Thanks. I am installing an updated driver now. Something I found interesting, I attempted to install XP on a second partition to dual boot Vista and XP, but I kept getting the Blue screen of death after XP setup loaded all the files into memory. I tried it 4 times. I even went down to 2 gigs of RAM the fourth time thinking that maybe the 4 was confusing it. I have never tried to dual-boot before, so perhaps there is something I should take into consideration?
Also, I reinstalled the factory image last night and when I re-installed all the Vista updates, the never ending configuring updates loop ceased to exist. YAY!!!

^^^You probably can't install XP because the installation disc you are using doesn't include SATA drivers.

Ive noticed that unlike for example my 17 inch gateway FX, which has 2 fans, one for the cpu and one for the gpu, this laptop only has one which cools both things. Maybe thats why it isnt as effective. But then again, it is a 15 inch notebook... -

I seemed to have solved the FPS issue. When I set the game to 16-bit vice 32-bit color, I get smooth FPS the throughout the game. I guess the card just can't handle the 32-bit color??? -
-
I hooked up the HDMI to my 32" LCD and the picture looked absolutely beautiful.
If anyone is curious, on the Best Buy website it mentions the RAM as being PC2 5300....this is NOT correct. The RAM is actually 6400, so its 800MHz. -
Guys I just purchased one G50VT today. X1 edition, but I will get warranty directly with Asus. What I will do when I get the laptop are:
1. Test the X9100 on the machine and see if it's working nicely.
2. Benchmark the X9100 and 9800M GS and overclock the 9800M GS to see if it's catching up with the 9800M GTS in 7811FX.
3. See if the temperatures are ok to overclock to that high. Might try Q9100 or QX9300 on it and see if a.the laptop supports Q9100/QX9300 and b. if the temp issue is really serious as a 15" inch laptop. -

yeah... how?!!

2.4 GhZ Processor isn't bad. If you are impatient and need a laptop. You could check this out. Even though the A1 and A2 have 2.53. -

And I think newegg really meant 15.6?... their spec said 15.4, but.....
-
I think the newegg version is 15.4 16:10 (as will be the high-end A1 and A2 versoins from the other resellers). That's how it was with the original G50V.
-
Albeit I love technology, I'm still quite happy with my ASUS G1S... I'd OC'ed both the CPU @2.7GHZ and the GPU at near the 8700m GT clock specs... and along with some mods I did on its case (including the application of a new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU) and the use of an external cooling pad; I've been able to play games and use it OC'ed 24/7 with decent temps.
Therefore, despite the fact there are cool notebooks w/stronger vgas out there, I've got no intention AT ALL of buying a new laptop right now... I'd rather wait until there're more afordable Quadcore laptops on the market... cause only then, I think the upgrade would really pays off.
Perhaps til the 2Q/2009, there would be some budget lappies on the market (USD 1500~2000) equipped with quadcore cpus and high end vgas. =P -
the G50vt-x1 in BB is the only in silver/black of G series? is a special edition?
-
Yes, it is a special edition.
Cheaper, less specced, poorer warranty, but better looking. It's down to personal preference.
-
So...does this notebook actually use MXM or is it one of ASUS' proprietary slot?
-
I'm thinking of getting one right now.... Like in 30 mins...
So is this laptop still recommended? Knowing all the issues that comes with it? -
-
LOL!
I just got the laptop and I don't wanna open it just yet...
I wanna use it though, to see if I got a good one. -

Is this one really 15.4 inches?... all the style and spec points to the 15.6 ones in existance, if its 15.4 i might just get it to be my portable..........but I cant seem to find it anywhere and newegg's notebook policy is no return regardless...... -
-
Guys, what audio driver is the G50VT-X1 using? I tried the G50V audio driver and it will not install.
-
Anyone have gaming benchmarks for Crysis on this bad boy.
-
-
-
When I get mine I was planning on putting my Vista Ultimate 64 on it.
-
Hey guys its week 2-3 now with my g50vt, I have not encountered anymore problems.
I installed fallout 3 when it was launched, and I have been running the game on the highest settings with no lag.
I just connect my laptop to my external 36'' Samsung HD LCD ftw. -
I am not sure whether you refer to that one when you say "the G50V driver". -
On ASUS' download page, the G50V (The one with the 9700M GT) has all of its driver, while the G50VT doesn't have anything besides the BIOS and manual available for download. -
Wait, so you only have recovery disks? No driver disks? That would be something new, I think until now all ASUS models came with separate driver disks.
-
Let's see if another G50VT owner can chime in and tell us if they got a driver CD. -
It does come with a driver CD. I have it on my hand.
It says "Driver & Utility Ver 1.0"
BTW, does anybody know if I can reformat the laptop with Vista 32-bit and still have the cool ASUS Utilities? Or are the utilities in the Driver & Utility CD? Are they compatible with 32-bit? I can't really tell... -

I got one of this machines recently and it goes quite well for the time being, but I have problem with this small LCD that suppose to display CPU usage percentage etc.
When I checked the options from direct console message part, it appears for seconds, then fade and disappear at all. The message that appear initially also very dim. Does anyone also experience such problem? -

I was just in Best Buy today, and the G50 is a really nice looking computer. The lid, although flashy, actually looks really nice when you experience it first-hand.
-

-
Oh wait, are you talking about the G50VT-X1? Or is it for another laptop? -
Check the ad scan here, on the page with all the gamer stuff and Wrath of the Lich King in the middle. Is $1100 a good time to jump or could it go lower this upcoming holiday season?
