Pretty much all this topic has talked about.
In short, only on Win 7, latest versions work okay on Win 8 above 75% brightness.

So, it doesn't work on win7 right?

In other words, has someone tested lastest amd driver on windows 7 and managed to control the backlight?

I really appreciate the job you've done here bro, thanks!!!!! People please keep up the good work, and lets get this pal as updated as possible... By the way the graphic driver is a disappointing issue we all have! 13.4! and not getting any more update! every driver I installed after that comes up with black screen, such a shame for asus and amd! some one has to fix this! :(

Hey has anyone else ran into the issue where the USB 3.0 port won't function at 3.0 speeds?
Whenever I plug a device in there I get the "This device can perform faster, if you connect it to a superspeed 3.0 port" (It is definitely the blue slot!)
Drivers seem to be up to date but wondering if I've stuffed up somewhere along the line...

I would uninstall the driver and reinstall (think it's called USB 3.0 NEC).

And make sure the USB 3.0 NEC is checked on your startup items.

Lastly if using windows 8/8.1 make sure you installed all updates.

    Hello again,
I've a question: I'd like to update to an SSD, is it possible to replace the wireless internal card for a mSata hard drive? The connector has the same shape and I was wondering if it was possible to make this update or not. Many thanks in advance.
PS: ok, I just read that PCI-express connectors are not compatible with mSata ones (much newer), just in some cases and I think in 2010 this was not still possible...

Hello everybody, long time no see... ;)
Bookmarked this topic (old one) long time ago, on 2010th, and I am returning after 4 years now, didn't need new drivers in all this time, my WIN 7 was working great since then.

It was working really good till 2-3 weeks ago, since when my system slowed down rapidly.
I thought it was time to bring back Acronis incremental image from 2013th, first I tried to verify the backup file, when my hdd "died"...

I gave hdd in repair today, I mean for data recovery if possible, bought new hdd and now I am installing fresh OS again. That's why I am back again... :)

After this long intro :D, main question.
These drivers are valid for N71J also, correct? It has the same hardware as I remember?
I remember bookmarking this topis for driver purpose...

On Asus Support page, there are a lot more drivers than posted here (on first page).
Bluetooth driver is missing, other important drivers (I suppose they are important) are under "Others" on asus support page.

    Those are:
    -Intel(R)_Management_Engine_Interface
    -IntelR Turbo Boost Technology Driver
    -Intel Matrix Storage Manager
-Keyboard Device Filter Utility (not sure what this is, others are easy to guess)

    Don't you use/install these?

A lot of other drivers under "Utilities", but those are bloatware, not needed I guess.
Are you using some of the Utilities, which one?
Which camera N71JQ has, I downloaded Bison camera?

Also, on Asus official page, some EMI and Safety drivers.
    What are those for?
    Thanks...

The solution for the black screen (asus n61jq, Windows 7 64bit) using up-to-date catalyst is here:

    http://forums.amd.com/game/messagev...=173454&STARTPAGE=2&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

after creating this dword in the registry:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000]
    "KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2"=dword:00000001

I correctly installed 14.12 omega catalyst!! love to this guy

Can anybody else confirm that this works? I would love to get the updated Driver for our GPU. But I usually have bad luck getting new drivers, and would like some more insurance.

Btw, Dalen85, that link doesn't work. I tried to view it and see the tutorial. I'm not sure what a dword is or how to create one in the registry.

I can confirm it. I'm playing GTA V on a similar laptop model with the same layout and graphics chip with no graphical issues, however the backlight doesn't like to go below ~65% brightness. I'm using the latest beta drivers, 15.4.1, and I've posted a tutorial in the N61JQ Owners Lounge.

    Edit: CurrentControlSet is usually ControlSet001

Sounds like a good update. And it looks like they released a 15.5 Beta Update today, so I'm going to try that.

Can your laptop run GTA 5 pretty well? Or not really?

GTA V is running smoother after the driver update. I have everything turned down to Minimum as GTA V is trying to hit the 1GB VRAM mark even on min settings (931MB) and because this laptop model has a 1.6GHz AMD Quad-core... not the best for running new games with. :p I have some framerate issues thar are because of my model's CPU bottleneck, any N61JQ with an i7 or upgraded i7 should be fine.

I think a few games are running better with the new drivers.

Counter Strike GO was about the same. But Modern Warfare 2 and 3 can be maxed out now usually at 50-60 FPS, maybe a drop to 40 FPS.

Batman Arkham Asylum and City seem to be running better as well with shadows and lighting enabled at 45-60 FPS.

Sorry to show my absolute lack of knowledge guys, but having just reinstalled the operating system for Windows 7 64, on my ASUS N61JQ laptop, I'm wanting to update drivers for the chipset, GPU and USB3.

I've looked at the lists of drivers provided here, and I'm confused. I'm sure that I don't just select the latest drivers in each category I'm after, and install, or do I?

If I need to supply specific information re the hardware in my laptop, what is it, and where's the best way to find this info?

The laptop seems to be working fine, but if updating the drivers is going to help then I'm happy to do so. But I don't want to just guess what I need, and screw everything up.

    Look forward to some advice.

    Cheers Ron

Hey guys whats up, thanks for sharing about that registry key! It helps me a lot, specially about gta v though, 15.5 beta and most important .net framework 4.5.2, because before installing .net my fps was about 20 and after that it goes to 30!!! Can you believe this???! ASUSN61jq still rocks!

    Hi Ron
Hope you doing fine, let me be honest with you updating drivers is a good thing but not in our case as owners of N61jq, so why is that? Because I've tried everything to be as updated as possible even on windows 7 ( windows 8 never worked for me, I always had problems like hanging black page and etc.) but I experienced lack of performance so I decided to update the necessary drivers (1-realtek r278 2-amd 15.5 beta 3-atheros Ar8131 v2.1.0.21 4-atheros Ar9285 v10.0.0.313 and thats all!) and its working great.
So my advice is try to avoid updating other drivers like turbo boost or rapid storage tech or etc because I've been there and done that... The basic drivers in Asus dvd are great enough and to be more clear here is what looks like inside my windows 7
    Hope it helps

Thanks for the advice mate, saves me hours of grief installing stuff that doesn't work, and screwing my clean install up. Most appreciated.

As you are obviously skilled in this area, can you give me a heads up, for sites where I can safely download these drivers. I'm more than a bit sceptical of just downloading a driver from a Google search.

    Hi guys,

If you are interested in installing Windows 10 on N61JQ. Here's what driver works:-

Asus ATK package Windows 10 64bit
    http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=ATKPackage&hashedid=n/a

    Elantech Touchpad Drivers
Version 8.0.7.0 (take the Windows 8.1 drivers), on page 1

Renesas/NEC USB 3.0 Firmware model version (uPD720200) for ASUS N61JQ series.
    Version 3.0.34 WHQL

On page 1 of this thread
The default Renesas drivers doesn't work on Windows 10, your USB3 port will be unable to recognise ANY USB devices plugged to it.

RealTek Audio Driver with SRS Premium Sound
Use the Windows 10 driver from windows update for Realtek
Unsure where to get SRS Premium added.

Another link for getting the driver
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=3&GetDown=false#High Definition Audio Codecs

    Web Cam Driver
Lastly I have a Azurewave webcam, none of the Asus drivers will work on page one. The default Webcam driver from Microsoft flips the camera. Tried all versions the error is "something went wrong. Another app might be using the device". The same was happening on Windows 8.1

    http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Camera&p=3&os=30

    Intel Chipset Drivers
Not needed Windows 10 comes with these

Any clues to fix the webcam? (yes I have tried the registry but no such setting as flip) this key doesn't exist HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\0000\Settings

Would be nice to know how to get SRS premium addon

I cannot confirm this SRS control panel realtek driver will work as it was for another ASUS laptop when Windows 8 was released but it does have the SRS Premium Control panel included. (Which is now the DTS Premium Control Panel in newer devices since SRS has been aquired by DTS.)

Worth a shot, but not guaranteed to do anything: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8/Audio/Audio_Realtek_Win8_64_VER6016937.zip

Can confirm it contains the control panel IF it works, however. Resource hacker is handy.

Edit: As for fixing the webcam driver, that registry entry does not exist as you are not using the stock driver made by SONIX and provided by ASUS for Win 7. However, that registry key is a clue.

In the driver details of the webcam in Win 7, the option Driver Key gives the value
{6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}\0000 This matches up with the value you were looking for. My guess is that the driver settings for the Windows driver you currently have installed has changed to the location of the new driver key value found under Device Manager -> Imaging Devices -> (Webcam) -> Properties -> Details Tab -> Driver Key. As such the registry entry you are looking for would be under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\*NEW DRIVER KEY HERE*\[Settings(?)]

A flip value should be located around that area.

Hi Photon-Phoenix, that definitely helps I will see how I go with the above. I originally thought that because I do not have the ASUS webcam driver installed, and right now using the native webcam driver from Microsoft that's why I do not see that registry key to allow me to change the flip value.

Much appreciated with your suggestions. I will give it a shot!

Webcam, what I found under Device Manager -> Imaging Devices -> (Webcam) -> Properties -> Details Tab -> Driver Key is:
    {6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}

In registry, I can see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}\0000 folder. But there's no value such as "Setting" or any tree under 0000 folder. So there's no value for "Flip", the key doesn't exist.

Since this is the generic Windows 10 USB Webcam driver I'm not sure if that Flip key or settings folder exist. It has other values inside \0000. See below.

As for the Realtek SRS Premium. No it doesn't seem to install using that package. So I think I will just leave it as is. It's good enough

The /0000 folder seems to give the description of what the driver is, much like it does with the SONIX Win 7 driver.

Could you take screenshots of the contents of Configuration, Instance, Variables, Properties and the subfolders of Variables? You may find what you're looking for there. (And Properties may give an error about being inaccessable, if so, skip the Properties folder.) Configuration is sometimes the settings folder as well as Variables. This is a different driver so the location of options are different, but they're definitely in the place you're currently looking.

Edit: Having backtracked in the thread I now see the 65% Brightness issue is seemingly generic fault for N61Jq architecture. Tracked back to Photon-Phoenix's advise
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/asus-n61jq-owners-lounge.456659/page-940#post-10013379
Has anyone success in editing the latest drivers 15.200.1046.2 from AMD using the method outlined?
Not having ever used Registry Edit before, I would appreciate any advise in that regard!

    -------------------
Is anyone with Win 10 (64bit) installed on a N61Jq having problems with their ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000 graphics card?
If I adjust Brightness below 65% it goes to total Dark Screen - no scaling beyond that - found out by tapping the tile in Action Centre! D'oh
It was a problem shortly after doing a clean intall of Win 10 and is still an issue after Window Update installed the latest AMD/ATI driver 15.200.1046.2 dated 15/07/2015
The notebook FN keys can adjust Brightness
The basic Microsoft Driver has no issues.
Is it a Win 10/driver issue or my hardware ?

After doing a bit of searching, the driver mentioned there is a Fujitsu camera driver for Azureware/Sonix cameras which had to be installed by running the snp2uvc.inf file in the Driver folder of the package. What is not stated however is what model that ASUS laptop is, so the chance of it working is 50/50 but worth a shot. Driver manager may need to be used to manually install the driver.

The package listed in that thread can found here: http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/downl...wareGUID=944783CF-D084-4DB1-88A3-D53E0F2A15EA

If installation is successful, the registry would need to be edited for the flip value as it will still show an upside down video otherwise. Our flipped camera problem is caused by ASUS physically installing the camera upside down.

Any chance you could advise how to run the .inf file and then manually install the driver?

Again, could you outine how to open the registry file, search for the Flip 'string' edit and save

    Us Noobs would appreciate it!

To run the .inf file, all you would need to do is double click it. This should install the driver unless there is an error. As for device/driver manager if the inf file gave an error during installation or you just want to check the installed driver of the webcam, right click This PC or My Computer and select manage. In the left panel, click device manager. From device manager, find imaging devices then open the tree. Your webcam should be located here. To check the installed driver, right click the webcam and select properties then go to the driver tab in the window that appears. If installed correctly, the driver version should be exactly or close to 6.0.1223.1 and manufactured by Sonix or Fujitsu. (I have not installed this driver so I don't know pin point specifics of what it will output.) If not, right click your webcamera and select "Update driver". Select browse for driver software. Point the browser to the folder containing the driver package then hit next. This should install the drivers.

As for the registry, do a search in your start menu (or the cortana bar) for regedit.exe. This will open up an editor for your computer's registry. You navigate this just as you would windows explorer's folder view. From here, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}\0000\

In the \0000\ "folder" there should be two other "folders" named Settings and DefaultSettings. Find the values named "Flip" in both of these folders and right click them and hit "modifiy" and set it to 1. No need for saving as all edits are saved automatically. Exit regedit.exe and test your webcam. If no changes are seen, restart your computer and try again, sometimes registry and driver edits need a reboot.

Was able to locate/modify the Flip values, .. But my Camera app returned "Something went wrong" etc

Anybody got a good ATK On screen display driver? When I switch power options, I don't see an icon to help me know which power plan i'm on. And when I switch displays (Laptop LCD and HDMI), it doesn't show an icon to which I'm switching too.

Windows 7 started to crash and burn on me since it wouldn't kill processes anymore and after 2 days of being on it would lock up. Updated to Windows 10 tonight and it seems Windows 10 has had some compatibility fixes in the past month as I'm currently running Realtek 6.0.1.6662 drivers with SRS Premium sound enabled. These drivers were auto detected.

    upload_2015-9-4_3-43-56.png

Doing a quick search, I've found these exact drivers here:

    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/Audio/Audio_Realtek_Win7_64_Z6016662.zip

It seems the stock Windows 7 ControlDeck.exe works for on-screen notification of Fn keys such as switching displays and power settings

    upload_2015-9-4_3-45-20.png

Edit: Maybe not stock, I'll try and find the correct version.
Edit2: Found the ATK package version my laptop uses. It's not controldeck based but has the same icons and purpose.

    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/ATKPackage/ATKPackage_WIN7_32_WIN7_64_z100004.zip

This is V1.0.0004, a list of all versions can be found here incase a different version is needed (early window 8 ASUS laptops used V1.0.0005 and V1.0.0006):

    http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ATK_package&os=30

There seems to be a package on the first post of this thread as well.

Also, proof of Windows 10 incase anyone was offput by the colored title bars, which are a small Windows 10 tweak:

    upload_2015-9-4_3-47-34.png

My Webcam driver is working as well, flipped the correct direction. As Ashley stated:

    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb...amera_Azurewave_VS010_Win7_64_Z5855133208.zip

These drivers seem to work properly when extracted and PNPINST64.exe is ran. I didn't have to edit the registry either.

Currently I have a problem where I can't turn on and off my touchpad using the Fn-F9 key. Small gripe since there's an option to turn off the touchpad if a USB mouse is inserted and enable it when it's removed automatically but still...

I don't use the SRS at all. I believe I got working RealTek drivers from the actual RealTek site, which works awesomely.

I'm definitely going to use try those ATK Drivers you posted, Photon-Phoenix. My FN keys work, but I don't get the OSD when I switch displays.

I have the same problem with turning off the touchpad with the FN key. I got a working driver, which I think was from the first post of this thread, which was working great. But Windows 10 would install over it with an update and use their more generic driver. But like you said, it's not that big of a problem, since luckily we can still have the option to disable it when a USB mouse is plugged in.

Btw, can you link the tweak to get the colored bars on Windows 10? I love the design for Windows 10, but the white bars are just ugly.

Make sure your wireless/bluetooth device is switched on (usually a switch or keyboard combo).

Dear ASUS N61JQ users. I'm a bit confused about the current graphic driver version. I'm using Windows7 with Catalyst 13.4, and some new games are keep telling me that my graphic driver is old. Which version of Catalyst is the latest and stable for our laptop? (without blackscreen issue)

I have an Asus N61jq computer and recently added extra RAM and although its an old laptop, it performance very well.

Back in April, I upgraded to Windows 10. Everything works fine. A few days later I get this blue screen:
containing the error code VIDEO DXGKRNL FARAL ERROR. I was unable to load the windows desktop. I rolled back to windows 7 and everything was fine.

Mid July, I again upgraded to Windows 10. Everything was working fine. After two weeks, I went on a 3 week holiday. When I came back again the same error. Unfortunately now I can not roll back to windows 7 since 30 days have passed.

I am stuck in this blue screen and can for example not disable or upgrade any video drivers. Any ideas how to fix this?

I recently had to reinstall windows 7 and update all the drivers. I had trouble to install the video drivers Catalyst 13.4 due to the driver's signature being unexplainably unrecognized. So I tried to install the Radeon Crimsom drivers 16.2.1 (non-whql-64bit-nieg-radeon-crimson-16.2.1-win10-win8.1-win7-feb27 from AMD website) and succeeded. To fix the black screen problem I applied the backlight fix from Shpati, setting "KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2" to "1". My Windows score for GPU and graphics increased both to 6.9.

Do you still have the recovery DVDs with Windows 7? You may try using those to get back Win 7 by doing a factory reset, hoping that there won't be license activation issues.
