also, for some reason my driver disc doesn't have the wireless drivers on it, I had to get them from intel, it was a painless process overall, Ken walked me through it just to make sure, but not having wireless drivers? kinda ridiculous if you ask me.

No, $179.99 for a Western Digital 500 GB External HD

If I could find a C90 for that price I would have it with me now, playing games on it to give you guys FPS stats.

ahh, thanks for the updates alex. I'm dieing reading about all the possible problems with the laptop. If anyone is installing all their components themselves can you please post your procedures? So far it's been relatively simple, but I don't have any notebook assembly experience and want to check that my installation is correct. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get the rest of the parts, I really want to start it up now. Did you guys get a little laptop bag with your C90s? I received one, but am not sure if it's standard or came from my reseller?

OT as all hell: That's odd. I checked the Best Buy and Microcenter in my area and they were charging $229.99 for it. Oh, it's because you got the Premium and I got the Pro version. The Premiums are less expensive. I thought I got gipped there for a second.

Thats because it doesn't include wireless, you put your own wireless in so it can include the drivers for something like that.

I found that pretty easy and just x-fered them with my flash drive.

To alleviate any fears about Eddie's problems...I haven't been able to reproduce them. Granted he is using much different set up, it may be a problem with a number of component matchups, but not the C90 itself.

The wireless driver is in there, go to Drivers\Wireless\Intel

It's the wrong version, Asus put 3945 and 2915 instead of 4965.

If you look at the QVL list, it doesn't list the Wireless N card, but it does those two.

The wireless card is the only non-C90S-specific part that requires drivers, so it makes sense they don't 100% support it.

Plain Jane I suppose...It was the demo from fileplanet, so take that how you will. Also, it sucks in vista because the rendering does wierd things (it looks like there are strings attaching the guns and other objects to the ground.

I'm trying, but I need more benchmarks and these programs are like gigabytes big, so it takes a few hours to D/L them. I am putting in pics right now, once that it done I can do the benches, then add FRAPS shots, then write the conclusion and be done. I don't know where to put it though, the thing is like 273MB right now, and I am not nearly done...it is 10 pages long right now. I'm not really very close to finished time wise, or size wise, but the work is just a bit repetitive. Does anybody have a way they can host this?

I have been testing stuff abit more. The Vista x86 disk I have doesnt work so I cant install vista tonight, ill install x64 when I get home tommarow.

I looked further into the overclocking software, it works perfectly in xp. both the ram and the cpu go to the right speed, and the fans are working and alot of hot air comes out in overclocked mode. definitly not worth the fans noise and the extra heat for only 300mhz more. However 3dmark06 seems like its crashing in the same place each time if I run it in overclock mode so maybe its not the temps. Im downloading sandra now to see what the temps look like. Maybe you can compare yours to mine later too see if mine are higher than they should be.

When I enable gaming mode (10% overclock) and then run something I do see in cpu-z that it goes to 2.93ghz. However right after I close the program that makes the cpu go to full speed windows explorer goes away and it very slowly restarts displaying all item on screen very slowly (except wallpaper of course) and my mouse moves very jerky and i cant open anything. In other words windows becomes unresponsive after i run a program that pushes the cpu to 2.93ghz. I have the e6700 cpu (2.66ghz). I tried disabling and enabling speedstep in the bios. Both return the same results. Im running windows xp with all original drivers straight from the cd. Anyone got time to test theirs and let me know what happens please do!

EDIT: as an extra note, when the cpu goes to 2.93ghz my ddr-667 ram goes to 292 (584 effective) in cpu-z. Right after doing this i opened the ACE door and man everything was HOT. VERY HOT! I used the thermal grease already on the heatsinks.

I cant say that I noticed that effect, but I can easily say the 300mhz isnt worth it.

Id just run normal mode, besides a benchmark it wont change anything.

however since your on xp just like me and have the same cpu, can you do me a favor? a big one.

go download the newest speed fan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

very small download and tell me what your core 0 and core 1 temps are when your just idling around in windows. My temps seem way to high on the cpu, I should have installed it perfectly (if anything id be afraid the gpu was bad since it has a very odd and inefficant cooling design, but the cpu was very straight forward)

thanks ahead of time. I guess maybe i need to add more thermal compound since the heatsink was coated very thick before I replaced it with as5.

ACTUALLY i should have mentioned that too! When I first installed everything and went into the bios at first boot it started at 62 degrees and went to 66 degrees in a matter of about 10 seconds. Now that ive used it to install all software its around 75-76 degrees!!!!

I show 65c idle with speedfan, and was all the way up in higher 80's when running 3dmark 06.

I get a reboot if i try 3dmark06 in gaming mode, im trying to find out if its a glych/bug or a heat issue.

Im definitly skilled when it comes to building computers so I dont see how I messed up. I bought the cpu 2nd hand off ebay, but i have never heard of a defective cpu that overheats :p

so what does speedfan say your core1 & 0 are when your sitting in windows?? if you stuff is the same as mine things will make alot more sense.

also if you want too see if get a reboot in 3dmark06 during the cputest while in game mode. We could really have alot of good info then.

Speculation: Asus advertises the C90 as capable of reaching 4628 in 3dmark06. However, it says "capable". Maybe they were using a different gpu....just speculation of course seeing as no one can even touch 4000 yet...

Vicious, this morning the first thing i did as open the laptop up, remove the stock thermal grease and add artic silver 5 instead. Upon first boot and going into speedfan both core temps were 62 degrees. After about 2 minutes now they are 67 degrees. Keep in mind the laptop was cold from overnight until i first booted after AS5 and went into speedfan. I am lost as to why its so hot....
