i fixed the smearing and everything else. The laptop now runs super smooth and sharply.

set V Sync on in the nvidia driver
set everyting in windows to 100% power, no power saving!

what caused the most problem was the automatic brightness setting of windows. I disabled it and the image got clear.

and i have overclocked the gpu ram and the clock speed of the gpu up to 225mhz

There is no minidisplayport. We're supposed to use a Usb-C to displayport adapter which works great for me.

Does our 1080 max q card count as a regular 1080? I want to redeem a nvidia destiny 2 voucher which is for 1080 and 1080ti cards only.

Take off the bottom cover and place a small strip of electrical tape over each led.

Are they direct LED's, or is there a light pipe leading from the actual LED to the edge of the case?

You might just open up the bottom and "clip" the leads on the LED if it's not surface mounted somewhere.

Tape gathers dust and hair quiekly in that position, and might block cooling too - not sure where you planned on spreading the tape :)

They are direct soldered on the board, the electrical tape is hidden by the bottom base unless you just really look in it. I did it to mine for a few business meetings.

Hello everyone, I just join onto this forums. Don't bite me!

I'm an old member of overclock.net and I used to have a custom rigged built up over span of 10 years. Finally coming back to mobile world of PC after owning some old Dell Inspiron 9300, HP HDX16 and MacBook Pro 15' 2011.

Now ASUS Zephyrus GX501VIK is just mind blowing. This is my 3rd day owning it, already purchase a Case Logic model "LODO 15.6" LAPTOP SLEEVE" for it. I think it fits good unless someone can recommend something much better sleeve or protection. This laptop is very rigid and slippery! It's like driving a Lambo in a city road fill with potholes.

    I'm the poster on reddit.

The odd thing about ASUS, I wonder why TurboBoost and ROG GameFirst IV is missing out of box.

I’m considering this laptop but the mention of speaker distortion and touchpad issues has me hesitant. Are these isolated problems or do all units have them?

My CPU can easily sit on 90c and spike to 96c while playing destiny 2 and rainbow 6 siege at 120 fps. with -135mv on vcore and -130mv on vcache. My GPU never goes above 77c, which is pretty good.
Locking fps at 60 can bring it down to almost silent fan speeds and cool temps, but I really want to run high fps.

Is it ok to keep running my CPU at those temps daily for 4-6 hours gaming? I'm not really going to keep this laptop past 4 years.

Also going to repaste with CLU at some point when a disassembly guide is out. I don't know if its ok to remove the tape that's over the fan and heatsink.

Maybe I got lucky with my chip. My cpu temps don't hit 90 ever playing pubg. I cant reach much lower than - 100mv though.
Does it work that way? Lucky with the temps but not lucky with how far I can undervolt?

I've seen 95c 96c in benchmark but not in games. In games runs between 70-87c and stock voltage. What was your ambient temperature?

My ambient temp is 21c and getting cold here in Canada. Ambient temperature do factor the high end temp by up to 10c

What is your BIOS version? Mine is 300.

This is making me question Intel in puzzle why the 7700HQ start off with such high voltage leads to high temperature?

I lower to -0.125v on the CPU and still able to maintain same clock, bench scores and no crash. Maybe not passing Prime95 (haven't test it) but as far there is no real freeze crash issue. 5min stress CPU+GPU combine to see the real heavy load. Some games like MMO do use CPU and GPU heavy like FFXIV actually causing my CPU to hit 95'c on average with Core #1 did hit 99'c ... holy moly.

Below here with underbolt, check the temp at the bottom taskbar and etc. for 5min runtime.

Yeah, but that is useful to find highest temp. I mean in general run like games and apps. temps are 75-85'c after undervolt.

I know a second person who returned theirs for trackpad issues and was given a replacement model with the same issues. I'm guessing they are software. As of late, the issues have diminished slightly (due to microsoft windows updates) as the zephyrus runs on both asus and microsoft trackpad drivers. I have spoken with a lvl 3 tech on it and had some videos sent to the software engineers at Asus.

For those interested.. For about two weeks I've ran the system without rog gaming center installed. Gpu Temps were 79c max ( with +225/200 msi overclock)
I installed rog gaming center just to see if the fans would be affected beyond the bios parameters. What I noticed was that the gpu stayed under 74c, pulled a max of 137watts. Previously I'd only seen about 128watts before.

The fans seem louder, I guess they are. Maybe running the gaming center gives the fans more gumption.

So what is ROG Game Center?
Just a pretty face with no substance?
I mean if you can’t control the CPU or GPU what’s the point besides having all the info in one place? Does it control the keyboard lighting too or is that a different program?
It’s been a while since I’ve owned a Asus laptop so not sure what to expect.
Not sure if it’s been asked but does the ROG Game Center clash with XTU/ Throttle Stop or MSI afterburner/ nVidia inspector?
Those are my main go to programs I use to OC and undervolt .
Some resellers offer free options for upgrading the thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU and in your opinion guys what would be the best option to keep temps at the coolest:

    IC Diamond on CPU/GPU

    Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra on CPU/GPU

Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra on CPU/ IC Diamond on GPU

    Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on CPU/GPU

Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on CPU/ IC Diamond on GPU

Heard good things about Thermal Grizzly and CLU but never used any of them personally, one thing I’ve heard is that CLU gets dry and flaky as it ages and needs to be repasted but is a real pain to apply. I generally don’t repaste myself unless it’s necessary or if the warranty period is over to avoid not screwing with the actual warranty. I know some companies are OK with you pasting yourself but not sure where Asus stands.

Thanks and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Phobya NanoGreace is the new standard in non-conductive thermal paste excellence. It has the consistency/viscosity of ICD with slightly better thermal conductivity than Grizly Kryonaut.

As stated earlier in the thread, removing heat-sink voids warranty; so not many repasted systems for data. I am not sure how re-sellers are getting around this.

move your finger faster. Try getting your finger wet/moist. All trackpads are jittery like that when you move slowly, and the driver settings don't let you adjust the sensitivity or motion.

I was asking about these options, these are the ones resellers offer, they don’t offer Phobya NanoGreace.

I think that's because eco mode stays on when you don't have rog gaming center. With rog gaming center installed you can turn it on or off. With eco mode off I get lower temps and higher power draw. I think the fans can't run full speed with eco mode on.

It's worth having for eco mode off - higher fans speeds and lower temps alone. Unless there's another method of turning off eco mode. I retested it today on a fresh install, playing destiny 2 at 60 fps and at 120 fps, then installing rog gaming center and turning off eco mode, temps reduced 8c and fans noticbly louder.
