I've just got a couple of questions for other owners of the GL702ZC, after spending a couple of days with it.

    - Are your fans always on? Mine are constantly on, and the GPU/CPU idle at around 55c (That's with a repaste to MX-4)
    - At load, my CPU hovers at around 82 degrees, with the GPU being the same. Isn't this pretty high?

This is with a cooling pad too.

No, my fans only come on after use. Like right now, as I write this, they're not on. I idle around 43/44c. Under load, maxed out my CPU is around 79/80 and (undervolted) GPU about 82/83 after hours of heavy usage. What are your ambient temps? What BIOS version are you running.

I'm on the latest BIOS (305) and my ambient temps are around 19/20c. Windows is set to Balanced Mode and the CPU is reducing it's frequency when idle, as is the GPU.

Here are my quick tests in attached files.
Ambient temp - 25C, bios 305, AMD Ryzen Balanced power plan, +20% fan curve.

Morning! Thank you for running those tests - It does indeed seem like my GL702ZC is running much hotter than it should, especially given that it's got a cooling pad and has had a repaste!

How did you go about setting up the +20% fan curve, that could be the thing my laptop needs (Although I imagine it's pretty damn loud?)

Just run ROG Gaming Center and change Fan Boost (bottom left corner).

    P.S.
It's not loud, fan is at 2300rpm according to ROG Gaming Center.

I have a question. Were is the "Ryzen Balanced" power plan located? I keep it on regular Windows 'Balanced" plan; even gaming. And "Power saving" while web-browsing, everything else. I only show the three usual Windows power options. Finally, will it make much of a difference? Thank you in advance for your anticipated feedback.

Typically, my GPU runs a little hotter than the CPU. Yours seems opposite.

Haven't updated to the new BIOS (305) yet, is there any reason why i shouldn't?

I'm having the exact same issue, 2000MHz max out - although in task manager it says i;m using 4% of the GPU (??) Anyway, I don't suppose you've got around to making the list of all the things that should be disabled and where? Would be really handy, for me obviously, but also for anyone else who experiences the issue.

You have to install Ryzen Balanced Power Plan. It is included in newest AMD Chipset drivers - just install it.
It makes a difference. Actually it's scheduler tweak i think. Something like https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/601828/how_the_windows_high_performance_mode_is_limiting/

I don't know why but the other one of mine GL702ZCs has it too. I think it can be low GPU ASIC Quality. Just check it in GPU-Z.

Hello, just got the laptop today at 950 euro and I LOVE IT ! Best choice ever, thank you guys. Used it for like 3 hours (windows updates / drivers / bios update / downloading games and some softwares) and the fan was silent, i couldn't even hear it ... first i tought that the machine was broken or something, because you guys said it sounds like a JET PLANE. I put the fans on max just to see if they work and the JET PLANE came to life, then put them back to auto and silent again. Flawless devicem just need to add a ssd and 8gb ram and i'm set.
    Thank you again !
P.S : could not find amd balanced power plan, even i updated the chipsed driver to the last one (tried even the beta one/heard that they included into windows but i didn't get the creator update, heard it will ruin everything). Do you have any tips ? Thank you in advance!

    Hello guys and girls,

I've been stalking the thread for quiet a bit. So the undervolting was a fiasco for me neither the ryzen master or the unlocked wattman did it, and with Afterburner it's just not stable for me, i abandoned this path altogether. Ryzen master doesn't do jack except enable disable cores, 3 core phenom for the win :) and unlocked watman using the afterburner trick just doesn't set anything.

Congrats subcarpati for the lappy, i think we bought the same model mine is the r5 1600 with 8gb of ram and the HDD i had to immediatly swap for an SSD an NVME one, this one was bought in april.

I heard some repaste stories here but the service guys just refused to do that when i mounted the m2 (I want to keep my warranty even though i am tech savy, i do value the warranty).Instead i set up a custom cooling pad with 3x92 mm noctua fans(2 blowing from beneath with window isolation rubber strapped under to force air into and another one between the exhaust fans) and that is my means to keep it cool, in mass effect andromeda my processor sits at 64 degrees C and the GPU at 72 C and i am running at 50% boost, in auto mode even my old sony let itself till 79 degrees celsius but i don't really feel safe with this one, besides it would cook my SSD which already sits at ~60 degrees C.

Now here is my issue i am upgrading the memory and swapping in the old SATA 3 SSD(Hyper X 480 GB MLC version with a sandforce controller) from my old lappy. Did any of you did some upgrades on the memory front? I saw that the crucial single ranked 2666 MHz memory is cheaper, and since the service advised me to go with the 2400 Mhz one did any of you upgrade? If yes did any of you use the 2666 MHz version? I will contact ASUS support about this as well but since they said in a mail that i can upgrade the HDD and memory myself and the etailer eMAG said "oh hell no" i just want to see what is possible in practice.

    thanks.

PS: I am the only one that feels that it can boil eggs on the lappy around the middle F keys during serious load?

I just updated the chipset and a few other drivers from the ASUS site. Still no 'Ryzen Balanced' power option. Am I looking in the wrong place? With the other power options and plans?
