That was exactly the reason why I investigated further into this. The processor does support 16GB but Asus site states that the total amount of memory is upgradeable only up to 8GB. So I was under the impression it was some kind of motherboard limitation.
I went even one step further, I contacted Asus support asking them to confirm if my laptop can handle more than 8GB of total ram or not and they responded negatively!
It seems to me that we're victims of their product support neglect. And this is not the only laptop that can handle more ram than they state. I've also found owners of other Asus laptops saying they successfully upgraded their ram even though it seemed impossible according to Asus.

MB BIOS plays another role with memory compatibility, which could potentially not supporting it but rarely happens nowadays. -
well I might be resurrecting an old thread but here goes:
I own an ASUS N55SF-S1124V, I really had no problems with it since June, 2012 (when I bought it), apart from minor issues with some bloatware (which I removed) and some easy fix sound driver hiccups I was very happy with it, I took it apart after 2 years (warranty ended) to clean it (couple of times ever few months, dusting, fan etc.) since I noticed it heating up when playing games or using GPU/CPU intensively (up to 90-92°C).
After that it dropped to manageable 68-70°C. which I guess was ok, since it is a laptop.
Now few weeks back I decided to buy an SSD, and that was a perfect opportunity to take it apart as a whole and dust it again plus replace the thermal paste since it has begun to heat up again (70-72°C in idle desktop, and 89-93°C games, mainly HotS and Dota2 with fps dropping on medium details with 1920*1080 to 10-20 fps) .
So i took everything off and replaced the thermal paste (used Arctic MX-4), cleaned it all (dry cleaned with small paint brush all the dust and air compressor). After assembling everything back in order, and reinstalling all (I used a clean image I had from a previous disk - 750gb WD black that came with it) updated all drivers to the current ones ( June 12th ), the heating problem still persists, its been 3 days now and I still have temperatures up to 90°C and low fps when running games (well two so far, HotS/Dota2. Same settings as before) and programs while idle temps have dropped a bit (around 65°C) it still boggles me what is going on? Any advice? Is my GPU simply dying? Maybe replace the heat-sink?
edit: Also my BioS is up to date (according to ASUS anyway, .207 - which is from 2011 i know ) -
Mine is N55SF-SX192 with 2630QM processor and it requires cleaning more than once a year. But I found a quick solution to reduce the temperatures by spraying compressed air into the main air outtake hole while the laptop is working. By doing this occasionally, I am able to expel the majority of the dust from the laptop and reduce the temperatures.
Now, back to your question. I use Arctic MX-2 which is similar to yours. Some people on the internet reported that MX-4 gave them 3-4 degrees higher temperatures than MX-2. Maybe it was a bad batch.
But, after using MX-2 on mine, I was able to reduce maximum CPU temperatures from 94C to 86C while gaming. However, the temperatures gradually begin to rise as time passes. On idle (no programs started), right after applying the MX-2 paste, all processor cores were at 41-45C. With Chrome, FF and some other programs, the cores are between 48-54C, GPU is 44C.
When playing youtube video in 720p, CPU cores are 57-61C.
Now after a few months, I'm hitting 92C when playing games. But if you added SSD, it also influences CPU temperature when it's being read/written to. The system requires more processor power since it's receiving data from the SSD more quickly than hard disk.
Check if you tightened the heatsink to the GPU and CPU properly. -
I was really extra careful with the heat-sink screws (kinda paranoid would be better description).
I never thought tbh SSD would influence CPU/GPU heat levels so much but makes sense tbh, maybe replace it with the stock one and see how it behaves for a few days. (I still have the old wd scorpio with installation intact so that wouldn't be a problem, 2 min job).
I have a nagging feeling I need to take it apart again and recheck everything (this being my first laptop, I avoided them so much because they're a pain to take apart, but had to get one due to job/college needs.)
Thanks for the MX-4 heads up, ill look into that, altho I really doubt it would be this bad (I know it would take some time for the paste do its thing but this is ridiculous, plus it was new, literally out of the box) -
Has anyone here used Win 8 or 10 with this and had OS not detect sound card? All works fine under Win 7.

Is it just not appearing in device manager?

Everything I know about this: http://www.eightforums.com/sound-au...pro-n-no-audio-devices-installed-realtek.html
Pretty sure it happens with all versions of Win 8 (I tried Pro and Enterprise) and Win 10 -
Hi, ive ran into a problem. i disassembled the laptop to clean out the fan, and now, my network adapter is being a b. wifi is working fine with the tablet, but on laptop it is at best 1 bar, and usually it just does not connect or finds no networks. whats thedeal? i imagine there are no cable or hardware problems, cause device manager finds nothing. could it be something with settings? i did not meddle with them, so i have no idea what to do.

You may have not plugged the antennae correctly back into the wireless card, it would function but the signal would be very poor, check to see if they clicked back in properly.

Hello, i still own this laptop it still rocks!
I'm planing to upgrade my hard disk with: Samsung 850 EVO 120GB SATA3 SSD, (3D V-NAND) is it compatible with n55sf?
Also i saw that it supports 16gb of ram and i saw 1866 speed 16gb of ram is it compatible with it too? ( The most important thing that it will run at 1866 or 1333 or 1600?
Thanks
i'm sorry for double posting but i'm unable to edit my post, i want to know if the ram will run at 1866 or 1333 or 1600?
Thanks! -
Check answer nr.5 from JoTown. When the disk is formatted as GPT (as UEFI Boot), the sound card is not recognised. When booting normally in MBR mode, Win 10 found the audio card drivers normally. It seems that the UEFI boot in Asus N55SF is somehow broken. This was the solution that worked in my case.
Hope this helps,

Hi all, I had N55SF for a while now, upgraded to win 7 then win10. It becomes unbearably slow now and it's causing me to lose my will to live. It used to be quite fast for a laptop, but also had this wee program speeding up processor when required. I can't find it anywhere now and it just seems to be choking up regularly even when not performing any demanding tasks. I don't have many programs installed and plenty of disk space too.
Edit: It took me literally 9 minutes to even get to editing this post while Football Manager 2017 is calculating some games results in the background. CPU usage is at 10-12%, nowhere near 100% which could maybe explain this performance issues, memory at around 70%, disk and network at 0-1%. This is ridiculos. How can this be happening? This laptop is unuseable.
Can anyone tell me what can I do speed this thing up or it goes out the window and I'm never going back to asus laptops again. Thanks.Last edited: Oct 19, 2017 -

Hi all,
Which would be the proud descendant of the Asus N55SF in terms of its amazing Band & Olufsen sound ?
I've created a thread here to talk about it : http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...5sf-it-had-amazing-bang-olufsen-sound.837539/
Cheers mates
