-p4g extreme is for the gaming asus laptops

-you have to select the fingerprint login option to use ur fingerprint when you log in

-go look in the advanced tab in the windows pwr settings options to get detailed info on what the profile does

All fixed, Just entered the number/letter group on the COA & it activated.

Prior to that. I phoned Microsoft this morning & spoke to a Tech. He did not know why my year old OEM now needed activation.
He said entering the COA numbers/letters would not work.
I was to phone the Automated Activation 0800.

I then phoned Asus & the Tech there just repeated what Microsoft had said.
He said that this sort of problem used to happen quite often in the past, but not so much nowadays.
He said either I did a Factory Restore from the supplied Discs or go through the phone activation.

Having nothing to loose, I tried entering the COA info.

Amazing isn't it, that two Techs from different firms says entering the COA info won't work, when it did for me ... go figure.

Strange behaviour as nothing had changed in the notebook.

Anyone try the 212 BIOS? Is it just fan control that it has?

Is there a function to turn off the touchpad? I'm not using any drivers (back to that keyboard lag issue resolution)

I have no idea as to what is causing your problem. I suggest you contact Asus to see what they can do for you.

TPM is a chip on the mainboard and if you don't have it, you cannot "upgrade" to have it, sorry...

Fingerprint logon is NOT stronger than password logon, in my opinion. I would suggest using a strong password and not giving fingerprints another thought. If you want a reliable encryption solution, use TrueCrypt, password-based. You store the password in your head, no security problem. :)

As to the cable, I suspect you mean the S-Video cable that comes standard with all ASUS notebooks. However, many ASUS notebooks nowadays do NOT have S-Video output. I would suggest you check if your notebook has it, if not then that cable is useless and you do not need to worry about it.

ok the finger print reader only works with the app that comes with the laptop orginaly period! If you want to do something else you can not use the fingerprint reader. For more info on true crypt just google it. as for the tv your pretty much s.o.l. unless you get a vga to av and they are expansive

you can buy a full version of the fingerprint app for around 20 I think you might have to look online to see what it adds to the app but i think it will do what you want then

Apparently people don't know about this application...

How about assigning some global hotkeys (instead of fingerprint gestures) to the applications you want to start? I am sure this type of software exists (although I am not sure it can be done natively in Windows -- in Ubuntu it's possible).

You can always assign macros to keys to start apps... a quick google search can bring up quite a few apps that can do this

I'm really woried, I'm starting to loose picture & my screen is flickering when my n50vn is outspread in certain angle, when I move it for just a 1 degree than it's normal... so it's some bad contact between monitor & housing.... does anybody know what I need to replace for fixing it? is there some contact screen cable & is it possible to just replace that thing :| ??!?

does the n50 come with a recovery CD ?

i want to reformat because i have some bad redirecting malware i cant get rid of.

I found an asus disk called windows vista media recovery but im not sure if that is the whole deal or just some media drivers?

When I had mine it came with a driver disk and a vista reinstall disk. If you haven't reformatted the drive there should be a default asus recovery partition still on there

which recovery option do i pick?

1- Recover windows to first partition only.

2- Recover windows to entire HD.

3- Recover windows to entire HD with 2 partitions.

    I'm thinking 3 but i'm not sure?

My N50vn came with two partitions. I have Windows 7 64 bit (came with Vista 32 bit) on the first partition & use the 2nd partition for my other stuff, that I do not want to be touched when I do a restore, like you are going to do.
I have restored twice from the hidden restore partition & once from the Disc's, the option you need to choose is option One.

It makes no difference which method you use to restore. From the restore partition or Disc, options remain the same. It is much faster from the restore partition.

Option One will restore the first partition back to when you first got it, with Windows on it. The second partition does not get touched.

Option Two will wipe EVERYTHING & leave you with ONE partition only, with Windows installed on it. The second partition is merged with the first.

Option Three will wipe EVERYTHING & leave you with Windows on the first partition & a empty second partition.

    Hi guys,

My apologies if kind of question already popped up in the forum, but I couldn't find anything like it.

So, my problem is: I've got Asus n50v with 15.4" WXGA display (3gb ram, 320hdd, 2xblu-ray) and occasionally, when I move the LCD lid the whole image is going haywire. Sometimes it goes normal after a while and sometimes it stays that way until I move it. Seems like position of the lid is important (but I am not 100% sure).

Does any of you come across such a problem? What's your suggestions - laptop is still on warranty but maybe there is a way to fix it without sending it as it is very important for my business.

Thanks a lot for all suggestions!

    Same, thanks.

After searching through the owner's thread and having the same problem. I opened up my N50vn-B1B and guess what. The antennas were also white(left), black(right). After switching them, i just got the full signal where i got nothing before. Still can't find the adhoc n option in my device manager since updating the drivers. I can guarantee it used to be there.

I'll try to roll back to a previous driver version.

Hey fellas, regarding the screen flicker, I have had this problem. I sent my machine back to Asus where they replaced the MB and the screen. Firstly I have had the machine back for about months and the problem has started again. Second thing when I got it back and ran the Win7 performance info I was down from 4.9 to 3.3?????? I have had a noticeable slowing of performance since I got my laptop back and the thing is hot to touch.

The result is that I will be sending my laptop back and asking for a replacement. My warranty runs out in November. Judging the level of support I have gotten so far I don't think this will be a problem.
