Now my question is: Should just charge it every time I use at home and not run it without having it plugged in? Or what is the best option for the battery?

I would really appreciate an answer.
    Thank you!

So your maximum capacity is only 89% of designed? I am 5 months and 97% of designed. I could and would tell you that intentional discharge is a bad idea. With a finite number of charge cycles unless you are needing the battery why. I will say a periodic discharge to help with calibration and some say to prevent part of the battery from atrophy say once a month maybe. But no do not discharge every time charge reaches 100%. If your concern is the heat while charged 100% I can tell you the discharging you do exceeds that greatly.

You do not have to worry about partial charges on the type of battery you have. Other than maybe the monthly full cycle I mentioned. And if you do that or more with regular use you don't even have to intentionally do.

Thanks a lot. I should have asked much earlier :/
But nevertheless thank you for your advice. I will start to leave it on the cord for as long as I can.
I know for sure that I will need a new battery much sooner than you do. But a new battery should be worth the $70 as soon as it really starts to bother me.

Do you shut your laptop off and then remove the powering cord, or do you just leave the cord on despite the fact that you shut off your device?

I do not make any attempt to remove the charge plug. I guess I forgot to say, the battery is smart. Contrary to some peoples concerns, your batt can neither over or under charge. I should say unless you try and under charge. But that takes a major level of effort or dare I say stupidity. OK maybe I am harsh, I apologize. If you ran your batt down to zero(3%)? It would take an extended amount of time before the natural depletion would get below the say 3% that is locked in. So without effort I hardly see over discharge as a real issue.

the latest bios for the ux32vd-ds72 is the 203, you got the right one. the utility to flash bios wont let you flash to the 214 because is not designated for your laptop, look for the updates marked for UX32VDA

Just pulled the trigger on my 32VD. First things first. I'm getting a SSD and more memory for it. Thinking Samsung 840 for the SSD. Any particular RAM I should buy?

A couple of other things. Are there any set instructions on a tidy clean windows 7 install or is it pretty much normal procedure. Any driver issues etc?

Finally, is there a way of removing the msata or at least making it appear as a useable hard drive in windows (I won't be installing windows on it)

    thank you

    Thanks again!
I will keep all of your advice in mind! I read through the manual of it but I couldn't find anything on it and then I just did not find this platform soon enough to actually ask the question. :)

Anybody has the same problem with the slow adjusting contrast after switching from a dark screen to a bright screen? It seems to only be a problem when I am running my device on battery only.

Moppel help me understand better what you mean about contrast. Maybe tell me how to do it? I just do not really get it but I know it is me that fails to understand. How do I test?

You say battery? Can you set your high performance while on battery, and does it still happen.

I have a question regarding Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

Every time I turn on my notebook, it works fine for 5-10 minutes. Then all of a sudden firefox or win explorer or whatever is open stops responding for like 5 mins. If I press ctrl alt del, the task manager doesnt come up until those minutes have passed anyway, so it is of no use. But after these 5 minutes of non-response, a notification shows up down by the task bar saying "SATA available disc: Removed" (with Intel Rapid Storage tech logo above) and all is back to normal. This happens EVERY time I cold boot or resume from sleep mode. I just sit around waiting for it to freeze so I can start doing what I want to do.

I've attached a photo of how it looks when I open the IRST program after it happens. It's in Norwegian, but you can see there's an empty port there, and it usually is a disc attached to that port. I think it's my SSD disc of 24gb or whatever that gets removed
    Uten navn.jpg

    So what is wrong here?

I should perhaps add that I am experiencing other major issues with this notebook as well, namely a BSOD with the error DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, which I have whined about earlier in other threads without having been able to fix it. What I do know (I think) is that it has to do with ntoskrnl.exe and some driver which I can't identify. Well, anyway, the two issues may be related or not, but for now I want to fix this IRST issue..

Btw, on the Asus website it says "Do not uninstall the IRST driver." Does that mean that I dont have to uninstall it when installing a newer driver, or does it mean that I cannot uninstall IRST at all?

    Thanks in advance

So, my replacement power cord came in and I must say, I love it much more than the one that came with the UX32VD. Unlike the stock one that broke, this one does not stick out nearly as far and it does not feel as flimsy, so I doubt it will break as easily. The adapter itself is very slim and streamlined, very light and the addition of a USB port on the brick itself is very nice, now I only have to pack one charger for both my phone and laptop. The charger comes with 4 tips for use on different asus laptops (and they might could work on other brands but haven't tried). There's no light to indicate charging, just a blue light on the brick when it's plugged in, no big deal since I know it's charging in the task bar. Overall, I think for the ~$40 I spent on it, it's way worth getting, even if your stock charger hasn't broken (yet). I must say though, it was hard to find online, this is the charger on Asus's official website: https://www.asus.com/Adapters_Batteries/Slim_65W_Adapter/

Asus didn't have any links on where to buy, and for a while I could only find generic knock-offs on amazon and the like, which I'm sure would be of poorer quality and no included usb port. I finally found the actual Asus brand charger on Datavision for less than $40, here's the link for anyone interested: https://www.datavis.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?prrfnbr=675230

Also, I've posted close-up pictures of the charger for your viewing pleasure:

This thing sure is easy to damage. I've treated it with extreme care, it hasn't left the house yet, yet somehow I got a small dent on the lid.

No, I didn't. I have no idea how it got there. I guess the top is as super thin as the bottom.

I noticed it's very easy to dent the sides, but easy to bend back.

Saw this model of the UX32VD and it looks like a great deal. Lower rez screen, and i5 processor for way less then the normal VD model. I am really considering ordering this and wanted to know what your thoughts were based on your experience so far. Your post is the only mention of this model anywhere on the web so I haven't been able to get any input on it. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Also, have you upgraded the Ram or HHD??

Its been only a month and I am facing various problems.
1)First of all, I see lots of screen bleed in all corners of the screen during start up.
2)I updated all the drivers from asus support and my laptop became very slow to start up, during shut down and also restart.
3)I formatted and reinstalled windows 8 enterprise from my university. The installation was very slow, took almost around 4 hours to complete.during installation I deleted all the partitions and fresh installed. Then, while installing drivers, I could not install Intel Rapid Start and TPM Infineon software.
    4) During shut down, the laptop does not shut down completely. the led light is on in power key and also on side in the headphone light.
    5) I tried to find problem testing each drivers and software downloaded from asus then I found that Intel Rapid storage is the problem. I uninstalled it and also disabled cache for ISSD and now system shut downs completely and system starts up under 15 seconds.
    6) I have changed setting in msconfig to change normal startup to selective start up and selected all the boxes.
7)I have been facing issues like shut down and very slow start up and restart since weeks after I upgraded all drivers and software from asus website. So, to trouble shoot I reinstalled( clean format) OS many times, this is the fourth time.
    8) I remember that I used to see issd drive performance monitor graph before I upgraded. But now, only HDD drive graph shows up. ISSD shows as unallocated and size is 22.37GB. I cannot format nor partition nor do anything with ISSD. I tried many times, many ways but was unsuccessful.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

    Hi All,

Just a quick question. Has anyone upgraded their WiFi card? The Intel Centrino 6235 is quite bad. There are many issues associated with this card.

If you have upgraded the card, which card was it. I know that some cards might have different holes for the antennas. Some might be smaller or larger.

If you have taken out the stock card and replaced it with something much more reliable, please let me know.

    Thanks :)

Very sorry to hear of your problem and also that I can't help. I have not updated a BIOS since my 1st notebook.

I just want to use as an opportunity to suggest BIOS updates can be problematic even in some cases fatal. While less likely currently than back when I did still some risk of brick.

So for all but the thrill seekers and tempters of fate consider why are you updating? What does the new offer? On desktops people do some major hardware swaps and BIOS update might be required to take full advantage. On most notebooks RAM/Drive/CPU/(some GPU) so maybe on that. This model RAM/drive about it don't see much need but OK OS. If no reason why do? Driver updates same advice on will it even help but not the brick risk.

Just a general word of caution not specific to/or criticism of vianna as I have no knowledge of your upgrade circumstance.

Anyone know how difficult it is to remove the top lid? I'd like to try to fix the dent in it.
