Thanks for the tip, I was thinking that was how it was done but wanted to confirm.

I'll send you 10 DVD's if you burn a second copy for me. My dvd burner was bad when I got my laptop, long story short, so was my burn of the AI recovery when I tried using it.
Actualy all I really need to do is to some how restore the hidden partition since it was messed up by my bad AI recovery disk. Then I could make my own.

I would suggest you download a OEM copy of windows 7 x64 and burn it onto a DVD. There are quite a few links to the image file given in this forum. I would install a fresh copy of windows, use the serial that came with your laptop. After that is done, use the Driver DVD that came with your computer to install all of the drivers, and you are good to go, computer will run even better than if you were to use the 5 DVD recovery. Good luck!

I have W7 Ultimate and pretty much everything else. Fresh install is no problem.
I'd just like to also have the original disks plus the option to restore the hidden partition back to factory state on hand.
Really pisses me off that the DVD burner was bad out of the box and that my DVD's aren't any good.
I want to be able to restore it back to factory state in the event I decide to sell this G53SW-XN1 some day.
Normally for me that isn't long. I'm always buying new and more updated computer equipment. I'm sure in 6 to 8 months it'll be time then this will have to go.

    Hey guys,

i just got my G53S 6RAM of newegg and a 4gb along with it. i tried installing the RAM in the slot under the keyboard, but the laptop wont boot, i mean can feel the hard disk running but the screen wont turn on as well the lights.

    RAM: G.SKILL F3-10600CL9S-4GBSQ ,DDR3, CL9-9-9-24, SO-DIMM

    Thank you

Edit: sorry, my question is is it because the added RAM is in the 4th slot ? or because its G.SKILL?

Sounds like a compatibility issue between gskill & the factory installed ram.
Remove the gskill see if it once again boots, if so its probably just a really bad mismatch.

Its not really good to mix memory chips, this is why, you run into problems.
Memory chips should be bought in matched pairs & as much as you want to run at the same time
for a better chance if getting a second pair they will match the other set since there both got at the same place and time.

I mixed my ram but consider I got very lucky that they worked well together, could have very well went the other way. Been there, done that.

You can download a small program called CPU-Z on the SPD tap it will show info of what name brand is installed and other info.
Hyundai is what came in mine, Nanya is what I added to it and worked well with the HY chips.

Hey guys should I buy bf3 on my xbox or my new Asus g53sw. I don't got really any pc games yet, so I kind of want to get one.

Will I be able to play medium settings with a 1368x768 at 45 FPS on average?

You could also order a better adapter like an Intel 6200 and swap it with the one in your laptop.

The PC version is better in the fact it looks better and can support up to 64 player multiplayer, not to mention the obvious benefit of using a keyboard and mouse.

The xbox version is better in the fact that you don't have to install "Origin" and Punkbuster on your computer. And to even play the single player, you have to have a web browser open so you can select the game type, Origin up and running, and Punkbuster runs as a service so it's always on. Granted, you can edit it so that Punkbuster runs manually instead of automatic, but its still ridiculous that all three has to be on. EA really needs to learn from Valve on how to do a digital content manager.

So depending on what kind of person you are, the PC is better if you don't mind the addons to even make the game work and the xbox is better if you already have a xbox live account that you're paying for already. I'm just pissed off that EA/Origin was hacked and they failed to notify me until 3 months after it happened when they were getting legal inquires. So don't mind me if I sound bitter... btw, I have the PC version and there really isn't much of a substitute for 64 player multiplayer match.

As of today still only the BIOS 203 First Release.
I been searching around for any modded bios, with no luck.
Found this site, but without being a member you can't even search for G53Sw.
Thinking about becoming a member so I can request a modded bois with unlocked options.
I'm tempted to try modding myself, but don't have the time it looks like it would take to learn all the steps.

Anyone have pictures of the asus g53sw-xn1 motherboard and its layout?
Also know where the bios chip is located and if its interchangeable or soldered in?

I don't have a picture of the layout but I know that the BIOS chip is soldered onto the board directly from the last time I took mine apart. It's on the opposite side of the CPU.

Thanks for the reply. I had mine apart not long ago but didn't think to look.
Ya had a feeling it was soldered, going to be risky if I can get a modded bios.
Sure would hate to loose the laptop to a bad flash\bad bios.
To bad they don't start using interchangeable bios chips like a desktop motherboard.
Sure would make it easier to swap out chips in case of a bad flash.
I may have to take this one a part to get numbers off the chip to see if I can find a replacement in advance before a mod test flash.

Edit: anyone else getting this toolbar thing at the bottom of your screen?
How could I remove that?? "if its a new part to this site" its in my way, plus I don't like it. lol

Late to the party with my memory problems, I guess. I've got a G53SW-XN1, and I picked up 4 x G.skill F3-10600CL9S-4GBSQ (PC3-10600, 1.5V, 9-9-9-24, 4GB each), for a total of 16GB. Took apart my notebook completely, even replacing the stock 4GB with a fresh G.skill. Buttoned everything back up, booted (showed 16GB on POST!). After about a minute in Windows (7 Home Premium), BSOD (0x3B, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION). Reboot, this time it just locks up after logging in. Great. Running MemTest86+ as I type... It's about half way through the first pass, and it's already up to 367 errors. But the errors are spread across all 4 sticks. What are the chances that I actually received 4 bad ones?

Has anyone else had any problems with filling all 4 slots? I'm just looking for any possible ideas before I start tearing it down again. As soon as the MemTest finishes, I'll pull 3 of the 4 and try again, adding them back in one at a time until it chokes.

No problems with running 4 chips here. Be best you check 1 chip at a time.
That way if only 1 or 2 are bad you will find the correct one to not use.
Mark bad chips with a x good with a check with a ink pen so not to get them mixed up.

I know you didn't ask me, but I am running 4 sticks as well.

I would really think about testing each stick individually, may not want to, but those errors may only be on a few sticks and not all of them. Attached is a txt file of my ram specs and I have had no issues.

Here's to hoping you figure things out.

If your extremely careful you should be able to leave the screws out, keyboard & mouse loose so you don't need to put everything together with each single memory check.
I just connected the keyboard wires & disconnected them as needed to check each stick of mine before moving forward or closing. I also left the keyboard loose, just setting unclipped for quick easy access.

Remove all chips, use the top memory slot since its the easiest to access. Test one chip at a time.

I'm using the original two chips that came in this laptop plus two I had laying around from another laptop pull/upgrade.
So I'm running mixed ram, with luck they all worked together well. CPU-Z Ram info

Ok - I'm having serious issues with the touchpad on this laptop.

After use - anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour - the touchpad will become erratic, making the use of the touchpad near redundant as the pointer will move in a way that makes it very hard to accurately move things etc.

As an example - you would use the touchpad to drag from right to left, the pointer will go from right to left, however mid drag the pointer will move an inch or 2 lower/higher (still going from right to left) such that now its no longer where my finger is - yet I haven't moved the finger in an up/down motion.

The issue is fixed when I reset the PC - so this indicates to me it's software/driver rather than hardware - though I'm happy to be proven wrong!!

Is my laptop a dud or is there a fix that I'm missing?

    Cheers in advance.

I don't use the trackpad much so I can't say if there is a problem with it. External USB mouse mostly here.
Have you tried reinstalling the driver or checked to see if there is a newer driver available?
Check the driver dates in divice manager. At the Asus site there is Synaptics Touchpad driver 2010.10.29 and also Gaming Mouse Driver 2010.11.23 under Utilitys.
Install those to see if they correct the problem. Also may need to update or reinstall the ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities.

I have found the solution for this. It is because i didn't know i had to put a little of force when installing the ram. I would just clip it in half way, thats why it wouldn't boot

Thank you zxTheWolfxz for your effort.

Wow that's great! Glad you found the problem.
Don't know why I didn't say to check the seating, I been doing tech support since 2001.
But you have to start some where at that point it looked like a good place to start.
    Enjoy your new ram.

Thanks for your input, guys. I pulled all four and tested them individually in another laptop (one that only required 2 screws to get to the RAM slots! :-D ). Each one checked out fine after a full pass in MemTest. Just for grins, I popped them all back in one more time in the G53 (because who knows; maybe I just seated one of them poorly the first time), and ran MemTest again. It was looking hopeful... and then the errors started flying in around 20% completion of the first pass.

I'm guessing there's just something about this RAM that isn't compatible with the chipset or memory controller. I'm going to hit up ASUS and G.skill techsupport and see if they've got any known issues, and then exchange it for something else (G.skill makes a 10666 chip that they recommend if the 10600 doesn't work for any reason... though the specs on what I've got now match the stock memory exactly).

    Thanks again.

    Hey Guys,

I am a new member here.

    Using a G53SW-A1 from India.

The LCD went Kaput the next month of purchase. I had to change it. The service center here provided me a Matte Samsung 314C instead of a AUO or a Hannstar. EDIT: the Samsung panel can be found on the N55SF. NBR has reviewed this and state that its a very good panel. So I am good.

Everything except the speakers is a Beast. The PC is ultra silent.even at 100% the sound is not overpowering.

The built in speakers at stock are total crap. They actually come to life if you install the Realtek Xfi 2.67 Mod and turn on Dolby Digital. That works.

Any suggestions running the laptop neat? I have been playing BF3 on Ultra at 1400(I dont mind playing at lower resolutions) and it is AWESOME!!!

Will load up Skyrim and ACR in coming days.

    Thanks

    Anvancy

Not sure were you got your ram, but read around at Newegg feedback for your model and other GSkill could help you pick the correct ones to work with your setup.
Seems I remember reading there "newegg" one type of GSkill worked "reported by a G53SW owner" but another of there "gskill" ram didn't.

 a question about the "DVD super Multi" drive.... anybody else notice that theirs doesnt like "DVD+RW" disks?

Mine is fine with DVD-R, but I tried to burn a DVD+RW today and it choked on it. When I put the disk in the drive, it made all kinds of nasty clicking noises for about a minute, and ImgBurn couldn't find a disk in there. I tried with a couple of different disks, I'm wondering if I have a "bad batch", or if the drive just can't deal with them. (ASUS site doesnt have any detailed specs on it... )

BTW, the DVD+RW disk in question is currently burning OK in an old HP machine next to me!

Has anyone had any wonky problems with their fans? Right now I'm at about 70'C CPU (MAX) and 82 GPU (MAX) while running SWTOR at the lowest settings. (Personally, I hardly see any difference with everything on High.)

I don't think I should be that hot. But even if I was, my fan is revving from high, low, high, low, high, low. It's kind of annoying. I would mind it less of it was high all the time, but the on and off is driving me crazy. And when it's high, it's quite loud. Especially to my wife who the fan is actually facing.

I am not using any mods or overclocks, undervolts, etc. Power4Gear is set to Entertainment Mode (5-81% CPU state) The only mods I've done were to replace my screen with a V4. That's it.

Any help would be appreciated, like a program suggestion for something that would better control the fans, and settings would be great.

    Thanks.

I've had the G53sw-xa1 for a few weeks now and it is great. Thought I'd post some experiences:

    1. Like anvancy said, everything is great except sound on speakers.

It would be interesting to see posts of users that had decent sound and the exact driver/setting profiles they use.
*** Anyone who feels it sounds ok willing to post exact drivers, install order, and settings? I've seen some previous posts, but they are kind of vague.
Maybe I've got the wrong drivers or such...I followed the recommendations by sarge "G73SW and G53SW: Latest drivers and everything you need for a fresh install" post. I installed the Realtek drivers along with Sound Blaster X-Fi software. I've tweaked anything possible to tweak.
Currently I'm running sound to the creative D200 bluetooth speaker. And every time I have to revert to laptop speakers I cringe.
Furthermore the F10 -F12 key volume controls do not seem to work outside the laptop speakers.

    2. The Atheros AR9002WB-1NG works fine for me. At first it would only support Wireless or Bluetooth, but funny enough I installed an Asus USB BT211 bluetooth dongle and when removed noticed that I have both!!
So IMHO obviously driver related, not card limitation.
Both work great at the same time now - no need to choose. Without the dongle.

    3. Been running Skyrim at ultra with .ini tweaks and shadows to med. Average 25-30 fps. Beautiful! - both on this and an IPS monitor. Now trying to find 5-10 more fps without losing ultra to add some specific mods that slightly hurt fps. GPU is 99% and stays at 85degC (no overclock), which is acceptable.

    4. I added a Crucial SSD and only downside is that I have no time to do anything else when it boots (used to get a coffee)...very worthwhile upgrade.
I have yet to put original drive back in - had to order a caddy (was not included) and now need to find screws at specialized bolt store (even computer shops don't carry the 2.5 bay anchors...). When I do that, I'll probably reload everything to move much of it to the non-SSD. I always hated reinstalling windows, but usb flash install and the SSD make it a very short process.

    5. No trouble with the DVD on either R+ or - disks. Used +R for imaging backup and restore without problem.

Btw -really good suggestion by kaworu876 on the power plug elbow adapter.

Lots of good info on this forum, thanks to all. (I've been lurking a while)

Post a screen shot of ThrottleStop. You might not have it setup correctly.

Unfortunately there is no program that will control the fans of the GPU or CPU, they are purely temperature dependent. Now, to elucidate the reason behind the high/low switching of the fan; the GPU on the Asus G53SW has 4 settings, idle, low, medium and high. The GPU fan will kick from medium into high mode at around 80c on most models. Since your GPU seems to be sitting at around 80c (just like mine does), it will frequently fluctuate in the range of 78 to 82, depending on the load. Every time it crosses the 80c threshold, it will kick into the high setting which is significantly louder than the medium fan setting, everytime it cools the GPU below 80, it goes into medium mode, hence the "high, low, high, low" revving of the fan. The only way I can think of to remedy this, is either getting a notebook cooler which will cool the temps around 3-4 degrees celsius to keep it below 80c, or run the game at a higher graphics setting, putting a bigger load on the GPU, and keeping it above the 80c threshold. I also have the same situation in certain games (Skyrim never hits above 80c for some reason, and I have been playing the game a lot recently, so no problem there, but other games like Crysis 2 will frequently go above that temp causing the higher fan speeds, thank goodness for my awfully loud sound system to muffle out the fans!) :D Anyway, I hope this sheds some light onto your "problem"!

Might be a stupid question, but worth asking, the laptop has throttling issues only on a select few games (GTA 4, Dirt 3, SC 2 come to mind), are you perhaps running the laptop on battery? If so, then there is your problem, if not, something might be wrong with your laptop if you cannot play "any" games on it...

    hey everyone,

I'm having some Bluetooth driver issues. i recently did a clean format and used the guide to reinstall all necessary drivers. Unfortunately, the bluetooth driver did not recognize my bluetooth module, and did not complete installation. I tried windows update, but there is still an exclamation point next to " Generic Bluetooth Adapter" in device manager. I have no precise need for bluetooth, but if it's there, i would like it to work hehe.

    Thanks!

I think the latest driver is a update for the original. Another words I think you may have to install the original driver first then install the latest over it.

I ran into this problem on something, but not sure if it was the bluetooth.
    Just a thought.

Anyone having issues with the keyboard skipping letters while typing. Sometimes I have to slow down my typing to prevent this or if i get too fast on typing i have to backspace and retype or find my goof and correct it. I have tried cleaning the contacts on the keyboard ribbon thinking it was dirty. (Though I take care, dust can still find places that are hard to reach.) Anyhow, not the case. Anyone else having this issue and if so have you figured out a way to fix it? Thanks.

Installing the ATK package version 1.0.0014 as well as the keyboard filter fixed the missing keystrokes on my N50, my G73 never really suffered from it though.
