@Janne303 i really suspect the hdd, my other suspect is the usb, but i'm increasingly inclined for the hdd

now i have to format back to send it to Asus if it happens again. OMG!

PS: with the recovery dvd's i made can i get the hidden partition back automatically or do i have to create one manually?

holly crap my four year old Vaio not a single problem

Does anyone know how to make the keyboard shortcuts work with iTunes instead of automatically opening up Windows Media Player?

    Help is appreciated, thanks!

since i'm about to complain, i'm going the full way, mine has the annoying electrical leakage, i read that a grounded power cord solved the problem.

As it happens my N53 came without the power cord (it brought 1/2 the cord, only the part that connects from the PC to the box, but the rest, the part that goes to the electrical plug has missing) and at the store they gave me a generic one, could it be the problem? should i ask for a new cord, a original one?

Call them again, repeatedly, until someone with a bit knowledge answered your phone.

I didn't get my RMA, which just required a simple firmware upgrade on one of the components, because they said I swapped out the hard drive (which has nothing to do with it). I called the second time, and the guy gave me the RMA number within 2 minutes.

Im temped to take of the keyboard but Im very busy ATM and Feel its very important to blow out the fan once or twice a month to prevent excessive build up of dust and stuff?

I'm curious if anyone can find the Asus tool Sonic Master to enhance the sound on the Asus support site: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download N53SV

Because I can't find it! I reinstall the laptop with a clean Windows 7 but I can't find the Sonic tool to enhance the sound :( Anyone else found it?

Try using the driver disk that was included with your laptop. IIRC, Sonicmaster should be included on that.

I've used the drivers from the Asus site but that didn't work. But I've finally have Sonic Master. You'll have to use the CD and then autorun setup and install audiodriver with sonic master, do not browse in the cd and click on the setup that won't install sonic master.

Hi guys, working on this machine (N53SN) more than a month and everything works very well, no BSOD, or any other issues. Today, my new monitor ASUS PA246 arrived, so if someone is interesting, yes HDMI works on 1920x1200 without any problem. Even more, I have connected also my previous monitor to VGA and everything works without any problem. Really cool, so I have two monitors connected to my laptop, in 1920x1200 and 1280x1024.

(If you had a problem to setup this, try to restart, it helped me to setup proper resolutions)

Ok I'm looking to buy an N53 model...despite the slightly above-average size I think it fits my needs best (I want good sound, eliminating the Sager NP5165, and there isn't enough information out there on the MSI GE620).

Question though: Does anyone sell custom configurations of the N53 SN instead of the N53 SV? I'd like to get the slightly higher end NVIDIA 550M chip if possible (other reqs are an i7, minimum 4 GB RAM, BluRay reader, Intel 6230 LAN, and FHD screen). I realize it's not a huge difference, so if I had to I could settle for a customized N53SV-B1 from XoticPC, but I figure I'll check before I pull the trigger, right?

I wasn't able to find a decent N53SN either. I would've loved a 550M, but the only configuration I was able to find was with an i5, so I just bought the N53SV-XV1 off of Amazon instead.

I just bought an N53SV-XV1 off of Amazon no more than a week ago and I've already encountered a big problem.

Basically, out of the blue the computer will freeze and then the display basically goes all screwy, static-like, flickering, and occasionally makes noise. If the laptop is closed, I assume the same problem occurs but the display won't turn on instead and it is frozen as well. I have to force shutdown after each occurrence. I've only noticed this happen when I don't have a graphically intensive program open. Yeah sorta hard to explain but it shouldn't be doing this.

So far I've updated the NVIDIA drivers and installed an additional 8GB of RAM.

Was wondering if someone here can give me any ideas as to what is wrong.

I have an ASUS N53SV-XE1 I have a couple of questions I am not sure of.
The best Windows Experience I can get is 4.8 in graphics and 6.6 in gaming graphics does this seem low.

When I run I run 3Dmark06 it tells me the video card is Intel 3000 I have downloaded the latest drivers from NVidia but I cannot get it change to the NVidia GT 540M
How do you know if is using the Nevada Optimus Technology?

    Thanks for any help

What kind of games are you going to be playing? I have the n53sv-xv1 with FHD screen and can play SC2 on high with out lag at about constant 50-60FPS and thats with stock clocks my 540M overclocks to 900/1000 with out crashing =/ and thats playing on 1980-1080 res...If you go to benchmark list the 550M is in spot 78 and the 540M is in spot 96. so there is not tooo much of differnece in performance. Just my .02$.

Sounds like a problem with ur intel 2000HD card. when the laptop is useing the integrated card it will shine a blue light by the power button and when it uses the nvidia GPU it will be showing a white light. When ur laptop crashes does the blue or white light shine? Also did u format and install a clean windows 7 on it or is it still the intial instalation? My first suggestion is try updating the Intell drivers as well. if that does not work see if you can do a clean instalation and install all the drivers, if the problem continues then its probably a hard wear issue and you should contact ASUS rma. Or use amazon return and exchange. Your choice. If you are going to do a clean install make sure to install all the drivers from the CD that was included or from their websites and then update them as needed since there is some in between drivers supplied in the major ones and if you don't use those it will cause issues...

Intrestingly enough I get 5.7 for buisnes graphics and 6.6 for gaming perforamnce. When you run 3dMark right click on the shortcut and third down should be "Run with graphics processor" select NVIDIA GPU and the program should start, you can also select change defaults to let you assign which programs to run with which GPU as well. When the NVIDIA GPU is used the light next to the power button should be white. if its white an 3dmark06 sais its using Intel then its lieing as its indeed uses the NVidia but doesn't name the processor correctly for some reason. Same issue is found in FurMark 3d, it will show that its useing the Intel GPU but shows the clock speeds and uses the NVIDIA GPU.. =/

Actually, that's probably the most current game I'd be playing. So far anyway. Thing is I prefer to keep laptops for 3 years, so the only way to deal with what comes out later is to get the best I can find without sacrificing weight and battery life (and a little bit better is still better). Good to know about your results though, I don't have to worry about the stuff I've got, or anything near-future. And some of the older games I play are so old they have to run in an XP VM.

Of course I also do video conversion for my Android, but the Intel HD graphics might be just as good for accelerating that.

I do the same, but I game pretty rarely and If I do its at home so I would build a gaming rig up again since u can build one for quiet cheap...but I think the 540M wont disapoint you for a mobile card, SC2 is more processor intensive anyway, I play normaly on medium in nativ res at 60FPS and only drop close to 30 in late game 3v3's In 1v1's I never had issues running at 60FPS on bliz maps, some of the MLG maps droped me though since theyare SOOO huge...

by the way if you expirence problems installing softwear (like Matlab) then try installing it in safe mode. For odd reasons unknown to me matlab installer would totaly crash my system...no idea why o_O

Just bought my N53SN with 16GB RAM. Still waiting for my Crucial m4 512GB SSD :) Very itchy to get a chocolate keyboard...

When I started playing with the machine, the first thing I did was Windows Update. Somehow it kept failing (with partial success on certain updates but SP1 always fails) with error code from Windows site. Finally I did a clean install and things went well. I won't go too far as I have to re-do the whole clean install thing when my SSD arrives.

Everything seems pretty good now, except tor the blot ware. I will do a clean install with 7 and reload all the drivers but I will download as many as I can direct from as many suppliers first. It seems that Asus automatic update does not work properly of they are not staying current with their driver update.

Yeah, for me having a desktop rig is a bit impractical, between space and travel: I've been using a laptop for my regular machine for years, tried using a desktop for a while a couple years ago but I ended up using the laptop more often anyway. Desktops take up a surprising amount of space when you get right down to it. :)

The only desktop style PC I have now is an Atom/Ion-based box sitting under my TV acting as a file server. I don't want to drag around a 17 inch, and while I wish the N53SV was under 6 pounds, I figure I can live with 6.5. Besides, having 4 DIMM slots should be useful, though I wonder if a second HDD bay would have been a better use of the space. What can you do, can't have everything, right?

Just ordered my N53SV-B1, and while I wait for it I'm moving my OS off of the Momentus XT in my current machine and putting it back on the 500 GB Scorpio Black and put the XT in the N53 for a fresh OS load.

Went to the base quad-core CPU, and added the Intel 6230 wireless. I can live with 6 GB for now, with this thing it's easy to add a ton more later. We'll see how long it takes XoticPC to build it, and see how much trouble I have having it shipped to my office instead of my home. :)

Still am annoyed with having the HDD activity light below the trackpad, but at least it's not on the front of the laptop, right where one's arm would cover it. Like the HP ProBook or Compal in my sig...

hey guys, Im planning to get the ASUS N53Sv i7-2630QM for 3d usage with Autodesk softwares after managing to find a buyer for my week old hp dv6 laptop which was equipped with an ATI radeon card due to the irritating problem that was the switchable graphics , but was browsing through the forums and realized that the nvidia optimus graphics card also has problems when it comes to Autodesk softwares. ( Memory leak problems with GeForce 540M and Autodesk programs. - NVIDIA Forums ) yeesh.

Can anyone here care to share their experiences who has used/or are using the n53sv with softwares such as 3dsmax, Maya and Photoshop ?

Make sure it's the XV1, B1, or B2 with the 1920x1080 display. If you're using CAD, try to avoid the ones with the 1366x768 display, and try to avoid that display in general.

1366x768 is a really low resolution for a 15" laptop, so it makes things rather large. It doesn't let you fit very much onscreen at all, except for one window, and you'll have to scroll a lot.

For CAD, the benefits you will see with a higher resolution are being able to view less pixelated renders (you can zoom out more) and being able to fit more property dialogs.

For Photoshop, you need a good quality screen (decent contrast and colors) and most 15.6" 1366x768 displays are of mediocre quailty. The higher resolution also allows you to work with larger-dimension images without scrolling or zooming.

Multitasking benefits a lot from a higher resolution too, because you'll be able to fit two windows side-by-side with less scrolling. The screen is the only thing that can benefit general usage as well as performance-intensive usage.

The screen makes the most difference out of any of the specs. In fact, I'd suggest 1920x1080+i5-2410M over 1366x768+i7-2630QM. The processor will only affect certain specific things (or maybe not depending on how intensive your CAD usage is, because the i5-2410M is still very capable), but the screen affects the entire usability of your computer for everything.

hi guys, i plan to get this but there are so many N53sv versions...(like xv1,b1,b2) i don't know which ones the best any ideas?
    is this good?
    ASUS N53Sv-B1 N53SV CUSTOM + 750gb 7200rpm + 8gb RAM | eBay
If i get i7 core, 750gb 7200rpm, and 8gb ram, will it make the laptop loss battery life faster?
If so i think i might try to get this...even if it is 5400rpm...

also will they update a new series of N53sv anytime soon, like how they refresh apple items?

I'd go to XoticPC and get the N53SV-B1, it has the FHD screen and Bluray player for under $1000, and you can pay them to put in a Core i7 CPU if you want it.

I'd be nervous buying a brand new laptop off of eBay. Used is a different story, but not new.

-in addition, i think i5 would be enough for me to play most games ( i don't think its worth the $100+ more)....I also heard it provides more battery life than i7. Is this a noticeable difference?

    The good ones are:
    N53 SV-B1, N53 SV-B2, N53 SV-XV1, N53 SN-XV1
(because they have the 1920x1080 display)

    The ones to avoid are:
    N53 SV-A1, N53 SV-A2, N53 SV-XE1, N53 SV-XR2
(because they have the junk-resolution 1366x768 screen)

    And of course avoid:
    N53 J*
    (because of previous-generation processors)

Hi guys I got problem - I go N53SN, Windows 7 x64 and I installed Azurewave Camera Driver V5.8.54000.207 from ASUS website, but no matter what I do my image in Skype and other apps is vertically flipped - my head is upside down. How to fix it? There is no option in Skype and I haven't found any newer drivers :(

Nope, there is no such setting - these camera settings are provided by the drivers and are different for different webcams.

Anyone else having problems with low and bad sound on Asus N53SV-XV1 (sorry, I didn't make it rhough all 55 pages of this thread)?

I've been using mine for a while for software dev, but just tried watching a movie on it via headphone, and found the sound to be really weak. At max volume, it was barely audible.

    Any help appreciated.

    It`s the wrong camera driver.
Use the Webcam finder from here, to find the right driver:
    Webcam finder
All you need is the Hardware Id from your camera.
