Just received my g53sw, it feels so much larger than a 15" notebook i have to admit, it has about the same width as my old 17" dell.

-
I just reinstal one driver not whole of them -
Make sure you are installing the latest driver. Check my sig.

My G53SW sometimes freezes for a couple of seconds while playing demanding games. As the framerate is perfect when it doesn't occur (around 40fps), I'm wondering if it's related to power consumption (maybe the demand is higher than the 150w that the supply can offer?)
Any similar experiences? -
Why would Asus put in such a useless wireless card? I know the card is relatively easy to switch out but this should not be necessary.
Is this the card I should get? Intel 622AN.HMWWB 6200 Centrino Advanced-N Wireless Adapter Mini PCI Express Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates 64/128-Bit WEP, WPA, WPA2
Newegg.com - Intel 622AN.HMWWB 6200 Centrino Advanced-N Wireless Adapter Mini PCI Express Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates 64/128-Bit WEP, WPA, WPA2
I guess I would have to use a blue tooth dongle if I want to use blue tooth.
Still thinking of returning laptop to Newegg because of the card issue. -
The Intel 6230 has Bluetooth.
-
Yeah, I picked up the Intel 6230 for like $30 and the wireless performance is noticeably improved over the stock card. -
Hi, first time poster here. Just got the G53SW-XN1 and gotta say it's freakin' awesome. Only complaint is similar to what I've seen here: the wireless is repeatedly dropping the connection--only for a second or two, but frequently enough that it bugs the hell out of me. Have most people with this issue been able to fix with drivers? If not, does changing out your wireless card void your warranty?
-
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...3sw-owners-cpu-throttling-798mhz-how-fix.html -
Where did you get it from?
Does the 6230 get 300 Mbps and Bluetooth work properly?
Does it work with only 2 antennae? -
Yes it works with 2 antenna and gets 300 Mbps. -
I will get one of these. -

Hello friends!
I just brought G53sw last week. I have one OCZ Vertex 2 SSD with windows 7 and the other HDD 500gb for data.
My problem is that sometimes the laptop is freezing 100% and sometimes freezes something like slow motion that forces me to shutdonw on the power buttom.
Anybody knows what's happenig??
Thx!
Marcio. -
I have a intel 510/scorpio blue combo with no freezing issues, however i have a m11x with a vertex 2 that also has freezing issues that requires a hard reset. Does your freezing also cause a weird static like sound looping effect when sound is playing during the freeze?
-
I really dont know what to do...
I put the last intel rapid drivers, i made the registry fix... but still freezing sometimes when im playing a game or using webcam for exemple...
And this i think not is heat problem... -
-
I think is SSD problem also!
-
Looking for an external monitor (approx.23"-25") to hook up to my G53SW. I have the N1 version from Newegg.
I would assume the monitor needs to be HDMI capable.
Can someone make a recommendation. Should I get an ASUS monitor? -
All-just wanted to point out for those who have trouble with the buttons at the top left (power4gear and splendid) that I have this problem only when running a normal user account, not when running as an administrator. I have no idea why this is the case. Anyone with any insight, feel free to chime in. But, if you're like me and that issue bugs the s*** out of you, you may want to check that out. Not sure it's worth the cost of lowered security though...

I plan on doing a fresh reinstall of Windows 7 on my G53SW-XN1, and was wondering which driver to install for Wi-Fi. In this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...rivers-everything-you-need-fresh-install.html it lists three drivers. In device manager my wi-fi driver reads, Atheros AR900WB-1NG. Thanks in advance

I have been following this thread for awhile now.
I am looking for opinions on which SSD I should go with for the G53SW-XN1
Intel Newegg.com - Intel 510 Series (Elm Crest) SSDSC2MH120A2K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
or
Crucial Newegg.com - Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Pretty much the same drive from what I can tell but intel is slightly more expensive.
Thanks-
p.s How do you edit your signatures on here? -
(The original post of this is in the Asus Gaming Notebook Forum, i am new to the forums so i did not know exactly where to place it till i found this =) )
Original Post = http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...m/591285-asus-g53sw-a1-vs-asus-g53sw-xr1.html
Hi, i am looking to buy an Asus ROG Gaming laptop and i am stuck between these two laptops, i am not exactly sure what is the main differences between the two since i can put the same amount of hardware (That Gentechpc will allow me to customize) into the two laptops, at this point i just want to know what is the main difference between them like, which one is newer? which one has a better Motherboard? which one has more features (If they even have any varying features)
Here is the specs that i will be giving both Laptops and how much they will cost...
Asus G53SW-A1
-15.6" 16:9 1920X1080 Full HD LED backlight (glossy)
-HDMI 1.4, 60Hz/120Hz output 1080P, 3D Ready
-nVidia GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5, DX11
-2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2630QM, 2.0-2.8GHz,32nm, 6MB, 45W
-Stock OEM Thermal Compound
-12GB DDR3 1333 Dual-Channel (2G X 2 + 4GB x 2) (This is a Free upgrade from the 8GB ram that it comes standard in)
-320GB Seagate Momentus XT 7200RPM 32MB, 4GB SSD Hybrid Drive, SATA II 3Gb/s
-Secondary Hard Drive Space - NONE (I will be buying a 500GB HDD at a later date)
-8X DVDRW DL Super Multi
-802.11 Wireless a/b/g/n + Bluetooth Combo Card
-Built-in 2.0 MP Webcam
-Standard Bright White Keyboard Backlit
-Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Pre-installed
Overall Price of Asus G53SW-A1 - $1494.01
Asus G53SW-XR1
-15.6" 16:9 1920X1080 Full HD LED backlight (glossy) (According to the Asus Support line, the XR1 does not come with the LED back-Lit screen, but carriers that sell this laptop has this as a setting)
-HDMI 1.4, 60Hz/120Hz output 1080P, 3D Ready
-nVidia GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5, DX11
-2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2630QM, 2.0-2.8GHz,32nm, 6MB, 45W
-Stock OEM Thermal Compound
-8GB DDR3 1333 Dual-Channel (2G X 4) (This is a Free upgrade from the 6GB ram that it comes standard in)
-320GB Seagate Momentus XT 7200RPM 32MB, 4GB SSD Hybrid Drive, SATA II 3Gb/s
-Secondary Hard Drive Space - NONE (I will be buying a 500GB HDD at a later date)
-8X DVDRW DL Super Multi
-802.11 Wireless a/b/g/n + Bluetooth Combo Card
-Built-in 2.0 MP Webcam
-Standard Bright White Keyboard Backlit
-Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Pre-installed
Overall Price for Asus 53SW-XR1 - $1358.00
So as you can see, there is no major differences between the machines except maybe the amount of RAM it comes standard in.
(Also to add I am really pushing to get an Asus ROG because of its design, cooling, one touch OC, and because i have heard only good things about Asus and ROG, but if you can persuade me to buy another laptop that is better than these two and being cheaper/same price at the same time pls dont hesitate to try =) ) -
Dunno, asus support line is telling you about the screen, all screens are pretty much LED backlit now, and certainly including all G53 models are led backlit. The main differences between the 2 above, besides configuration is the A1 will come with a backpack/mouse, while the XR1 will not.
Honestly to save some money and to avoid XoticPC(i dont trust them as a retailer since they lied to me and i lost money because of them), you can get it a newegg model even cheaper than both above,
Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G53SW-XN1 Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
You can see the specs from the link, since you plan on putting an ssd, its better to stay away from the hybrid hdd anyways since they truly only benefit you if your not using a SSD at all. But the XN1, still has a 1080p screen, and while it does only have 6gigs, you don't really need more unless you plan on using a lot of virtual machines/other ram intensive programs. Another thing you should know is that the SW model does not have a 1 touch OC button anymore, since the CPU can't be overclocked, they just made it a lcd color profile button. However, you can still overclock the 460m pretty good, you will just have to use 3rd party software such as, msi afterburner, Nvidia Inspector, or EVGA Precision.
Overall though, the laptop is still a good one, very quiet and cool running compared to a lot of others, just understand that it is a bit bigger, the 15.6" G53 is about as big as a 17" laptop and the G73 is about as big as a 20" laptop due to how big the exterior is. -
Actually i wasn't planning on buying an SSD at all, that's why i really liked the hybrid HDD because it still has the speed of the SSD while still having the hard drive space i need to store games, music, pics, and what not... plus atm the SSDs are ridiculously expensive so im gonna try to go for the middle which is the hybrid and just add an additional HDD at a later date when i have the money.
Also thx for letting me know about the one touch OC, that was really one of the main aspects that i really liked about this laptop (Including its cooling capabilities) since im planning on playing games on it.
Do you by any chance have any other Gaming laptops to suggest for me? i really like ROG dont get me wrong, but the fact that it doesnt have the one touch OC really brings it down in my eyes... i still want a laptop that has really good cooling also. -
Ahah, oops, sorry, misread that about you buying a SSD, I see now you said 500gb hdd. I don't have a hybrid sshdd, so I shouldn't be giving you my opinion. But, everywhere I've read/seen video reviews, I've yet to see one where it says it's worth the money. If it were same price as a standard hdd, then I think it would be great.
I understand about SSDs being crazy expensive though, just want to warn you that you really won't see much of a difference in speed using a hybdrid sshdd vs just a regular hdd.
The problem about recommending another laptop that has a 1 touch OC is that all sandy bridge processor laptops will not offer CPU overclocking as the way intel did the architecture, its just not possible. However, the MSI GT683 has a 1 touch overclocking on the graphics card. So you could look there, it only has 1 fan for cooling, so when playing games it gets louder than a G53 would. Plus side though is, from what I've seen, temps are pretty comparable to the G53. -
At this point im no longer looking for the One touch OC since as you have said i can do that by myself using MSI afterburner and 3rd party software. (thx for that by the way, i already knew about the MSI afterburner but i was a little scared on actually doing it myself, but i think i can do it =))
and about the Hybrid SSD/HDD it actually is a lot faster, i saw this video while i was searching for a really good gaming laptop (Ive been looking for a good month and a half)
YouTube - Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive Speed Test (NCIX TechTips #73)‏
also thx for the info on the MSI, like you said it probably does get really loud because it only has one Fan and that is another deal breaker for me, i was looking at a W150HNQ from ibuypower and i can customize it with a better processor than the G53SW-A1 and the XR1 and still be $50 cheaper than that, but the moment i looked at videos on its performance it seems that its video card is actually less powerful than the GTX460m on the G53s and also it is LOUD lol.

Also...
If you dont mind me asking, where did you buy your Asus G53SW-XR1 from and how much did it cost? -
Bump
I am looking for opinions on which SSD I should go with for the G53SW-XN1, I am looking to run WIN7, antivirus and perhaps a game or two off of it. Everything else will go on the hard drive that came with the laptop.

I'm having a lot of trouble downloading service pack 1 from windows update. Anyone having any trouble with this? The download works properly, but after rebooting the "configuring windows" only goes up to 10%. Then it says "Failure configuring service pack. Reverting changes" I've followed 2 out of the three methods here and I'm wondering if Kaspersky Internet Security causes issues configuring the SP. I have 2 other pcs with Kaspersky, one running windows 7 (32bit) and the other running Vista (64bit) and haven't had any trouble updating them in the past after fresh formats. Any help would be appreciated.

Im looking into the G53SW-XN1 now because of a suggestion of a forumer here, but when i look into the newegg feedback section of the laptop, alot of people have been having problems with the faulty power button. can anyone here that actually owns the laptops verify if you guys have experienced this or if you feel that your laptop's power button feels a bit flimsy? i am really happy for the price of the laptop, but now im wondering if the price is worth it if its going to break on me the moment i power it on.
And also why is this laptop so much cheaper than the G53SW-A1 and the G53SW-XR1 when the specs are almost the same and the G53SW-XR1 and the XN1 came out around the same time? -
From what I can tell by looking at it quickly is that the XN1 has less RAM and as far as I know all A1 models come with a matching backpack and gaming mouse, which the XN1 does not have.

-
Does SP1 really that incompatible with Nvidia? My SP1 freezes from time to time when playing video (from file or from internet). I tried the original driver (266) and the newer one (267) and the problem persists.......
-
I've been running SP1 fine, however I use a SP1 Windows 7 ISO. So maybe something in the update process to sp1 if you didn't have it before is causing problems. Otherwise, its been pretty smooth going for me, I am also very selective on which window updates I install, so maybe that helps as well. Seems lately a few users have been having problems with just WU's in general.

As for the price, I think the RAM and HD size were the biggest differences I noticed between the A1 and XN1, plus the bag/mouse you get with the A1...wasn't worth the extra 300 or whatever for me, but hey, do what you like. XR1 doesn't even look better...bigger HD but it looked like a 5400 RPM. Why pay more for that? -

You might be able to use they key from the underside on the ISO I'm using, but I haven't tried since I'm running ultimate. I'll PM you more info about it as I can't go into further detail without it being against the TOS. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Guys quick HELP!
my g53 arrived today. All good until I installed sp1...omg nothing works anymore!
Aero and windows works fine along with some apps, but as long as I boot something 3d related like 3dmark06 everything crashes, aero too, and nothing else works.
I swear I didn't had such problems before sp1, about 1 hour ago..is my new laptop already dyeing or is sp1 that's causing a mess?!
Latest nvidia drivers reinstall didn't helped and I'm running stock clocks.
If anyone can help me I'll be grateful
Thanks!
Ps: is there a way to unistall sp1? -

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
After some digging around i found the problem: its msi afterburner! So far seems that 2.1.0 and 2.0.0 versions affect system stability and creates a crash in dx9/10/11 games and apps.
I can confirm this because i removed it and now my system, updated to sp1, works ok. Just ran 3dmark06 a few minutes and all's good.
Now im in the middle of installing the newer beta, hopefully it will work ok.
This piece of info should be stickied somewhere, afterall SP1 is POSSIBLE with our G53SW but both MSI AB and EVGA Precision needs to be the very latest beta release.
This hopefully if the beta 5 im installing turns to work ok...ill keep you posted. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Ok heres a little update on my findings.
Service Pack 1 IS NOT COMPATIBLE with MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision versions 2.0/2.1 and 2.0.2.
If you have it running PRIOR to update to SP1, CLEAN UNISTALL IT! (so dont keep any profiles when asked to).
As for EVGA Precision theres no beta available, but for MSI Afterburner there is and its always updated. EVGA Precision is updated after MSI AB goes out of the beta since the coder is the same (Unwinder).
For latest MSI AB Beta, check here: MSI AfterBurner Overclock Application Discussion forum - Guru3D.com Forums
The steps are:
- Upgrade to latest nvidia drivers first or ati
- Clean Unistall (no profiles saving) MSI Afterburner
- Install SP1 and reboot
- Install eventual updates
- Install MSI Afterburner latest beta
- Configure your clocks and OSD options
Done.
I hope it really helps because i was about to downgrade to vanilla 7 or eventually format... -

This still wouldn't fix my friend's computer as he had everything updated and dosn't use MSI Afterburner. So something else is wrong there. But I do hope it fixes my issue so then I can concentrate on my friend's issue.
