    Hi, all.

I could use some direction. I'm re-installing the OS (Win 7 Pro) on my N53SV-DH72 and and some of the driver versions have changed. The one I'm concerned about is the Intel HD3000 driver. Asus support website has 2 available (one obviously is the latest), Windows 7 update has a later one available and the Intel website has an even later one available. Did Asus tweak their Intel driver for the HD3000 and if not, which driver is safe to install? Thanks for any help in advance.

    Slipstream55--
Not sure what your specs are, but for what it's worth, I'm using the HD3000 driver from the Intel website, igdumd64 9.17.10.2932/Win7 64, which was the newest last time I checked, back in June. It has not given me any problems these past few months. I did almost roll it back several times, thinking it was restricting performance of my NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M, but discovered every time that it was my own knowledge that was restricted.
I've also been updating to the newest NVIDIA beta drivers consistently for the past six months or so, again without problems--and I do tend to push my system. So far nvlddmkm 9.18.13.3140 (ForceWare 331.40)/Win7 64 is fine
Just make sure you take the time to examine/adjust all of your settings in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display, the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, and the NVIDIA Control Panel, as well as within any software you want to use with full graphics capabilities. Certain items in each, possibly not immediately evident, can substantially limit your potential experience, and no one else has the information or inclination to configure things to your specific setup.
    Hope this helps!

Good day guys, do you know if this will work fine with my n53sv?, I want to upgrade it and the price seems right, I thought I could just select whatever I wanted but I have seen other people with bsod problems.

    Amazon.com: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory (CMSX8GX3M1A1600C10): Computers & Accessories

If this looks fine should I buy it or go for the 4gbx2 kit? (this 8gb would be paired with another 4gb stick for now, the idea is to get at least two of this to be working together but that can wait). Thanks a lot for your help, it's really appreciated.

It should work, running asymmetric means you will have 4GB of single channel memory as well as 8GB of dual.

The speed will be set to the lowest common denominator of the two sticks.

    Hello, Everyone.

I have an N53SV-DH72 I'm almost done clean installing Windows 7 on. I had 2 issues I was stumped on but got one of them cleared up. It was regarding the driver for the Wireless adapter. The PID for it said it was an Atheros AR9002WM-1NG but when I went to install the Atheros driver for it on the Asus website, the driver said it was for an Azurewave device. I ended up using the Atheros driver from Windows update Optional Updates which properly reported it as the Atheros Ar9002 device.

My second and last issue is the TV Tuner driver. Does the N53SV-DH72 have a TV tuner? I want to setup Windows Media but it doesn't detect the device. Asus has 2 TV tuner drivers available on their support site but I don't know which one to use on this laptop if it has a tuner. Help, please. Thanks in advance.

No personal experience with the Corsair sticks, but based on their price, their ridiculously bad online memory finder tool, and bad reports from others with similar machines to ours, I opted for the GSkill 8Gx2 F3-10666CL9D-16GBSQ (x2 for 32G total)
    G.SKILL Model F3-10666CL9D-16GBSQ Laptop Memory - Newegg.com
    I'm very happy with it.
I read A LOT about this when I was getting ready to upgrade, because I was confused by all the conflicting "information" I found. My conclusions, with references, are in an earlier post in this thread. If I'm not responding to late, please read it--I'd like to think all my time and frustration could benefit someone besides just me.
Two things I'd like to point out:
    1) Common wisdom dictates buying RAM in matched sets. I would have bought one set of four if they'd had it. However, I have at various times mixed four different kinds (brand, speed, and size) with no problems in this machine. Of course, Meaker is correct--8G+4G will mean 4+4 dual + 4 single. My prior post cites references.
    2) Meaker again on the speed, and also, despite 1600 MHz being a "sweet spot" value wise, you might not notice any performance difference over 1333 MHz. You will probably notice a price difference, though. I'm pretty sure I got my GSkill for less than $100 a set (<$200 for 32G) on sale.
Best of luck to you. I've got 32G in dual channel, and it makes a HUGE difference, if you can use it.

I still look for the TV tuner on my N53SV-EH71 some times, even though I know it's not there. I've tried every relevant driver I could find to try to coax it out of hiding, but it seems to have eloped with the eSATA port prior to install. Cheerful suggestions from software notwithstanding, your machine probably doesn't have one either. Two ways to check (if Windows is up and running): 1) Device Manager should tell you if it's there, as well as System Information. I think even Windows Experience Index might even give you a hardware list if you PRINT out the Detailed Information; I know it prints a heck of a lot more than what the Detailed Information shows on the screen.
    2) CPU-Z CPU-Z CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting will give you a very nice report if you click the "Save Report (.TXT)" button on the last tab, "About". There are quite a few ID utilities of dubious value out there, but CPU-Z does a very nice job. Just be careful (obviously) what you click on if you decide to download it. It looks to me like the clean download is at ftp://ftp.cpuid.com/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.67-setup-en.exe.
Hope this doesn't come to late!

Hacked N53SN bios for win8 is a winner!

I still need to check how it works under linux, but there is no going back.

If it could be hacked for ivy bridge functionality as well...

I wondering if anyone else has encountered an issue with their N53SV not shutting down cleanly with an HDD caddy? I have the latest BIOS/drivers and have tried two separate caddys with the same result. When I shut down Windows, the laptop audibly powers down but the (white) GPU and Power button remain lit. To fully shuit down I need to hold the power key for 4 seconds or so.

    Hello
I want to acces the power options of the INTEL cpu, but I can't with my 214 bios on my n53 (i'm only able to disable virtualisation)
I want to update to the 215 bios, but I don't know if I will be able to disable C states and other things cpu related, I don't wat to risk a brick of my laptop for nothing (what's the safest way to update by the way?)

Can someone tell me what are the "Add New CPU function support" of the 215 bios please ?
    a photo would be welcome

    Thank you very much

It's unlikely to add those options but you can try, if you follow the directions it's pretty safe.

I may try but i just want to be sure there is the features I need (cf : being able to disable C-state of the i7)
I would love to see what asus means by "Add New CPU function support" of the 215 bios, before trying,
since it's the only pc I have now if it bricks i'm done

asus recommends winflash, but the net recommends easyflash + fat usb drive

what method do you recommend ?

    thanks again :hi2:

    It's probably AES-NI.

EZ flash and USB flash drive, but make sure it's FAT/FAT32 and not NTFS formatted.

    Hi!
I'd like to know if anyone has been able to install Win8 or Win8.1 in uefi mode.
I have the N53SN, with bios 209 modded found on this thread some pages before.
I have been able to install Win8.1 in uefi mode, indeed I have the efi partition. But there aren't options in bios about Secure Boot or CSM. I know that people who can enable secure boot have better performances (faster boot time) and the boot logo is the asus one, not the windows one.
    Do you have any advices?
Here is the link to a video which shows someone with the same pc that seems to have been able to activate those functions: UEFI Boot Asus - YouTube

    Thank you very much

    Hi guys,

New on this thread, bought my n53sv in march 2011 (2410m, 8gb, gt540m, stock hdd). After a huge increase of the laptop's overall heating, I decided to tear it apart and clean it, change ram and renew thermal paste. It resulted in a drastic temp drop (great success!).

I've red the whole thread (248 pages took me a few days!) and I've learned a lot about this laptop even though most of you guys are running i7 with huge amount of ram! Next upgrade will be the addition of a SSD (still hesitating between Samsung 840 evo and Crucial M550) and replacing the dead Bluray drive with a caddy to put stock hdd in.

Reading this thread taught me that it would suffice to make this laptop last a few more years but I'm also considering replacing the cpu as I noticed that I often hit cpu full speed. I've been struggling to find information about a possible cpu upgrade. Can anyone tell me more about my possibilities ?

    Thanks !

Hi guys, I have finally (after year, haha) updated RAM on my ASUS N53SN with 4x4GB CORSAIR Vengeance - Vengeance®
It works in dual channel, but only in 1333Mhz, which is no problem at all. First I wanted Kingstone, but because of 'out of stock' I changed my mind.
BTW, there's nice memory finder - Memory Finder

    Hi all,

I have an Asus N53SN, which per my research has Wireless N and should pickup the 5GHz wireless broadcast.

I bought a Asus RT-AC68U today and have set it up correctly. My Nexus 5 can connect to the 5GHz wireless broadcast and is achieving more than 170MBs on speedtests.

Unfortunately, I cannot see the 5 GHz broadcast on my Asus S53SN. I thought I may have installed the wrong wireless drivers after the last format I did, but I downloaded the drivers from the Asus website.

Are there any switches or installs which I may have stupidly missed to activate the 5GHz on my N53SN?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Jason

    Hi guys,

I have an N53SV and want to upgrade the RAM but I'm finding conflicting information on what the maximum amount of ram I can install on the system is.

Using the Crucial memory scanner it states I can have 16GB, but on many websites it say it can only go up to 8GB.

The exact model number for my laptop is N53SV-SX635V
    i5-2410M
    6GB Ram
    GT 540M
    640GB HDD

I opened the back and saw only two visible RAM slots, can anyone shed some light and tell me if I could put 2x8GB RAM inside this?

    Many thanks

P.S. Sorry if this has already been answered.

In your situation, you can only use 2x4GB, 8GB RAM, because in the Asus webpage they says that you can put up to 16GB RAM in a quad core N53SV and 8GB in a dual core one. So, unless the i5 2410 support 16GB the socket on the motherboard only support for a maximum of 4GB each one.

    Sorry for the bad news.

    Greetings

Thanks for the reply. That's a real shame, going to consider getting a new laptop then as I need something to do video editing with (mainly After Effects)

I emailed the website I purchased the N53SV laptop from (UK official reseller) stating the exact same details as I did in this thread, they replied with:

"Max RAM depends on how many slots u have. 1 module is max 8 GB, so if you have 2 available slots – max RAM will be 16GB"

    So they are wrong?

Hi. I have a Asus N53SV and I'm having a problem finding the right version of the Realtek packet which holds sonic master for windows 8.1 from Asus. I've tried installing a few packets but no sonic master shows up. So if anyone can direct me in the right direction it would so appreciated
    Thanks

Did the notebook can go over the 16gb and how much?
    best regards

    Asus Answer me (in italian)
thanks for contacting Help Desk SUpport
We inform you that your notebook model could be RAM upgraded to max 16 GB DDr 3 1333 Mhz(4x4).

So I would like to learn your experience, also about which brand/module works for sure (i read above problems with Corsair, but ok with Crucial...)
and who of you have upgraded the N53SN like mine, to which max ram (module/total) ?
    Thanks for sharing,cheers from Italy!

    Hello everyone

    1st time poster

I have a n53sn owned for two years

I have had nothing but problems from day one
But had someone close to help when I had problems
And ive managed with these smaller problems until
This last major one that has brought me here
And I might as well list all my problems
Before I pay tech to check it out tomorrow
And maybe able to fix some myself

1st problem is connection to internet. Both Wireless and hardwired
all I get is a blank white screen when trying to load any website
Explorer and chrome both say it is a proxy issues so I go to uncheck
The proxy box halfway down sometimes it works and now it doesn't work at all
the computer recognizes the internet but won't push it through
all other devices work fine through the internet except for this laptop

2nd problem that I'm having which might be related is it is running extremely hot

third problem is my CD ROM keeps clicking every 3 minutesboth with the disk in it and when it's empty

    And for some minor problems

My ctrl button popped off and I cant seem to put back correctly
A program kd_6e4c.exe always wants to run ...cant seem to find out what it is
A taskeng.exe black window has been popping up lately
And finally when loading on start up for a brief second ,
Small squares black, grey and white flash on top screen

    Thx for listening
any help would be greatly appreciated
    For this newb

    Thanks again in advance

This is probably more of a general laptop question, but my son owns the N53SN model and spilled water over the keyboard and now the laptop will not power on or anything (surprised right??). My question is whether or not there is any hope of restoring the laptop since it was in perfect working condition or if I should just pull the hard drive to see if it is functional and junk the rest.
    Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, I'm knew these forums. Not the most tech-savy guy.

I have an Asus N53s Laptop.
Issue: The wifi keeps disconnecting. I have to power down the laptop and then turn if back on to get the connection going.

It's not the internet service or strength or the location were i may be at. Ethernet cable port works okay, i have to use that. But wifi issues.
I want ahead and adjusted the "power savings mode" even keeps reference. I turned it off so that it won't turn off my wifi adapter.
I've also updated the drivers/or have found out they are up to date.j

The slightest move of my laptop. If i push i forward, backward, move it,........... there the wifi drops again. idk. can some one please help. its getting difficult to stay productive.

It sounds to me like you either have a faulty wifi card or maybe a loose connection inside the laptop. First thing I would check is the connection, which would require opening up the bottom of the laptop and making sure that both the card is property seated in the slot and the two antenna connectors are both firmly attached. If that doesn't fix it then you may want to look at getting a new card. I just had to do the same on my Asus UX31VD, the card just didn't work right so I replaced it with a new $30 card and now it is working perfectly.

Actually, it will require complete disassembly as the card is situated roughly where the ASUS sticker is. You can see this around 12:40 in this video:

    and this (at 12:30):

    Hey Guys,

I found this amazing forum the other day, and been reading about half the pages so far, and I am a bit stunned that I have never seen this forum here before, I love it!!
My version is the N53SV SZ016V, the one with the crappy HDD ;). Anyway, that'll soon be upgraded with an additional SDD and maybe even a new wifi-card :).
However, I do have a question or two where I just haven't been able to find any answers anywhere else and was hoping you could help me out.
My recent BIOS version is 209, and I was wondering whether there is any point in upgrading to V. 215. I know a lot of people say "don't fix it if it ain't broken", but I am not sure weather the updates really make a difference, especially since I'm running a dual-boot win7 and win8.1 pro, both 64bit.
The other thing I wondered about is how many people are running win 8.1 without any problems. Unfortunately Asus has decided against any support for win8, and even though I managed to get it running for the most part without problems, I still have issues with the fn-functions, but this seems to be a problem because both windows and ASUS use f4 and f5 for adjusting the brightness. I was wondering if anyone here as managed to fix that.
I did however find a website where someone posted his own bios update based on V215 and manages to fix this issue, but it was a trade-off kind of thing and I am not sure I feel comfortable using a dodgy BIOS. Anyone has head about this Bios and/or used it himself?
    Thanks a lot :)

Mean that one indeed. :) Though not sure weather or not to trust a 3rd party BIOS-update/mod, so will stick with the official one's for now since this is my only laptop at the moment.
You recon it would be worth upgrading to BIOS V 215 from 209 or you happen to know a bit more about the differences? Tried to find some info online, but I don't get anywhere:/.
