The truth is I found that option in my V6J drivers, which are pretty old. I don't know if it's there in newer drivers...

Setting external as primary is easy.
I'm using 156.83 from LaptopVideo2Go, but I've tried it with later drivers too. (these are just stable for me)

In the XP Display Properties - Settings tab
    - Enable the external screen (monitor 2) and hit apply
    - Now you can set monitor 2 as primary and apply it.
    - Disable the notebook display and apply to shift the start bar and all icons to the external screen. Re-enable the notebook display.

    Update:

Put my system into Hibernate about two weeks ago and it never turned back on...Windows XP SP3 Professional Ed.

Brought it into ASUS Canada yesterday and they replaced the motherboard. Costed 113.34USD for the replacement (not bad!). I'm waiting for a ride to pick it up later today.

Let's see if they followed my note...I told them to NOT TO FORMAT the HDD because I have very sensitive information that wasn't backed up (but I couldn't get to the HDD myself since it was in a HDD cage that required the notebook to be opened fully before accessing).

If the computer was DOA and they just replaced the motherboard there is a good chance they did not wipe the HDD. But you can never rely on that. Is the HDD that difficult to access in the A8? In many ASUS notebooks it's simply behind an easy-access panel on the bottom.

Same on the A8Jm. The hard drive is behind a panel, and is screwed into an easy to remove tray.

I agree, your data is probably safe, but please let us know.

Generally unless the system comes with the OS, or the OS is offered as an upgrade through the company, they won't support it with drivers. With that said, most drivers you will have to manually download from the devices maker. IE: Nvidia/AMD for graphics drivers, RealTek for audio and stuff like that..

    yep, thanks for the tip.

i got what I can off asus's vista 32 bit drivers. Found a couple of more recent drivers on manufacturer websites.

I'm happy to say that everything including all my USB devices (portable HDD, keyboard+mouse and bluetooth adapter are working very well!

Windows 7 32-bit looks much nicer than aged XP and definitely feels as fast.

update: sound wasn't working with the default windows 7 drivers, so I downloaded the ADI SoundMAX Vista/Win7 driver and all is well!

Power4Gear Xtreme is also working and the media button (which just brings up Windows Media Center)

Would anyone be interested in upgrading their A8JM to Nvidia Geforce 9650M GT (1GB Ram)?

If so, I have done this upgrade with my A8JS (had a Go7700 originally), and can help the A8JM owners out too, if anyone fancies trying the upgrade! :)

Send me a PM or post here if you need any advice on how to do this :) And I can help with instructions and a custom BIOS etc!

Hey Jonmoner.....I know I replied to a msg in another thread in this forum about upgrading my Asus A8Jm from a Go 7600 to a 9650M GT, although not sure if you're still around this forum. But you mentioned you can make a bios for my laptop? Please respond if you can. Thanks!
