Update: I spent a good 90 minutes taking an ultra small flathead screwdriver and running it between the fan blades gently, then i used a rocket blower to blow all the dust out with the fans facedown. I also blew into the vents, causing dust to erupt out the fans! And when I opened the laptop, there was dust all over the perforated top plate and screen, LOL. That's what i get for using the laptop in kathmandu, where it is dusty af.

Either way, this somewhat intensive cleaning and a 100 mV underclock on the CPU got me from idling at 62C to idling at 49C, gaming temps have dropped a good 15C.

Whatever works. Just wish it was a bit easier to get into the laptop further than the moving backplate

Hi guys, I have a question.

I'm about to sell my Alienware 17 R5 to buy a 15,6" laptop with a good screen (I do a lot of photography, professional work) and I have the opportunity to buy this exact same model : https://www.amazon.com/Zephyrus-8th...4644&sr=8-3&keywords=asus+zephyrus+1080+144hz

For 1800€, brand new, used only 2 months, still on warranty of course.
I want to know if the screen is good enough (read some reviews but sometimes it's good, sometimes average), can you give me some advice ?

The screen is good for gaming but definitely not professional work. You will need workstation that uses an actual IPS panel to do what you want to do.

I do a professional travel photography and videography, and am very discerning of panels on laptops. If you need a mobile solution, then honestly this screen is pretty great with a calibrator like a spyder 5 every few months.

I recently completed a project using 8k timelapse and hyperlapse clips in Premiere and After Effects and this laptop performed better than my gtx 1070 desktop would have. Shameless Promotion:

They simply don't make laptops with these specs and perfect color reproduction. As long as you're not editing TV, advertisements or feature films, i don't think you need 100% color accuracy most of the time.

I have been happy with it so far. Just my 2 cents

Anyone knows how the dimensions are? Otherwise these stickers can be bought in stores like aliexpress. Dimension at these stickers 5mm×15mm. Would be very interesting to know :D

    Hi everyone,

Can someone let me know if having small gaps in the bezel around the Gx501 screen is normal and/or unavoidable? I'm a new owner of this model (only ever owned Mac laptops in the past) and I noticed a gap at the bottom of the screen frame (where the Republic Of Gamers logo is) and it is letting some dust in and it's kind of been bugging me. There is another small gap near the bottom right of the bezel but the one right in the middle is the most noticeable.

Do you guys have the same type of thing or are your bezels flush to the screen? Pushing the screen surround gently in does nothing and I am not sure whether or not there is any adhesive there that might have come unstuck.

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

That sounds odd. My bezels are flush to the screen.

Thank you very much for your respond, great video btw ! I didnt buy the Asus, instead I bought a GS65 for 1000€, I think the screen is pretty much the same that is used on the GX501 and Gigabyte Aero 15. Did calibration with my Spyder 5, only 92% color accuracy on sRGB, not that great but better than my previous laptop and since mose of my content will be see on computer screen and smartphone, couldnt care less about color fidelity at this point.

    Hi all,

I actually have the gm501 but I think it has a similar speaker vibration issue.

Has anyone had any success dampening it? I've seen another guy had done so, interested if anyone else had.

Hi, I have a same issu/problem, in october/2018 my keyboard hasn`t been working too.
Have you noticed that our video card (1080 max-q) does not work if the notebook cover is closed?
unfortunately after my keyboard stops, I believe the video card has stopped working, F1 2017 was running at 120-140 fps at maximum settings, now it is 15 fps.

Dota 2 is no more than 40-60 fps.

Do you have any idea what to do with the keyboard (keys and led do not work, only the touchpad) and if there is any way to force the video card to always work on?

    Do you resolve this problems?

Hey, does any one know where the end key is? Or a macro for it?

I have a weird issue that just startred with my Asus laptop. If I leave it running for a few hours (idle or watching videos) eventually the tackpad will not respond at all. It actually won't come back after a restart. I have to power down the system completely to get the trackpad back (as I'm typing right now, I have my trackball plugged in). Also when this happens the numpad won't come on either.

I don't see any devices marked as an "!" in device manager. Anyone have any ideas? Was working fine up until this week (as far as I am aware).
