I did it as a new installation, I never do upgrades. I messed with it for a week, wiped it and started over, even went back to Windows 7 and still had no luck. I sent it back to Asus for service, it's apparently a hardware problem.

    Hello All
My son owns the above Ultrabook. We had to get the screen replaced and the motherboard replaced.
When the machine came back from the repair shop I noticed it wasn't charging more than 0%. I thought it must be my son's old power adapter. I have sent it to my son overseas. The power problem persists. It says "charging" though is not more than 0%. The machine starts up without problem if you have connected to power. The machine is just 2yrs old.
Has someone an idea what it could be? Before I sent for repairs the power was working without a fault.

    Thanks for any suggestions :)

Does it boot up without being plugged in? If not, I'd say whoever did the work did not connect your battery properly. If it does, then it's a software issue.

No, no power at all without cable. Is it possible that the battery is not connected? Though it says charging?

That would be my guess, yes. I'd send it back to the repair facility, since it sounds like they messed something up.

I wanted to post here in case my experience can help someone else with the same issue. MY UX31 wasn't turning on, and the capslock light was stuck on. No warranty, but i sent it in anyway and ASUS quoted $814 to fix the motherboard. My last resort was to try resetting the solder by giving the motherboard 10 mins in the oven at 200 degrees celsius. after putting it back together it booted up fine, and hasn't randomly reset since! It won't turn on for a while after a complete shutdown, so it's not perfect, but it's at least usable. There's plenty of info online about cooking motherboards so I would definitely recommend it if it's not covered under warranty.

    Hi all,

Just wondering has anyone changed the Battery in these things? If so did you get the same model or are there any batteries that are interchangeable from newer models??

    Thanks!

Cheers for that Meaker, battery on one my colleagues laptop seems to be dying out quick so planing on replacing with OEM. Wanted to see if there was a compatible bigger capacity or better model from one of the newer series before doing so.

Hey guys, hopefully someone can help me here.

Six months ago I cracked my UX31E screen, as expected it cracked along a line and that part of the screen died. I finally got off my butt and pulled it apart to fix it following available resources on the net. eg ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylp_x3VKx2I)

I got my new screen (which is crap as it has a green tinge and is more opaque than the OEM one), put everything back together and the screen worked fine except for one small problem. The backlight LED's are now playing up.

If running on battery power they barely become bright enough to read the screen, lower then the lowest stock brightness setting.

If running on A/C power they become much brighter, on full brightness they are about 70% as bright as they should be. (Also, there now there seems to be a high pitch electrical squealing, which changes pitch according to the brightness setting. I'm assuming this noise is associated with LED Diodes having their frequency modulated with respect to the brightness setting?)

What could have gone wrong to effect the LEDs? I have tried both screens back and forth, the original one although broken is a much better screen. Both are not as bright as they should be.

Why would the maximum brightness change depending on if it is running on battery power or A/C power? Where has this noise come from?

I'm a little lost as where to go next. Please help!

Is the old screen doing the same as the new one now? If so, then I'd say it's a problem with one of the connections or cables. Perhaps they got stressed while you were replacing the screen? (Not saying you weren't careful, just that these things are incredibly easy to mess up)
