Still, just escalate it as much as possible lol. That's very unacceptable.

Hmmm aren't you speaking of issues with your laptop caused by people at a service center? lol

i dont think that the people at the service center caused the issues. i think whoever desgined/was responsible for building the computer itself is responsible.

apparently this is a common problem amongst owners of this model as are all the other problems i have experienced.

There is a post or thread here somewhere on how to fix this issue with the power bottom.
Sorry I don't have time to hunt it down for you. But from what I read its not very hard to do. Good luck.

If i remember correctly, just run/slide a strong magnet around the area right of the touchpad and it will work.

Hey man thanks for this. It appears as though to get it to work I have to do this trick every time as opposed to just once.

Anyway thinking about getting my notebook replaced. Not sure if ASUS will allow me to get a refund or an upgrade. Speaking of which anyone have any opinions on that 16gb Lamborghini notebook? Is it plagued with problems like the g53? What other ASUS notebooks have more than 8gb ram and better processers than the I7-2630qm?

    Thanks again wolf.

    Edit:

Hey maybe one of you guys can help me out with my search for a new notebook. These are the specifications i am after:

    Between 14.0-17.0 inch screen.
    More than 8gb ram (12 or 16 I guess)
    Better processer than the I7-2630qm

    Gracias.

Here is the model I am all for:

    Amazon.com: MSI G Series GT683DXR-603US 15.6-Inch Laptop: Computers & Accessories

As you can see it's an MSI but I don't care about brand. The cost of it is actually cheaper than the Asus after I upgraded my Asus. I will be getting this msi or something similar once the time comes. I have a friend who has the step down model and 2 other friends who still own older msi gaming laptops that are still chugging along fine. I've read numerous reviews that msi stands by their products, unlike another company I won't mention. *coughs* Asus *coughs* Heck I've seen Msi release XP drivers for most of their systems!

All the rest are pretty good I was also looking at the toshiba qosmios (the gaming series for toshiba) Alienware is good but overpriced if you ask me. Sony doesn't really have gaming laptops per say, Acer doesn't really have gaming laptops either per say. But you can look at the specs and go from there. All those brands are good, technically Asus is good, it just seems they treat the people who bought the lower end machines better than the people who buy the high end machines. I personally would look at MSI's Gaming Series, then Toshiba Qosmio Series than go from there. Lamborghini model's I really couldn't tell you much about, sorry.

Any of the half-sized cards. I really can't say on translating EUR to US$ but I know I paid $27 (US) for mine on amazon. The cost will just depend on who still has one and how high your welling to go. No matter what you are looking at a decent upgrade from the crappy wireless card that is currently in the laptop. The full sized cards won't fit if I remember correctly. Or at least you wont be able to screw them to the chassis/motherboard.

Here's a crazy thought but has anyone attempted to install XP x64 on their G53? Were you able to find all the drivers?

I tried to, unsuccessfully. All but the graphics drivers would install and you can't do much on windows graphics drivers. Unless someone has managed to create a driver for windows xp and/or xp x64 I think we be boned on running xp on the G53

I downloaded all those and still won't install, it does the same issue we originally had early on where you couldn't update windows 7 graphics drivers unless you replaced a file that would allow the installer to recognize the hardware. So just stating you may get the stock ones to work, but I couldn't. Windows 7 drivers work ok now though. Not on XP of course, but just saying that there are no more problems with updating the graphics drivers for 7.

My ac adapter for my asus g53sw was stuck in the port, and after pulling it out, a needle like piece came out as well. Might be a dumb question but, What should I do now?

I was on an international Delta flight (10+ hours) yesterday and when I plugged in my G53SW, the transformer won't even light up..... does this mean I cannot use my laptop even if taking the battery out? I tested both ports next to me but same result...

You sure the plugs you where using were even hot? If it not lighting up its either the wall socket dead or the power brick has died.
Taking the battery out will not make a difference, well unless the battery is some how causing a short, then maybe it would power on.

Ive had Dell bricks just stop working before. The light itself may have turned off because the ports were cold, though.

Unrelated, but I just got a G53SW, upgrade from a G60V, or VX, not sure. The blue one with a 260m. Everything with this seems to be OK outside of the fact that all the ASUS drivers and utilities were fritzing and had to be reinstalled, but I was surprised to learn that the "Asus Data Security Manager" isn't part of this model. I tried installing it and would only get a "This program will not work on this computer" message. I used that program A LOT, to say the least.

Any workarounds, or alternatives? I just want something that was as barebones. Simple password that unlocks private folders/files.

    What do?

At one point, I had my G53SW-XA1 overclocked. I remember going and downloading forceware drivers and all that. Overclocking to play BF3.

Well, I done messed that up. Because I downloaded NVidia's 301.24 drivers.

Now when I try to apply any changes with MSI afterburner, the VDDC immediately drops to .8120 and my clock speeds tank. Near as I can tell the only way to revert is to reboot.

Are there newer drivers that allow overclock, or should I go back to the previous version? Also, I can't remember where I got those modified drivers from.

My GPU-Z says I have the nvlddmkm 8.17.13.124 (ForceWare 301.24)
    BIOS Version 70.06.26.00.0A

Crap, I think I may have made a $350 mistake.

The power jack on my G53SW broke - the pin came out in the plug. ASUS support was rather ominous - saying that it might be considered user damage and they might charge me to repair it, even though the warranty hasn't expired, so I decided to just solder on a new jack myself. I'm generally handy with a soldering iron and I've done this repair before with other laptops.

I thought everything went ok. But after putting it back together I can't get it to turn on. The charge light turns on fine (and is now green from me fully charging the battery), but absolutely nothing happens when I press the power button.

I'm not sure what's gone wrong. Static ssock damage could be an issue. I tried to ground myself to metal things on the desk periodically while I worked, but I wasn't strapped to anything. I also put more torque that I wanted to on the motherboard trying to get the old jack off. I had a of a time getting all the solder points liquid enough at the same time.

I thought taking it apart and putting it together went ok. There's on extra connection spot on the motherboard that I'm not sure about. It's next to two other plugs from the monitor and for the life of me I can't find anything to plug into it.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: The power button cable had come disconnected on the power button side. Yay!

Hi guys! Got my G53SW-XA1 couple of months ago and was totally impressed by it. I primarily use it in editing wedding videos.I couldn't be happier.

My only gripe is that the copying speed of sd cards is painstakingly slow. I check it and it's only averaging 10/mbps. I check the WEI and yes, the data disk transfer rate has the lowest score 5.9. Is this normal to our beloved G53? Is there a driver I should upgrade or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try a mix of soft soap and water or isopropyl alcohol and water. Vinegar and water might also work. I use lens cleaner on mine, not sure what's in said lens cleaner though.

Edit: It worked, but fingerprints get on this thing so fast, already I got at least 1/3 of the ones I had before back. Makes cleaning it seem pointless.

Yeah it's a little pointless, I discovered as well. I do try to keep the screen clean as much as possible. Other's may not have this issue but I have the issue of spraying when I talk sometimes. Not all the time, so my screen gets dirty quickly. Other than that, I usually clean my screen once a week and the laptop once a month, that includes blowing the vents out with compressed air. Unfortunately fingerprints are kind of a downfall but at least the laptop isn't made out of the gloss finishes like others have.

Argh, they are so full of crap. That isn't user damage. I've just sent off my G53 to be repaired for this very problem the second time in less than a year of ownership. I'm glad it worked out for you, though, and you fixed it yourself, because I just got an email saying my repair is being delayed for a month. And now I have to wait at least another four weeks in addition to the two I've already been waiting. Sigh.

Has anyone had a problem with a rattling noise in the right side of the vent? Even on idle, it makes this sounds and it goes away for a mere 30 seconds and returns again.

You should be able to use Fn key + F2 or you can right click on the
Battery icon by the clock pick Power4Gear once its open there is a place
to enable or disable bluetooth while connected to power or when mobile.

I don't have any of these options. In P4G I just have to disable ODD (disabling that doesn't change anything) or camera.
Everything works well except that I cannot turn-off bluetooth radio :/

picked up a g53s with the gt460m, mouse and backpack. wasn't really going to get asus but randomly saw it on sale while going with a frd to ncix warehouse sale for 650 bucks so couldn't resist.

i love the mouse and general performance of this machine, but man i have 3 major complaints.
    1. the screen is actually really bad. i was upgrading from a 2 yr old dell studio. the colors is so much better, i actually feel bad for the ppl who paid top bucks for this thing when it first came out. the contrast is pretty bad, and the blacks... well it cant really count as black. it is pretty bright tho, not that it means much to me as i doubtanyone will be bringing this 8 pound brick outdoors to game.

    2. keyboard sucks. not so much as in the keys themselves (although there is some flex), but the general layout. keys are pretty small and the left shift key, that most ppl use for typing and gaming is like half the normal size so i always end up typing \ or \9 when i try to type (.

    3. i removed the ssd in my old laptop to put into this one. and holy was it hard. not a maor complaint but they really should make a easily accessible backplate like most others. I wanted to replace the thermal paste of the cpu and gpu with some AS5, but after the trouble i went thru to change the hd i got scared and gave up.

just my 2 cents... i know most ppl already had this rig for a while now.

i also need to upgrade the ram as mine only came with 4gb. CPUID states the factory ram (1x hynix 1033mhz cl9) is in ram slot #3 (kinda weird). the easiest ram slot thats user accessible (without needing to take out the metal mobo mount) i believe is slot#4. anyone know if i just plug my ram into that slot will it run in dual channel? or do i have to take the whole thing apart and plug into slot #1? please help... thanks so much

Okay, so a while back I talked about replacing my optical drive with another hard drive caddy for a third hard drive. Since I'm running pretty low on space, gonna prolly do that soon, just one thing.

    Amazon.com: Samsung SpinPoint SATA 5400rpm 8 MB Cache 1 TB 2.5-Inch Hard Drive (M8 HN-M101MBB): Electronics

This hard drive is the right size and everything, but with the 8mb cache, and 5400 rpm drive, I wonder if it would just be better to get a 750gb drive, like this one:

Amazon.com: Western Digital WD Scorpio Black 750 GB SATA 3 GB/s 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache Internal Bulk/OEM 2.5-Inch Mobile Hard Drive: Electronics

I don't think I'll need those 250GB more that badly, the price isn't a problem, since they are about the same price. Will the 1tb be too slow, and will the 750gb one be so much faster to make it worth getting that one?

    What do you guys think?

It all comes down to what you'll put on the drive. If it's stuff like, pictures, music and videos, the 5400RPM won't be a problem and you won't notice a performance difference. If you if you install programs though, i'd go with 7200RPM. If you can find a Hitachi 7K750 for cheaper than the scorpio black, then i'd go for that, but they became hard to find since WD bought Hitachi's HDD division. That's also partly why the scorpio black is still way over priced, that drive used to be around 80$ and the 7K750 around 70$ pre-flood.

I want to put my downloads, videos, music, basically everything but games/programs. I suppose I should get the 1TB hard drive then.

I narrowed it down to two drives:

    http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digit...tebook/dp/B005DVJJWQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

    or

    http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SpinP...LTBC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1332859212&sr=8-5

One is cheaper, but might the western digital one be more reliable? I'm willing to spend a little extra to get a quality drive. I don't have any experience with Samsung drives.
