Please help -- Im getting all kinds of flickering green and red pixels on my N53SN. Its a quad core i7 model with 8bg ram and a GT550M GPU. The GPU drivers are the latest from NVidia and this problem has been getting steadily worse. When I use CPUID HWMonitor, there is no GPU temp listed, but all temps are under 45C. With speedfan, GPU is listed as "0C" but all temps are under 45C.

Is the card overheating and just needs new paste, or is this a lost cause? Are replacement cards even available?

It could be the soldered gpu is damaged. What happens if you uninstall the graphics drivers and don't run with any? Do external monitors have the same issue?

I tried uninstalling the drivers for the Nvidia card and for the Intel integrated graphics but the problem persists. HOWEVER, there do not seem to be any artifacts when I use an external monitor through HDMI. I do not know if the HDMI port is run through the dedicated nvidia card or the integrated intel card.

For what its worth, my computer is also telling me that the battery is going back and I should consider replacing it. HWMonitor says the battery wear level is at 60%

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this issue? The picture is fine through HDMI, but a total mess on the built in monitor. Could the screen be bad? Do I need a new battery? Should I reinstall Windows?

    Hello guys,

I planned to upgrade the RAM, since I'll begin working soon with heavy software.
    Mine is an N53SV with i7 - 2670QM / GT540M 2GB
I looked at the following RAM modules:
I would like your opinions. Thank you very much!

It works great. I've been running it on this machine since the first insider preview.

If you do a clean install after the upgrade install, you will be left with a few missing devices in Device Manager (Intel Video, NVidia Video, Fresno USB 3). However, Windows Update will install these for you.

I've been running it and encountered a problem with the HD audio interface. Had to disable it for the install of Win10, but now win10 won't boot if I enable it again in the BIOS. Haven't figured it out yet, but hope I will, coze right now no sound and that sucks!! Anyone else had this problem?

Was just wondering if I can pick your brain on something, since you have almost the same laptop as I do(Asusn53s sz016v in my case).
I have currently running Win10 on a Samsun 850evo ssd formated in GPT and, as it looks, it's running (u)efi as well since last week when I upgraded to a SSD. You think this might have something to do with the fact that now HD audio interface is interferering with Windows boot?

    Hi Timtwist,

I wouldn't think so, but I can't say this definitively. My advice would be to get your current Windows 10 key from your activated install and then perform a CLEAN INSTALL. Although I ran through 6-7 upgrades during the insider preview program, there were a few anomalies which I'm not seeing on my current clean install. I've always advocated this type of install when possible, so if you were to try this now I suspect your audio issue would go away. This is the first OS that Microsoft has released that will leave our machines without any yellow exclamation icons in Device Manger after an install so there shouldn't be any concern about this type of installation.

Here is a good guide to follow for a clean install:

    Thanks,
You mean I won't need anything from ASUS?
Even Fn keys like brightness control or volume control will work?
Or touch pad's multi touch functionalities?

    Hi Yousef,

I don't use any of those features so I just tested some of them. The Fn-Brightness brought up the brightness control, but it only moved a couple of notches and then stopped. The Fn-Volume control doesn't seem to move the volume level. I don't use, or know how to use multi-touch gestures on the touchpad. However, the Elan drives is installed and there is a related applet installed.

Now, if you upgrade from a working system (ie with all these features installed), more than likely these features will run as they will come across with the upgrade. However, I still feel you would be better off performing a clean install after the upgrade and then installing whatever Asus utilities, 3rd party drivers you want enhance the OOB Windows 10 install.

I mean, I dont know how but skype recognized it yesterday, but now it just wont work, didnt show up on my devices. So I tried to unninstall the driver by downloading a "new" (lol) one from asus site and unninstalled it. But now, when I try to install that driver I just get an error.

It just says on top of the window "Error" and bellow has the name of the camera and that's it. I've tried every driver known to man LOL can anyone help me?

Does win 10 still run good on the ASUS N53SV for everyone?
I'm having real trouble to run after the large november update which also pushes a 540M WDDM 2.0 update.

On this link http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034343.htm it also states the Intel Core i7-2630QM isn't supported by windows 10.

If you are running Windows 10 succesfully on the ASUS N53SV please point me the correct nvidia and intel driver please.

    Hi guys,

Got a major problem with the Nvidia GT 550M GPU on my N53SN (full spec in my sig)

At the most I can get the chip enabled and the blue light indicator will come on.
If I attempt to use the GPU I either get a BSOD or if i'm lucky a driver failure notification and the blue light turns white.

The only positive thing I'm able to do with the GPU is use Nvinspector and the Nvidia control panel (sometimes). However, even this causes the GPU to erratically keep switching backwards and forwards between the blue and white indicator light, like it's not really sure what it wants to do.

Since the 550M causes random BSOD on occasion without doing anything with it, I have disabled the 550M in the device manager for now so I can at least have some peace using my laptop.

So far I've tried earlier BIOS flashes - No luck, so back to using the latest v.209 from ASUS.
Tried many different releases of earlier supported Nvidia drivers and different driver installation configurations.
Tried original drivers from the installation disc
    Tried Windows 7 & 8.1 (using Win10 now)
Tried re-pasting the chip and CPU

From what i'm gathering by searching through different forums including this one, it seems to be some sort of a voltage, kernel or optimus issue.
But this is just above the limit of my aptitude, so I don't know if that means there's some sort of an Nvidia BIOS flash update solution, modified driver or if it means that
i'm completely out of luck with this particular 550M graphics processor.

Is there anybody who can point me in the right direction?

This kind of issue usually suggests the chip has failed, getting the GPU chip reballed is the best bet at a repair.

My wife has had some issues with her ASUS N53SV-EH71 laptop, and long story short, I'm going to swap out the HDD with a new SSD, and do a clean install of Windows 7, and leave all the unneeded crap off, that was originally installed. I did this on my cheap ASUS A53E, that I use for Exede installs, and can't remember how I figured out the bare minimum, as far as drivers.
This is the list of drivers for the laptop
    http://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/N53SV/HelpDesk_Downl...

Can anyone tell me exactly which drivers I "need", while avoiding some of the useless stuff ASUS installs.

Also....should I update the BIOS, since we never have? And it may help with the BSOD and freezing issues she's been having. From experience, an SSD is the single biggest gift a person can give their laptop, and though it may not solve her issues as they could be BIOS related it's still a no brainer, as far as an upgrade.

All that said, if the consensus is that I should update the BIOS, what does that entail, as I've never done it. I built a computer a few years ago, and been inside a few, so while by no means an "expert", I'm also not afraid of this type of, if it's straight forward, and low rick. Especially when it's the wife's laptop, not mine. [IMG]

    Thanks, in advance!

Just want to chime in about my n53sn. It's been a great ride and I am still using this thing.

The battery may be inadequate nowadays (3-4 hours on low power mode) but the laptop is still powerful. Intel hasn't made any improvements since Sandy Bridge, except for some energy efficiency. So if I am going to buy a new laptop today it's either gonna be a lowly powered dual core ultrabook edition i7 or a quad core i7 that's only 20% better at most. So I still won't buy a new laptop until AMD puts some competition towards intel or if my laptop dies.

So far I've upgraded my laptop with two SSDs (one which replaces the cd drive which almost no one ever uses today) and extra 6 gigabytes of ram from a dead n53sn of my parents. Also upgraded to windows 10 which reduces the need to install drivers by hand. I've only done the manual installation of Power4Gear and Nvidia drivers because they didn't came automatically with the updates.

Had this laptop since 2011 and it's still in good shape. My future plan will be to get a 9 cell battery for extra longevity. I've learned quite a lot during these years like usb3 external drives not going fast because it had a bottleneck by my initial sata2 hard drive.

I hope you guys good luck with your n53s.

My Windows 10 x64 experience so far.

Already upgrade Windows 10 onto N53SV(sandybridge) from a clean Windows 7 Home premium (no drivers installed). Working smootly so far.

    For the important drivers:

Chipset and graphic Intel HD3000. Use windows update or manually install from device manager-> upgrade driver and choose update from search on web. Windows will choose correct drivers.

Realtek High definition Audio: Windows update

Touchpad Elantech. Use Windows update, i'm not sure, think that autoinstalled this on my case.

Nvidia Graphics. Use Nvidia website to download latest for windows 10, important prior install HD3000 so Optimus will work good.

Others: I use the drivers here http://ivanrf.com/en/latest-asus-drivers-for-windows-10 for the next:

ATK Package( for hotkeys keyboard): http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps_for_Win10/ATKPackage/ATKPackage_Win10_64_VER100047.zip

    Power4GearHybrid: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb...earHybrid/Power4GearHybrid_Win8_64_VER308.zip

    ToDo:

    LAN
WLAN: working from Windows Update with no LED functionality(the one below touchpad)

My screen is the 1366, can I just drop in the 1900 resolution screen? Which model/part number should I be searching for to do so? Thanks!

Some have done this in the past, but you'd have to replace LVDS cable with Full HD one. Take a look at elbolo's posts:
    Screen
    Cable

    ASUS parts
    (ebay is likely cheaper)

Looking on ebay, the standard WXGA 1366 screens are less than $50, but I can only find sellers in UK selling the FHD panel at double the cost, and it appears none of them ship to the USA:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ASUS-N5...-LED-SCREEN-/400263993425?hash=item5d3197d851

Anyone got any ideas? I couldnt even find this part using the ebay US site, I had to go through the italian link in elbolo's posts and then change the URL to ebay.com. Upon doing so, I see that the seller in the UK doesnt ship to the US. Is the new screen even worth double the cost?

Is anyone having trouble with the 6230 card they swapped in? Mine is constantly dropping the connection, losing connectivity after wake, and requires the use of the troubleshooter to start/restart the adapter to get function back. I have tried the newest intel software as well as the oldest intel standalone driver and continue to see this issue. Is it really the case that wifi cards will only work with the hardware vendor they were initially configured for? Should I go with a different card, like the 6235? Or do I need to find a card pulled from an ASUS laptop specifically?
