It always helps to quote the post you are responding to to make it clear, but yes, though 8GB is usually not a hardship.

Hi. Anyone know if an N53SV-EH72 would work with an ASUS PB278Q at 1440p?

    Hi,

I installed fresh Windows 8 Pro. After installation I am having issues with WIFI.

After every restart/ sleep, WIFI card does not work and gets disabled.

so to solve this, everytime i have to go to Device Manager, remove the WIFI card and reinstall the card. then connect to the wifi AP.

anyone facing this or have a solution to this.

    My Laptop configuration:

    ASUS N53SV
    I7
    8GB RAM
    Qualcomm Atheros AR9002 Wifi Card.

I also installed a fresh copy of Windows 8 Pro but i don't have this problem. I had some issues with wi-fi, like when i came from sleep i had to wait 1-2 minutes for the wi-fi to work and connect. But i have Intel. What helped me with this issue was to go in device manager, click on the wireless card, go to power management tab and be sure that 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' is checked.

    Hi!
Pelase anybody can send me a full dump of your Bios, I have the N53SV and I was trying to add SLIC tables, but the bios goes corrupted, so I remove the chip and reprogrammed it, but the asus bios is a 2.5MB file, and the chip is 4MB, so I put the bios file at the beginning of the block( because in winhex the data looks similar) but this don't work, now my led lights turn on automatically when put the ac adapter( this is something, before that was complety death)

Or otherwise can someone looks their dumped full bios and say me the offset when the bios file start.

    Thanks

I've just installed the Intel Advanced-N 6235 wi-fi/bluetooth replacement card, including drivers for both bluetooth (first) and wi-fi (second) on my Windows 7 Asus N53SV. But I can't get the bluetooth functional. Please advise.

Anyone know if we can use the bios update from here: ( ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download N53SM), to attempt to fix the brightness button issue on windows 8? Both machines (N53SM and N53SV) seems very close other than the graphics card and the blu-ray reader. Anyone gave it a try? :)

They also have different graphics chips which will have their bios built into the system bios.

I didn't pay to much attention to the connectors, so I cannot say for sure. But I don't think so.

Or did you by any chance mean eSATA? In which case, most likely no. Obviously it depends on the model, but most likely you'll have 3x USB2 and 1x USB3.

BTW, there's now also a disassembly guide on YouTube:

After I installed some recent updates on Windows 8, I am experiencing some hanging issues. Wifi stops working after ~1 hour and computer becomes irresponsible, unable to shutdown or restart with about ~%10 CPU usage from the SYSTEM. Is there anyone who experiences same problems with me?

    Hello,

I noticed that you have an ASUS N53JF. I have one myself except I recently bricked it after a BIOS flash. Would you be kind enough to provide me a BIOS dump?

Here's a tool you can use, it should only take less than a minute: Download Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0.exe from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Once downloaded, right click and run as administrator. Click "Read", once finished, click "Backup". Lastly, save it and somehow get me the file.

This would truly help. It will allow me to revive my dead laptop.

    Thanks,

I meant mSATA, not eSATA. mSATA is the one inside laptop's case, it's commonly in Lenovo's laptops.

Try getting the newest Atheros drivers plus Windows updates. My N53SV works fine with Win8, never had any WiFi issues.

I have the N53SV-EH72 model and I was just wanting to know if it's possible to swap out the GPU on this model?

    By default, it comes with:

    2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 2670QM
    6 GB DDR3 RAM
nVidia GT 540m 1 GB vRAM

Mainly, I just want to try upgrading the GPU if at all possible. Has anyone tried swapping out GPUs on this model?

I was hoping it would accept one of the newer nVidia models and it'd just be a simple swap.

    GPU is soldered :(

    On a different note:
    Has anyone replaced their battery?
It's time for me but not sure where to get a good one?
If any of you bought from ebay I would love to hear reviews...

    Thanks

I'm not sure if the 6300 includes built in bluetooth, that may be the key difference.

    Half.

You should be aware that the laptop has only two antennas, so unless you are planning on putting in the third one 6235 or 6230 might be a better choice. Since you also get the Bluetooth, even though you don't want it ;)

Hi, I have problems with my audio on my device... It is a N53SM... It has worked earlier and I cannot figure out what I have done to screw this up...

I have ubuntu installed in parallell on the machine and I have no problem there, so it is obviously not a hardware problem.

I am running Windows 7, 64 bits. The audio in the internal speakers functions BUT when I plug something into the headphones jack the sound stops... No more in the speakers, nothing in the headphones... I have also tried hooking the computer up the stereo but the result is the same...

Everytime I do plug in/out something in the headphone jack, the system reacts and puts up a small information windows down by the icons saying "Information: You just plugged a device into the audio jack."

I have de-installed the RealTek audio driver, same behaviour...
I have re-installed the RealTek audio driver from the Asus support page for my machine, same behaviour...
I have re-installed the RealTek audio driver from RealTeks homepage, same behaviour...
I have looked for updates with Windows Update without finding anything...

Right clicking the Speaker icon and selecting "Playback devices" give me the following list:
    Audiodev.jpg

Plugin in or out the audio cable to the stereo makes no difference in the list...

Selecting Speakers in the list and pressing Properties gives the following view:
    speakersprop.jpg

When googling on this problem it seems like other people have an secondary option in the "Jack Information" that I do not have...

I would appreciate all help I can get on this...

I called Asus support today and their suggestion was:
    1) it is a hardware fault, send in the machine for repair
    2) try reinstalling the machine
When I said that I did not want to reinstall I got the answer that it is the first thing they do when they get the machine in for service anyway...

    Best regards, Tobias Gårdner

It has to be something with the settings. Check out SonicMaster settings, sound settings in control panel and Realtek manager (also in control panel). Maybe it's a mixer or equalizer.

    EDIT: I have the N53SV.

Almost always, it goes from frozen to BSOD because of "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE." There's some technical information that I don't know what it means but I can include that if it helps. I've been getting blue screens even since the first use of the laptop and it's really disappointing.

No but do you ever get the display driver has recovered from an error message? The screen will freeze and then a notification will appear at the bottom left.

No, I don't remember seeing those messages. What usually happens is that the whole screen just freezes. I believe this is more than a mouse-cursor freeze - toggling number lock or caps lock usually also turns on/off indicator lights but those lights don't come on either. Unlike in Traxor's comment, my sound doesn't always freeze up. When the computer freezes, if I wait some time (~20 minutes), it either unfreezes or goes to blue screen and I notice that the majority of freezes happen when windows has to do a "Shutdown button" update.

Good day everyone, I know that at the beginning of this thread there was a discussion about changing the keyboard for this laptop, but nowadays somebody knows which (and where to get it) is the best possible keyboard to get for this?, I'd love to get a backlit chiclet keyboard, but don't know where to grab it from. Thanks to whoever answers.

    Hey guys,

I recently installed 8gb ram (the 1600mhz) and a SSD (120gb 840d samsung) since doing this the PC overheats and shuts down

It's particularly prone to doing this when I'm doing a virus check, but it also does it gaming.

Any suggestions? I've got the laptop well ventilated, even have a fan on it and it's still doing it.

I used to be able to run it OC'd, on the witcher, and in a draw and it didn't overheat :S

might have to uninstall it, you guys reckon it could be the specific model? been doing it heaps, graphics on high it's fine, very high it dc's..

This is on league of legends, not even a high graphic game. i've got the laptop in the open, on a cooling bad, with a fan blowing on it and it still crashes

Could the problem be that the SSD takes more power or something and the cpu is running low on voltage or something?

I started getting these errors. it's a hard drive failure. I installed new RAM however ran some bench marks and everything was fine. I did an uninstall of windows and reinstall. Ran some bench marks and everything was fine. Then checked up about viruses and nothing. It only happened when I was trying to pull something off the HDD. Changed out the HD and now no problems. hope this helps.

Does anyone know how to get 32GIGRam? I have 16 and i'm curious if i can bump it up....

After doing a bit of 3d marking, processor temperature gets to 95°c Should I bother with a repaste, considering how difficult they are or is it possible if i underclock my ram it might fix issues ? The ram I put in is 8gb of 1600, as opposed to the 4gb of..??? mhz.

Or could it be the SSD, which doesn't make much sense, i'd have thought.

Having done a bit more research, and overclocking my GPU just then to trial, the temps are fine on graphic tests, only on physics tests does it heat up. physics tests are CPU related, according to 3dmark11, so it seems that either the ssd or ram is making my cpu run hotter. if the ram is faster does that mean it could have oc'd my cpu or smtn, on account of fsb?

did the pulldown, there was very little dust inside but i figuerd I may as well repaste... Seems to be doing well now, maxing at 84d now, with lid shut, whereas was overheating after 20 seconds wiht lid shut previously

Putting the fix therefore to a replacement of the crap asus paste, was hoping it'd be full of dust but there was none!

Over time the cheaper pastes do tend to dry and a proper pasting itself goes a long way to, congrats on getting it all working again after the tear down.

    Any screws left over? :p

It's new enough it should, you might want to double check devices like web cams. Maybe dual boot from a donwloaded ISO and do a trail to see?
