I just need a pic and I can tell so if someone has the 240M can take a pic that would be good.
I need to know because I am getting a 5870 from Hemi and need to know if the 240 heatsink will fit the 5870.

Looks like theyre are compatible with eahother brotha ( 240m,260m,280m ) so no worries... read the first post on the link i posted... and read a page back, a page front... there's a whole discussion
Hope i helped you out a little
EDIT: Well i dont know about the 5870m fitting.. thought u asked about the 260m vs the 240m

As discussed I see that Item Intel Core i7 620M is backordered Although we do not anticipate a delay in your order, we cannot guarantee the delivery date. -
Yes, I asked about the 240 and 260 hs being compatible.
The 5870 is very similar to the 280, which is the same as the 260, so that should give me an idea of it working or not.
Hope I didn't confuse you yet -
lol sweet... thats good to know when the 5870's come out from dell.. so id be able to upgrade it no problem
+ rep to you too buddy
.. not that yu need it.. with 37rep and 7,257 posts

can't wait for the 5870 also, the benchmarks makes me drool. man sleey0 how many alienwares you have?
-
I wish Dell could have gotten my R2 to me in a normal time frame but I guess it wan't meant to be.... -
-
So will the 260M heatsink fit the 5870?
-
-
-
-
hahaha nice sig sleey0.. and what brings you to the m15x forums all of a sudden? sold your m17x? nice finally seeing some variety around here with all the new ppl getting M15x...
-
Can anyone give me an average-ish timeframe for the "in production" stage of the M15x? I ordered mine on the 5th, and I got NBD shipping, I'm just wondering when to expect it. I'm too anxious, I want my new lappy
-
I keep reading about the bottom panel being very think plastic. Any chance of it breaking if handled daily? Also I've read that it is almost impossible to do anything (videos/light gaming) on this machine running battery, any truth to this? Can it even handle light gaming from say Madden 08 on battery? Looking to get either the M17x or M15x but the constant delays of the M17x is pushing me towards this one lol.

Due to the power requirements (and this is true for all laptops), most GPU's are automatically downclock when on battery power, not because they are worried about battery life, but because the battery can't meet the power requirements of the GPU. For example, on my old Macbook Pro, I had disabled powermizer, which is what tells the GPU to downclock while on battery, so whenever I unplugged the thing, my screen would go all scrambly and would have static everywhere until I reset the GPU in the device manager, which was hard to do on a scrambled screen.
So to make a long story short, when you unplug the lappy, the GPU has greatly reduced power, and therefor worse performance in games. This is true for all laptops with a dedicated GPU. -
Ah I see. So what can the M15x do on battery? Lol sometimes I sit in the car and watch movies waiting for my next class... I'll be getting an extra batter too if I can at least watch 1080p movies...thanks
-
well jwest i called back the guy who talked to last week didn't do anything for getting me NBD and when i called today about when i was to receive my M15x. The CS rep told me the 620m was back ordered im like doesn't say anything about this on the order page for it and i ordered 3/30 if i ordered yesterday i would still get the same delivery date
-
Well, I do appreciate the help and will def throw you some rep later
[/QUOTE]
I don't care about reps. We're all here to help each other out, aren't we?
I just looked and didn't see any screws, but I'm going to switch it off now and try to open it without breaking it (not that I'm afraid of my own strength, LOL).
Wish me luck! -
harry its just 2 smalls screws holding the bottom piece in place. its near where the battery is, once you take out the screws push the plastic piece forward and the piece should slide out. i would attach a service manual but you have dial up so it would take for ever, lol.

Hey.. harrythefish did you receive the manual with the your m15x. It should have instructions for opening the lid... If you don't have that then I'll take a screenshot and post it here..
At last VARIETY>>>>>
Hey inap... Is the Intel X-25 M SSD a huge difference in performance for daily usage.. Thinking of buying one but £350 price tag is breaking my wallet..
Also, Is intel going to have a g3 ssd out soon... its still time..
Shall I buy it now... Any comments ,... -
One mean looking manual by the way! -
do you need the ssd now or later? also wait for the new model to come out and the one your looking at should drop it price a little if your trying to save some dough
-
should have something new coming out by fall. but current one is real sweet. really depends on what you do, stuff like photoshop and illustrator will greatly benefit from a ssd. and boot up time is amazing. i'm trying to work on getting a deal on a few of these right now. trying to get enough cash together, i'll let you know how it goes.
-
When you have the money for it SSD's are arguably the single best upgrade you can do to improve system performance.
Once you go solid state there is no going back to archaic, magnetic storage -
That was actually a piece of cake! 2 screws, slide forwards and off comes the whole panel!
I took pics and hopefully they show what is needed well enough (cheap phone pics), but my internet is very slow so please bare with me (and I don't know how to post pics!). -
also what is a good price to sell a intel 160 g2? got a really good deal on 2 of these and will be picking them up tomorrow. hey sleey0 does the 5870 hemi is selling work for the M15x. -
It should work, but we won't know until someone tries it. I will try it when I get my system, of course.
Also, you can get $400 for the G2.
Quick sale for $375. -
^^^ sweet thank for the info. man i really want the 5870 but wished it was comfirmed. don't even need these ssd just getting them and passing the saving on to M15x owners only, hahaha.
-
Yeah, I have that 256GB Sammy SSD that I am selling for a dirt cheap price (relative to what they go for at retail lol).
-
man looks like your next in line for the 5870, so i won't try to buy it then. and yeah that samsung is an awesome deal, does it support trim?
-
I don't know. lol
That is the one question I get asked and, unfortunately, I have no idea what fw is on it.
You see, I do not have any system to put it in to check. lol
I am almost 100% positive that the fw can be flashed with no issues because the drive is a sample that came direct from Samsung. So, unlike the Dell ones that are problematic to flash, this one should have no issues. -
wow i'm interested now, but i will have all my money suck in these 2 new intels. do you accept food stamps, lol if it doesn't sell by the time i get the cash i will contact you.
-
I am now uploading the pictures (well, my wife is) so I can post the links here. I did not remove the heatsink or anything, because honestly, I have no idea what that is! (Sorry!). What unsettles me a little is that I now experience a spft vibration under the palmrest (both sides), something I have never had before. I did not touch anything inside. I just slid open the panel, took the pics and slid it back on.
Once they're uploaded (sorry, dial-up connection) I will post the links. -
Nah, food stamps are a no-go. lol
But I have had lots of folks asking about just no one wanting to buy it yet.
Although we already found out it is the same heatsink by going through old threads
Sorry. lol -
i'm sure the vibration are nothing, since that panel isn't really connected to anything. but anyways picture would be nice.
-
-
If it is causing your internet to freak out then don't worry about uploading the pics.
-
No, my internet just freaks out by itself. We live on the beach but between mountains, so there's no reception of anything. No cable TV, no land-line phones, etc. I connect over my mobile phone which also doesn't have the best reception here.
I will just keep trying and once I've got them I will post the links. (And if nothing works I'll get up in the middle of the night when I have the best internet speed).
Update: The first three pictures are on the net. If you open them you can click on them again to make them even larger (I'm just saying that because the site is in German):

Lol. Hey sleey0 are you getting the 240m? I'm probably gonna go low specs on the M15x and upgrade to 1080p, 9cell, and 1 year advanced.
-
wow harry if its that much trouble then it cool man, no need to get up in the middle of the night, lol. + rep for willingness to help out.
man people here are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 -
I went with the 240 because I am getting a 5870 to put in instead
-
BTW - Are the pics helpful at all? -
Yes, they confirmed to me that the hs is the same.
Again, thanks -
Great that you can install the card you want in there. I hope it runs perfectly once you get it in!
I have now update the post with a third picture, but as I'm posting this I might as well put it in this post too:
And as no more pics are needed, I will leave it at this.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
Wow looks like hemi's 5870 works in the M15x. Hope he gets more.
-
I thought the A05 bios fixed the audio issues.. It seems that after a reboot everything went back to being glitchy..
EDIT: Tried another soundcard and it turns out it's the Game - DAO-Awakenings.. My bad.. -
Hmm so now I need to worry about potentially upgrading my cpu, hard drive and GPU this summer! damnit!
-
This morning my M15x started up normally but the fan was on full speed and did not let down until I restarted. However when pressing the power button for second start up to test the computer never turned on. I unplugged the AC power and tried again and it booted up on the 3rd go. Normally the fan does go at full speed upon start up but it only lasts for several seconds.
