On Asus web site, under specification, it says:

    15.6" 16:9 HD (1366x768)/Full HD (1920x1080)/HD 3D (1366x768) LED backlit,Color-Shine (Glare-type)

I have the 1366x768 non 3D screen. Is it LED or not?

This isn't specific to the G53, but it is for ASUS laptops in general. See if it helps!

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...lk-through-doing-clean-windows-7-install.html

Maybe try reinstalling the keyboard drivers/utilities? Check the http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html for specific files. Reinstalling or updating the bluetooth drivers may help your mouse problems. Another possibility: checked the batteries in the mouse? :)

You have the 3d version too I believe. I had a lot of problems when using the most recent nvidia drivers, so that's something you might check. Windows would just sit there at the shutting down screen and multiple things were locking up on me until I rolled back the drivers, if you have upgraded yours you might take a look at that.

I received my G53JW-XR1 late October and swapped it for the A1 a few days later.

So far I'm loving this laptop! I'm running two desktops as well (both are i7 [email protected], HD4870/260, P6T, X-25 SSD systems). So far, this laptop is more or less keeping up with the desktops. The only real performance upgrade I can see would be to pop in an SSD. I doubt adding 2GB of RAM will make that big of a difference to most people.

    Pros:

Performance, cooling, quietness, backlight keyboard, looks, resolution, full keyboard

    Cons:

Size, Touchpad buttons are too stiff, no locking mechanism to keep lid closed, difficult access to HDD, RAM, etc.

I'm trying to make a back up of the Asus Drivers and Utilities Disk to carry with me, however every time I try to make it copy, it fails.

    Any ideas?

i got my laptop in just now and it's great so far. No problems what so ever;however, when I got the laptop the backlit keyboard was working fine, but not when i do fn+f4, the lights don't turn on. How do i fix this?

never mind, the driver on the disk fixed it up =D

i ran bad company 2 and it ran flawlessly. Under my gpu settings, there was like only one option for my graphics settings. Low, Medium, High, and Ultra. Shouldn't there be more than that? I already updated my drivers.

Anyone have time to run a quick video capture of gaming on the G53 ? Fraps or webcam or cellphone cam would be fine. Just wanna see/hear what gaming would look/sound like :) SC2 if possible :) Or my treasured emulators (Dolphin or PCSX2) :)

This is not the correct place to post your inquery, this is owners louge to discuss the G53JW and your not even considering it, go open a thread in What Notebook Should I Buy? or even in the Asus section, search for the owners lounge of the laptops your are considering and discuss it there.

This was great to watch :) I only was able to catch half of it before my internet got laggy, but it looks very smooth. Performance should be roughly the same as the base-config, right?

Also, do you have any RTS games to share (SC2 on ultra)?

Can't wait till I get mine!! So, is the backpack treating you well? How padded is it exactly? It looks kinda like the Targus Groove backpack, which isn't that well padded. A small drop and something will most likely crack if inside that backpack...

I'd hate to find a huge backpack cuz I'm only 5'4", and most laptop bags are huge for me.

could use some more pockets in it tho
& the Asus logo should have been in Red so it stands out

Hi. I just purchsed the G53jw-A1 and am having an issue.

WHen im playing games on an external monitor ... the laptop seems to randomly go into sleep mode. I have checkel all of the close lid type settings and all are set to do nothing. Also, I have disabled hibernate completely.

Any ideas would be helpful and appreciated.

    Thanks!

Have you selected in power for gear "High performance", and does this happen with the lid open? I probably wouldnt close it either way, many laptops tend to overheat, and in the case of the G53/G73 is not that clear where it draws air, some say its from the keyboard.

yes i do have the power 4 gear set to high performance, again with every sleep setting set to "never".

I did check the temps and they are manageable at 85c GPU with or without lid closed. Im pretty stumped. Oh well looks like ill just have to leave it open.

Thanks for the fast response! :)

In your Power4Gear High Performance window click on "Change advanced power settings", then open "Sleep", then "Hibernate after". It will show 300 minutes...increase that to a Gazillion minutes.

So i've had my G53 for almost a week now. And i'm Extremely happy with this laptop.

I play LOTS of starcraft 2 and this thing couldn't perform better.
I run ultra with highest resolution with ease.

    Cons:
Kind of big for a 15inch laptop. But if size isn't a matter than it isn't a big deal.

It tends to heat up pretty high. while browsing on the web. highest temp i've seen it hit was 60C. Still no overheating yet though.

    Pros:
Best bang for your buck. Everything about this computer is pretty amazing.

I am having a terrible time trying to set up the resolution and font size for this machine in order to make everything readable.

I spend most of my time on forums, such as this one, and I was under the impression that since I was coming from a 15.6 inch screen (albeit 1280*800) that everything would look pretty much the same as far as readability and fonts go.

However, I just cannot seem to get my screen to look right. I use mostly FireFox, and all of the links are insanely small, even when zooming in, and if I zoom in like 200%, everything just looks bolded to the point where it is bothersome to read, and still the address bar and buttons are very small.

I'd very much appreciate anyone's help in setting the system resolution and sizing that optimizes web viewing in FireFox.

Hmm, the only thing I know that would work is holding ctrl and using the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. Other than that, I can't think of anything else that would zoom Firefox.

You shouldn't need a cooler, but wait until you use it to make your final decision. You may find that a TV Tray may be all you need. You will be amazed at how cool it is even when being used hard.

Ok this may sound either petty or stupid but I have never had a laptop with a backlit keyboard before. Is there any way to get the light to come on at the windows login screen? I mean of all the places where it would be convenient to have a light on the keyboard you would think it would be there. I have done a ton of Google searches but cant seem to find any threads discussing this. Maybe I am search for it the wrong way.

No, the lights need the drivers to load so they will only come on briefly when you turn it on, and then not again until you are booted into Windows 7 with your drivers loaded.

Hey guys, just another prospective buyer like lots of you. I'm planning on waiting until Cyber Monday to see if any of these sellers put up a nice Cyber Monday deal. In the meantime, I'm browsing the xoticpc site and I noticed that in the customization page there's an option to add "afterburner lights" to the two vents at the back of the notebook. Does anyone have any DIY methods of making this happen?

My GPU reaches 50 and then the fans come on until it cools to 45 and then it slowly heats up to 50 and slowly back down to 45.
This repeats and repeats and when the temp is logged it looks like sin wave...

Does everybody's G53 do the same thing?

This has been covered 3/4 times.
This happens with some machines when windows updates. You can re-install the driver via the "e-Driver" program preinstalled on your computer. (ATK drivers) but don't bother doing it untill all the updates are done because it happened twice for me
