Totally. I'm just explaining that basically, as I've said several times in this thread before, with this kit, my laptop's cpu performance jumped by like 7-10%

edit: So basically, you want better RAM, because you can't access XMP in the BIOS - this is the kit to get.

Unless you already have the good samsung RAM ... which i've seen posts saying the 32gig kits they ship are sometimes just as good. apparently.

yea, my stock 32gb at 3200mhz single rank seems to be pretty good, because getting 64gb of hyperx which is also dual rank only increased my time spy by 14 points... totally worth $470.

My G533 has Samsung RAM. How can I check if it’s the “good kit”? Any particular specs to look at?

I'm sorry because I quote myself but you can see the samsung kit I have here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...3q-owners-lounge.835428/page-19#post-11108916

It's a 32 go kit named M471A2G43AB2-CWE and honestly almost quite as good as kingston kit.

If you don't have the same kit, I don't know how to be sure without test. :s

    That module is 1Rx8 - 3200Mhz - CL22 which is great.
The tRFC is at 880 which is not terrible but could be better.

You wouldn't notice much difference at all changing your ram.
Here is my Zentimings with the best available ram kit
    [IMG]

Tl;DR : no need to replace your ram, it's perfectly fine.

It's the good stuff for this Laptop for sure. Or well, any laptop w/o the ability to tweak ram in BIOS! Heh!

    Hello,

I've followed your guide. I may have bad cooling on my 5900HX, because my Cinebench score won't go over 13200 :( (office temp 22°C).
With what Armoury Crate preset do you run Cinebench please ?

    Thanks !

Hello, I've tried your AATU tuto, as well as another on YouTube.
I JUST DON'T KNOW HOW YOU CAN GET 90W/100W as AATU won't replace Armoury crate CPU Settings at all with your tuto. I've checked with HWINFO..
The only thing that works is lowering the wattage (checked with HWINFO).

Either you keep secrets about AATU, eitehr it's impossible to override Armoury Crate CPU wattage...

    Any clues welcomed :)

No secrets. I just don't use AATU and do OC directly via ryzenadj adding it as windows task (a little harder). It monitors values and sets them to specific if Armory Crate restores to default. All explained here: https://github.com/FlyGoat/RyzenAdj, just read all sections.

    Hello,

First of all I understand nothing when reading the RyzenAdj Github page... I'm not English or American.

Second, your "proof" is not a proof....

I've applied the same settings as yours, I had your CMD screen, same values. My Cinebench score is not even reaching 13400.

So mate, again, what's your secret please ? If you don't want to write a tutorial, just say ;)

Hi guys thanks to you all! some really usefull stuff and clever people in this thread! Helped me get way more out of my laptop. i was a little disappointed with it initially, but now im happy with the ram and vbios changes.

One thing i want to do is change the display currently 1080p 300hz, i want to swap it to the 1440p 165hz display thats available.
    1080 is 40pin 0.5mm pitch connector
    1440p is 40pin 0.4mm pitch connector
I can get an adapter so it physically fits but i cant find any pin out info to confirm they are the same pin config? Anyone know if they are compatible ?

    Hi all,

Long time lurker (since about 2009) but I just signed-up. I was thinking about the 2021 Scar 15 or the 2021 Strix G15 and was wondering if anyone had an opinion of one versus the other..

The differences between the two configurations was as follows:

Strix Scar 15: RTX 3070 and QHD 165Hz panel
Strix G15: RTX 3060 and FHD 300Hz panel

Both configurations have the Ryzen 9 5900HX, 32 Gb RAM, 1 TB SSD

I was also thinking of getting it from HIDevolution and have them repaste the GPU and add Fujipolymer pads I know @Donald@HIDevolution is no longer there and Donald is now @Donald@zTecpc. So my question is, after Donald's departure, is HID evolution still reliable and customer focused? I had purchased an Asus G51J in 2009 from Gen Tech PC and then an MSI GS65 in 2018, but was never quite certain if they did the repasting they promised. I stumbled across HIDevolution in the GS65 Owner's forum but by that time my GS65 had been delivered - not to mention it was built in the first month or two of launch and the initial design had some flaws that were only discovered by users months later.

Thanks for any and all input regarding either topic.

I would choose the Scar 15. Mine has a 300hz display but the qhd 165hz is much better for the 3070 and also the image quality is more premium.
I recommend you to reapply the liquid metal and you will get awesome temperatures.
My cpu stops at 80 degrees and the gpu is 77 max with turbo mode, manual is better than this
Awesome machine for the price if you want asus

@Tomy24 , thanks for the reply. Earlier today I spent some time on the phone with Max@hidevolution. I had read that Asus is now applying Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut at the factory and that the thermal materials used in newer laptops are much better on the whole. I think zTecpc is even not recommending customers repaste newer machines or not even offering the repaste as an option on certain machines.

With all that said, I placed an order for the Scar 15, but opted not to use Gelid on the GPU or add Fujipoly to the VRM's. I did opt for the 30-day dead pixel guarantee for $35. They still offer an NBR forum discount. Because my laptop was over $2,000, the discount was $50, or else it would have been $20. They are also offering 2.5% discount if you use a check, wire transfer, or Zelle. I used Zelle. Now the hardest part of the purchase is ahead - the wait.

On a separate note, does anyone use the Scar 15 with a dock, and if so which dock do you prefer? My desktop machine is in desperate need of an overhaul but with this new purchase, I was thinking of using the new laptop in a dual role. My MSI monitor has DP so I can use a USB-C to DP cable from the laptop to the monitor and bypass potential Optimus slowdown. The reason I was asking about the dock was because it will be a ton easier to disconnect one cable from the laptop and not 3 or 4 when I want to move the Scar.

Again thanks for all the input.

@Tomy24 , the boys over at NotebookCheck.com saw something similar.

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-...n-3-and-165-Hz-1440p-Sweet-Spot.551441.0.html

I need to check the design specs on the new Ryzen chips. If the top end is 105 oC, some folks are comfortable with a delta of 10 oC from Max. I guess the question becomes longevity. Conventional wisdom implies lower temperatures increase longevity, but with newer technologies and die materials, do those old precepts still apply? I do not have an answer, but I am curious. If the temps do rise and people know the temps rise, why are resellers not recommending the repaste? It's not a huge increase in sales price but the resellers are foregoing $65-$95 on average.

Anyway, according to HIDevolution my transfer went through so hopefully they will get to my order some time next week. Not sure how much I want to stress test it right off the bat, but I am curious as to the temps (right out of the box).

    Be well.

@kill4l I have not yet received my unit so I cannot actually compare your findings with any personal observations. From my readings, I have seen people having some connection difficulties going between a USB-c docking station and an external monitor. A possible reason in those cases is that people were using a DP to HDMI cable or an HDMI to DP cable. The port changing via a cable is passive whereas some docks will need an active adapter if you want to change ports.

if that situation does not apply to you, I would ask are you using a cable that is rated high enough to handle the throughput?

    Be well.

@kill4l , interesting. I guess, rhetorically, I would ask are the set-ups on both laptops the same (i.e. same drivers, same software running, etc.). Another rhetorical question would be, is the flickering random or is it constant or is there any preceding event / condition? Do you have a different USB-c to DP cable to try? If you really think it is the port, I would not mess around too much, and while the unit is under warranty, have an authorized tech check it out.

On a different note, by this Friday I should be officially in the Scar 15 brotherhood. Received notification from HIDevolution that my order shipped via FedEx yesterday. FedEx ground from California to Florida is 4 days. My fingers are crossed.

    @Hicks Russell Awesome.

FedEx just delivered my shiny new Scar 15. I feel like it is Christmas. Now I need to decide if I want to use a Displayport docking station or a USB-C to Displayport 1.4 cable to connect to my monitor.

If I use a USB-C to Displayport cable I will obviously save $$$ but after I connect an external keyboard and mouse to the laptop I will only have 1 free USB-A port which might get used for a cooling pad. The Anker Power Expand USB-C docking station looks nice but right now it is around $260 on Amazon compared to $15-$20 for a USB-C to DP 1.4 cable. Any thoughts?

Om a separate note, @Spartan@HIDevolution are you @Phoenix from the old MSI GS65 Stealth forum, and by chance are you Max? If you are Max, thanks for the time you spent answering all my thermal and memory questions before I ordered the laptop.

    Be well all.

    Ooops senior moment.

One last question for all the Asus Armory Crate Veterans / Aficionados, is they ay good guide or tutorial on how to tweak the various settings, and which maybe are garbage so disable or don't use. I know I saw a screenshot a few posts back about a custom fan curve but right now I think I am going through information overload with the new unit. Also need to decide if I want to take the Samsung Evo out of my old MSI GS 65 and put it into the new Scar 15.

I seem to be getting random USB drops and it reconnects when I transfer larger data files from the phone or a external HD.
    Anyone getting similar drops.

It sounds like you guys have had your fair share of issues with the strix scar15's, i had a strix scar 17 (basically the same thing), that i had to exchange in for another laptop coz it had a few wonky issues
    - wonky touchpad that even after disassembly and reassembly wouldnt be flat (the actual touchpad itself seemed warped)
    - some of the mechanical keys were extremely mushy compared to the rest

Couldnt complain about the performance though, was quite good and the screen was quite amazing

I get random USB drops and reconnects, if I cant find a solution by the end of the week. I am returning this thing back to Amazon and going intel and back to MSI. AMD has lots of small issue while Intel doesnt.

I can see that happening yeah, AMD does have a lot of room to grow since this is basically their first real attempt back at the laptop high end market where it was basically just intel for a good part of the last 10 years

I would say MSI quality is usually a step higher than ASUS in the past ownership of my laptops, the only times i really went with asus is when i didnt want to fork over the insane amount of money some MSI laptops go for, basically the MSI ge76 raider where i am costs nearly $8000 NZD (nz dollars), whereas the asus equivalent that was the strix scar17 was $4800, and the current zephyrus duo i exchanged for is around $5500

But as they say, you get what you pay for

As for the random disconnects, does it happen to every device thats plugged into the port? or just on some devices, it could be conflicting drivers or any number of issues

It happens to mostly when I connect my phone to any USB port. Sometimes a external SSD USB drive.
I'm a truck driver so I phone tether to the laptop to download shipper paper work and to watch movies/shows on this laptop.
I never happened to the MSI laptop that I sold this laptop for, a GP76 with intel 11800h, and 3070. But the 17in screen is too large for a semi truck where space is a premium. Both my ex-MSI laptops never had the same issues, I went from a GE75 to GP76, both with intel processor. I've read that Mr fox that the same issues with his desktop 5650x 16 core processor, and still does.

I think I will just return this POS back to Amazon, I already ordered a MSI gs66 last night. I've had this Asus laptop for 1.5weeks, every day its the same dropping $hit.

Hi folks, I'm in need of some service help.
The CPU fan has been irreparably damaged. The fan blades are broken. Several of the fan blades have been broken off. The fan was making a loud humming noise and spinning at a higher-than-normal RPM, followed by the sound of the blades hitting on something inside of the laptop. Upon opening the laptop, the fan showed physical damage with pieces of the fan all over the inside of the laptop.

I'm within my warranty.. But would rather not go through that process if I can fix it myself.
Are there available/compatible fan's for the asus scar 15 g533qr?

edit: It's a simple fan repair, what could possibly go wrong?
    I went with this https://www.asus-accessories.com/laptop/cooling-system/cpu-fan/cpu-fan-89473-75829.htm.

I get the feeling Asus would somehow blame me for this and not cover it under the warranty.

you can actually buy the fan on aliexpress. both fans (original one) costs around 80-90 USD, it's easy to remove the fans just unscrew 3 screws and disconnect the power cable. and put the new fans. i cleaned my fans recently i removed them completely without needing to remove the cooling system which i really like in this laptop ) hope that will help u
this a youtube link it shows the full disassembly of G533 :)

Hey friends, has anyone had luck enabling HDR on an external screen ? I'm using an LG CX, but whenever I play a game it says my display is not HDR capable. I tried setting it using Window's HD Color Setting, but everytime I move the switch it gets moved back to the off position.

    Thanks in advance.

i'm using Samsung G7 odyssey as an external monitor, and HDR works, the only issue for me is that i can't access the bios on my external screen. no matter what type of connection i use.

Not all laptops can do this. The only way I've been able to reliably get this to happen is by disconnecting the internal screen and then if the laptop CAN do it ... it will default to an external screen. In my experience MOST Asus laptops do not have this function though.

Are you having issues with the charging part USB type C.

I have issues with the 2 USB port on the left side disconnecting when ever I seem to transfer larger data files with my phone or a USB stick.

i didn't use the usb-c port for charging yet, other ports works perfectly, but the usb-c displayport is pain in the ass... sometimes i need to flip the cable to make it work correctly. i tried many genuine cables and all have the same issue. so i'm pretty sure there is a problem with port it self.

Anybody tried using this system with the lid closed? I know other AMD ASUS laptops tend to just spontaneously shut down for thermal reasons (Even when they aren't thermalling).

If this isn't possible, is it possible to disable the internal monitor while it's open if an external monitor is plugged in?

    EDIT:
Okay never mind. I just tested it a bit and the system seems to run cooler??????? with the lid closed? Any ways. No throttling, so ... gtg.

Hi, I have a question regarding Ram i g533qs (5900hx, rtx3080, 16gb ram). It suggested all around to buy Kingston hyperx 3200 cl20, as it is not possible to overclock ram in our bios.

I've been looking everywhere, and it is generally out of stock in Europe

Is there any other I shall look for, with 3200 for my Asus?
    For example there is G.SKILL RIPJAWS 3200mhz cl22 f4-3200C22D-64GRS
    ?
There is also slightly slower Hyper X 2933mhz cl17 kf429s17ibk2/64

Will there be a big difference?
need 64gb for unreal editor, I do not play games, just editing/rendering.

I know for a fact that this stuff operates at cl20 ... because I have 32g of it in my system right now. The performance improvement was about 9% ... so absolutely significant.

If you can find the 64g kit of it, that'll be your best bet, I think.

edit: wow never mind, the 64g kit of that stuff is 4x sodimms. **** that's assy.

    Sorry dude.

Any ways, the point is, it's possible to get lower latency 3200 ... it just has to be .... weirdly specific. Let me ask my RAM expert friend. Lol

Yeah, I realized it's going to be a problem. Ok, but which one, from two I posted will perform better? They are available in the place I live.
