Holy crap, those are some nice temps! Are you sure that's right? That sounds impossibly low. Mine hovers around 55-60C idle. If that's true, then congrats! You might want to use a few temp monitoring programs, just to be sure ;)

lol i know man i couldnt believe it...i used gpu-z msi afterburner and evga precision....plus furmark monitors temps. i overclocked to the stock clocks the card is supposed to come with 675/1350/1250 for some strange reason dell underclockes the gtx 460 m in the M15X to 570/1140/1250,i wonder why? i just tested it on black ops for 45 min and it stayd at 59-60c,guess i can push it way further

Remarkable temps in Furmark. Are you using HWiNFO32 to track temps? What are your card clock settings during that Furmark test?

Guys, i have GTX460m from the factory.
    Idle 38c
    MAXIMUM OC'ed never over 68c

So your temps is normal for a GTX460m oscarcoll360

Yeah those temps are normal the GTX 460m is a very very cool running card. Seems that most of the 4XXm series cards are as the 425m in my wife's rig is extremely cool too. My R3 tops out at high 60's running some pretty high OC's. As to your question on overclockability oscarcoll360 it's all going to depend 100% on your card, don't make the mistake of thinking that because one person's card will run an insane overclock that yours will too. Temps play a partial factor but are not the deciding factor in how high you can overclock. Slowly increase your clocks by like 5-15mhz increments and stress test between each bump, once you see instability you know the roof of your card for benchmarking. Don't ever run the max overclock for daily use though.

Once my temperature reached upto 90C while gaming NFS Hot pursuit after Over clocking.. 745/1490/1390.. Average would be from 65 to 75C..

Yep the 460m at a very cool running gpu, its why dell dropped the 5850m so they could get a more reliable gpu.

What the heck are you talking about spoonjaffa? Every part of that statement is incorrect. 1)The 5850 is still available to this day in the M15x 2)I'd like you to show me even one bit of solid proof that the 5850 is less reliable than the 460m. My 5850m ran ridiculously high overclocks on a daily basis and is still ticking to this day for somebody else, if anything I'd say the 460m is less reliable than the 5850, you try to run a 1 GHz core speed on your 460m and see what it does ;)

^^I agree. The 460m is not necessarily a more reliable card, infact compared to the ATi's they are a bit sketchy at times. Does run cool though, I don't have cool temps because they are offsetted by really high overclocks.

Well just going by what the dell sales reps told me and they have the figures i guess to back it up, i'm just passing what i was told. In the UK/Europe dell shop the 5850m is dropped so go figure.
But yea i'd prefer a 5850m so don't get me wrong they are slightly faster but hotter from what i've been seeing in these forums.
What the heck i'm sure you're 100% correct though.

Yeah don't belive what Dell reps say 100% of the time, they're 50/50 on being right lol. It's still available in the US at least, my 5850 ran very cool unless it was up at ridiculous benchmarking clocks and then I don't know what the temps were as it was on A/C the whole time.

Did a repaste of using AS5 but I think I may have cocked it up though because I have about 85C under load using my gaming clocks in sig. Gonna give MX-4 a go and see if that is any better. Does everyone use the pea method?

Hi, So I'm curious, are you guys all using the advanced versions of 3d mark 06/Vantage or the free basic editions?

I ask because I can only view my results online, a baisc version feature, yet in your screenies you all have the results showing in the applications interface?

Perhaps I'm being a bit daft!?

Anyways my first Vantage run was: Result

    and

    06 run: Result

All at stock settings. What do think about my system scores? Specs are i5 540m and GTX 460m

Those are probably about normal for a 460M, but we can't really tell because there is no information about the clock settings used. That's one of the reasons people use the Advanced Editions; they're faster and easier to use for repeated runs, and they allow groupings with GPU-Z and CPU-Z to report and document clock parameters. If at Dell stock clocks (others vary), your results are fine I think, but there is very little documented benchmark data for the 460M posted in this forum to use for comparison..

Inap, it appears that the 460M's used in the R3 use significantly higher default settings, i.e., core @675Mhz (R3) v. 570Mhz? (M15x), etc. That would account for the higher GPU scores in the benchmarks. You're right about PhysX, which would overstate the Vantage score.

oh thanks for clearing that up lacey. not too many M15x benches with the 460m so i cross checked it with the r3.

wow over 100mhz underclocked, guess they had to make the r3 look better over the M15x with similar specs.

Thanks for the repies. I have attached my GPU-Z output as an attachment. Just my stock clocks for the moment.

Off the bat I noticed that the card was underclocked but thought id see how stock settings bench before I began OC'ing. Now that you both mention it perhaps it was a ploy by dell to make the r3 seem more powerful GPU-wise from the M15x where the 460m is concerned at least?!! For those that don't pick up on that kind of thing anyway.

Suppose I'd better go purchase me an advanced edition of 3d mark - Any place better to buy em from other than the official website?

Ah one more thing, if you know that is.. When you see my GPU Clocks in the attachment, is it right that i should actually be doubling the memory clock due to the 460m running in dual band or is dell having a laugh?

    Thanks to you both!

EDIT: @Inap - You also mentioned me having PhysX on? Does this effect benching results making them higher of lower than they actually should be, like a bug or something?

No the memory is correct. You do have to double it. Some programs such as EVGA and Afterburner report them doubled @1250 but not GPU-z.
Anyways don't just overclock to get default clocks. Get MOAR!

phsyX boost your cpu's scores. it uses the gpu to help with the cpu calculations. plus ati doesn't have it, so turning it off will help even out the scores and make it more easily comparable.

There you go, Seph-VII. Now that's a proper benchmark posting that can serve as a base for the 460M's. What'd needed is a set of benchmarks showing 460M performance at (a) Dell stock clocks - 570/1250/1140, (b) R3/Clevo/NV stock clocks - 675/1250/1350, and (c) wide open overclocks with different clocks and processors, like your 3dMark06 post, Spoonjaffa's 06 post ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...15x-benchmark-thread-part-2-m15x-755-1510.jpg) and Widezu69's Vantage posting ( http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5707/67490674.jpg). Then we can get a much better sense of how these cards perform in their various guises and how far they can be pushed. Great temps by the way, Seph-VII.

Thanks, this card runs very very cool! I will post dell stock clocks 06/Vantage/11 runs for you guys references over the weekend. We need someone who has a clevo 460 to do the same.

I've just done another 06 run nearly hit 13k so will maybe go for 800 on the core and see its stable. I'll post an update here once completed.

Just noticed something, and not to try an s**t on another members scores but it appears spoonjaffa's 06 run has been listed incorrectly as 17638 when the actual result output says differently (this is the same score listed for Inaps 5850 #1 06 run) unless i'm missing something??? Also the GPU-Z console shows PhysX enabled, I was told this should be turned off due to the way it affects the CPU scores? Or is this somehow only affecting Vantage runs?

Sorry if I'm misguided in my findings, just want to get the rules straight so I know where I stand when benching.

You can have physx on in the control panel but you can disable PPU in the vantage settings. It is the same effect. I would do the latter, it means no fiddling with nvidia settings.

Yep, that score got entered incorrectly -- through no fault of Spoonjaffa's. Which is one of the reasons that benchmark documentation is required. Those kinds of errors can be easily corrected when discovered.

    Dell 460m voltage: GPU Core - 0.830 V (using adia64)

    GPU-Z reports the VDDC @ 0.8250

Not sure which value I should be concerned with?

Thanks Inap, well as the voltage looks ok maybe I'll just tinker a little bit more and see how far I can really push my card.

I have to say the temps on this card are extremely impressive, always in the mid 60's under full load. This included several runs of a Crysis bench - I'll post that when I get a chance.

Wow, those voltages look good. I wonder if there is a way to up the voltage. Not sure what would be a save limit, but I know the ATI 5870M cards run at 1.05v, and I have benched them at 1.15v. That explains the nice temps you see. How are you liking the 460M?

Just had a quick look but I couldn't find any settings for upping the Vcore voltage in the BIOS so I'm not entirely sure tbh, anyone know if this is an option?

But yeah, the temps are solid under load and while the card comes heavily underclocked by dell, it is great for playing games with a bit of eye candy and even better after an OC.

I think my voltages are 0.850 on idle and 0.950 on load so a bit higher than yours.

@sephVII: Dude, which drivers u currently using?? I'm currently using 266.** series modded drivers and I think I can still push my card further than my gaming OC(see sig). I upgraded nVidia 460M from Dell and I'm extremely happy with these card!!! The temp never crossed 75 deg when playing Metro 2033 for five hours straight at medium/high(DX11) settings in 1080p. I'm getting a fps of 35-55 fps and I'm extremely happy with my card.

I once OC'd my card to 840/1400/1670 for benching but the temps reached 85 deg when running MSI kombustor at 2XAA in 1080p. But I still think there was stability in the system and no artifacts were seen. But since my card is just 2 weeks old, I really don't wanna fry it. :D I've already toasted my 260M so I need to be careful. I usually use nVidia in my M15x because I do a lot of Photoshop/video editing as well other than playing FPS games.

By the way, this morning I was running my 940 XM t 27/27/24/24 at 95/74 using TS and while benching, it went unto 80 deg... Lol... But I did reach 10K 3Dmark points. I'm currently working on finding a max possible speed for my CPU and my GPU...only if I'd a good thermal paste. Im using factory paste and it is really holding me back. And it's bloody hard to find a good paste here in India.

But I'll keep you guys posted with my results and Dane watch out, a killer Benchmark coming very soon.

    SALUT!!! ;)

On another note, I have a new C300 and I did the JJB tweak and it seems to me that the 4k is rather slow or its that common?
