Ah, I see, what temps do you get when you set the fans to maximum then?

    The 2060 should be an 80w part, the 2070 a 115w part and the 2080 Max-q a 100w part.

Oh then that's fine. Not sure how cool the GX701 should run normally but 74 degrees is a normal temp at max fans.

Can you set a custom fan curve?

Because I was already afraid that something was wrong. I have already removed the heat sink three times.
Yes I can and I will test it today. Thanks Man! :)

ordered a GX701 (144hz (gsync), 2070, 16gb). How is the issue with inverse ghosting, has it been solved or is it still a problem? Any recommendations on what to do with a new setup?

Regarding repasting, does this void warranty?

just received my gx701. overall satisfied, still evaluating. I notice the ROG icon above the keyboard is not completely flat, is this by design or is it a "defect".

Hi all, anyone know how to lock the function key on the gx701gx? I’ve been able do this in other gaming laptops via Bios or directly on the keyboard, but I’m having trouble locating it. Thanks in advance!

    Hi guys,

Is it normal for the CPU on 90% load to sit at around 91-94 Celsius for Zephyrus gx701 or should i try to re-paste the thermal paste?

I am playing Battlefield 5 and it seems that this game is a CPU hungry one

So those are very high temps, my GX701gx idle temps hover around 42-45c and with intense sessions the max CPU is 82c an hour of gameplay. But keep in mind that I’ve repasted using liquid metal compound and I know how to apply it carefully since I’ve performed the upgrade to many gaming laptops I’ve owned. It’s completely worth it!

Hi. I noticed two GX701 version, with I7-9750 and upgradable up to 32gb RAM and I7-8750 up to 24gb RAM, now any questions:

    1) it's worth to pay extra 150 euros for the tersion with I7-9750?

    2) the version with I7-8750 (on Asus site is upgradabie up to 24gb ram), well, is it possible to upgrade this version up to 32 GB RAM?

    3) reverse ghosting is a real issue?

    1) No

    2) the GX701 comes with a soldered 16gb and a free ram slot. Just add another stick for 32gb.

    3) with a 7ms panel response time 240hz and 300hz will have ghosting. I'm not sure how bad the panel overdrive to 3ms is but typically overdriven panels will have inverse ghosting at any refresh rate below the maximum.

thanks for the reply sean, i think that version i want go to buy have 8gb ram soldered, as reported in this review "The maximum amount of RAM is limited to 24 GB, 8 GB of which is soldered to the motherboard".

So i have to install a sigle 32gb ram stick to get 32gb ram.

    You're welcome.

Be warned however that if you decide to put 32gbs into the laptop, you'll only have dual channel for the first 16gb and then single channel for the remaining 24gb.

I have a GX701G and the temps are pretty terrible. Out of the box I was seeing CPU temps peak at 97C and GPU temps of 85C when playing Apex Legends. In less intensive games like Overwatch I was hitting 95C CPU and 80C GPU.

So I re-pasted with Arctic MX-4 but only saw a 2-3 degree drop. So I switched to liquid metal. Now I'm seeing CPU temps of 90C and GPU temps of 80C when playing Apex. Not nearly the drop I expected. I thought maybe the 1mm thermal pads I used were too thick so I swapped to K5-Pro, didn't make a difference.

I'm wondering if the issue is the heatsink isn't making full contact with the CPU? Any ideas?

Somethings not right here. Did you spread the liquid metal properly? On both the cpu/gpu and also on the corresponding spots on the heatsink?

Another info, what do owners think about keyboard position? Is it
comfortable to use for typing texts? The forward position is abnormal and unfortunately I have no way to try it first to buy.

Yeah I put it on both. I used the Gamers Nexus and Actually Hardcore Overclocking liquid metal video guides.

Its not the first time I've used liquid metal, I used it on my last laptop (Asus G72V) and delidded my desktop 8700k CPU and got the expected results. I did a complete clean up re-apply this morning of liquid metal and things haven't improved. I don't think the heatsink is making proper contact. Not sure what else to try

I tried it and didn't like it. Its OK if you have a table but unusable if you have limited space like on a plane or if you put it on your lap.

That was my biggest gripe with the zephyrus and unfortunately one I couldn't live with so I had to go with the GS75. A real shame.

questions after first starting to use the gx701:

    1. How come, I can't set a custom fan curve on MSI Afterburner for this laptop? In the settings, the Fan tab doesnt even appear. Anyone knows?

    2. Also , when using Throttlestop, when I launch the TS Bench function, the log starts saying red error numbers, like starts from 1 up to the thousands of "Errors". What am I doing wrong over there?
Is this related to the fact that the profile on Armoury Crate needs to be set to Turbo to work? I haven't tried that combination fixes it yet.

    3. Can the Manual profile in Armoury Crate customize anything at all? It seems that nothing is really clickable unless to reposition window sections around!

A little off topic to the theme of this thread...

Has anyone found a suitable sleeve for this laptop? It seems everything listed at 15" is slightly too narrow (about 10-15mm) and all 17" are much looser than I'd hope for.

I really like the look of the Tomtoc 360 and the Evecase Diamond.

    Hey Guys,
I have a GX701 GXRH6077T and I'm having problems with mini freezing when I'm in a game, I have it on performance mode and everything else is standard from when I got the laptop.
I am not that tech savvy so sorry in advance the lack of details but I am hoping someone has run into this problem and has resolved it.
    Thanks

Hi guys, I just bought a GX701GXR with a 144hz screen and g-sync. I tried to activate v-sync, but when I did it the fps got stuck at 60fps and not 144fps as the screen refresh rate.
Why? Do you think it's normal?
    Before I had an Alienware 17 R4 with a gtx1080, g-sync and 120hz and when I activated the v-sync I got 120fps. Thank you.

Edit: Well, now I'm capped to 60fps even with v-sync off. If I disable g-sync and v-sync then I have no caps to my fps. I can't understand why...

Edit2: Ok, further evolution: v-sync on = fps capped to 60fps; g-sync on + v-sync off = uncapped fps. The real problem is that every time I restart the PC the situation returns to g-sync on = fps capped to 60fps. To get around this I need to reapply the nvidia control panel settings using the nvcpl developer options. I really don't know what to do.

I would contact either your vendor, or ASUS directly. Either should be able to supply the correct fan.

Anyone else getting sound handshake issues when you turn off either the connected TV or AVR?

My HDMI output is connected to an LG C9, which uses Atmos. I have the DP output connected to a Denon x2600 AVR, also set for Atmos (I typically use HDMI for video signal and send the audio via the DP due to audio lag if using the HDMI).

All works fine (mostly) when everything is started up together - but if I turn off the TV and AVR and later turn them back on, the sound then refuses to play, whichever output I select.

I have liquid metal on my device. It runs cold and quite with max boost on GPU and CPU.

Can someone please tell me how to block automatic Windows BIOS update on the GX701GXR? All my tricks are not working. I want to stay on 306 because of undervolting.

Under full load e.g. in The Division 2 GPU is 69-72C and CPU 4Ghz all core 79-81C

Yes undervolting is not possible anymore, I wonder how to block the auto update

control panel, (large icons) click on system and security, then system, then on left advanced system settings, then hardware tab, device installation settings, set to no. This worked for me on my Lenovo, you can give it a try.

    Hi guys,

After activating the Manual Mode in Armoury Crate, the minimum RPM of the GPU and CPU fans are 4000 RPM. You can't change this with the sliders, you can only increase RPM fans. The minimum RPM in manual mode is the same as in Turbo Mode and you can not change it. I would like in manual mode the lowest RPM should be about 2000 RPM during idle and about 6000 RPM during maximum load of CPU and GPU. Is it possible? Even if I set the 0% fan speed they are at least 4000 RPM. Why there is no fan curve? My model: GX701GV

    Thanks for help
