Don't know if people have any kind of solution, but I'm having major issues with starcraft.
If the laptop goes into standby, hibernate, or turning off screen (after screensaver kind of thing), starcraft becomes unplayable after resuming unless I restart the laptop completely. The menus fade in/out will be very slow and there will be a glitch type lag in game, as if it is a very old computer trying to run a high end 3d game with a million explosions happening. Furthermore, cpu usage will be at around 100% as opposed to normally 50%.
Things i tried:
Updating realtek drivers did not solve anything as was suggested somewhere on blizzard.
Updating graphics card drivers also did not help.
Changing the nvidia control panel to set everything to the bare minimum for starcraft did not help.
Reinstalling windows vista did not help.
This is a really strange problem, was wondering if anyone had any insight?

Hi.
I bought this laptop quite a while already, but didn't have time to check bundle softwares. Can anyone listed them + suggestion whether to keep them or not please. -
Have you checked out the Asus bloatware guide? It should help you decide which utilities you'd want to keep/delete. -
Hello everyone, I have this laptop (which I think is awesome by the way) and I have a question. I am a bit of a novice at this so I hope I can make myself clear with the problem I am having. I purchased this laptop a few months ago in anticipation of the The Sims 3 release this month. Well, I now have the game and have played it once or twice and I noticed that whenever I am looking at my "neighborhood" view and I scroll around the screen I am getting a "rolling" in the picture - kind of like the screen is not keeping up with the graphics as I move around the neighborhood. Would this be a fps problem or something else? I have all of the graphic settings at their highest points within the game because I figure that I can run the game fine like that on this machine. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on what might be the problem/solution?
TIA! -
I can't imagine that Sims would even get close to the limits of this laptop. Try using a program like Fraps to see how many fps you are getting to see if you are lagging (too few fps) or tearing (too many fps).
You may also want to ensure you have the latest GPU drivers. -

Sims 2 takes a bit of power even though its older, I have a an issue the first minute or so where the cards 3d clock stays in low 3d instead of jumping into high clocks.
Dont have 3 yet. It should be able to push the card but not to its limits. -
Ah, I'm sorry David. Forgot to check that topic first.
I just recovered my notebook using the recovery DVD that came with this notebook though, after messing around with registry and the system become somewhat unstable.
Not sure where I found this topic (forgot to bookmark it), but can anyone give me the link to the topic that teach you how to tune your screen resolution please? -
I guess the first thing I should do is make sure the graphics card driver is up to date and then proceed from there?
If I download the Fraps software then that will tell me the fps I am getting?
Thanks for your help and sorry for all of the questions! -
Since I can't seem to find a complete answer, sorry if there is, I thought I'd ask here.
Has the keyboard lag been completely fixed yet? Without removing the touchpad drivers? -
I would definitely start with the latest drivers, you can get the official nVidia ones or use Dox (optimized for gaming). Fraps has an option that displays your fps as an overlay in the corner of the screen (you have to press a key to turn it on). -
Guys, [./heard]the screen is pretty poor. (Washed out/grey instead of black color).
Can anyone agree/disagree with this statement?
Also, what are the stock 3dmark06 scores? Is 83xx-ish accurate?
Lasty, read that the GPU shows up as the GT instead of the GS in many programs. Is it now confirmed that ALL X1s are shipped with the GT card?
I'm debating of getting this or the Gateway p7805u. -
The screen isn't great but definately not terrible in my opinion for the price. Stock 3Dmark06 score for mine were in the 8500's (1366x768). And the X1's all have GS's in them (downclocked GTS's). Most can be flashed to GTS speeds though. I currently have mine running at 600-800-1500. With the GPU flash and a setFSB overclocked to 2.7 ghz I get around 10k 3dmark06 at 1366x768 (I don't have an external monitor to test standard resolution on).

WIth T9600 Clocked to 3.22 Ghz on DOX 182.05 @1280x1024 I get 10,000 in XP and 9700 in Vista (on 185.85 DOX). Stock and slightly modified scores are in my review i forget off hand.
The gateway is a good buy as well, make your decision soon though G50 wont be around for much longer and the prices have dropped. -
Forgot to mention I'm using DOX 185.68 drivers as well.

Can someone tell me whether ASUS's OC Utility (DirectConsole) is better than manual OC in BIOS, in term of performance?

Guys, I don't know anything about this laptop, but just came across some refurbs on ebay for what would be a fairly awesome price in my country.
So I will read through this thread over the next day or two, but is there anything important I need to know, or that may not be in this thread ? -Unreliablity? (my warranty won't be very good).
-Something about not being able to press many buttons simultaneously?
Anyway, apologies if these are answered already, I am working my way through the thread (slowly)
-
I have a refurb and am quite happy.
Although for not much more the G51 is probably better if you can find away to get one. -
I bought my referb G50VT-X1 two weeks ago. I am pleased as punch. The only thing I advise is pick up a spare battery.
-
I want some impressions.
I have seen videos and it seems to run great but I wanna see what yo uguys gotta say.
As for the G51, It was between that and the Refurb X1, but I have decided the X1 because of the heating issue in the G51 and really, as tempting as it is to get such a nice GPU, the CPU is a downer (despite it not causing a game like Crysis to perform any less, and can still be manually overclocked to 2.25GHz) I would rather take the safe route, pay $740 for a refurb X1 whcih has a good cooling system and I know can run the games I want, which will in no way exceed Crysis in system requirements. -
just got mine yesterday
-
Hey what's the status of using the G51 keyboard on a G50VT-X1.
I'm really interested in this. -

Shoot that's a bummer.
Only thing I really would like from the G51. -
)
If someone know where I can buy this laptop, may public the link pleas, and where is the best shop to buy it?? -
Well there seems to be some feedback on refurbished laptops on the previous page (not owned for longer than 1 month though).
Whether ASUS is a good brand... different people will have different opinions, and it also very much depends on the model. From my reading the forums, the G50 seems to be a reliable model. -
OK, just brought a G50VT-X1 and should be delivered this week hopefully
The SSD I brought will turn up in time also so I can install it and then I will be benchmarking and maybe a mini review
-
Thanks, I bought my referb G50VT-X1 ASUS., so I hope this will arrive the next week. -

Seen this laptop on jr.com for 729.99 refurb. Will this laptop still hold up for a couple or three years? Seems like an awesome rig and just what I am looking for.

Folks, I used to have Asus G1-B1 (T9300 2.5, 4 GB, GF 9500, Blue Ray).
Since they unable to fix it, they offered me G50VT-X1.
How do you think? Is it fair? -
Depends on what you want to "do" with it.
If you like playing games over everything else then you made out well. You can overclock the G50VT-X1 to get back up to the T9300's speed.
Did they include a blue ray drive in your specific G50VT-X1? If not thats a bummer, but you can install one yourself if you really wanted it. -
Cheers, -
Somebody know somenthings about the problem of the G50VT-x1 on its DVD units?, In my case, the laptop dont work if you use the DVD to see a movie, because at the 3 minutes the computers dont found my DVD units. Soebody have the same problem???

Hi guys,I guess I am now a member of this lounge...Yay!
Any must have mods out their other than the bios flash? -
Anyone who has dual boot with this laptop? I'm thinking Vista and XP. Any issues?
Thanks, -
I've dual booted Windows 7 and Vista. Worked flawlessly.
-
Thanks for the feedback. If I'd like to start from scratch, which OS (Vista, XP) should I install first? I remember the old days with XP and 2K that installing 2K after XP, it replaced a file (forgot the name) with an old version that you can't boot to XP again. Will I have a similar issue with Vista/XP? I remember reading somewhere about SATA setup in BIOS in order to install XP or something similar but I can't find it anymore.
Thanks for the info. -
Can't say which to install first but I now have a tri-boot machine. It came with Vista 64 installed. I added XP Pro using the guide in the forums. Then when the RC for Win 7 came out I added that too. Seems to go very smoothly.
Hope this helps. -
Just to be sure: below is the guide you referred to, right?

Thanks -
I have dualboot with Vista 64 and XP 32. No problem once all the drivers in XP are installed.
I started with Vista but I think it can be done any way. Once the second system is installed you have to add the first system to the boot. -

I'm trying to run the recovery disk, but it isn't running for some reason
I'll reboot and when it loads up again all I get is an open file folder with the files inside the disc but none of them do anything (they're just txt documents) or cannot be opened
I'm really frustrated because my computer's harddrive is corrupted and when I try and run the utility to fix it it says it can't run while it's in use, so I choose to run on start up but then it doesn't do that...
anyone have this problem, advice or directions?
would be greatly appreciated -
Thank you. I will give it try in the weekend.
