ofcourse it would be cheaper however you would not be able to buy any ext warranty and if it ever had to be returned for service asus may decline as they are taking a stance on new dealer service policy. you would have to ask them about it. Potentially without dealer warranty it can cost you more then with one. Most of our service is done for systems purchased from other vendors and out of warranty repairs. We also charge for labor and shipping when failure is caused by components put in by the user. Most vendors do not offer any after warranty service. A few of us do :)

Yea that makes sense. I enjoy building computer things, so I was just curious. But thinking about the whole warranty situation, it probably would be smarter to buy it already built. Thanks!

I'd say from all of what I have read and my limited knowledge it seems like Asus half-assed something important with this machine. The GPU is underpowered and (it seems) there are driver issues. I think Asus' plan is to make this a workable gaming platform in the long-term. I.e. they will release better drivers for this GPU or just concentrate on making really good drivers for a GPU they will release for the C90 in the future. Either way, you fellows who got the C90 first will likely have to wait a while until you can get the most out of your machine. That is my observation based on very limited knowledge and having read pretty much all of the posts concerning this machine.

Edit: If this is inaccurate, let me know and I'll delete it, don't want to clutter the thread, just offer my 2 cents.

Well, once we get a few more confirming reports (of underwhelming performance) I would think somebody should email or contact Asus directly and see if some sort of dialog can be initiated in order to help sort this out.

I completely agree with you omikelo. I hope with all my heart that this is not the case. It is, after all, pure observational speculation on my part. I hate seeing good people get caught by the short-hairs in bad business decisions.

I agree Brian, and if you C90 owners need another body willing to contact Asus regarding the quality/reliability of the C90 I'd be more than willing to add my two cents and support that endeavour.

I'll be busy these next couple of weeks but if you or others decide to pull the trigger on that, just PM me.

I have used ASUS for every computer I have built/owned since 1998. Maybe they are just waiting to release new drivers. Making sure everyone gets to build their C90 first and then drop them on us.

Seems to me if they checked every single laptop during manufacturing. They should have checked every single available CPU/RAM available at the speeds (CPU MHZ) they advertised. Maybe the ram has to be a higher Mhz to run overclocked? Ken? Have you ran any test with the laptop overclocked? ][V][IKE

I'd rather have really good stock performance without having to go out on a limb and overclock, therefore shortening the lifespan of the laptop itself, honestly. ;)

True. I am not a big overclocker. I simply like to have it able to run stable while overclocked and then run it stock or slightly over stock speeds. Asus reliability hopefully will be same as normal. I have persoanlly never had a failed Asus component. ][V][IKE

Dont forget guys, like I said in the original thread I posting those scores in, I was NOT able to get those results under normal circumstances. I had to keep the ram, gpu, cpu and all cool in order to be able to overclock to 2.93ghz without it locking up. KEEP IT IN MIND.

    @ Vinceboiii-
I would not suggest using Windows XP on this computer if you are going to be playing any Direct X 10 games. ATM DX10 does not work on XP and may be a long time before it does.

I hate Vista but want to be able to run DX10 games. And as someone said before, the C90 was designed with vista in mind.

Hope that helps you out.

Sorry for the offtopic but, can anyone say the marks at 1024x768 with the maximum oc (3DMark06 score: 3576 (1280x1024)) so... 1024x768 go to 4500?

compare this to ifl90, we have a small gap between this to machines... what you guys think of that... i am again concern about what i will buy :S

You think it would be smart to set up a FAQ of sorts to tell everyone what they need to get, and what they should do when they first get the're C90S as far as updates and stuff. That way it would make things easier then looking in the 99999 threads

If you guys want to find the questions people have been asking as well as the answers we've givin and format it, Alex can edit the review and put it in there...and i can add it to my in-game video and details thread...but it has to be formatted well.

imho it should have its own thread if were doing that kind of thing to show people what needs to be done with their lappy without having to finf it in the bulk of the reviews it does need to be formatted well tho

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum. Looks like a very informative place. I am about to build a c90s up for my buddy. I've been building systems for years so i have a pretty good knowledge of computer wordage. But input from everyone is where we all get the bugs worked out and hopefully the vendors listen. I plan on doing a dual boot xp vista config. Any info wouldbe greatly appreciated. Thanx.

    My questions are.

    1. What drivers is everyone using for xp and vista on the c90s?
    2. Has anyone tried gskill memory?
    3. Not really a question but a complaint. Asus had so much extra time with this unit and still no updates on there site. Pretty pethedic if you ask me.
