I think the 209 fixed the missing key strokes. I still noticed a bunch of missing keys in 207, but I've had NONE right now.
-
Can you test the keyboard combinations for us?
-
s+d+space still doesn't work
neither does z+x+right.
Looks like they just worked on the missing keystrokes, nothing about the key combinations, sorry man. I also noticed that the key input is less responsive when the touchpad is enabled. I just disable it with the hotkey or FN+F9 and then the keyboard works perfectly normal. Awesome because I can finally increase my typing speed on this thing. -
Yes, it is reasonably clear by now that the missing keystrokes are caused by a faulty touchpad driver. See the other threads discussing the problem (I think someone found the solution first for the G50, but I do not remember exactly; see perhaps the G50 owner's lounge 1st post).
-
Since it doesnt fix the keyboard combination problem, I wont really need to upgrade to BIOS 209, lol.
Cmon Asus -
-
Well yeah, Im not really affected by the keyboard lag, which is weird. Whats in the laptop is all stock.
Btw, I was wondering if there's another way to increase speaker volume? Does updating its drivers (assuming there's one) help?
Or if there's another way, I'd appreciate it. -

I just bought my first laptop (M50) and I LOVE IT.
HOWEVER, i am having wireless network problems. Where can i go and download the latest updates/drivers for the network adapter??? Someone said they downloaded version 7.6.0.114??? Where did they get it? -
The drivers released by ASUS are on support.asus.com.
Otherwise, I guess the WiFi is manufactured by Intel so you should find drivers on their website. -

Just got the M50VM B1 a week ago and am loving it! Initially, I was going to install XP on it, but decided to stick with Vista. I have experience with Vista running on budget laptops and would get frustrated with how unstable it was. But Vista running on a powerful laptop such as this one is another story entirely. I actually think I like Vista more than XP.
My only gripe with the M50VM B1 is the sound. I don't use the speakers that much. I mainly use headphones, and the sound on this laptop is very weak. I have the nVIDIA HDMI @ Intel 82801IB ICH9 - High Definition Audio Controller (version 1.0.0.30) and the Realtek ALC663 @ Intel 82801IB ICH9 - High Definition Audio Controller (version 6.0.1.5643) installed. I updated BIOS TO 209. I adjusted the settings to the maximum, and the sound is awful. That's pretty bad for a laptop that is marketed as a multimedia machine. My old Dell Inspiron 600m has better audio. Any suggestions to improve the sound? -
That's what monopoly does to you, you assume everything is manufactured by Intel and runs Microsoft software.
-
I was able to increase audio using ffd audio decoder, but this only applies to vids played using the media player that came with k-lite codec pack.
As to increasing the other audios of the laptop, Im stuckBut well, at least I was able to increase audio when watching videos.
-
Bump.
Does anybody know how to reset the multimedia hotkeys in the touchpad? -
What do you mean by "reset the multimedia hotkeys in the touchpad"? I don't have a multimedia touchpad so maybe that's why I don't understand.

hey guys,
i got a question about the wireless card... i know this lappy has a n-card but no matter how close i put this thing to my n router (WRT160N), it just doesn't go above a 54mbps connection!
have you guys experienced any of this? -
@EBE
Well, there are two hotkeys in the multimedia touchpad where you can set a program to open upon pressing it. I wanted to know how to change the program, lol
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=229282 - M50SV review thread. You can check out what I actually mean here.
Also, can you guys tell me how to check how high your connection is in vista? Lol, thanks -
Hello all
I have the M50vc with XP SP3
Device manager says that SATA is installed (pls see attachment) but when I enable "Enhanced" in the BIOS, I get the BSOD on startup. I hope my reasoning is correct here.
I have created a slipstreamed CD but have not used it to load SATA drivers.
Question 1
How does one use this CD to install the drivers (if necessary) without going thru the whole install process? The machine is set up the way I want it now and I don't want to reinstall and start again. I know I can opt for reinstall without destroying the previous installation but I am not sure how much if any of the previous install gets disturbed.
Question 2
What does the SATA drivers in Device Manager signify?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Next time you install Windows, slipstream the SATA drivers. That works painlessly.
#2, I don't know. -
Thanks for the input EBE.
I'll take your comments on board and just let things be.
Thanks again.
Cheers -
Does anyone know how to turn off the sound when the laptop first turns on? the one that it makes when the ASUS comes up?

Hey all again,
I've had my M50VM for a few months now. I'm having a resolution problem with it though. Sometimes when I close the lid or go into standby the resolution goes back to 1152 x 864 when I open it back up.. It's really bugging me since all my windows get resized, etc.
Does anyone know why it's doing this? I've reinstalled the video drivers already. -
-
-
-
Im guessing you should use 180.43, thats the most recent one, yes?
I havent updated my video card drivers though. Just waiting for someone to try it out first before I do -
-
Is there a certain way you have to uninstall laptop drivers? Or do I just install it over the current drivers?
I know for desktop cards, you have to completely remove the drivers before the new ones will function correctly. -
Alright, I can tell that similar issues as mine have been posted, but I haven't had any luck with finding complete solutions to the problem.
I love my new Asus -- it's my first, and the machine seems to really kick some butt, especially for the price -- but last night when I was using it for the first time the display just went dim and I couldn't figure out how to bring it back. I restarted, and it was fine until it went to sleep on power save mode. When I tried to get it back to life, the display stayed dim. I don't know how to get it back to full brightness except to restart...
I'm assuming it has something to do with the Power4Gear? Any help out there? -
I think the problem was the ambient light sensor... I switched it off and KA-ZAM! my display came back. That ambient light sensor really darkens things up, eh? Any way to adjust the settings of that thing?
-
Not really, its either you turn it on, or turn it off.
Just turn it off and adjust the brightness to your liking -
I just got an M50VM-A1 and I immediately noticed that the DVD drive buzzes extremely loudly every time it spins up. Does this happen to anyone else, and is there any way to stop this from happening short of sending it in for repair or replacement?
-
I had my optical drive replaced for that very reason. At first, the new one was a lot quieter than the first one, but now (less than a month later) it's just as loud. It wouldn't be so bad if the cursed thing didn't make the extremely obnoxious noise every time the laptop boots up. Getting a replacement doesn't solve the problem, and it doesn't look like there's anything else that will reduce the noise. That's the only disappointment I've had with my M50, mainly because my cheap Compaq V2000 was really quiet.

That is the exact laptop that I have come from to my M50 and noise is also the main thing I am not happy about. I don't find such a big problem with the optical drive, but my fan noise drives me crazy. I'd probably return it if i could.
-
The fan should be absolutely quiet though. Something's wrong with yours
-
is very unpleasant for average work in silent environment. -
Is this coming from the speakers, or not?
-
-
Not from speakers, but from the left side-definitely from the air intake/outtake. For me this is really annoyance, because everything else on this laptop is superb. I tried to play with different Power4gear settings under power schemes but nothing helped. Only occasion when i'm not hearing this high pitched sound is shortly after turning it on when on batteries. But 3-4 minutes after entering windows in that case i'm hearing it again. It seems that fan when spinning fully, produces this sound. Any idea how this could be avoided for non intensive work under windows? Probably sort of better thermal control within bios update would help, but this is probably question for Asus support.

Though I would just reply here guest99
I agree, nothing wrong with the speaker. The fans on my laptop are definitely not absolutely quiet, and I'm talking about under completely idle situations, battery saving mode ,no load at all (except vista).
Although I have to say, this laptop keeps very cool, even under high load.
I haven't found any solution the high pitched noises, but I've noticed that at certain screen brightnesses I get another humming sound - not unavoidable but annoying. -
Mine is also very cool, but this high pitched noise, even under idle, is really disturbing me. I found user review on some german page where he stated that he had experience with 2 examples (though M50VM model) having both that high frequency sound (... Ich hatte 2 Geräte hier, die beide leider ein hochfrequentes Pfeiffen erzeugten ...).
For me it looks like some minor tweak (probably 10-15% reduce of fan rpm's when not at full load) of thermal managment would solve this. But that is bios related problem and only Asus could solve this. If only they would be willing to do this...for us with sensitive ears -

Did you try updating the bios? There is an updated bios that's supposed to fix the keyboard lag problems, maybe it'll help this as well?
I'm actually trying to return mine, but I think it might be too late. If it is, I'll try the bios update, but I don't want to do that If im going to return it.
