Olmighygreek, the asus linked driver worked perfectly. Thanks. Now my subwoofer turns down with the l r speakers. Here's a link if anyone needs it. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download . In the model name box put G75 and it will take you to The drivers. Didn't get so lucky on the ctrl r command for showing the frame rate. I reset startup to its defaults but no joy. Anyone else experienced this?

ctrl + r maybe a game related hotkey?

I will be purchasing this laptop soon , upgrading from my G73SW.

Probably upgrade the memory myself and replacing one of the HD with a SSD. -
It is a known bug... You can use fraps. -
Can someone tell us how to unlock the GPU clocks in the 660m ? I've tried Nvidia Inspector but did not work... Still stuck at +135 core. As someone said in here "I know she co go further".

Anyone who wants to mod / overclock his G75: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...-g75-rog-modding-tuning-clocks-temps-etc.html
Could we please collect temps for the G75 in the linked post? Thanks in advance.
@Guido: have you tried modified drivers? Im not sure if it will help. In worst case we have to wait for modded vbios. -
Just picked up a G75VW from staples in canada
Came with the 660gtx 2x500gb seagate driver and 8gb ram,
swapped out one of the drives for an ssd and put another 8gb or ram in.
One interesting thing i found is that I can run triple displays very easy, laptop plus using hdmi and vga ports, once I get a displayport monitor I will see if I can run 4 monitors, as the 660 is supposed to support up to 4 displays at once,. -
I have done quite a bit of searching and I am having a very hard time getting specs or even general info on the 75's moniter
I am a photographer, and while I like the full hd version, can anyone tell me what the spectrum differential on the generic model is, vs, can I get the 3d one and would that be better?
also, If someone has input as to where the best place is to shop/ where I am planning on upgrading some of the components would be, or do I simply need to buy the machine and upgrade later??? (meaning hard drives)
I looked through the threads, utubes and such and no one seems to really talk much about the screen... everyone is so into speed.. which is fine but for my purpose, I need a good quality screen with the best color output/reality as possible..
thanks for any suggestions..

Played around with some gpu overclocking tonight
Using MSI afterburner +135mhz on the core verified to work, checked out via gpu-z and + 100mhz on the ram

As I had mentioned before this laptop supports multiple displays with little in terms of restrictions.
I have an Asus b43j and it supports triple monitors, but you must use the displayport included in the laptop in order for that to function.
My setup with the G75 is
VGA=19" lcd tv
HDMI=27" lcd (HDMI -> DVI)
Internal G75 Screen
From reading up online it seems the GTX 660m supports 4 displays. I will be purchasing either a Dell 30" lcd or a 27" and trying out the mni display port as well.

Do all G75 have throttling CPU?
I have not found one that it does not, but there might be hope for new models or maybe with new BIOS updates. -
Ugh, why doesn't search work on Notebook Review? I always get, " Could not find phrase 'invalid_search_query'." (Yes I tried using more than 3 characters)
Question that I should already know the answer to, but is the G75VW MXM capable? I don't know of any 660M 2GB MXM cards, so I'm going to go with a no.
Also, while Googling around, I found a configurable Asus G75VW-BBK5 with the 660M at HIDevolution for $1,350. The weird thing is it claims to have Thunderbolt, which isn't out yet for the G75VW. Looks like complete bull to me.
My main question remains, is the 660M solder onto the motherboard? Because if so, I'm going to get the G55. -
I'm glad this thread is still going! I've sold this laptop and bought the Lenovo Y580 and Bought the new Envy lol I need tech intervention!
-
-
That's the first laptop I originally wanted to purchase, then went back and forth between a Sager, Asus G55VW and just building a new desktop. The thermals worry me on the Y580, it runs cool(ish), but the G55VW is supposedly better in that aspect. -
-
I wouldn't go by my opinion on a laptop I have the worst tech habit on the planet! I go through Laptops like I use to go through women -
Asus gaming laptop have probably the BEST cooling system ever.
-
I'm just about to pull the trigger on this laptop, but I have one major issue: in my country it only comes with a 670M, which - as I understand it - is powerful but stuck in 2010 Fermi-land.
Granted, it's more than enough for now. But I'd like for my purchase to be reasonably future-proof. I heard someone say they're going to do a refresh soon with Kepler video cards. I'm aware that you guys in the US already have the 660M, but do you think it's possible they'll revamp the European models in the near future (and before next year's brand new model, of course)?
At the moment I'm looking at 1200 euros for the 8gb of RAM, 670M and single 750gb 7200rpm HD. -
Asus just confirmed, Thunderbolt shipping out nxt week for G55, hopefully also for G75.
G55 Thunderbolt clarification - Page 3 -

Thanks Colpolite, for the Thunderbolt link as well. So they're putting Thunderbolt on the G75 later on... I wonder if this could be related to a possible GPU refresh, although I don't think so.

I have just finished reading through all the 43 pages of this thread.Great Thread Paul.
I am thinking about buying a G75VW with 660M but am not very sure about it because several people said in this thread that the screen quality is not good for a gaming laptop. In my country , it costs $2500 & I don't want to spend that much money on something which isn't totally worth it.
I'm a hardcore ASUS fan & i have only used ASUS laptops so far but when spending $2500 , i would want to have the best of the best which as far as i can see G75VW is NOT.It has grainy screens which gets washed out if you are not looking from the dead center of it.Has the slow Graphic card compared to the new MSI GT70 or Alienware models & you can't upgrade the CPU & GPU without voiding your warranty ( I think so ? ) .
So, should i wait for a 680M version or ASUS has no chances of realeasing it ever ?
The newest MSI Gt70's are soon going to be come with 680M which will put this 660M to shame.
I don't know what to do & am confused.
Can anyone ( who upgraded the all 4 rams or got access to the 2 ram slots under the keyboard ) provide a guide here , how to upgrade the el-cheapo WiFi card & the two ram slots under the keyboard ? -
I went with the Asus G75 and 660M because it was $1,250 USD and available locally which was another plus since my old laptop died that day. I already had a SSD, Blu-ray drive, and 2x4GB RAM to add to it.
Sure I would have liked a 680M, but the price would have went beyond what I was willing to pay. I was just glad to not be buying another HP. -
So guys can someone confirm to me that the Asus G75VW-DS71 it's not having a thunderbolt port.. and it's got a mini display port instead.. this is stopping me from buying this awesome laptop and I will have to buy a MACBOOK MD104 model which has a 650M Kepler gpu with 1gb ram instead.. I just hope the macbook has thunderbolt support under win7 .
Strange thing to me is that when I searched for Thunderbolt adapter .. cause the macbook doesn't come with an HDMI port the adapters seem pretty similar to the ones for displayport.. so this is all really strange. Any considerations.. I'm hearing from you guys.
I was wanting to buy this asus lappie but the guy I'm going to buy it from said it's got a displayport.. so .. honestly don't know what to do -
This is the picture of the thunderbolt / minidisplay port adapter to HDMI they have the same pinout and connector

Hi All
I have been ploughing through several forums and trying several of my own options but wonder if anyone has managed to resolve the problem god damn "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" message when starting an installation of 64bit Win7 SP1 from digital river. I have tried several DVD's and and also USB drive using the Windows download tool.
I have spent many hours on this, but as I am sure you were when you got yours I am really wanting to get this beast up and running to it's full potential and really in need of advice.
When select the RSTe software it it not likethe drivers for this and coming up with the message. My BIOS has all it's factory default setting with AHCI enabled and is running on the latest 210 version.
I have a G75VW-T1019V, 660m, 16gb ram, Seagate 750gb HDD and a new 250gb SAMSUNG SSD
I someone can help can help as I am seriously losing patience with this !! Although I have to say I am very impressed so far with everything else.
I look forward to some friendly advice or that GOD who helps me find the right solution.

Change the source, burn a DVD at very low speed.
I had this problem on USB. I found no solution to it. On DVD it worked perfect. -
The problem with using USB on this laptop is that all four ports are USB 3.0. It can have trouble reading the data since the proper 3.0 driver isn't installed.
I had all the drivers on a USB drive for after my Windows fresh install (from DVD). I couldn't read it due to the USB 3.0 port. In my case I had two drives, SSD and HDD. The HDD still had the driver folder, otherwise I would have needed either the USB or LAN driver burnt to a disc. -
I have just tested a G75 with only Windows 7 Ultimare 64 bit and my USB 2.0 external HDD works very well. I could get the Nvidia driver with no problem.
-
Is it normal for the power brick to make noises?
-
For those who have troubles with the USB 3.0 and Windows7 install, I know how get rid of the "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" error.
Go into BIOS and press F9 to reset settings and F10 to save and restart. Then boot immediately into the USB Win7 installer. Don't boot into any OS that has USB 3.0 drivers or you'll have to reset BIOS settings again. The install should work correctly now because USB 3.0 is disabled and the ports switched to USB 2.0. -
-
Yes, that is it. I'll see what can be done. At least the laptop itself works well.
-
I too have a very grainy display, such a let down, $2000 spent and this is the result.
I've tried to contacted Asus many times through email, and phone, they keep trying to give me an RMA, I don't want an RMA.
Why replace my panel with the SAME panel? It's not gonna do anything for me.
It looks great in game, it looks HORRIBLE on white space, I'm in visual studio for 14 hours a day, my eyes are killing me on this POS display,
They tell me they can't replace it with a panel of my choice, and they tell me if I replace it, it will void the warranty....
So am I supposed to do? Deal with this eye sore?
Love the laptop, hate the display, such a bad choice.
It's a shame to see them cheap out on parts just to make some extra profits, I used to stand behind Asus 100%, after this incident I'm not so sure. -
Hi folks... very helpful thread for people trying to make purchasing decisions.
Need help, if possible, please.
Have an older gaming laptop. The wife just started playing "The Secret World". I want to team up with her, but my bloody switchable graphics on the Acer Aspire 7750G won't run it. Well... it starts, then nukes even with lowest settings. Tried Leshcat drivers and several other tweaks.
Anyway, going to replace it with this ASUS G75VW-TS71. But before I spend the money, has anyone tried running that game on it?
If not, could someone please download it and try? I know that's asking a lot, but it is a free trial and the game is actually pretty fun. You'll be saving us $1200 if you can confirm playability. I'd be very grateful!

The Secret World is definitely playable in medium to high settings with a GTX 660m or GTX 670m. You are looking at around 45-50ish fps using 1080p native resolution and medium settings and if you want to go high and get upwards of 40fps then you will need to lower resolution to 768p but I don't recommend that since lowering resolution actually degrades the visuals even if the settings are on high so I would go native res of 1080p and medium settings.

For anyone with a i7-3720, or above, can you confirm the CPU will run the +400 MHz? I think clevo alows this through the bios but even if with an outside program such as ThrottleStop. I am looking at getting a BB version with 3610 but want to be safe for the overclock for a future upgrade.............
-
Question...does this laptop have the same power jack issues that plagued the G73SW? I have that model and am ready to switch because I have to RMA it again
-
So far none of them had that problem.

Hey All, (first post ever)
Just picked up my G75VW BB5 the other day, got a refurbished one. Anyways, I have so far added a 60GB SSD and have done a clean instal of Windows Ultimate and I have updated the drivers etc...
Now I want to know which programs are people using to OVERCLOCK? and at what setting are you achieving. I have not read all 45 pages but I am sure this was addressed somewhere. To my shock, I am having a hard time finding this info online using google.
Thank you in advanced.

For GPU use Nvidia inspector.
For CPU I won't tell you, it's too dangerous. Just let it like it is. -
After almost six months of hesitation about my new computer purchase I finally pulled the trigger. It's about time as my old computer broke back in May and I have to do with my smartphone and tablet since then.
I think that I got a really good deal that I just couldn't refuse.
ASUS G75vw-DS71 for $1,399 after tax and shipping. In addition there is currently a $150 mail-in-rebate from ASUS dropping my final price to $1,249.
The computer should be here next week, I'm so happy. -
A quick question about the G75: is the second Drive Bay Sata3 or Sata2?
Thanks
Peter. -
I'll be picking one of these up sometime in December to replace my ancient G71GX-RX05!
Should make for a nice gaming powerhouse/portable CCIE lab/development box.
Should I choose the SKU with a 660M or 670M??
I'm inclined to choose the 660M since it is newer tech (Kepler vs. Fermi) runs cooler and draws less power. Plus I've read that you can O/C it to 670 performance levels.
As far as storage goes, I plan on adding a 128GB Vertex 4 to install W7 Ultimate on courtesy of TechNET... -
Second bay it's SATA 3.
There is a new G75VX with 670MX that will out in December I think. If you can wait, it might be a good idea. 670MX should be around 15-20% better than 670M.
660M can OC, but it's not all a peach. You either force it to run in max performance only or try a vBIOS mod. Both are not great options. A good 660M OC will do 675M numbers.
670M is not locked and OC is a little bit easier. It will do 675M numbers without any problems. A good 670M is not much more hotter then a 660M. -
670mx should be adequate to put on the new up and coming g75VX. It would be a ton better if they could put a 675MX
-
They won't use 675MX as far as I know. Looks like 670MX and 675MX are not exactly the same.
