Sounds like it doesn't have power and the battery is dead. Is the green light on the AC Adaptor? Does the charge light on the front come on when plugged in?

:) Hey, thanks, that worked, hopefully it will help others also.

I was on the right track but may have forgotten to change the input of the screen to HDMI while I busy changing cables; it doesn't recognize where the signal is coming from automatically.

Got my G73SW the other day and noticed there is only 2 memory slots under the back cover. 1 is populdated and I can see the other module under the motherboard. The manual says there is 2 slots on each side of the motherboard.

Do I have to take the whole thing apart to upgrade the memory as I cannot get to the other slots?

windows should allready be installed if u just pulled it out of the box...
looks like your OS is Farked up.
grab a copy of windows, windows 7 will run better as some things arnt supported by vista and XP. try boot from the CD drive.
Are u able to get into the bios menu?

I found the teardown video for these on youtube but it looked like the keyboard assembly takes a beating pulling it out because it's sticky taped to the underlying shielding, any tricks to removing it without bending the crap out of it?

Yup, I did the tear down to upgrade ram. Undo all the latches (5 IIRC) and then gently pull up the keyboard like pulling up a sticker. It will not go back like factory.... but if you want to get in there, that's the way. You can't access that side of the mobo without it. You could try strategically places double sided tape when putting it back together... I didn't... but their HQ wont do a better job anyway.

For anyone else who's interested, here's a test I ran on my HDD's in the 3de. Compares all the virtual options provided by win 7.... raid 1, 0 and spanned to stock.

    Hi all,

I am from Australia and will be heading to the US in may. I was looking to get G73SW-XA1 from amazon $1399 sent to my hotel whilst there, however it seems like they are now all sold out with a expected delivery of 2-4 weeks (staying in US till 28th may).

The next best option seems to be the G73SW-XT1 from tigerdirect for $1499 (paying $100 more for -250g hdd + bluray player).

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...-details.asp?EdpNo=7124324&csid=ITD&body=MAIN

I have had a look at the page and was wanting to confirm that it does have a 2 year global warranty on it. From what I can see it has the Asus360 pic posted on there but when looking at the warranty information it doesnt state global.

    Just:
    Manufactured by: Asus
    Warranty provided by: Asus
Limited Warranty: 24 months parts; 24 months labor
    Mfg Part No: G73SW-XT1
    UPC No: 884840794820
    Box Size: ( Length: 23, Width: 5, Depth: 15 )
    Shipping Weight: 13.4000 pound(s)

Has anyone purchased the same model and could give me the heads up? Id rather pay about $1500 and have global warranty than pay this...
    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/asus/17-inch-notebook-sku-66297/
Also if it does have global warranty, do I have to be a US citizen or provide a US address when filling in the warranty?

I have tried contacting both tigerdirect and asus and both have been very unhelpful with answering this question

    Thanks in advance

I can't check on GPU-z because I'm like you, in that I haven't actually bought the laptop yet, but according to NVIDIA's website, it's 192.

Yeah but according to thier site there is no 128-bit version.

But the G73SW-BST6 at bestbuy has it. So nVidia's site doesnt help us.

That screenshot is from a G73SW-3DE. Which definitely has the 192-bit GPU. This is model specific, so someone needs to run GPU-z on an XR1 to actually be sure. Same deal as with the G73SW-BST6.

    Hey guys,

I recently bought a Asus G73SW-TZ083V. Im happy with most of it, except 1 problem.

When I play Starcraft 2 the frame rate is excellent, except once every 2-3 minutes it will hang for a few seconds. The sound will hang at the same time. Also sometimes only the sound will hang while the game keeps on playing. This really throws me off my game, and since its the only game I really play, im very much bummed out by this.

I updated the video drivers to the newest version through the nvidia website. Also used the asus tool to update. When I noticed the laptop had 85 processes running, I formatted it, still no progess. When I inserted the asus driver dvd, I went up from 35 to 75 processes or so, the company software seems awefully cluncky.

Do any of you guys have an answer to this problem? Im seriously considering returning it, even playing on lowest graphics would be ok but I at least want no spikes.

Gnarg, i also have the G73SW. i have the 3D version however. i will install starcraft 2, as i do play it occasionally. Does it definately hang roughly every 2-3 minutes? while playing will i definately be able to notice this problem if it happens to me?

edit: also do u have Power4Gear installed? this is a great little built in program which increases the clock speed of the 2630qm processor on the g73sw.
make sure your using High Performance mode.

dont worry, im installing it now :)

    edit:
Ive got a problem installing from the Disk.... its giving me an error saying i dont have permission to access the files. this hasnt happend before. i can see only some of the files on the disk, roughly 8mb's worth of files. the rest doesnt show up.

    edit:
opening it in PowerISO allows me to see all the files some reason. im gonna make an image of the disk and install from the image.

the online installer needs to download 7gb or so, and u cant install until its all downloaded. Thats gonna take ages :(

ok so after making the disc image the problem still occurs. i have previously installed from this disk, so i know for sure it is ok. this is weird. windows troubleshooter is saying incompatible application. :/
edit: disc works fine on another pc :/

This might be me making an idiot of myself, since I don't own the laptop and haven't used Windows 7, but ..

When I surfing the forums, I see people with these problems, and the first thing that someone says is, "Are you using the "Install as administrator" setting. So, since no one seems to have produced it yet, I'll add that query in. Could be totally irrelevant, but won't hurt to check.

You also say, "windows troubleshooter is saying incompatible application." I'm assuming that your problem comes with the install program for StarCraft 2 - not one of the utilities you've mentioned. Now there are a lot of people out there putting Starcraft 2 on a G73SW - that's the sort of game that made people by the G73SW in the first place. From this I conclude that the laptop isn't fundamentally unable to play SC2.

So, I'd suggest first seeing if you can find out what application is incompatible with the SC2 installer - it might be whatever you're using to handle 3D - I think others have had problems there.

Have you tried looking at the forums for SC2 itself, or for nVidia?

As to the frequent freezes, I once found that a game was doing that because it kept reading files from the disk, and the anti-virus program insisted on checking each files every time it had to be loaded - and that certainly slowed things down. Another time the culprit was a program which tried to access the internet too frequently - ordinarily it didn't trouble me, but because the game handled memory/disk access differently from normal apps it glitched when I played the game.

Anyhow, don't give up on the game or the machine yet. Try shutting off your internet access (in fact try shutting off your network access, in case it's checking for something else) and seeing if the game plays any better.

Again, this was a long time ago and in a galaxy far, far away.

Hehe, running as administrator is the first thing i always try...
I believe the problem lies with the blueray combo drive... This is not a fault with starcraft itself as the disk works fine in all my other computers... I tried to make an image file from the disk using nero burning rom, and all was successful except the installer.exe file.... I also noticed on my disk that most the installation files on the starcraft disk are hidden. 7gb of the 7.2gb installation is hidden files. Can anyone advise me on what to do now? WhT else to try?
I tried uninstalling the blue ray dvd/cd drive from device manager and then reinstalling. This made no difference... The disk drive should be plug and play so there shudnt be any drivers required. I searched the net for like an hour on this problem and found nothing at all.... I think i can safely say its not game related...
    Oh yes and on that incompatability issue;
This came up on the windows troubleshooter after i initially got the error. It just said "starcraft 2" and there was a tickbox with. Red cross in it i think, and next to it said incompatible. (typing on forum from iphone right now as its late and i cba to use the laptop)

Where does the G73 intake air from?

I've heard it takes air in from the top by the speakers, but also that it takes air in from the "front" but i dont see where that could be

Can anyone tell me the correct place it intakes air from? Thanks :)

Hmm installing it on the other drive... havent tried that yet, going to.

I have those 500 gb drives with 4 gb ssd, maybe it stutters when it transfers from SSD to normal drive space? I dunno, I am not so well versed in computer technology.

I tried installing it on my other drive, and in single player it doesnt stutter now. Havent tried it online yet, im currently on vacation and the internet here is very slow. I havent played single player on this laptop before, so no idea if its fixed now, but seems so :D. Thanks a bunch!

Probably should still return it though cause the 2nd drive seems botched then, if it turns out this is the solution.

from briefly looking at my g73sw it doesn't seem to have any air intakes. The underneath has slits in which the air must be being taken in, however there is no sign of a fan there to intake air. Under the screen there is a very fine mesh like surface, and i think the air is pulled in from there. Unless the two fans at the back are powerful enough to just pull air in from anywhere there is a hole. lmao

i looked online and the diagrams showing the air intake are a bit cheesy. because they show air being taken in from the front underside however there is no hole their, except for the "Subwoofer" on the left side.

Hmm... i cant imagine why its so hard to find them, cant you feel the air being taken in with your hand? :p

Most things i've found say from above the keyboard/under the screen by the speakers. But many dont agree.

But there is definetly some confusion... o_O
And ive found 5 different things that say different answers.

bleh, i think it just uses the strength of the 2 huge fans to suck air in from anywhere it can come in from... there is a considerable amount of air being pushed out the back, so im not very sure exactly

Ok so i have this issue. i want to install everything on my first(primary) hard disk, but i cant get my partition manager program to let me increase the size of the partition. i removed all my media and other junk to the second disk already, and deleted my second partition on my first disk. but it doesn't let me increase the partition on my first disk. if your confused ill reexplain.
basically i want to install all my programs and games in the OS partition which currently is only around 150gb. At the rate im going its going to be full very soon, so i want to increase the partition size.

An alternative approach i could consider is somehow merging both my 750gb hard disks to create One big 1.5TB drive. any clues how to do this? i can easily get access to a partition program. right now im trying with EASEUS partition master.

Once again I'm suggesting ideas in the absence of hard evidence. Still I did come up with "it might be an AV problem," so I'll keep going.

AFAIK, the only way to "combine" the drives is by setting your hard drives up in a RAID configuration. I'm still unconvinced by their utility in a consumer setup, and especially in a notebook (tho' I'm aware that I'm increasingly in a minority on this issue). Much better to try to work out why your existing hard drive isn't performing as it should. You should investigate that anyway.

You say you are using EASEUS. I'm looking at How to free extend system partition, enlarge or extend C: drive partition and I'm assuming that it shows pretty much what you are looking at.

If you go through the stages mentioned in that list, do you get as far as stage 3? If not, how far do you get?

If so, when you look at the "Resize/Move Partition" dialog box, how much unallocated space is shown before and after the C: partition?

Okay so I have a question here: I'm looking to buy the Asus G73SW-XT1 and I was wondering if anyone knew if the video card could be removed and replaced with the Geforce GTX 485m later?

As far as I know, there is no way to setup a raid array in the g73sw.

Only can use the win 7/server 2k3/8 virtual raids / dynamic disks.

That's why I posted the stats I did, incase anyone is interested.

I used stripped, raid 0, for my 3de. doubled the read write speed, but losing redundancy.

If you look back a ways there is a post from Ken Lee and some pictures, technically the video card is replaceable/swappable but he is unaware of any card out there right now that will fit properly. He seated a different card and by holding it down was able to get the system to post and boot, but he had to hold it down because none of the mounting holes/brackets lined up. I will say I've seen some vendors offering the G73 with an upgraded GPU so there may be a way to do it, but thus far I've seen no other evidence of it.

Can anyone comment on that ChiMei N173HGE-L21 panel? The system in Notebookcheck's review ( link) has a HannStar panel, which is said to be superior.

Apparently Dell is now offering their latest XPS 17 (L702X) with either the N173HGE-L11 or the N173HGE-L21 panel with matte finish, so I figure the G73SW owners should be quite familiar it.

    Thanks!

First time poster, typing this from my new G73SW-A1. Its replacing a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite with an AMD SI-42, so this is a quantum leap forward in technology for me. I never had any issues with my old laptop but I broke my leg dumping my motorcycle so it couldn't handle its new role, entertainment. I was looking at the Asus N53 FHD but the lack of bluray and backlit keyboard hung me up. I started looking for something that would have everything i wanted and the Gseries fit the bill.

I didn't want 3d since I own a Panny P54VT25 and with the HDMI I can output games to the plasma.

Thats the CMO1726, I have it as well as a few others here have gotten it. I love it, doesnt have major backlight bleed like the hannstar. Colors and viewing angles are great as well.

Link is not currently working, but it has the specs for it.

EDIT: Here is a screenshot of the specs,

Welcome to the gseries club, the G73SW is certainly a nice laptop and this SB quad core handles everything ive been throwing at it.
