Beautiful review. This thing is a beast. Though with an upgrade to the 8700s it would have really flown. Still its mxm. I love that silver finish, and the blue evil eye. Great looking laptop. Says I can't rep you. :(

    Thanks. :)
This is the fastest Asus I've ever test, the 8700M GT SLI also runs very cool, GPU core never go beyond 75*C, but it's a huge notebook.

Whaaaaow.... nice benchmarks Ken!! Would you have time to do a HD Tune benchmark too? I'm curious what performance you get with the dual 200gb 7200rpm on this machine :)

    That's pretty impressive!
How are the temps on the CPU/GPU/HDD? and how's the build quality and keyboard like?

Oh.. I've got another question Ken. With the new Direct Console 2.0 does this mean there's no p4g?

Runs pretty cool, GPU only goes up to 75*C, CPU around 65*C, you don't feel the heat when using the laptop, but upper right hand side above the numeric keypad where the video cards are feels warm.

Keyboard feels like G2S keyboard, no flex and it feel very close to the desktop keyboard.

It still use P4G to manage performance and battery life, the Direct Console 2.0 allows you to overclock the CPU just like the Turbo Gear in C90s, but the Direct Console only works in Vista.

Battery life is 1 Hour 18 minutes on battery saving mode.
Weights 10 pounds and it does not accept 800 MHz DDR2 RAM since it's still a Santa Rosa Platform.

Yeah the G series doubles as a rave light show when you are in a pinch.

Thats one of the main reasons I would go with the new M series, it looks sleek and can fit in anywhere.

Supose id prefer the crazy looks and flashy lights of the Asus G series to the black brick that is a Sager tho.

BRILLIANT. I would have never thought of that as a viable option for the flashy lights. I think that would be a good use if you really did need some flashing lights for anything. (Senior Prom, anyone? xD [I heard that my class' Senior Prom could have used some help back in high school.]) Actually, that sounds like the best use for something like that. A computer should not have to be flashy just to show off that it is a "gaming" PC though. To each company their own, I suppose.

Those are some pretty nice specs for the computer, but there should be nothing less to be expected of them. (Wish I could afford one of these, but it wouldn't be very practical for carrying around college. At least with how "weak" I am. )

You saw the video, the built quality is the best I've never seen in any Asus notebooks, but remember one thing, not everyone like the style, you either hate it or love it. :)

Hey GenTech, nice review :) Last questions before I buy it.

    1) Can you play old games with the SLI technology?

    2) Can you turn off all the lights on the computer if you want to (to save battery)?

    2: Very good.

    3: 4 speakers on G70S but M70 has a subwoofer, M70S sounds better.

Hello, i was watching the videos from Crysis, and I noticed some lag sometimes... Is this something on the video or the game lag´s sometimes while playing??

I've downloaded the same video of the Crysis running on G2 and it was normal, without any lag's...

GenTech, how is the noise from the the fans when you play or do more "ordinary things" like writing (e-mails,msn etc.)

I know it is quieter than G1, but I don't know how much noise a G1 makes.

    :tongue: JOY!!!!::tongue:

The wailing, gnashing of teeth and agonizing research is finally over. Moments ago, a ginormous wheelbarrow jammed with Benjamins was happily sent to GenTech, in exchange for the breathtaking beast that is the Asus G70S-A1.

The only thing more painful than the research it took to get here is the agonizing wait for the UPS truck to bring my new baby home. Next milestone is awaiting the successful order/payment confirmation call-back from GenTech....

 ...Hey, wait a sec. Did you hear that? Is that a truck outside!?!? The order was placed a whole 6 minutes ago, so it's not too soon for the truck, right?!?! I better run outside and check, just to make sure!

ROFL :) Nice. Hope you get it real soon and enjoy it.

nilssoneric: Ken seemed to get everything working in the main post (see Windows XP screenshot). He usually posts the driver information when he has the time, in the main post. So you may need to wait for a little while. :)

    NILSSONERIC:

Agree with E.B.E. that Ken at GenTech may be your best resource. At the bottom of GenTech's G70 review above are screenshots of XP Pro Device Manager, showing successful install of all XP Pro components except the ability to overclock.

Check out the info above if not done so already, then maybe give Ken a call. Even if you purchased your G70 elsewhere, I cannot imagine Ken would ever refuse to help anyone.

I ordered my G70 yesterday with XP Pro from GenTech and, based on conversations with vendors and a lot of research, I have 100% confidence in GenTech's ability to do what all vendors agree is a difficult task, and that's installing XP Pro on a G70.

The G70s is advertised in Australia as having a inbuilt TV tuner, so this may be incorrect? and where can I find a English manual for the G70s, plenty of Greek, Chinese and Portuguese manuals, but none in English.

Why the Asus G70S comes with SLI? SLI is in discussion for ages now :(. Bad support for both games and drivers, stuttering and frame delays and high power consumption. Notebooks with a single (!) 8800M GTX like the Clevo M570 barebones are as fast as the Asus G70S and cheaper. So most reviews say the G70S is badly designed in matters of the gpu.

    Hi everyone,

I really need help. I made this downgrade to WIN XP and but I have ATI's HD 3650 card in it. Tried out every drivers I have found.

So please help, how can I get HD 3650 work with Win XP in ASUS G70S?
