I will try and do a benchmark this weekend and let you know the results..as far as i remember last benchmark i did was to show a friend and the settings were

1080p,no AA,anistropic filtering was 1x ,geometric details High,
make sure the POwer profile is set to High Performance, dont remember if had the turbo button enabled ,and Mafia 2 gave me roughly 40fps or more...this was with the 270.61 drivers..
will try and post actual results as soon as i manage some time..

i somehow have a feeling either its a driver issue or a hard disk issue.Considering u installed windows a number of times leaves it to the hard disks...only if u could remove the OS hard drive and try installing windows on the 2nd hard drive and see if it works...but that would require a bit of courage ... :-|

also do u have the Power4Gear set to High Performance or Entertainment mode... ?

Also i would like to mention for the NVIDIA driver updates always unsinstall the older drivers before installing new ones.

i think i had provided the Link couple of pages back for the 270 drivers ..its NOT the 3D Vision CD package..

U will find the NVIDIA drivers for Windows 7 64-bit here NVIDIA DRIVERS 270.61 WHQL

after uninstalling the previous drivers download the new ones and select clean install from the menu..

the only problem i have after installing 270 drivers is that when not using 3D i have to keep the 3D vision disabled by pressing the ROG button otherwise the 2D videos start lagging...thats the only prob i m facing now...and thats just a driver issue..i guess i can live with that..

Just managed some time out from work..here is the benchmark..pic attached below..please excuse the low quality(taken from a smartphone :-|)

    Settings

    Power Profile : High Performance
    Turbo : Disabled
    Resolution : 1080p
    AA : Off
    Anisotropic Filter : 1x
    PhysX :Off
    Geometric Details : High
    Avg FPS : 43.4

Thats certainly impressive performance. I did try yet another completely clean install of 207. Apart from breaking my 3D Vision again, it wasn't performing quite as bad. Getting 37 instead of 34, but no where near the 43.4 your getting. Saying that, the performance your getting is way above any benchmarks I have seen elsewhere. For example, anadtech testing the g73jw only got about 37fps, as did notebookcheck.net. Your performance is so far above the rest, but well done :)

Out of curiousity, what are you other settings? For example, I am also running with ambient occulsion on and shadows set to high. Is yours the same?

As an aside, to anyone reading, I have never updated my BIOS. For the 3DE version what is the latest BIOS and is it worth updating? Does it improve performance?

Ah there we...i was wondering how i was getting such a performance boost above others...Ambient Occlusion was set to OFF.. :D..with Ambient Occlusion set to ON FPS drops to 37.1

rest with everything high vsync On and AO Off i get 42 or more most of the times..least has been 41.6

i have uninstalled a re-installed the 270 drivers to check if my IR emitter broke again..But it doesnt..it only broke once and thats the 1st time when i installed the 270 drivers..and that was because i did not uninstall the previous drivers and just proceeded with a clean install...In fact after uninstalling the previous ones even the Express install works for me...is there anything i m doing but u guys are not.. :/

Uninstall 267 > from Control Panel programmes and features > 1st the NVIDIA stereoscopic Driver followed by the Nvidia Display drivers > REBOOT > Install 270(Express or CLean) > REBOOT

Do not miss the REBOOT after uninstalling the previous drivers..and of course u will REBOOt after installing the New ones :p :D

Let me know if tried it and if fixed things..Ur problem is more of a software/driver issue..hence i m very hopeful that we can nail it..theoritically being software issue if mine works yours should.. :)

EDIT : About the BIOS update...I havent tried it yet..would like to read a bit about it before i take the plunge...will keep u posted on that...wouldnt want to mess around with the BIOS before educating myself a bit since the BIOS is sensitive to the most faintest tickle in the A$$.. :D

hey souravsunny yeah you can read my mind i was planning to buy a new hdd. This new ocz vertex 3 ssd is coming on may 6 in sweden. Eventhough it is sata3 and we have only sata2, I read somewhere it is not a crazy idea to use it anyway on our system.
So 2 weeks more patience. I will do a clean install on the ssd AGAIN.

Thanks for your posts souravsonny. I can get 3D Vision to work with 270, but only when I do express install and the performance takes a big hit. Still getting slightly better performance with 267 (38.5 vs 37 on 270) so sticking with it for now anyway.

Got another minor problem just now. Far from serious and I am sure its software related, but its a bit of a strange one. Since I have had this laptop, Cineplayer has always worked fine other than the stuttering issues mentioned earlier in the thread which I am not bothered about. However, I notice yesterday when demoing 3D to a friend that it no longer plays audio when I watch a video file from the harddrive. Let me clarfiy:

Playing games - audio is fine
On the desktop - audio is fine (get all the usual start up sounds etc)
Watching Youtube - audio is fine
Watching a Bluray movie in Cineplayer - audio is fine
Playing a movie file or music file in Windows Media Player - audio is fine
Watching the same movie file in Cineplayer - NO AUDIO

So for example, the 3D Demo file from the desktop plays audio in media player (though with 2 screens side by side), but in Cineplayer is now completely mute. Same goes for other demo files and digitial movie copies you get with double play burays. Yet Blurays playing in Cineplayer are fine.

Tried multiple Realtek drivers, tried multiple Cineplayer settings, tried uninstalling and reinstalling Cineplayer. Nothing works.

Minor issue since I can still play video files in Media Player, still play games, still play blurays etc, but its a bit annoying. No idea how long its been like this as I haven't tried using CIneplayer for HDD-based video for about a month until now.

hej souravsunny in deed in the beginning there was sd23 firmware which gave alot of trouble. I have been experimenting with different kinds of programs and turned of the apm and all but no improvement. i got 2 identical drives and for example looking pics with windows picture viewer and watching some movies (not all stutter though) it is clearly visible that on the os hdd it stutters/ delay and on the 2nd drive all goes sooo smooth. I was thinking if it is not the hdd then it is a faulty memory or faulty motherboard.

3 weeks ago my bluray player stopped working when i wanted to install games from dvd but dvd movies and bluray movies worked smoothly.
unfortunately i don't have another hdd to test with.
    anyway thanks for thinking along

i am now waiting for the new ocz vertex 3 ssd to come out.

Seems like a Cineplayer problem to me..some settings must have gone wrong..is it the updated version of Cineplayer u r using..?

yeah ..i m hoping as well that the ssd would put an end to ur problems.. :)

@Pierre2k...u can try the default settings that i have on my player..

Roxio Cineplayer > Settings > Audio

    Under Device select "System Default"
    Under Speakers select "2 speakers(Stereo)"
    Under Audio Processing select "Stereo"

Leave the "Enable loew frequency effect box unchecked...
Click Apply and OK...Restart Player..Check if it works..

cineplayer stores your settings for a particular file depending on the location so any problem once encountered will be likely to happen again.i had a similar issue with 2D files also opening in 3D conversion mode in cineplayer, try to change the location of the file.Copy and Paste it to a differet location in the same or the other hdd and try opening it from there.

Also please check that while playing a file with Cineplayer click on the speaker icon the taskbar and click mixer and check if Cineplayer appears on the list.there may be a horizontal scroll bar depending on the number of applications using sounds.check if cineplayer features on that list.

UPDATE : Successfully updated to BIOS version 205 with the latest WinFlash utility..No problems at all.

HDD Firmware update done as well..everything up and running smooth so far.

Thanks Jelski with the updates :)

Thanks for coming back. I had tried most of what you suggested but in the end I just used the partition to reset my entire laptop to factory settings. Got a 500GB USB 3.0 external hardrive so it was easy enough to back everything up and just wipe the system. Everything working again as it did before, including Cineplayer.

In other news, I recently ran the SMART diagnositc on my Harddrives using HDDScan. For the OS drive it flags up 6 End to End errors with a Red cross circle. Apparently this can suggest impending mechanical error, yet the drive sounds and performs absolutely fine. Also, Crystal Diskmark, HDD Scan checks, NB Probe, Windows 7 drive manager and Seatools show the drive as healthy?

About 2 months ago it gave me one Ultra DMA CRC error, but updating the firmware erased this and in the 2 months it was an isolated incident. To be honest, I actually think the new SD25 firmware is the cause of the new End to End error. I will just watch it for now, but its about 4 days since the error and I haven't had another one.

Thanks so much for your advice and help, souravsunny and Pierre2k. I really appreciate it!

I uninstalled the drivers first and then did a clean install with both the 267xxx and 270xxx and was able to get them running except for that Firefox 4 is still lagging as long as 3D Vision is enabled. I also tried disabling all Addons and Plugins but this didn't help. Can anybody help?

I also newly discovered that 3D Vision Live doesn't work anymore. Once I go to the website 3D Vision turns on, the movie loads but then I receive an error message from Silverlight saying that it's an "isolated storage operation" and that "Debugging resource strings are unavailable". It then says that the Silverlight Plugin has crashed. Does anybody have experienced something similar?

One other thing I am curious about - since you are all much bigger experts than I will ever be - is which parts/drivers need to to be updated in your opinion to get more performance.

Last thing: I have already done a lot of research about which processes and services can be disabled but does anybody have a link or list with these? Seems like there is so much bloatware running in the background.

Thanks a lot guys and enjoy your G73s (with hopefully less problems than I have)!!

For the disco effect to go away, try changing keyboard lights intensity. It goes away.

    obelixthegreat,

Recently bought Bad Company 2 via a recent EA download manager promotion but not downloaded and installed yet (already own it, and Vietnam, on the 360 and played them to death bot single player and multi so wasn't in a hurry)

When I get the chance I will test and let you know. However, all other games I have tried in 3D (Mafia 2, Half-life 2, GRID) are 120hz.

Didn´t Play BFBC2 in 3D yet, but the newest drivers didn´t do well for me. Higher temps, lower fps and lower overclocking. Wen´t back to the previous. Maybe if you are using the 270 drivers try to roll back.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only person struggling with the 270 drivers. I am back, and quite happy, with the 267 version. 270 lowered my framerate averages but also made them more unstable.

As an aside, recently completed Crysis played through on my G73 and whilst performing ok, the end did get pretty taxing. However, moved on the Crysis Warhead and, WOW, the performance improvement is insane. Far more stable, far smoother and arguably better looking to. If anyone has tried Crysis and been put off by its performance, I highly recommend giving Warhead a chance (Crysis 2 also runs well for those interested).

Jelski, started downloading BC2 last night (I only have a 2mb connection so it takes a while). Will keep you posted.

    hey guy's
    another qeustion
have installed the 267.76 drivers but my 3d emitter wont work now i installed the usb driver from driver 270 that didnt work
Also installed the 3d vision drivers 267.24 and 267.85 both wont work.
now i am wondering which version 3d usb emmiter driver you haev running with the 267driver package.

tomrow my ssd comes would be nice to have all things right straight away.

ok 3 times is a charm i geuss updated just now the 267 driver again and voila out of nothing the emitter is working again.
bfbc2 is working again with 120hz i wonder if others experienced the same else i might try to install 3 times the 270 driver. you never know.

ok had my ssd drive for a day now and the stutter is gone.
only i think the ssd performance is kinda low i know i dont own a sata 3 connection but would expect lil bit more speed. i did all the updates suggested on various sites even checked my register file (which was already good)
attached i added the results for anybody curious how this ssd works on a g73jw system

No idea what type of performance you should get with an SSD, but I can say that your results are certainly now better than those of my standard momentus XT (SD25 firmware) drives. Glad it resolved your stuttering.

I don't appear to have any harddrive issues, but as you know, since I got the laptop in February I have never been able to play the "3D Demo" file in Cineplayer 3D without stuttering problems (tried playing from both drives and even from the ASUS Utilities & Drivers DVD). Well, that's finally resolved!! Not sure when any of you guys last updated Cineplayer, but there was a new patch released at the end of April. After installing that all of my previous stuttering woes are resolved and it plays right through, in full 3D with no problem! Hooray!

Going back to Jelski's earlier BFBC2 119Hz issue, I can confirm that it plays at 120Hz on my machine. I do get the "disco light" effect though unless the keyboard lights are either off or on full brightness. Half brightness causes them to blink.

most problems are software related i think you can be unlucky with a monday monring built part in your pc always. I Would get a new gen ssd in your setup i run a i7 740qm and it is still superfast with ssd. btw which country are you in cant find any price yet on the g74 systems.

Hi guys..How u all been..have been awfully busy with work so havnt had much time to peek in here..hope u all are doing fine..

just installed the NVIDIA 275.33 drivers...and would like to report that there is an awesome increase in th 3D quality..
As for games i got a 4fps increase on Dirt 3 and 3fps drop in Mafia II..doesnt make much of a difference..

One problem is with newer driver the 3D vision driver is bundled with it..hence u have to keep a check on keeping the 3D vision disabled with the ROG button everytime when u are not using the 3D..or else u might experience stutter in normal applications..i guess i can live that..

So far the Lappie has been awesome and has taken everything i have thrown at it without breaking a sweat..its pretty fast for my needs..which is a plenty..i dont know how much faster a laptop can get and whether u can really appreciate the difference in the real world and not on piece of paper as of now...future would be different...6 months up and i m glad that i m very happy with my purchase,..might upgrade to a 500 GB ssd later once they are available at decent price

as for G74..i dont the design on it..it looks bulkier and the rear vents are not stylish as the G73...same design with a GTX 560 M would have been better in my opinion..

    hey souravsunny
i have th enew driver installed as well and indeed the 3d is stuttering everything quite annoying if you ask me. even when watching simple pics.

i have had my ssd drive now for a month on this system and i love it too alot now so super quick. somethign was really wrong on the old drive.

anyway's the new g74 are coming in july it is amazing how quick this laptop has gotten "old" it is not even 6 months

yeah...i would agree its kinda annoying that everytime u go full screen for a movie or youtube videos u gotta hit the ROG button..even while playing online games but then i just rationalize that its just the press of one button...mayb ur previous stuttering experience is takin toll on u .. :p

otherwise its been great ...playing blu ray...watching movies in 3D...playing games on Full HD without trouble,,no overheating issues so far...tho i think i gotta clean the fan sometime..i havnt done it in 4 months.. :-(..everything i got from this laptop has been amazing..specially for the price..

yes ..its almost funny how fast technology is progressing...u buy a laptop to be future proof for a year or 2 and already there is a newer model out there..but i still feel ...it can give you some good service for a at least a year more if not two..before the hardware starts feeling a bit outdated..unless u are one of those likes to stay updated... :)

Just another Note ...get a can of Compressed air and Clean up up the vents...causes a drop of around at least 10 deg C flat...provided u are idling at high temp...I was...both CPU and GPU at 60 degrees...after a cleaning job CPU is down to 46 deg..on idle ..and GPU at 48 at idle and 78 deg on load thats like 30 mins of DiRT 2 ..Strongly recommend everyone to do that...u can follow the discussion in "get out the air cans" thread and the video here
