I just got mine, took about 50 pictures (all of which you guys will see eventually). Very excited, letting it charge. As soon as it is up, cracking the video drivers open and 3DMarking will be a priority

Guess what... it is whisper quiet (a slightly loud whisper, but it is more pleasant than most laptops. You are all familiar with the laptop "metallic hum" well, the C90 literally sounds like a breeze, with that familiar hum, but at a much lower rate. Basically, it is not as quiet as a notebook without the fans, but is not the distracting type of noise one would be used to from a notebook.

Basically the soothing hum that will lull you to sleep?

Good, sounds sexual.

The touchpad itself sucks at the moment, but I don't think it will after being broken in. Like Eddie said, it is painted over, so your finger doesn't glide. However, this is a problem that will go away with use. On the plus size it is rather large (about 1.5x the size I have seen on most 15" laptops) and the buttons have an excellent tactile metallic click to them.

What is the optimum size for a Vista installation partition?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
is it really due to paint tho? people paint over there touchpads with no ill effects. It must be the quality of the touchpad itself...
I mean feel free to sand it to find out -

So... 80 and 80?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
yeah, because you can always save your files/meida to any of the partitions so going 50/50 means you have equal space for anything OS specific and dont have to worry about running short on space.
And for most games you can even have them installed into the same spot and share it between multiple partitions. -
i am almost 100% sure its because of the paint... My A8Js has the exact same crappy touchpad. I was lucky that a friend of mine recently bought a z63a touchpad module, and it came with an extra sticker thing that goes on the touchpad.... So i got it on top of the touchpad of my a8js and now it looks and feels like the touchpad on the z63a, which is very very good.

haha, update. The C90 is actually almost silent during windows install and during boot-up, the metallic hum I heard was from the cooling pad I put it on.

Picked up my C90 from excaliberpc.com yesterday. Allen was really nice and helpful. I've been waiting for this for a long time. I still don't have the wireless card/processor/hard drive. Anybody clarify the missing screw deal? How many screws total were supposed to come with the computer? So far i've installed the video card and memory, it seems really straight forward, I've heard the wireless card is more of a pain? Anyway, good luck with your computers, hopefully we can get the 3dmark scores up a little bit, still happy with the purchase though, the computer looks great in person )

A couple of things, the touchpad is burning up, it is hard to use the fingerprint user from the heat. Dunno if this is normal or not. Also there isn't a full-sized shift key, so be prepared to hit the up arrow a few times before getting accustomed.

I am about to check the WEI to see if windows thinks the 512 version is weaker too.
-
Thats weird you use the right shift key.... I dont use it at all. i always use the left shift key.
-
alex, you need to change your sig to current c-90 owner, ya lucky devil!

haha, yea, immediately!
Anyway, maybe the fans aren't on, that may be the heat issue...I can't hear them if they are. -

Hey Alex, how is the build quality?
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
well, the lid is sturdy without too much flex, the body is thinner plastic, not cheap feeling, but heat transfers well (update: after the chipset drivers installed, the fans kicked on, still very quiet, and the touchpad and hand rests got waaayyy cooler.) The screen is excellent, even under a brightish light the glare isn't that bad (due to the transflective screen), and the user interface is very nice. (the touchpad has the issues noted before, but the buttons are very nice and the keyboard has nice big buttons and is a pleasure to type on.)
-
did it come with drivers if not were they horribly hard to find? and did HDD controller need a special driver during windows install

But seriously, this is a computer to behold. It is smaller than it looks (so when you carry it around it feels portable, but when you open it up to use it, it feels spacious and large). If you get a chance to see or use one, do. It has its flaws and pluses (not all of which I will detail here, since I need some material for the review), but it is like that girlfriend you had, that even though she was kind of a ***** and possibly a little bit nuts, you still fell in liked her for some reason...some of you older guys may understand that one. But really, it works where it counts, and feels awesome to use.

Thanks Alex, much obliged

all drivers are included with an Asus supplied utility to install and reboot automatically all the way through.

your in depth analysis is highly anticipated! thanks for the info as well...

the screen is flexible though, bending from the corners occurs with moderate force. I don't see why that matters though, when are you ever going to bend the lid other than to be able to say that? There is virtually no screen wobble.

thank you for that answer alexonfyre

ALEX ALEX! Most important question. I remember from computex that the fan had "turbo engine" written on it. Does it have that written on it?

please try to include an actual game playing review (not the 3dmark disapointing thing...) better if you include Directx9 and directx10 games =)
I know its a lot to ask but i wont get mine in at least 3 weeks =( -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
yes, yes it does
Very important though, does anyone have an FTP from which I can download 3D Mark? It is taking 3 hours off of an HTTP right now... -
how fast is it going? Mine took 5 inutes at six megabits
-
TheoryDependence Notebook Consultant
If all else fails, somebody can upload 3D Mark onto a site like fileden or megaupload or rapidshare, that'll make it easily accessible by everyone.
-
AlexOnFyre is
EDIT: -
Im waiting for the mailman to see it they brought it early *Hopefully waits for new lappy*

Neither Ken or I have had that problem. It seems Eddie has a bad stick of RAM. I think I posted it in the other thread. I went ahead and tested. All settings of Power4Gear for about 2 minutes each, pluged in and unplugged.
-
Alexonfyre do you have any issues like gearedtoplay???
-
opppss asked too late lol
-
thank you soooooooooo much for those reassuring words
-
As soon as I get mine (hopefully Tuesday) I'll be skipping everything and installing a whole lot of games and testing the FPS on them. So if everyone is still hung up on 3dmark, for those of you who care I'll be doing it
-
I care... thanks evannn67
