It happens when AC is plugged in, when I'm on battery, and even when I'm on AC with the battery removed.

small problem. I've been downloading a boatload of Dead shows off the LMA(archive.org), but now it warns me that my drive is nearly full (but my 2nd drive is empty).

Do I need to do something to make the 2nd hardrive work, or is it just going to start working when the other drive is full?

Sorry if the question is confusing, but I'm just a user.

I think your saying your first partition,C:, is full. You need to move your working files to D: and leave the C: drive just for the applications and OS.

This is not automatic. Try to bone up on managing your files or Windows will have problems with your full C: or "first Drive"

Hi. About 2 weeks ago I had posted here asking about temperatures on my asus 1201N, and it was said to be good. But now I have another question. Today my harddrive made like a creaking sound. Like "creak creak", similar to the sound you hear when put a cd in a drive and the drive cannot read it properly.

Does this indicate that the harddrive is going to fail soon T.T? Are there any drive fitness test software that I can run to test for it?

Back up your files. Do you have your restore disks made? If not get on it before your drive goes up the creak ;)

Not sure what the creak noise could be other than indexing, so you may not have a thing wrong. If you right click on drive under my computer, you have an error checking utility. Run at night as it takes a while. You can also download a free utility named HDTune that can check for S.M.A.R.T. which is a built in drive health utility.

If in doubt or you find errors, call ASUS.

I'm just wondering if anyone could give me advice on the wifi card in the 1201. I finally upgraded my router from g to n last night but the connection still seems to be slow. Are there any special settings I need to change for the card or the router? Thanks in advance

What's the maximum battery life you can get with this netbook ?

I'm looking for a 12" asus netbook with 7-8 hours of autonomy (when you do basic things like opening a word/excel spreadsheet, surfing on internet etc...) and which is powerful enough to be able to play videos (youtube, movies etc...).
I hesitate between the 1201HA (longer battery life) and the 1201N (better CPU/graphic card).

But on asus website it's written that the 1201N battery life is only 5hrs. There is no way to improve it ?

i don't think it can be improved on, i get 4-to-5 hours of battery life maximum. the dual core cpu and ion really use a lot of power. since it is 4-to-5 hours with a six cell battery.

i neeed help with the system recovery, i am getting the alienware m11x so i decided to give my 1201n to my brother. when i hit f9 several times a screen popped up for the recovery and i clicked recover, then the screen said "can not load bootmanager press ctrl+alt+delete to restart" and not windows does not load at all. the system starts at the grey asus screen where it asks for f2 to be pressed to run setup but just enters the bios, same thing with the tab key then all i get is a blinking white horizontal cursor against a black background.

Hi, I just bought the 1201 a few days ago but I noticed a problem with the audio.

When playing audio, at random moments, you can hear a small distortion in the sound, like the sound LP discs make while playing them, at any volume level. I have what they are supposed to be the latest audio drivers (6.0.1.5948 for Realtek and 1.0.0.58 for NVIDIA). The audio is output through the netbook's speakers.

Has someone had this problem? Could you fix it or is it a faulty netbook the one I got?

    Thanks,

    Daniel

@ dloretde..a little late to the party but may be of interest to others...

Same as on my old 1201n and really bad on my 501. Asus uses lousy sound chips, my UL30 needs high efficiency headphone to over come airline cabin nose, but not noisy, just no power compared to my 6831 which ROCKS!

Sending your laptop to Asus to swap motherboard is very risky depending on which tech you get and you pay postage to them.

I just did it the easy way and got a cheap $24 TBeach USB DAC, noise gone!

Hi. I feel REALLY late to this party, but I just got a used 1201N (cheap) to replace a Dell Mini 9 that I accidentally killed (plugged the wrong power adapter into it and sent it 24V AC).

    General comments:
    - It seemed to be running really hot, so I took it apart and redid the thermal paste with Artic Silver. That helps quite a bit. I also swapped out the wireless card while I had it apart, for a Broadcom card that's compatible with another os.

I haven't run any games on it, but I'm impressed that it does HD video flawlessly, under Silverlight, Flash, and Quicktime. The Dell Mini 9 wouldn't smoothly play HD or even some SD Netflix.

The main con is noise. The Dell Mini 9 is silent, as in zero decibels, no fans or hard drive. The 1201N has quite a bit of fan noise and hard drive noise. I added rubber washers to the fan mount, which helped a little. I'm pondering putting in an SSD to get rid of the hard drive noise. Is anyone running an SSD in this? I'm thinking of an Intel 510 series 120 GB.

    Overall, very happy though. :)
