I imagine you'd do that again in a heartbeat, upgrading to an intel 6230 that is?

She/he probably meant if you had to buy another laptop that didn't come with anything better, would you would upgrade to the 6230 in a heartbeat.

Mine had an Atheros, and as time wore on I started having issues. The only fixes: 1.) either don't use bluetooth, to turn it completely off (which ruined the fact that my mouse was bluetooth, fortunately the mouse also had a usb cable.) 2.) Replace with another card (which I did temporary until I can do number 3.(had one laying around)) which brings us to 3.) Buy a new card such as the 6230 if you want both wifi and bluetooth. (which I want to do, so I'll be buying one here in about a month.) You could always buy a usb wifi but at the price that the 6230 is online, your better off with it.

Yeah, I need to get myself a 6230 then, I bought an Orochi which is BT so I want to be able to use BT and wireless without having the degradation I've heard people get. Ugh Asus use real cards :(.

The same mouse I have! I love the mouse, but not the atheros card. Yes I agree, Asus can't spend like probably $10 more to get a decent card? Come on! It sucks that right now I can't use the moue as BT with my G53 right now, just usb. But oh well, I'll get a 6230 soon enough and be rockin the BT with my Oorochi! Can't wait. (Wow never thought I'd be looking forwards to something I already had, lol)

Do you have a problem with microsleep on the orochi? if you let it sit for more than 5 seconds will it jump across the screen when you use it again? I didn't get to use mine for a long enough time to notice that.

Ah yes thats right :D Unless i see many people praise the big foot wireless card and the gap is big enough from the 6230 which at this moment is not, i dont feel like upgrading again anytime soon :p

    Bigfoot doesn't have bluetooth, so there's a - for the 1102/1103.

When I was able to use it as BT I had a jump like that. I looked it up and found out that the mouse has a 2 second sleep. It's annoying and a lot of people are complaining about it, but I've not been messed up much. When gaming I'm usually moving the mouse a lot so I never noticed it, it's when I'd stop for a moment, reading websites, going through forums and such. The reason it's that way is to conserve battery life, but a lot of people are complaining and suggesting maybe a 5-10 second timer or maybe a 1 min timer. So it's anyone's guess if an update will be released to fix it. Mine has been this way for quite a few months and the mouse has been out for like a year and these "issues" have been around since, so I don't know. I just know that the only "issue" i have is the "jump" and that's only because it takes a moment for the mouse to wake up. But it's not enough for me to return, as I've kept it this long.

Hey guys! Sorry for getting off track, but my laptop backpack arrived!! SO HAPPY! If anyone's trying to get backpack for their lappy, I highly recommend this! Awesome padding all-around, especially the bottom! Unlike any other backpacks out there..it's not ugly, slim yet spacious enough for laptop and a large text book, fairly low-profile and simple. Fits my G53SW-XN1 nicely with tiny extra room in the laptop compartment. If you want extra-extra protection, sleeve it up and it fits nice and snug :) But yeah, just wanted to let it out here..haha

    1) Throttlestop
    2) G53SW is the better deal over the SX model.

You might be able to find this on Amazon, but I bought my bag from Wal-Mart and have so much room! I can fit my laptop, power adapter, mouse, cooling pad, a couple portable hard drives, textbook and a few notebooks.

Walmart.com: HP Notebook Backpack, Black/Green: Computers

I'll try to search for it on amazon, but if there is a Wal-mart close to you, this is one heck of a bag for the g53sw.

Edit: I found an Amazon link:

    1. Throttlestop is about the only way to fix it, until they release a firmware update for the g53sw

    2. SW is better due to the fact that the 460M in it uses a 192-bit, compared to the 560M's 128-bits (at least in that laptop, from what i read), you could always overclock the 460M to the 560M's clock, which is really not much of an overclock at all. Personal Opinion and not meant to offend: I kind of laugh/ feel sorry at anyone getting the new laptop with the 560M in it. Go for the SW with the 460M in it. :)

Overclocking the 460M GTX to 560M GTX involves, MSI Afterburner and overclocking the Core by 100MHZ, and... that's actually all. Heh, I never really thought of it, but I don't see much of a difference. Wow. Accordingly though the 560M GTX should have 192-bit as well, and if you can get that one then cool. But I believe that Asus only used the 128bit. So really, get the G53SW and just do that slight overclock and you got a 560. That's all I see. Unless anyone wants to correct me? (Which is fine, I'd rather be wrong and told so then think I'm right.)

Oh, hey everyone, I may be lurking for awhile, unless I see someone really needs some help. I'm setting up a personal server for data backup and for hosting a minecraft server for me and my buddies. (If you want to maybe join, send me a pm.) So I'll be busy for awhile figuring everything out. (Maybe a day, lol.) But I'll make sure to post specs and such when I''m all done if you'd like to see them. (It's actually gonna be a hybrid, light gaming/ server duty.) Catch you later.

    Hi everyone,

I tried to read through most of this thread but I may have missed this if it had already been brought up - my apologies if that is the case!

Has anyone here been able to get an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD installed and running Windows 7?

If so, I'd love to hear about any tweaks or such that you had to do to just to get W7 installed, as I've been stuck on this for quite some time and I'd love to get this SSD up and running (instead of trying to return it!).

Feel free to reply either here or in this thread where another G53SW owner has started a thread with the same problem.

    Thanks!

Quick question - which SSD drives have you all had success with in the G53SW-XR1? I saw a couple threads on the OCZ Vertexes being pretty risky (including this one!) Are the 120GB Intel 510 Series stable? And does the SW do SATA II or III?

I'm looking at the XR1 on Xoticpc. Seems like a good deal; can get it around 1600 with some sort of SSD and 750GB HDD.

Also, a more general question, have any of you used the Matrox or USB to DVI video adapters? Not having access to a solid second monitor is really causing me to hesitate, because I'm so used to it, and would like a no hassle solution when I'm docked.

Hi guys ... In few days im gonna join this "G53SW owners club" and I have one short question. Since there are more then 100 pages, Im not able to read the whole thread. So ...

Are there any common problems that I should expect?
Is there something I should do to prevent them?

PS: I already know the SSD issue, but since Im not planning to buy SSD in next few months, It doesnt really bothers me.

Thanks for any answers or recommendations.

Hey, I have a big problem that I hope someone here can help solve.
My LCD screen just suddenly stopped working for no reason. (Or so it seems to me atleast.) It only shows a black screen with white lines, occasionally it works for a minute, then distorts and just shows green lines, but mostly it's just black and white.

This happened all of a sudden last night, when I had already been using it for a while, and it hadn't been moved much the last couple days, just been sitting on my desk. It works perfectly with an external monitor, but the laptop LCD is still the same, no matter what I do.

Hope someone has an easy fix, and that it's not completely broken. I can provide pictures sometime next week if necessary. (Going away for the weekend.)

I have been using a Samsung 128GB SSD stably for the past few months. As for your other question, a solid second monitor? The G53SW should have VGA and HDMI, both are very good and will work for a good secondary monitor connection, as for if you don't plan on using the laptop's lcd, you should be able to use both the vga and hdmi. Plug both in, turn the laptop on and close it and go from there. if your talking you want 3 screens total then yeah you will most likely need an adapter. As I don't believe the G53 supports triple monitor, though I've never tried and could be wrong.

If you plan on playing GTA IV or certain other games you may need Throttlestop to prevent your cpu from throttling down. All you need to do is launch it and the close it. Do that every time you turn on the laptop and your be fine. Other would be to buy another wifi/bluetooth combo card. The Intel 6230 is a very popular one. I thought I wouldn't need it for the longest time, but now I need to get one. My wifi drops suddenly. Overall, the laptop is a good laptop despite these issues. I don't regret buying it even with the issues that have arisen. Then again, I'm also very bullheaded and will see something to the end, be it a computer build, or repair, or troubleshooting. :)

I would try re-installing your display drivers, and if you overclocked the gpu, put it back to stock. Also feel the back of it, the right hand side vents (when sitting in front of it.) is the gpu fan exhaust. Make sure it's blowing air out. Might need to open the bottom and check the gpu, it might have come lose somehow. Though since you say it's ok on an external monitor, your laptop screen's cable may have come lose. The worst thing it could be would be that the gpu somehow fried. That's all the possibilities I can think of. Anyone have any other ideas?

Seems like a very solid setup, though it seems that the Vertex drive isn't as stable from what I've read, seen and heard. My Samsung has been a very stable ssd even though it's not the fastest out there. (I'd rather have stability over speed any day.) If your on a budget, maybe lose a little ram. Hardly anyone uses the 6GB's already, though I know there are some who can use all the ram they can get. For your use, 14GB is overkill, maybe 10GB and pocket the difference for something else. I see you already have the Intel card in there, that's good. Other then that, it's looks good. Wish I thought of the Anti-glare screen, lol. Oh well. Good luck in your decision, it is a very good laptop and I think you will enjoy for a long time to come.

Sounds good. I thought with NVidia cards, you could only use VGA or HDMI but not both. The solutions I've heard are the DVI-USB connectors, which seem unstable (according to Amazon reviews), or the Matrox thing, which is a hefty chunk of change.

Oh, thanks but I already bought a laptop after finishing my thread on "which notebook should I buy" in that section. I was just curious if other people were getting the same problems because they're buying straight from Newegg.com They're supposed to a reputable seller but they're sending out G53SW-XN1's with power button issues.

It seems like they SHOULD check the technology before sending even if they don't customize it to the extent of other resellers. But I suppose that's what companies like XoticPC and GenTech do and Newegg.com doesn't.

Mine is only SATA II SSD, but I get 240-270MB/s read and about 200MB/s write, which honestly, is enough speed for me. Like I stated before, I'd rather have stability over possible issues and i've been running mine for over 2 months without any issues on SSD side.

    A1 just has :
2gb more ram (useless and sooo cheap...)
750gb HDD vs 500. Useless and cheap too, SSD FTW.

Should i get this laptop with the 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS Sandforce Solid State Drive or its not recommended. Does SSD make a heavy difference ?
What are the problems with this laptop right now ?

the SW doesnt have GTX560M and you will be fine with 460M. You can find one on newegg, amazon or many resellers here on this forum

or buy a used one like mine :p

@Dramacydal: I heard many complains of OCZ ssd, try get a Crucial M4, its on top of the SSD chart right now. And once you have used a SSD trust me you dont want to go back, ever.

And GTX 560 2gb comes with 128bits bus whereas GTX 460 1.5gb comes with 192bits, which is better.
So those cards are pretty much equivalent, and o/c very well.

I prefer the 460 for the 192 bits, but 560 128bits is good too. (And 1.5 or 2gb (or worst : 3gb) is waaaay too much for our little mobile cards to handle, desktop cards are far more powerful and "only" come with 1gb, so don't bother with that.

    So 285.27 are out.
I got a nice increase in 3dmark11 and 3dmark06 (check sig) with my Benchmark OC.
In games performance should be higher in dx11 applications and games, plus they come with newer physx as well.

As always heres the modded inf for our gtx460m attached.
    Have fun :)
