I should receive my G752VS today or tomorrow.
I'm from Germany and ordered directly from amazon.de, but the notebook is shipping from UK, which I thought was strange.
The exact model number in the order confirmation is "G752VS-GC054T" and I wonder if it is going to be a UK version. When I enter that modelnumber in google all I get are results for a very high specced UK i6820hk/32gb version but i ordered and paid for a lower spec german i6700hq/16gb version.
I wonder if there was a mixup on Amazon's side, if it's the wrong model I'll return it because the keyboard UK keyboard layout would bother me too much.
Is there a way to tell the exact specs of the laptop from the model number or will I have to wait and read the box sticker?
edit: Well it arrived today and it's the UK model. It even came with a ROG bag, headset and mouse. Haven't unboxed it yet, waiting for Amazon to call back to figure out how to deal with this.
Sticker says:
- LCD: 17.3 FHD SLIM WV
- VRAM: 8GB
- CPU: INTEL I7-6820HK/BGA
- HDD: 1TB 72R+512G PCIE SSD

- USB:3.0*4+USB3.1

Yes. Of course!
Congratulations on your new purchase! -

That's the 5 second mod. lol
Well, it looks like you were taking the scenic route with it.
I just used one of my pry tools (Staple remover) and the whole thing came off. -
-
better way to do it I guess -
You are only as good as your tools.

Temperatures matter a lot to gpu performance
This run is on top of an AC unit: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9883133
This run is over ambient (24c): h

Lost almost 200 points there
Also people, be careful of your VRM GPU temperature, my unit didn't get any thermal paste/gel on the VRM heatsink so that might cause throttle or long term damage to your system.Last edited: Aug 23, 2016Papusan likes this. -

Yeah. It starts throttle at 50c or above.
The problem, even when benching with AC, is that fan does not spin up under certain temperature. Losing a lot of the advantage of direct cold air.Papusan likes this. -
Hi everybody, just bought G752VS-XB72K from frys electronics. One question, on the back near the vents there are these two dust plugs? Is one supposed to take them off when using the laptop? I know it says to keep them on when not using the laptop, but how about when its turned on? How does one take them off, pull them off or something? Thanks for any good answers.

I would suggest you buy from HIDEvolution or XOTIC that honors their in-house warranty even though you disassemble the machine. Return it to Frys since you will be stuck with ASUS customer support which is terrible.
You are supposed to plug off when using, plug in when not using. This is a feature ASUS make to throw away dust from system internal, however, I am not sure how effective it is.Johnksss likes this. -
Hi Mobius 1, thanks for your reply. I looked through your topic regarding the disassembly of the g752vs, i'm probably not going to take apart the system that far, maybe install a different drive-ssd, etc. I have bought a couple of clevo laptops in the past from rjtech.com where the parts (cpu/heatsink) wlan, hdd, ssd, memory etc. where not installed when i received it, so i know a bit regarding that. Decided to go to frys this time to purchase a gaming laptop, was waiting for the new nvidia gpus to come out. I even received a promotional email from frys about the new laptops. Asus had told me to keep the plugs on for some reason, but I'll take them out when using the laptop.
Do i just pull out the dust plugs, or is it attached at all in one section? -
Just pull them out. They won't go anywhere because they have a retain wire holding them while unplugged.
-
manager at micro center said he just cut the wire off and throw the plugs back in the box :| -
I cut them off the first day. Was like...what are these white ties doing here. Although I think i'll put them back, but with black ties instead.Papusan likes this. -
As for me, I don't buy the anti dust thing, seems like it won't be effective. But I won't have the opportunity to own the machine long enough to test the dust thing.
Also, does anyone notice some crazy strong angle snapping while you drag with the trackpad at low speeds?
Seems like the slower your movement on the trackpad, more angle snapping will be applied to the movement....

Got my baby.
Really love it. Played WoW ultra all day without reaching 75c once even if its already 33c in my room.
I cant believe how quiet it is.
Gonna test Doom tonight and run some benchs.
Screen is beautifull, coming from a glossy Led 14' (aw mx14) i can feel the difference. -

As for the trackpad issue from hibernate/sleep, try enable/disable touchpad using FN+F9 a few times. Could fix the issue without rebooting.Johnksss likes this. -
I upgraded the bios to 304 and clean installed the os, but now the lightbar in between the vents does not come on, even if i switch on in rog gaming center, and the lights on the back of the notebook display just stay on? Also, where do i download the sonic studio and sonic radar? Anybody know?

@Milardo
according to ASUS they're supposed to be available when you download the audio driver from the respective model of motherboard/laptop

I have no idea what is wrong with my laptop, maybe because i installed windows anniversary edition for that clean install?
-
Not sure, but i think its lower. Anyway to downgrade bios?
-
I am on windows anniversary, I have no trouble with 304 bios
As for the downgrade, not sure if the flash tool would allow that... -
304 should be far better 303 was pretty high on voltage.
You can down grade but you would need to do it from dos using the factory 303 bin file
afudos.exe 303.bin /p /b /n /x These are the switches I use, not sure if you really don't need them all. -
Anyways, I benched some more on AC and found out my max memory clock is +700, +800 scales backwards on firestrike ultra graphics score. -
That's a rightly nice overclock there.
-
GeForce GTX 1070 (Desktop) 1920 @ 1506 - 1886 (Boost) MHz 256 Bit @ 8000 MHz
GeForce GTX 1070 (Laptop) 2048 @ 1443 - 1645 (Boost) MHz 256 Bit @ 8000 MHz
This is a much further downclock vs the 1060 and 1080.
Where as the:
GeForce GTX 1080 (Desktop) 2560 @ 1607 - 1733 (Boost) MHz 256 Bit @ 10000 MHz
GeForce GTX 1080 (Laptop) 2560 @ 1682 - 1670 (Boost) MHz 256 Bit @ 10000 MHz
Boost is a 63mhz difference
and
GeForce GTX 1060 (Desktop) 1280 @ 1506 - 1708 (Boost) MHz 192 Bit @ 8000 MHz
GeForce GTX 1060 (Laptop) 1280 @ 1405 - 1670 (Boost) MHz 192 Bit @ 8000 MHz
Boost is a 38mhz difference.
Which leaves the 1070 way out there. So I'm thinking the 1070 is an easy overclocker and once overclocked gives the best value of the 3 cards.
I'm also open to upgrading my msi 1762 barebones with a 680m to either this Asus or an MSI GT73VR
My 680m is showing its age. I can't run Dark Souls3, Witcher3 and Deus Ex Mankind Divided at 1080p without the games running significantly slower. I have to settle for 720p for a smooth experience. Its sad when more recent cards are running games at 1440p or now flirting with 4k lol.
I would really like the 1080 but they are significantly more expensive.Last edited: Aug 27, 2016birdyhands likes this. -
I put core +80, passed FS Ultra stress test.
You cannot upgrade your 1762 to a 1080 or 1070 or 1060, the BIOS EC doesn't support the Pascal and eDP output. -
Cool. Ya by upgrade I meant to buy a new laptop either the Asus or an MSI.

So temps on stock good or not? Worth to buy g752vs?
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk -
It's good if you repaste with liquid metal thermal paste. On stock the thermal paste is just a joke and will make laptop overheat.
I also recommend buying arctic silver thermal adhesive mix and gluing on small heastink on top of the heatpipe to improve cooling.
I still think that the GPU offloads too much heat to the CPU side, under extreme / worst case scenario (OCCT CPU @4.1GHz + Unigine Heaven 4K max Tesselation) it will make CPU throttle. But realistically it should not reach those temps/usage while gaming, everyday use etc.
If you do not like the complexity of the (dis)assembly (see disassembly guide), I think you need to find another brand.
Also consider this cooling mod if you have the time:birdyhands likes this. -
What about NBR's own review?
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-G752VS-Notebook-Review.171608.0.html
It says the temperatures hit ~ 80 C for CPU and ~ 74 C for GPU. That's not too bad I guess.hmscott likes this. -
When I first turned mine on hit 95C after about 8 seconds.

They run stock, we like to OC and get the most out of the machine.
With liquid metal (Grizzly Conductonaut) I can sustain 70W+ without breaking 75c (CPU only) when overclocked to 4.1GHz (-4.9mV)
