Have you checked the GPU clocks as games like SC2 are much more dependant on the GPU rather then the CPU?

It's always been that the GPU clocks down on battery power. There used to be tweaks for powermizer to make it not so bad, but I'm not sure about it now since I haven't used windows in an exceedingly long time. Long story short don't game on battery unless it's solitaire. ;)

Yeah I just realised that after doing some more searching on the net..it appears that windows 7 and powermizer dont seem to function properly together..so im stuck a powered down gpu when unplugged.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of tip is on the end of the AC adapter (the one that goes into the laptop? They seem to be named C1, C2, C3, etc. just wondering if anyone knew what the G53JW's was.

Reason being is I want to get a right-angle connector for the end of it so i have have the power cord face back instead of straight out.

Edit: nevermind on the "C1" etc. naming - I learned that those only work for a specific universal A/C adapter.

The only actual converters I've found are these...

    http://www.bixnet.com/cntlc90.html
    http://www.bixnet.com/cntc4.html

I'm at work so I can't really do any measuring but i wonder if any of those fit.

I wouldn't mess with converters, it only adds a part that can go wrong.

Man, so expensive. VERY good idea though, since the straight jack is already in the way, being that it's on the right side.

Just got my G53JW-XR1! It's the stripped down version of the A1 which comes with a 500gb hard drive and 2gb less ram. It also didn't come with the bag and Razer mouse that the A1 owners get. It's probably the best ~$1200 I have spent on a notebook. This thing is actually cheaper than my XPS M1530 when I bought it.

Please, Anyone with a G53-3D can explain how is playing with it? I mean, how is 3D? How are non 3-D games? do you complain on the lower resolution? FPS are higher cuz of the lower resolution or running at 120hz somehow cut the possible FPS speed up? thanks :3
I would love to see some comparison between the regular G53 and the 3D one, mostly because I'm sure that having a full HD panel on a 15 inc laptop would make me blind in two weeks...

I have the 3D glasses and a 120Hz monitor on my desktop and I prefer to play without it. 3D throws off my aim in first person shooters and makes me feel dizzy after long gaming sessions. It also cuts your fps in half as it has to render a separate frame for each side of your glasses. You will also have to wait for new drivers when you want to use it with a new game. I remember playing Mafia II when it first came out with 3D enabled and it was just a garbled black mess. Had to download beta drivers to play it properly in 3D.

    Hey,

Have you guys tried leaving your G53 over night? like for torrents or something like that?

I did, and by morning it was off (in hibernation). But, I already turned off all the settings for that - closing lid(do nothing) and never sleep on ac/bat... so ya. just trying to figure it out.

    Let me know. Thanks.

Edit: Hey guys I found out why it hibernates now... u have to open up Power4Gear Hybird and they have an Option in "Miscellaneous power setting" for Hibernation at 5hrs so I guess you just need to disable that. And prob solve... lol

Grats. I've had mine for about a week and its been perfect so far. :)

Today I ordered an extra 4 gig of ram for it plus ordered a new SSD for my desktop and will be moving the existing 80GB Intel X25-M from my desktop into the G53 as the boot drive. I'll take some pics of my adventure into disassembling this thing which looks a bit daunting.

As long as the order is being fulfilled by Amazon you should not have a problem. I've heard mixed reviews on orders fulfilled by a third party through Amazon, however. YMMV, just keep an eye on the tracking.

Bought it from ncix.com and priced matched with bestdirect.ca. It's not listed in bestdirect anymore so you can't price match with them anymore. NCIX still has it listed but out of stock. I think I got one of the last ones they had.

I received my G53JW 3DE from XoticPC last night. I love this laptop and im really liking the 3d, however, any game I play tends to have a tremendous amount of ghosting when using the 3d, has anyone else ran into this issue, and does anyone know how to reduce the ghosting effect? Ive never used 3d before.

I purchased my G53JW-A1 on Amazon on November 6th.
Can anybody give me a ETA when ill get it?

Also does anybody know how good the GPU runs with games like Starcraft 2?
Considering that game takes high GPU to run...

ghosting? The nvidia control panel on your computer has short cuts to reduce depth and conversion and what not...

alt+f3 reduces depth and alt f4 increases... alt+f12 enables/disables the 3d sight. Go the the nvidia control panel by going to hardware and sound in the control panel.

If you've got prime, then 2days. If regular, then 2-5business days if it says so, otherwise, it's gonna be like 2 weeks (which is normal for amazon). You're lucky though!

Dunno. I guess you have to wait till they come back in stock. Usually takes them 2 days to update and give you a "your order is now shipping" email. Like I said, amazon takes kinda long to do things--especially if they're outta stock :(

Voodooi confirmed it a while back, if I'm not mistaken. Check his review of this monster. This GPU will blow away most things (except Crysis and Metro watever its called). The CPU will do the same as well. Someone needs to test RE5 and GTAIV though just to make sure.

The 3 games i haven't tried yet, it's something that has to do with performance, lower graphics?

    I'll try a game later...

but I just watched avatar 3d... in 3d. It's pretty awesome I gata say, the trick why the movie was so well done is because it does regional 3d effects rather than the whole screen, so the depth was that much better and clearer.

I was thinking of buying the hp envy 17 a couple of months back.. i have to choose by this month and right now i really want the g53jw-a1.. im looking to buy it in xoticpc because they have an option to upgrade to 8gb for free and turn a single 750gb hdd to two 500's (for the extra bracket).. they're still on preorder though, so im still thinking if i should buy from them..

also, has anyone here done any design stuff here like intense photoshop editing, 3d animation, video editing? how is it with those? thanks!

EDIT: oh and how's the stock wireless card? cuz in xoticpc you have a option to upgrade that too..

    Hi,
I'm currently in a dilemma, i can choose between the G53jw and g73jw.

I would like the one with the better battery life and the one made from the better material (I heard that they are made from different types of plastics)

All information and comments would be appreciated,
    Thanks!

    Hi All,

I'm looking to buy the ASUS G53JW-A1 soon. Just a quick question about the ASUS Recovery DVD's.

One of the online retailers recommended that I get them to make the recovery DVD's for me (@ USD 15.00) as the default ASUS recovery DVD's are of 6 DVD's and contain a lot of bloatware. So they are recommending that I let them make the Recovery DVD's for me and they will get rid of the bloatware.

Does you think this is a good idea? I felt that USD 15 is a bit high for a few DVD's.

    Thanks. :)

Metallic when you get a chance to try some games in 3d let me know how it turns out, here is a picture I found of what my 3DE is doing, this isn't my pic but a pic I found, but my games are doing the exact same thing.
    http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w52/smokiedabong/IMG_20101003_100359.jpg

I'm trying to figure out if my laptop is defective, or if this is normal, either way its ruining the whole 3d experience for me im starting to think I should have just gotten the A1 from Xoticpc instead of the 3DE.

Ive changed the depth to as low as it can be and it helps, but if i have to turn the 3d all the way down, it's kind of pointless to have 3d. I've also played around with the convergence settings and still no luck.

Maybe someone that has used 3d on this laptop or the G51 before could chime in.

Black Ops runs really well on the G53. I can't give an exact FPS but I believe on High Settings it runs at least 40 FPS

Anyone know where we can get replacement optical drives?

I have the A1 with DVDrw only and may want a Blueray drive later on.

Is this something you can get from multiple manufacturers in a standard upgrade bay format or is this Asus/G53 specific.

    Cheers
    Shang

I had the option to get the DVDs for $30 at BTOTech and didn't take them as I reinstalled Win7 Ultimate anyway.
The real pain is to "waste" about 4 hours to get the 5!!! DVDs burned. So if one doesn't have a separate Win7-Version I would personally get it for $15 and even $30 just to save those 4 hours.

Works fine for me, but you need to download the "notebook"-version, not the desktop driver.

Not only do you save the burn time, when you get the ASUS recovery DVD from us or another reseller, it gives you a clean OS install.

If you burn the DVDs yourself using the A1Recovery utility ASUS gives you, you end up getting all the bloatware and scamware that the factory installs right back.

I think it's BS, they use the exact same program to do the recovery. Your laptop, upon first launch, will ask you to insert dvds... 5 of them... to make a recovery.

Firstly... are your 3D glasses on?

This would happen if you have the depth too high, unless you focus on that point you won't get ghosting...

Mafia 2 for example, was 3D-ready, meaning the experience will be spectacular, so it should run fine, but if you are having issues with it, then they must be bugs.

If the game was not created with 3d in mind you'll usually have issues... I played the new 007 Blood Stone in 3D, and it had problems, the depth amount was about 10% and I was having problems with the edges of the screen, so it was better to play it without the 3d as with it ON it reduced the fps by five-fold.

So, if the game is rated by nvidia as good or better, then they should play fine. Check here,

    Game with NVIDIA 3D Vision

I played C&C 3, Left 4 Dead 2, Just Cause2, Burnount... all in 3D and they all played great... The least favorite to play in 3D was probably C&C 3 as it didn't WOW me, and my favorite was Left 4 Dead and Burnout. Just Cause 2 has performance issues with 3D on... the fps is decreased by almost 10 times.

Burnout is very enjoyable and it's rated "good" because when at night, the shadowing of the car appears on both sides, as if the moon is shining from 2 different locations, also the rear brake light effects are in 2d, so they are flat, but none of these things bother me, I keep it to daylight because I hate doing a race at night, and the brake lights are very tiny and arn't noticeable or annoying in any way.

However, the biggest drawback with Shutter Glasses is that the effect really dims down the colors, making HDR bloom seem normal rather than feeling that "wow" ness in the effect.

If you are having problems with games rated "ready" or "excellent" then check out google or forum for issues and fixes for the game, as it might need them in order to play better.

The awesome thing is that nvidia allows you to try and play EVERYTHING in 3D, even if it wasn't made for it. So some will play better than others, I'll see if I Can get Mafia 2 or w.e. game you are having issues with and I'll give it a GO.

    Best of luck.
